Winter is almost here, although it doesn’t mean much living in Southern California since we have very mild winters. My job involves tons of driving all over the county and can drive more than miles in one day. I had noticed my tires starting to look a little worn down and didn’t want to risk any accidents of issues. 

I really didn’t have a clue of where to start with getting new tires, starting with what size I needed. Online research led me to various site and I found many helpful articles on cars.com.  Everything you need and want to know about tires can be found. Such as how often should you rotate your tires and how to properly check and fill tires with air. Since we plan on taking some road trips soon, I wanted a good set of tires for all weather conditions.  Lots of little things we don’t always think about when it comes to getting a new set of tires.  Doing your research is strongly recommended so you get the proper tires and get stuck with wrong ones.  Like did you know that tires have a shelf life as well?  Yup, many factors to know when getting tires for your car, you shouldn’t always trust everything the “experts” tell you and do some researching for your self.  

A couple things you should know before getting new tires, which you will probably be asked when getting serviced.  Size of the tires, you will need to the size of the tire and rims you have. You can easily find this info on the tire itself.  All tires have a number printed on them which identifies the size and rim, such as 195/65R15.  Also when was the last time you had your tires rotated and/or changed. You may also want to know what the correct tire pressure is for the kind of tires you have, in order to properly maintain them.  Nowadays there is no reason or excuse women shouldn’t be more knowledgeable about cars and maintenance, with the Internet we have a wealth of knowledge at our fingertips.

Journey To Weight Loss Surgery: Post-Op

Hey curvies!!!

If you follow my fitness page on Instagram you may have noticed my name change and a date. My second Instagram account is now Curvybee_RNY_ (here). Since January of this year I have been on this Weight Loss Surgery (wls) journey with the support from Nurse Practitioner, surgeon, my family, boyfriend, and friends I am proud to say I had my surgery May 12, 2017. 


Let me just say that since surgery my main issue was simply nausea. It’s said to be normal and I actually believe that, because certain foods my body no longer likes. One thing I can no longer handle is beef. Beef doesn’t do my body well and I am willing to give it up forever. Also, early on I was drinking liquids too soon after eating and that caused me to be nauseous after eating. For some reason I thought I had to wait 15 minutes, but later found out I had to wait 30 minutes those extra minutes make a real difference. Those extra 15 minutes make a world of difference.


Another thing I was experiencing dizziness and feelings of weakness. At first I thought I was overreacting or that it was all in my head, but after speaking with my nutritionist for my 6 week post-op I spoke to my PCP and learned I was suffering from low blood pressure. She took me off of my blood pressure pills for 3 weeks and after my follow-up I no longer need them. Yayyyyy!!!! I have since been cleared to workout and I have been doing really well. I am currently down 73 lbs and still cannot believe that. If you or anyone know need someone to talk to or ask question feel free to reach out. Protecting our skin from the harmful effects of the sun is essential for maintaining healthy, youthful skin. Unfortunately, there are some misconceptions that leave many people without enough sun protection. It is our job as skin care providers to put a stop to these myths so clients have proper protection and get optimal results.

Proper use of sun block

Sunscreen will prevent me from getting Vitamin D

Vitamin D is an essential vitamin needed by our body to carry out everyday functions including immune support bone health, muscle function, calcium absorption, and more. Our skin synthesizes vitamin D through UVB exposure; and SPF 30 sunscreen blocks about 97% of the sun’s UVB rays. This can be a concern for many people, especially those that are low in vitamin D. Research shows that normal use of sunscreen does not result in vitamin D deficiency. Not only do most people not apply enough sunscreen to stop the body from producing vitamin D, but we only need about 10-30 minutes of sun exposure to create enough of it. If someone is truly concerned with their vitamin D levels, they should have their doctor do a simple blood test and discuss the use of a vitamin D supplement. You can also consider incorporating more vitamin D-rich foods (like salmon, cheese and fortified milk) into their diet.

Sunscreen is bad for you

Several chemical sunscreens contain oxybenzone or octinoxate, ingredients that some studies suggest are endocrine disruptors. However, there are no studies that prove that these ingredients lead to any harmful effects. In fact, the American Cancer Society released a statement saying it “encourages the use of FDA-approved sunscreens,” which includes those with oxbenzone and octinoxate. According to the U.S. Surgeon General and proven by many clinical studies, a base tan only provides an SPF of 3 or less. This is essentially meaningless in terms of sun protection. The best thing the client can do is apply SPF 30 or higher every two hours.

Makeup with SPF is enough

Many people believe that using makeup products that contain SPF is sufficient to protect their skin from the sun. While makeup with SPF offers some level of protection, it is often not enough to provide adequate coverage. Am I Still Blogging? Yes, I Still Am.

I am doing this blog post simply because I get soooo many questions about whether I am still blogging or not!

In my heart, I still am, but I get where the questions are coming from as it’s been like 10 months since my last blog post. I don’t have any intentions to give this up at present, it’s just that I really went through a lot in the last 10 months, health-wise and logistics-wise. The health part, I feel like it’s a conversation for another time, but for the logistics, oh boy. My iMac was debilitatingly slow and couldn’t do anything productive anymore, it could take 30 seconds to execute a single command or mouse click. It would take a right click even up to a minute before the menu would appear. On the worst days, it could hang for 20-30 minute periods and I couldn’t do anything. Even starting it up took 20-30 minutes! Simple reels that might have taken 30-40 minutes to edit would have taken days on the iMac. Since I couldn’t get anything done anymore, I had to have it checked in for diagnostics and repair, and when it came back after many weeks, it really still was slow in many ways so the entire ordeal of having a backlog pile up went on for at least half a year. It took me quite some time to acquire another computer, transfer and back up all relevant files, and set up shop. This is why I have yet to recover from the worst backlog in my own history as a content creator.

By the time I got to adjust to all the file transfers, I found myself just as overwhelmed as any other content creator. With Instagram introducing reels in late 2021 and then starting to punish any non-reel content in 2022, it became so hard to catch up with blogging as I now had to conceptualize which content would be done in a reel and which would not. And sadly, more of that needed to be in a reel, adding so much more workload strain. Before the algorithm started to punish non-reel posts, I was able to do things seamlessly somehow as I would shoot photos that I could use for both Instagram and the blog, as well as for Facebook and even Twitter. Fast forward to this month, the average content creator now has to churn out video content for Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and YouTube non-Shorts––but every single platform wants a different approach and a different kind of content.

It would take a TED talk to explain all the intricacies, but I think it’s easy to see that for creators who were able to seamlessly use photos for blog posts and Instagram + Facebook posts before, it’s now much more complex and I’m honest that I’m not able to catch up. I wish I had an editing and shooting team like other creators so that I could free up so much of my time that goes into editing, shooting, and setting up and focus that time instead on conceptualizing and ‘performing/modeling’ for shoots. Everyone wants to be an influencer these days thinking about all the glitz and glamour, but in reality, if you’re unable or unwilling to shell out the money for professional equipment or professional teams, it will really be very hard to catch up with all the content requirements in both quality and quantity these days.

Even myself, I actually can’t even tell if people even read blogs anymore. As far as this blog’s stats are concerned, it’s been generally stable, but even I wonder who are the people who are still coming to visit my blog. I’m thankful for those who still come over to read or check out swatches because all the industry clamor has been short-form video content these days.

But when I do analyze things, I still want to continue blogging because being in this for so long, what I have come to realize is that there is no single social media site that can be dominant forever. I don’t know when will the algorithm of a certain app favor my posts or when an app might start punishing me, and every year, there is a new and more dominant site that everyone wants to swarm into. I want to continue providing reviews and swatches that can be easily searched for any time without having to suffer from decay algorithms that social media sites do (i.e. the older your post, the more hidden it will get). 

So I guess the best explanation I can say is that I don’t have the intention to stop blogging, I just am overwhelmed with all the new industry content requirements like the rest of the creators in this industry. As someone who does everything myself, I still really am figuring out how I can continue conceptualizing, filming, editing, and managing all the replies and follow-ups without sacrificing my health and well-being.

Please give me time to figure this out. I think I’ll get to a solution somehow.
