How to Update Your Home for Spring

by Lina Clémence June 17, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

As the days grow longer and our spring bulbs begin to bloom, it’s the perfect time to refresh your home for spring. Updating your home for spring doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive; a few simple updates can bring in light, colour, and a fresh feeling that reflects the beauty of the season. Here are some easy ways to give your space a spring makeover!

Declutter and Deep Clean

Spring is synonymous with renewal, making it the ideal time to declutter and deep clean your home. I’d recommend decluttering bit by bit; tackling one area at a time, such as tackling your pantry cupboard on a Saturday morning, taking a break then tackling your beauty products in the afternoon. You could also pack away any winter decor, take unwanted items to a local charity shop, and give your home a thorough cleaning. Open all of your windows and doors to let in fresh air and natural light while you work!

Bring the Outdoors in

Embrace nature by incorporating fresh flowers and greenery within your home. Whether it’s a bouquet of tulips on the dining table, some freshly potted spring bulbs dotted around your living room or a potted shrub on your hallway table, bringing nature into your home instantly breathes life into a space. If you have any house plants, now could be a good time to give them a refresh too – move them into a larger pot if needed, refresh their compost so they have plenty of nutrients, and trim any dead or infected leaves.

Update Your Decor

Introduce bright and cheerful colours into your home by swapping out your homeware such as cushion covers, vases, artwork and crockery. Small decor swaps can make a big impact! Try to incorporate decorative accents in light and bright spring shades such as butter yellow, green, or pale pink.

Don’t underestimate the impact of swapping out your cushion covers; trading heavy materials in dark colours to light fabrics such as linen in a paler colour can be all your living room needs to feel fresher. This switch can be very inexpensive, plus storing a spare set of cushion covers should be easy, even if you’re tight on storage space.

Switch out Your Home Scents

If you’ve still got winter candles dotted around your home, filling the air with scents such as orange, cinnamon and clove,  try updating your candle and diffuser scents to something fresher, perhaps involving citrus scents and delicate florals. If you have an essential oil diffuser, like my fantastic diffuser from Aromatherapy Associates, switch out the essential oils you’re using, choosing more spring-like scents.

skintific 5x ceramide

Setelah Penggunaan Pada Kulit Berminyak

Well, i should say i love this moisturizer!

Kalau lembabnya ya ngga usah ditanya lagi sih, lembab banget dan bertahan cukup lama (biasanya aku pakai malam aja, tapi siangpun kulit tetap terasa bouncy). Kulit berminyaknya masih normal aja sih kaya biasa, tapi ngga memicu minyak berlebih.

Loving it so far!

Setelah Penggunaan Pada Kulit Kering

As a test, besokkannya ngga aku pakai dulu selama 2 hari.

It works super nicely on both my oily skin and my husband’s dry skin!

REVIEW KESELURUHAN

Pro:

+ mudah diratakan keseluruh wajah.

+ ngga bikin lengket atau greasy.

+ mudah menyerap.

+ melembabkan banget!

+ cooling sensationnya enak banget terutama kalau kulitku lagi gatel dan sensitif.

+ kulit berasa lebih halus.

+ calming.

+ ada spatulanya.

+ teksturnya gel, cocok buat kulitku.

+ ampuh buat melembabkan dry spot

+ tetap terjaga kelembapan kulit walaupun makainya ngga rutin

+ suamiku ngga complain, berarti teksturnya enak dikulit dia

Cons:

Apa cushionnya?? Anyway, sekian dulu reviewku kali ini, hope you guys find this article useful. See you guys on my next post!

Love,

Auzola

A Few Days in London

by Lina Clémence June 16, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

We popped to London last October to see one of my favourite humans, Fran Lebowitz. She was doing a speaking tour and I managed to get tickets for the Barbican, amazing venue and what a hilarious night. If you haven’t heard of Fran Lebowitz, you have to check her out, if you have a dry sense of humour you will love her.

Whilst we were up seeing Fran Lebowitz, we thought it was the perfect opportunity to have a city break and stayed 4 nights at the Hoxton Shepherds Bush, which you can read all about here, if you’re interested. We used it as a base to explore London, we haven’t been in the capital for almost 10 years, which is wild considering how often we used to visit. It had been so long that everything felt new and exciting, so much had changed whilst so much was also the same (if you know what I mean). We didn’t have the best weather, but we managed to dodge the rain and for me unpredictable weather means you can visit more cafés, pubs and shops. Am I right?

As we were based in Shepherds Bush we spent most mornings in the Notting Hill area, always love it around here, the properties are stunning and there are so many streets off the beaten track that are quieter and fun to explore. I always like to veer off the main drag and see what hidden gems I can find, and there are fewer crowds so you get some time to meander and take it all in. The pastel coloured houses in this area are just so cute, and I challenge anyone not to daydream about what it would be like to afford to live that kind of life, it would be wonderful.

We did stop by Spitalfields, which is always hectic but well worth a visit. There are so many wonderful food stalls and spots to get coffee. We had pad tai and a cheeky coffee from the pretty pink Grind van. We were there during half-term, so would like to go again on a quieter weekday to be able to try more of the vendors and really see what was on offer, it was quite crowded, but still a vibe.

We walked around this area for a while, going in some of the shops (my husband bought a lovely puffer jacket from the new Rains store) and we soaked up the atmosphere and rich history. There are so many historical buildings, alongside some very, very modern ones. I recognised so many places from my favourite, Pretty City London book.

Taking photos of classic and unusual cars is one of my favourite things to do, I love cars and wherever I am I seem to spot them. London had so many, lots of colourful and expensive cars, as well as lots of old classics too, I might have to do a whole post dedicated to them, but I have included a few of my faves in this post, the pink McLaren at St Pancras Station, the blue, grey and green Porsche Taycans and the cute mint green fiat 500. They can make a photo look so much more interesting.

One thing London has in abundance are pretty shop windows and facades with so much history and detail. I think the old style ones are beautiful and so interesting. Around every corner, there is so much to notice and take in, you could simply wander up and down the streets all day and never get bored or run out of places to see.

St Pancreas is such a beautiful landmark, the train station and the hotel and both stunning, also just over the road is Origins Coffee Shop (underneath the British Library) it’s small but if you manage to get a seat in the window it is ideally positioned for some serious people watching. The coffee is 10/10, so too is the matcha, and they offer a small but delicious section of cakes, cookies and treats.

Alongside all the car photos I took, I just couldn’t resist taking lots of pictures of all the cute Notting Hill houses, they are colourful and charming. Every single street in this neighbourhood is stunning and so well looked after, it is easy to see why it is such a popular destination not only for tourists but also to live. It has a village feel even though it is in a major city.

What part of London do you tend to stay in, explore? Let me know if you have any recommendations of places to see and your top places to eat / drink?

How to slick back hair: The ultimate guide

by Lina Clémence June 16, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

There is no more timeless hairstyle for the discerning gentleman than the slick back hairstyle. Made famous by James Dean and Elvis Presley in days gone by, and by contemporary style icon, David Beckham, this timeless and classic hairstyle has remained a popular style down through the years.

David Beckham has proved two things over the years – firstly, it’s impossible for him to look bad with any hairstyle, with the possible exception of the headband? And secondly, that the classic pompadour is one of the most sophisticated looks around, and looks equally great on the green carpet of a football pitch, or the red carpets of the global fashion weeks.

What is slick back hair?

Put simply, its hair that is pushed backward either with the hand or using a comb. Whether it’s classic pompadour, the slicked back undercut or the slick back fade, the basic style is the same.

Careful, though, danger lurks here; you might well achieve the perfect style, but if it’s at the expense of looking like you’ve dipped your head in an oil drum (remember Ross in Friends?) then you’re not going to be smoldering in your next Instagram post, but more likely scaring off any potential ‘likers’. Luckily, we’ve got your back. As well as looking at the different slick back hairstyles and how they differ, we are also going to take a look into the best products for you to achieve this timeless, versatile look.

The History of the Slick Back

The Slick Back style originated in the Edwardian era hairstyles of the poorer people (1901-1910). The undercut style was developed by barbers who were often not skilled enough to blend the back and sides into the longer hair worn on top.

The undercut style was made popular during the early 20th Century when criminal gangs such as the Peaky Blinders sported the undercut style with well-coiffed hair up top. This was partly because having long hair was dangerous during fights! Of course, we are not suggesting that you start fighting once you have the slick back style!

The undercut, which probably would have had some form of slick back on top, lasted until the 1960s when American artists and the so-called British Invasion bands, such as the Beatles and the Rolling Stones became popular and brought their long hairstyles with them.

Along with the undercut, the Pompadour was made popular among young men in the 1950s and 60s by young rock and roll stars such as Elvis Presley. The name and style are taken from Madame de Pompadour, a mistress of the French King Louis XV. Essentially, the hair is worn high over the forehead and then swept back towards the back of the head.

If you combine the undercut and the pompadour, you basically get the modern, slicked back hairstyle. This hairstyle was worn by the likes of Channing Tatum and Brad Pitt, which is also a popular choice for the ‘Scandi’ look, particularly when worn with a full beard.

The Classic Slick Back

In any discussion on how to slick back hair, it’s pretty well unanimous that the classic slick back is the one to start with. Truly a timeless look, this style looks just as great in the office, as it does on a night out.

The classic slick back

Bear in mind that whilst this style is easy to maintain and style in the morning, ideal for the modern man on the go, sadly it isn’t for everyone. Those with very curly hair will struggle to keep their hair in place. This type of hair will most likely revert to its normal style, but with an overkill product in it. It’s also not ideal for those with very fine hair, as it won’t carry the product well and can look more invisible than styled.

If you’re blessed with the perfect hair type for the pompadour, however, then the classic slicked back hairstyle might be the best place for you to start.

This is the easiest style to maintain, although we do recommend washing your hair, or at least rinsing it regularly due to the amount of product you will need to use to hold it all in place.

Ask your barber or hairdresser for a grade two or three on the sides. This will make it look different from the slicked back undercut, and ask him to keep the top as long as possible. Then, right out of the shower, apply some strong hold Pomade to your hair. Work it through evenly, and push your hair back with your fingers or a fine-toothed comb. Allow your hair to dry naturally and you’re all set to go. You can use softer products, of course, but you will run the risk of straggling hairs starting to work loose as the day goes on.

The classic slick back

Side Parting Slick Back

Slightly trickier than the classic slick back hairstyle, the side parting slick back adds another, more modern definition to your style.

With this look, the tendency is to keep the sides a little longer, with a fade from the bottom up. The side parting should be nicely defined with a trimmer to ensure the sharpest of looks. The top is kept longer but is defined using thinning scissors before being styled.

To style the side parting slick back, simply apply the product of your choice to wet or damp hair and style into the parting with your hands. You can blow-dry to add volume and shape to your style. Use a straightening iron to smooth out any stray curls.

We’ll be looking some more at the best products for slicked back hair shortly.

Side parting slick back

The Slick Back Undercut and the Slick Back Fade

If you really want to stand out from the crowd and make a lasting impression, the slick back undercut or fade are for you. These dramatic looking styles really modernize the classic slick back hairstyle and bring them right up to date.

The undercut removes most of the length from the sides and the back, leaving just the longer hair on top, creating a look similar to Brad Pitt in the movie Fury. The longer section of the hair should hang over the undercut, shorter hair at the back.

Add some drama, add a fade…

For even more drama, add a fade – starting at the skin at the base of your hair. Ask your barber or stylist to gradually increase the gradient as you move up the head to your slick back. The fade isn’t for everyone, and might not suit every face and head shape. Therefore be sure to ask your barber or stylist for assistance before committing yourself to the electric trimmers.

How to Slick back your hair

Now that we’ve looked at the styles and the variations, it’s time to move on and look at how to create your new style.

The first, and most important, step in the process is to find the right barber or hairdresser for you. It may sound obvious, but you really need to be confident that your barber understands what you are looking for, and can achieve that look. Don’t be afraid to shop around.

Once you have found your barber soul mate, you need to choose the style that you´d like to go for. Again, a great hairdresser can help you here with some valuable advice as to what will suit your face shape and hair type.

Once you have your cut, it’s time to style your hair.

Before we start, it’s important to mention that you need to make sure you’re looking after your hair, not just for the sake of its health, but also to achieve the best results when styling.

Step 1: Wash & condition

Start out by washing and conditioning your hair with a great nourishing shampoo and conditioner to remove excess oil, product residue, and dirt.

Step 2: Protect

So, having washed your hair, apply some serum or protective product to your hair. Work the product all the way through, particularly if you’re going to use hot styling products such as hairdryers or straightening irons. Some pre-styling products will also have protective qualities and will allow you to do much of the styling without having to use too much wax, clay or pomade, and risking an oily finish.

Step 3: Blow-dry & shape

If blow drying, it’s a good idea to use a rounded brush and brush the hair from the base up and backward, which will give your style definition and add height.

Step 4: Style

Once you have the shape, you can add your final product to the hair. Work it in thoroughly and ensure full coverage to get the desired effect.

Step 5: Finish

For the side parting, ensure the parting line is clear and well defined and that it’s as straight as it can be. A good comb is ideal for this. When it comes to combs, if you want a more casual, relaxed look, you can style with your fingers, which will give the hair less definition but will make it look more relaxed. If you are looking for a more classic 40´s look, a comb is a great tool to invest in. The comb will give you more control over individual strands and help keep your hair as a whole in place.

To blow-dry or not to blow dry? That is the question.

If your wife, girlfriend or sister has a hairdryer, why not try out a blow-dried look. This will add style, definition and even height to your slicked back hair. Remember, however, that heat and hair don’t really mix, so you´ll need to protect your hair with a serum or protective hair care product. Use the heat on the lowest setting available and try not to hold the heat in one place for too long.

Don’t rush out and buy the latest Dyson product, however. You don’t have to have a hairdryer to achieve the slick back style. If you don’t want any height in your hair and are going for a slightly more conservative look. We do recommend applying your product to damp hair and allowing it to dry naturally if you’re not using a hairdryer. It’s a good idea to towel dry your hair from wet to damp, though, if you’re not going to blow dry.

Best products for slicked back hair

There are a lot of products out there for men’s grooming, and many of them are very good. When it comes to the slick back hairstyle you need something that is going to hold your hair in place without making you look like you’ve slid down a greased fireman’s pole and something which won´t dry out your hair and scalp and cause flaking.

For volume and bounce, we recommend a pre-styling spray. This will help protect your hair from the styling process, especially when using a hair dryer or straightening irons. It will also give your hair the height you need to really pull off the slick back definition. The Sidekick spray from By Vilain is the perfect addition to your styling range. Sidekick not only provides heat protection it also increases styling options as well as adding texture, volume and hold. It’s not limited to the slick back either. In fact, you can use all of the By Vilain products to create many different styles.

After that, you need a product to hold your hair in place. The definition comes from the pre-styling spray, of course. You don’t want to add too much to your hair, which will make it look oily. Depending on your type of hair, and the slick back hairstyle that you´d like to have, there are a number of products you can choose from. We really love the By Vilain Gold Digger wax, which provides a super strong hold with a matte finish, which is unusual for a wax and very unique.

If you want to go for the more traditional look for your slick back, however, you could always go for a pomade. By Vilain have you covered here, too, with their Powermade. Yay or Nay? Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Serum

by Lina Clémence June 16, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

You’ll have to excuse me – I meant to post about this weeks ago, but the thing is… I have a system. I test a product, I write about it, I stop using it so I can start testing the next shiny serum in my lineup – rinse, repeat, glow (or not).

But then Shiseido Ultimune came along and totally messed with my skincare commitment issues. I didn’t want to stop using it, so I just… didn’t post. No post, no reason to move on, right? (Think like: “If I don’t define the relationship, I can still text my ex.”)

Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Serum – 50ml – $150, 75ml – $195, 75ml refill – $172 – This powerhouse boosts your skin’s resilience against aging and environmental damage, while serving up hydration, glow, and smoothness like it’s hosting its own Canada’s Got Talent variety show.

The silky-smooth formula is basically a botanical Avengers team-up with high-tech backup, featuring:

Fermented camellia flower extract – bringing over 14 amino acids to the party to power up skin regeneration like it’s chugging collagen lattes for breakfast; Camellia seed oil – the moisturizing MVP; Camellia leaf extract – helps suppress inflammation like a therapist with a skincare license; Heart leaf extract – sounds cute, works hard, boosts skin immunity and restores rhythm (Beyoncé would approve); and of course, the brand’s own ULTIMUNE complex – like a bodyguard for your skin, slowing the aging cycle and leaving your face looking healthy, happy and suspiciously well-rested.

Now listen, I try a lot of serums. For most of them, I talk about texture, scent, and what they say they’re supposed to do, because I’m usually on to the next one faster than a Love Island contestant in week 2 (who are we kidding, DAY 2). But Ultimune had me locked in. I kept using it longer than I typically do, but – plot twist – I didn’t even have to, I actually saw results within a couple of weeks: more radiance, smoother texture, deeply hydrated skin and dare I say it, the fine lines around my nose? Practically ghosted me!

So is it a Yay or Nay?

It’s a Hallelujah, take my money YAY!

Bonus round: when I’m ready for a top-up, I don’t have to rebuy the whole fancy bottle. There’s a refill that saves money and the planet – and if that’s not self-care-meets-sustainability, I don’t know what is!

7 Best Sustainable Fashion Marketplaces

by Lina Clémence June 16, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

To navigate through the sea of earth-minded and socially responsible brands, there are some well-curated sustainable fashion marketplaces handpicking beautiful products for the discerning and mindful shopper.

While the growth of ethical and slow fashion and lifestyle products is exciting, this growth has also led to a whole lot of greenwashing and “fair-washing”. That’s why I’ve curated this set of marketplaces that source truly responsibly-made products you can trust.

That said, the terms “ethical”, “sustainable”, and “conscious” can take on different meanings to different people based upon their own personal value systems, so each site curates and sorts their goods based on standards they specify on their site.

Each eco-friendly and ethical online shop in this guide offers up something a little different from the next with their aesthetics, ethical criteria, and price point.

Take a peek at the sites included here to find one that suits both your value standards and style!

Note that this guide to sustainable fashion marketplaces features affiliates and partners. As always I only include brands that meet high standards for ethics and style!

With everything from sleepwear to scarves and baskets to bedding ourCommonplace is an amazing curated online marketplace for shopping responsibly-made goods in sustainable fashion and home.

All products in the online shop meet at least two of the following six standards.

  • BIPOC-Owned: supports inclusive representation in the conscious lifestyle space and helps reduce the racial wealth gap by empowering businesses owned Black, Indigenous, and People of Color brand owners and founders.
  • Cruelty-free: ensures that no animals were killed, hurt, or tested on in the making of these goods.
  • Ethical: these are products from brands that follow just production practices such as paying fair wages, ensuring safe working conditions, and more.
  • Sustainable: brands using earth-minded materials (think natural fibers and recycled materials), processes, and packaging throughout their supply chain.
  • Toxic-Free: products that have been thoroughly vetted and verified to not contain harsh chemicals.
  • Women-Owned: supports women entrepreneurship and helps reduce the gender income and business owner representation gaps.

Pro Tip: you can “Shop Your Values” by sorting products by each of their standards using their top menu bar.

A Fashion Expert’s Take on Brunello Cucinelli’s Winter 2024 Collection

by Lina Clémence June 16, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Interviewer: Brunello Cucinelli recently rejected the term “quiet luxury” for his Winter 2024 collection, instead championing “gentle luxury.” What does that mean?

Italist Fashion Expert: Cucinelli believes that “quiet luxury” oversimplifies the depth of his craftsmanship. For him, true luxury is bold and full of life—every stitch, every material tells a story. Gentle luxury emphasizes balance: it’s elegant without being ostentatious, soft yet strong, and rooted in tradition but open to modern expression. It’s a more human, ethical approach to luxury, where the focus is on quality, care, and community.

Interviewer: How is this philosophy reflected in the new ready to wear collection?

Italist Fashion Expert: In the ready collection, you see rich textures like cashmere and leather, but there’s also a fresh energy. Earthy tones ground the collection, but then unexpected bursts of coral red and lobster orange bring boldness and optimism. It’s a perfect embodiment of gentle luxury—elegance with an uplifting, joyful spirit.

Interviewer: How does Cucinelli’s commitment to slow fashion fit into this?

Italist Fashion Expert: His focus on slow fashion aligns with gentle luxury perfectly. It’s about creating fewer, better pieces that last—crafted with sustainability in mind and rooted in ethical sourcing. Cucinelli’s garments are meant to endure in both quality and style, celebrating artistry and long-lasting value.

Pockets of Sunshine

by Lina Clémence June 16, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Thank you to Lane Bryant for sponsoring this post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Hi Lovies,

During this crazy time in the world, it is so important to find things that bring you joy. Everyday I try to find little pockets of sunshine to keep me going. It’s honestly helped me get this far without losing my mind. I’ve definitely learned to enjoy the little things, life is too short, and live in the moment. So recently my pocket of sunshine has been getting dressed up as much as possible. It makes me feel good, puts a smile on my face and brings me peace.

Now you know that I am a dress girl, so when I feel like showing out that’s what I gravitate too. Thankfully Lane Bryant got me covered in that department with their fabulous selection of dresses. This Crossover High-Low Midi Dress was calling my name when I saw it on their site. The palm print was pretty with mixture of pinks and greens. I loved the feminine feel of it, the how it defined my waist. It’s definitely one of those dresses that look great when the wind hits it just right. Give me all the flutter and flowiness! While I’m not ready for the fall, this dress can easily be transition into that season with a denim or moto jacket and a pair of cute booties. Just like that and I’m fall ready.

I hope the little things that I’ve shared with you that bring me pockets of sunshine inspire you to do the same. And of course a little retail therapy doesn’t hurt either so make sure to head over to Lane Bryant and check out this dress and their new arrivals for some style inspiration!

Thanks for reading!!

Wine Not?

by Lina Clémence June 16, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Thank you to Lane Bryant for sponsoring this post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Hi Lovies,

Summer is my favorite time of the year not only because of the fashion but all the fun colors I can wear. What I love about fashion is how it has evolved over the years. Typically most people will wear bright and bold colors for summer but now with fashion, anything goes! I’ve fallen in love with the Wine Hues trend. The gorgeous burgundy, yellows, pinks and browns are just stunning colors. Luckily Lane Bryant is up on this trend and has some great pieces to choose from!

Dress/Shoes/Sunnies/Necklace/Earrings/Bracelet

I love a good Maxi dress and this Sleeveless Tiered Stripe Maxi Dress is giving me my wine hues dreams! The knit fabric is super stretchy, and extremely comfortable. While the colorful vertical stripes flatters the figure. The straps are adjustable and wide enough to cover your bra which is awesome. Also bonus points for adding pockets to this dress. Oh did I mention it also comes in petites! Yas!

Dress/Shoes/Sunnies/Necklace/Earrings/Bracelet

Now let’s not forgot some fun sunnies and comfy shoes to finish off the look. I enjoy a sassy pair of sunnies and these Butterfly Square Sunnies totally hit the mark. Love the hint of yellow and funky square shape.
To complete the look I added the Dream Cloud Platform Wedge Sandal. When I tell you these are the most comfiest sandals I own, I’m not exaggerating. They have an additional 5mm of cushion padding for extra comfort. I walked in these all day and it felt like I was walking on a cloud!

This summer, step out the box and try out some different and fun trends. Head over to Lane Bryant to shop this look and tons of other great summer options. Let me know in the comments what you think of this look and if you like the Wine Hue trend.

Thanks for reading!
