How To Preserve Your Herbs For Winter

One of the joys of having a kitchen garden is the endless supply of fresh herbs just a snip away. I grow an abundance of herbs each year, thyme, rosemary, parsley, sage and more. There’s nothing quite like using fresh herbs to elevate the flavour of a roast dinner, which is one of our favourite meals to cook in the winter months. But as the cooler months approach, I always find myself faced with the same dilemma: how do I ensure all those beautiful herbs don’t go to waste?!

Thankfully, I’ve found a few simple and effective ways to preserve herbs for use throughout the winter. Here are my top three methods for locking in their flavour, aroma and goodness well beyond the growing season.

1. Freezing in Ice Cube Trays with Olive Oil

This is my go-to method for herbs like sage, thyme and rosemary. It’s quick, easy, and perfect for popping into soups, stews, or right into a roasting tray.

How to do it

Chop the herbs finely.

Place a spoonful into each compartment of an ice cube tray.

Top up with good-quality extra virgin olive oil. I get mine from Citizens of Soil (use code OLIVEJOSIE10).

Freeze until solid, then transfer the cubes to a silicone bag and store in the freezer.

These little cubes are incredibly handy—just drop one into a pan when cooking for an instant burst of flavour.

2. Drying – Best for Woody Herbs

Woody herbs like rosemary, thyme, and oregano hold up beautifully when dried. Drying is one of the oldest methods of preservation and works wonders if done correctly.

Here’s how I do it

Gather small bundles of herbs and tie the stems together with kitchen string.

Hang them upside down in a dry, well-ventilated space out of direct sunlight.

After about two weeks, the herbs should feel dry and crumble easily between your fingers.

Once fully dried, strip the leaves from the stems and store them in airtight jars. They’ll last for months and are perfect for seasoning roast meats and vegetables.

3. Infusing in Bottles of Oil

Infused oils not only preserve herbs but also make beautiful gifts (if you can bear to part with them). I love infusing herbs such as oregano and rosemary in olive oil—it adds a rich, aromatic depth to roasted dishes and salad dressings.

To make herb-infused oil

Use clean, sterilised bottles.

Lightly bruise or chop the herbs to release their natural oils.

Add them to the bottle and top up with extra-virgin olive oil.

Seal and store in a cool, dark place for 1–2 weeks, shaking gently every day to help the flavours to infuse.

Make sure to refrigerate and use within a month or so.

Preserving herbs for winter means I can enjoy a little taste of summer even on the coldest days of the year. Whether we’re basting a roast chicken with rosemary oil or tossing a frozen cube of thyme into root vegetables, these preserved herbs keep the flavour alive long after the garden has gone to sleep over winter.

This post is long overdue but I can’t wait to share my thoughts and swatches of the NARS Afterglow Lipstick! If you’re a fan of a wearable every day formula, you are going to want this in your makeup routine. I’ve been obsessed with the high shine finish and how nourishing it feels on my lips. Read on for more photos and my thoughts!

NARS Afterglow Sensual Shine Lipstick

Many of NARS new releases are in this pretty rose gold color instead of the classic rubber black finish. I love this modern take as it provides more of a feminine energy and makes it feel fun instead of professional. The tube of this lipstick is a bit different from traditional lipsticks as it’s much thinner. The tip is also slanted which I like as it provides a more precise application.

Formula

Everyone is sporting a shiny lip these days and you can get color, shine AND hydration with the NARS Afterglow Sensual Shine Lipstick. Each of these shades has a medium color payoff, a beautiful natural shine, and also hydration for your lips. There’s no stickiness at all and no scent so it’s a very comfortable wear. The formula also includes many nourishing and hydrating ingredients such as mango butter and shea butter!

888 Dolce Vita

Starting off with my favorite shade, NARS 888 Dolce Vita. This dusty rose is the perfect natural lip color for me. This formula glides right over the lips and I like keeping this shade in my purse for touch ups!

208 Devotion

This shade looks similar to Dolce Vita in the tube but applies much more like a brown! I like wearing this more in the fall and winter. It’s interesting that even though it looks very similar to Dolce Vita in the photo, the color is so different when swatched or on the lips. This shade also glides nicely over my lips and provides a pretty shine.

777 Orgasm

Even though Orgasm is NAR’s iconic shade, I couldn’t get this to work on my lips. Light pink shades tend not to be flattering for me. For some reason, this shade also accentuates any dry flakes and really settles into my lip lines. The color looks gorgeous on the models though and maybe if your natural lip colors are lighter, it could be more suitable for you.

Menurutku ini salah satu obat totol jerawat dengan
ingredients yang cukup lengkap lho. Salicylic Acid dan Sulfur telah terbukti dapat
meredakan jerawat, ditambah dengan ingredients seperti Kaolin, Lactobionic
Acid, dan Niacinamide membuat produk ini lebih efektif meredakan dan merawat
kulit berjerawat. Sedikit info, Lactobionic Acid (PHA) merupakan active-ingredients namun molekulnya
lebih besar sehingga lebih gentle dan aman untuk kulit sensitive. Jadi enggak
heran kalau ada sensasi cekit-cekit sedikit pada jerawat setelah di totolin
obat jerawat ini.

Teksturnya ada 2 lapisan terpisah, yaitu air dan endapan
bubuk pink. Cara penggunaannya DILARANG DI KOCOK. Biarkan bubuk warna pink nya
mengendap dan cairan diatasnya terlihat jernih. Pokoknya lebih baik jangan di
kocok-kocok.

Kemudian celupkan cotton bud pada endapan pink dan totolkan
pada jerawat. Untuk menjaga kehigienisan
please ganti cotton bud yang baru kalau mau ambil cairan endapan lagi. Tahu kan
maksudku yessss? Hahaha.

Waktu pemakaiannya aku sarankan digunakan pada malam hari
agar tidak menganggu aktifitas. Ada sensasi semriwing tapi minimal banget sih,
hampir tidak terasa kalau dikulitku. Pada jerawat yang sedang meradang tidak
perih ataupun pedih. Kalau biasanya obat totol jerawat Sulfur tuh suka rontok
di bantal kan ya, tapi untuk NOERA Acne Drying Lotion enggak mudah rontok. Pagi
hari masih nempel di area yang semalam aku totolin, padahal tidurku juga grusak-grusuk. Hahaa

Noera Acne DryingLotion jadi salah satu rekomendasi obat
totol jerawat berbahan dasar sulfur yang bisa membantu mengempeskan jerawat dalam
satu malam. Aku sudah pakai ini sekitar 2 bulanan dan ak bakal bilang ini oke

Pretty runny right?

I would say that this has the essence texture, which is easily absorb into the skin. I uses this as the second step in my skincare routine because it is quite runny and would absorb better in fresh skin more than on top of other skincares.

It does feel cool once I applied the essence on and I did like it because it cools down the temperature of my skin thus making it less oilier. The tannin and BHA is surely a plus point of this product although I had
to cut off a lot of BHA skincare to give way to this so that I don’t
over exfoliate.

I read from Sokoglam that this essence can be used after blackhead extraction or to calm any redness. Although I don’t really do blackhead extraction because I barely got any (from a good skincare of course!) so I expected it to calm my redness that usually got after face wash.

So far, I don’t really see a major difference like I’m not really sure what it actually does to my skin in these two months because my skin were quite behaving because I don’t see much redness nor acne coming out that often but I do like the fact it feels cool on the skin and feels like it “tightens” my pores in the morning before I put on my makeup.

But I do think that it contributes to my “behaving” skin as I see less whiteheads and blackheads were pretty much nonexistent.

Overall, this is pretty nice! It doesn’t break me out or sting my skin and it absorbs pretty well too without much effort. The thing that I like the most if cooling effect it has from the menthyl lactate, although it disappear after a while.

Guerlain has revamped their iconic Rouge G lipstick and customizable cases, along with launching new coordinating lip pencils, and the brand was kind enough to send a few pieces along for me to try. Everything is obviously gorgeous, but will they perform?

Rouge G Lipstick (CAN $52.00/each) | Guerlain has gone back to the drawing board and retooled what was already a phenomenal product, yet the brand somehow found a way to make it even better. The new Rouge G lipstick (available in a range of satin and/or velvet finishes) has been reinvented in an ultra-care version that is still highly pigmented and long-wearing, but now has a formula that is up to 89% skincare based. Exclusively developed with natural origin waxes, the formula also now includes a lily oleo extract with smoothing and regenerating properties to provide constant comfort throughout wear. The Velvet bullets also have a fine crosshatch pattern on them for an extra visual kick. The texture is buttery and glides effortlessly along the lips, providing full coverage by the first swipe. The satin finish has a beautiful sheen to it, while the velvet finish has a lush richness to it. Also refillable, it should be noted that these lipsticks have been resized to fit the new cases, which means you will not be able to fit these bullets on cases previously available.

Rouge G Customizable Lipstick Case (CAN $48.00/each) | Reinvented to fit the accompanying Rouge G Lipsticks, the brand’s iconic flip-up double mirrored case is now gold toned (previously all metal was silver hued), and slightly reduced in size; by removing 19% of its weight in the manufacturing process, Guerlain has succeeded in reducing CO2 emissions by 30%, further proof of the brand’s ecological commitment. Available in 9 stay in line patterns (currently there is also an Emilio Pucci limited edition version), they are divided into 3 groups: The Timeless: Le Croco (shown), Le Nude, and Le Camel, The Ornaments: Le Strassé (shown), L’Art Deco, and Le Marbre, and The Patterns: Le Fauve (shown), Les Studs, and L’Écaille. Each collectible-worthy case is like a miniature work of art, but their functionality is also something I really appreciate in their design.

Select boutiques also offer an engraving service, further adding to the customizable aspect of each case.

Contour G Lip Pencil (CAN $43.00/each) | Available in 6 shades, each pencil also comes with it’s own sharpener. The formula is highly pigmented, long lasting and said to be transfer proof, containing castor oil and botanical squalane for comfort throughout wear. The texture glides easily along the lips without tugging the skin, and once in place it does a great job of prevent your lipstick from bleeding.

Even though I don’t wear lipstick on a day to day basis, when I do, I want a formula that will feel as good as it looks; Guerlain delivers beautifully on all counts. Sebenarnya apa sih Maskne itu? Maskne adalah kondisi munculnya jerawat atau masalah kulitnya yang disebabkan oleh penggunaan masker yang terlalu lama.

Maskne sendiri bisa terjadi karena di dalam kulit kita sudah ada sebum, bakteri dan sel kulit mati, kemudian ditutup oleh masker, akhirnya terjadilah iritasi / jerawat / bruntusan pada kulit.

Jujur, selama pandemi, aku kaget banget kulit tiba-tiba jadi kasar dan semakin sensitif. Hari ini aku akan kasih tau gimana caranya aku mengatasi dan mencegah Maskne. Ternyata gampang banget! Nggak perlu, 15 Step Products. Cukup dua langkah saja!
