5 Mistakes I consistently make in my beauty routine (so you don’t have to)

by Lina Clémence June 1, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

I’ve been writing about beauty since 2009, but arguably been a part of the beauty world since my early teens. Which makes it a long time. As soon as pocket money became a thing for me, so did beauty shopping. Going to Boots or Superdrug and spending my first Saturday job money on products is a core memory and Christmas lists with Juicy Tubes and Touché Eclat really did define my teenage years. Not to mention a pretty high level obsession with CK One (which I revisited on a recent duty free purchase).

Ultimately, not much has changed, a beauty purchase is always my go-to for a feel good moment (that or mac and cheese). But even as 40 creeps up on me, I still make many a beauty mistake. I am definitely not the vision of perfection seen so often online these days. So I decided to confess them so maybe someone else can avoid the errors I consistently make.

1. SPF

Yes, I absolutely wear it every day. It is very much non-negotiable. However, until recently I definitely was NOT applying enough so my factor 50 was probably about as protective as factor 5. But my biggest mistake? Not re-applying AND only doing so on my face. My hands? Unless it’s a heatwave SPF just doesn’t factor. Wearing sandals, ankles exposed? It’s highly likely they are SPF free. An oversight and one I plan to correct.

So what is the ‘right’ way? Apply around two finger-lines worth of SPF to face daily. Re-apply every two hours when out in the sun. And don’t neglect the non-face areas. Hands, feet, ankles, anywhere not covered by clothes could do with a layer of SPF. For re-application I would lean towards a face mist type product personally but that’s totally personal choice.

2. Not hydrating.

Sure, I moisturise, layer on the serums, the essences and the creams. But do I ALWAYS drink enough water? No, I do not. Somedays sure, I am a hydrated machine and surgically attached to my giant water bottle (not a Stanley FYI) Other days I am fuelled by coffee and Coke Zero. In fact as I write this The above drinks were delivered to my table… so let’s never say I am not honest (replace Coke Zero with Pepsi Max Cherry for the sake of this point).

Mission for 2024 to correct this? Hydrate from the inside as well as the outside. More water. Probably same amount of caffeine but yes, more water please.

3. Using expired products.

I know, I’ve seen all the expiry date stuff and things about the bacteria but at the same time I do often subscribe to the ‘as long as the texture or smell hasn’t changed’ rule in my beauty life. Sometimes if I love a product I don’t want to let it go if there’s still some left and it’s passed the ‘expiry’. I should also note I am the total opposite of this when it comes to any sort of food expiry date situation.

I am also a bit of a hoarder collector of beauty products and have an archive of old limited editions, classic discontinued products and the like that are well passed their expiry – however I don’t use these, so do consider it different. Earlier today I was just starting to apply some makeup and tried to think back to when I started using my current go-to mascara (Eyeko Limitless FYI – it’s fantastic) it’s been a while and it’s definitely started to dry up, so have cracked open the Merit Beauty Clean Mascara – will see how it compares. First impressions are it’s very soft.

4. Blunt razors.

Should shaving be your preference if you decide hair removal is for you, then you probably already know the difference between a blunt or a fresh blade. I am also aware of this, but do I change them as frequently as I should. No, I don’t. Should I? Yes.

Benefits of a fresh blade? Less irritation, closer shave result/longer lasting smooth feeling. Less chance of cuts. The lists go on. I’m just not always good at remembering until I’m already in the shower and by the time I’m there.. I just crack on with whatever I have available as time is usually of the essence!

5. Using viral products

Sure, if a product genuinely goes viral (doesn’t just decide it’s a great marketing campaign to tell everyone their product is viral) then there’s usually a decent reason for it. It might work like a charm, but that doesn’t always mean it works like a charm for me.

Now, I can’t stress how much of a marketers dream I am. You stick the word miracle in a product description and I am clamouring to throw my money at you. Tell me I will glow – take my kidney, I don’t need two. When I say I will fall for hype, I am telling the hand on heart truth. Same applies for telling me a product is limited edition or selling out. However there’s a tonne of products that I am sure are lovely but really doesn’t mean they’re lovely for me. For example the Gisou Hair Oil, I’m sure it’s wonderful for those Internet girls with hair to rival show ponies. But me with my fine hair plus postpartum regrowth? Let’s just day it’s not for me. Absolutely not question this being an ace product, but just having that little sense-check voice before I fall for the hype yet again will serve me and my bank account well going forward.

Other minor errors include:

– Believing this time I can definitely nail the application of winged eye liner. I can do this but only ever on one side, never both.

– Ever thinking I can do my own bikini wax (absolutely not, this will end in injury)

– Consistently messing up fake tan (I have no solutions for this, I’ve read all the advice and expert tips and still mess it up every time)

I’m sure the list could be added to endlessly, but that will do for now. Feel free to share any of your beauty mistakes with me to make me feel mildly less of a beauty failure!

How Do You Do Your Eyeliner?

by Lina Clémence June 1, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Meow-za!

You’re probably gonna laugh with how haphazard I am with makeup these days, but it’s the best I can do with the time I have, so here it is: I use a twist-up, long wearing gel pencil (MAC Colour Excess) and draw a messy line on my upper lash line with no concern about the precision at all, LOL! If it’s too thick, then I smudge it out. If it’s too thin, then I figure the makeup goddesses wanted it to look that way, so I go with it. I don’t even bother trying to line my waterline, either. I usually layer eyeshadow on top of it anyway, so I’m not overly concerned. Seriously, THAT’S IT!

How about you? How do are you doing your liner these days?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

REWORKING MY WARDROBE – Lily Pebbles

by Lina Clémence May 31, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

After having my first baby I felt totally lost when it came to how to dress. My wardrobe was filled with t-shirts that didn’t fit and worked best tucked into high waisted jeans, trousers that didn’t suit my new body shape and shirts that didn’t sit right on my broader shoulders. It felt like someone else’s wardrobe and it took me a really long time to let go of older items that didn’t work any more and find newer styles that felt right. To be honest I’m not sure I ever really got to a comfortable place with my style before getting pregnant again two years later; the pandemic and the ability to wear loungewear most days probably didn’t help. The reality is you’re pregnant for 10 months, which is almost a year and during that time all style goes out the window, well for me it does anyway. So here I am, three months postpartum after three and a half years of either being pregnant or confused about what to wear, and I think I’ve finally worked it out.

I can’t tell you why, but after my first baby I felt like I’d lost myself, but after my second I feel like I’ve found myself again. For the first time in years I look forward to buying clothes, to getting dressed and I don’t totally hate looking at photos of myself. Honestly I know this all sounds a bit shallow, and trust me I never thought or cared so much about this before but I think the mix of hormones and exhaustion just messes with you as a new parent and you crave a bit of self confidence. So what’s actually different this time? Because I still have a postpartum body and everything that comes with it, I still have the exhaustion… But maybe because it’s my second time the changes are less shocking, I was more prepared and the big wardrobe change has already happened so I have more options this time. Also call me old fashioned, I don’t know if this is actually true but the hormone imbalance I felt having a girl pregnancy and birth vs a boy one was SO different.

There’s also something to be said for just getting older and more confident in your own style choices. There’s something very freeing about having the confidence to wear what you feel comfortable in, instead of what you think you’re expected to wear.

So let me try to pin point the main changes in my wardrobe over the past few years as I’ve transitioned into a new lifestyle and a new body shape. The tighter graphic tees have been switched out for a more classic white tshirt with a bit more structure, slightly longer arms and longer in length allowing for a french tuck rather than fully tucked in. Other options instead of a graphic t-shirt would be a looser long sleeved top or a ribbed vest top layered under an oversized cardigan or linen shirt. The skinny jeans (although sometimes still worn with a longer oversized jumper) have been replaced with a more flattering straight leg jean, which kind of balances out my shape a bit more. I used to wear a lot of fine knit sweaters, but these days I find they just don’t sit comfortably on me and I prefer a heavier knit. I especially like if they have a zip neckline, to create a more flattering shape. I used to wear a lot of shorter jackets, but they make me look quite top heavy and so these days I prefer a longer line trench or wool coat.

Like I said, I feel totally different after this last pregnancy as I did the first time round so don’t be hard on yourself if you feel lost and like you no longer have a clue what to wear. It will come back! But in the meantime I found using Instagram really helpful for putting outfits together. It’s easy to get into a rut of wearing the same top and jeans combination, but all it takes is a few extra pieces to make an outfit feel more complete and to make you feel more confident in it. Save any outfits you see and like, then shop your wardrobe to see if you can recreate it.

Here are some of the newer pieces in my wardrobe that I’m loving.

My Super Easy Exfoliating Coffee Scrub Recipe

by Lina Clémence May 31, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

We get through a lot of coffee in our household; both Charlie and I adore coffee, and as you may know, we each have our own coffee machine! I recently upgraded my coffee machine to the wonderful Ninja Luxe Cafe, which is a well-priced bean-to-cup coffee machine that makes delicious coffee. I’ve got into a good habit of using our discarded coffee grounds in the garden in autumn and winter; the grounds are full of nutrients and therefore can improve the nutrition of your soil. However, it’s not advised to add coffee grounds to your soil during spring, as it can be a bit intense for your young shoots.

This led me to think of another way to use my discarded grounds (waste not, want not!); by creating an exfoliating coffee scrub! Coffee grounds have the perfect texture to gently exfoliate the skin, plus they are rich in antioxidants which can help protect the skin from damage. Read on for my coffee scrub recipe, which can be used on your hands, body and face!

Ingredients

Medium sized jar

150g coffee grounds

75g coconut oil

75g brown sugar

10 drops of an essential oil (I used lime & lemongrass)

Method

Spread your coffee grounds out in a tray and leave them somewhere to dry out for at least 30 minutes, such as in the sun or on top of a radiator.

Add the coconut oil to your glass jar and either microwave it for 30s or place in the oven (set to 100C) for around 5 minutes until the coconut oil has totally melted.

Remove the jar from the oven and add in 10 drops of your essential oil, your coffee grounds and the sugar then stir.

The texture of your scrub should resemble wet sand.

Use your scrub liberally on your face, body and hands when you’re in need of exfoliation!

ZIIP DOT Spot Treatment Device Review

by Lina Clémence May 31, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

ZIIP Beauty have launched the ZIIP DOT, a brand new spot treatment device, and not only does it look cute with it’s doughnut shape but it is the world’s first microcurrent spot device!

I’ve tried microcurrent devices in the past, but none that were meant to be used for spots, only for toning the skin. I suffer from hormonal acne around my chin area, so I was really keen to test it out and see how it could help.

How Does ZIIP DOT Work?

ZIIP DOT uses Microcurrent and Nanocurrent™, two intensities of electrical current that work
together to clear acne and spots.

MICROCURRENT – The higher intensity current that treats the spots. Microcurrent has been clinically proven to reduce inflammation, swelling, and acne-causing bacteria, helping to clear breakouts more quickly.

NANOCURRENT™ – Mimics the body’s natural electrical signals, encouraging skin cell renewal and repair to soothe irritation and support healing after breakouts.

The ZIIP DOT is used with the ZIIP Clear Gel, which is blended with a sugar complex that is one
of the most conductive formulas, helping the electrical currents flow through your skin safely.

It has ingredients such as Dendriclear™ which is used in skincare products to treat acne and reduce inflammation by 87%. Mint for its antibacterial properties, as well as cucumber and aloe to cool, heal and soothe irritated skin.

BENEFITS

  • Fast-acting spot treatment
  • Calms and soothes skin instantly after use
  • Reduces redness and evens out skin tone
  • Travel-friendly
  • Reduces acne by 44%

How To Use?

With the ZIIP DOT you can treat one area or your whole face. For just one area it only takes 90 seconds, with 60 seconds of Microcurrent and then 30 seconds of Nanocurrent™.

To do one area, press the button once to turn it on and it will light up and make a beep. Apply the Clear Gel, which comes with the DOT, onto the area and then place the electrodes onto your skin.

Rotate the device clockwise and anticlockwise on the skin and ensure the probe nearest the ZIIP logo is in contact with the treatment area/spot for best results.

ZIIP-DOT-Microcurrent-Device-1

I felt a slight tingle when the probe is in contact with the spot, it isn’t sore and feels like it is getting to work. When the Microcurrent is complete it will beep and the Nanocurrent™ will begin, for this just hold it over your face and then when it completes it will switch off.

If wanting to do more areas or the whole face, just hold in the button for a few seconds and it will switch modes to do a longer treatment. With 4 minutes of Microcurrent and 2 minutes of Nanocurrent™.

Results

The ZIIP DOT was so easy to use, I loved how it only took 90 seconds. Especially as spots tend to appear when and where you least expect them, so I loved the ease and quickness for treating them.

I used it to treat my chin area and I did this over a consecutive 4 days. It brought up a spot quickly, turning it to a yellow head and I noticed it reduced the redness significantly. I followed up with more treatments until the spot had gone down considerably.

ZIIP-DOT-Before-After

This is such a convenient way to treat pesky spots that just pop up, and I think for my hormonal acne on my chin it’s a good device to help keep it under control. I love that the gel has great ingredients that won’t trigger breakouts and help target them. It’s super small too, so you can pop it in your make-up bag on a trip.

Overall I found it a much more effective and quicker way to treat spots than some skincare products I have tried.

Where To Buy & Discount Code

ZIIP DOT is £169.99 and available in four colours at ZIIP Beauty

Friday Treat : Orange Popsicle Bomber Jacket

by Lina Clémence May 30, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

[unpaid/affiliate] I was very tempted yesterday to buy this when I saw it in Oliver Bonas but annoyingly they didn’t have my size. In real life it’s a sparkling (not glittery) fine knit jacket that is perfect for cooler summer evenings when you still need to bring the vibe but don’t want to suffer for it :-). The pictures don’t do the jacket any justice at all because its an effervescent and glinting kind of orange that isn’t Tango or Easyjet but is maybe a slightly burnt orange. I wish I’d taken a picture in store now. I’d wear this with a white dress, any denim at all and also any shorts at all. That said, if you need your top covered, you probably won’t have your legs out. It’s £60 HERE in sizes 6 to 18.

The other thing I spotted is this sheer linen knit from Jigsaw. You don’t often find ‘cardigans’ at this length – it’s got wide 3/4 sleeves (and because they’re 3/4 you don’t have to worry about draping through the soup) and stops literally on the waist. It’s such a handy and flattering stopping point because it’s ideal with dresses as a not-jacket-but-something wear and the fact that it’s sheer is even better.

The model pictures use an impossibly long-legged model (or she’s been digitally stretched) that I don’t think give you quite enough of an idea of flexibility. I had a similar length, drawstring, sheer cardi from GAP and I wore it for years and wore it to death – every time I didn’t want the tops of my arms out on show, on it went, over racerback tops, strappy dresses and strappy tops and because it’s so lightweight, it’s not going to add heat of any significance. The price is a whopping £11o but when I think of all the times I wore my GAP one, it wouldn’t be wrong to think of this as money well spent. It comes in brown as well and in sizes XS to XL HERE.

My Review

My Review of MERIT Beauty Retrospect Fragrance
My Review of MERIT Beauty Retrospect Fragrance

It’s always an intriguing moment when a beauty brand steps into the world of fragrance, particularly one with MERIT’s minimalist, elevated aesthetic. Their debut scent, Retrospect L’Extrait de Parfum, is not only a thoughtful extension of the brand but I think a beautifully articulated statement of who they are.

From the very first spritz, Retrospect got my attention. The opening is a crisp, pear with aldehydes but isn’t overly fruity which I appreciate. Instead, it feels refined and atmospheric with a clean and airy vibe that evokes vintage glamour.

As the scent evolves on the skin, it softens into a smooth, musky iris and orris blend. I’m a big fan of those violet types of notes. This is where Retrospect begins to feel nostalgic in a real Margiela Lipstick On kind of way. There’s something comfortingly familiar here with the suggestion of a powder compact, a traditional face cream or old school lipstick. It’s a bit like a hug.

Though the drydown is floral and musky, it’s never heavy or cloying. Violet and rose make it feel grown up, while rosemary adds a green, almost herbal brightness that keeps it feeling modern.

There are clear echoes of skin scents like Glossier You but I think MERIT Beauty Retrospect distinguishes itself with a more layered, structured composition. It’s less minimalist and has more depth. Still probably what many would call a skin scent with perhaps more texture and dimension.

In terms of performance, it wears closer to the skin but lasts far longer than I expected it to. I think it will open up more on warmer days and I think that’s when the compliments will come. I spritzed it at a shoot and everyone had a sniff. It got very positive feedback.

MERIT Beauty Retrospect Fragrance Packaging
MERIT Beauty Retrospect Fragrance Packaging

Visually, the packaging is as considered as the fragrance itself. The navy box is elegant, the bottle has weight and presence, and while the cap can be a little awkward, it still feels luxurious and appropriate for what’s inside.

Final thoughts:

Retrospect is a compelling and quietly confident fragrance. It doesn’t rely on volume or sweetness to make its mark and instead, it draws you in with its composure and its subtle sensuality. It feels like a lovely memory. It’s warm, feminine, familiar yet still modern. For lovers of iris, powdery musks, and fragrances that sit close to the skin, this is a worthy addition to the collection.

Where to buy it

MERIT Beauty Retrospect L’Extrait de Parfum is £79 for 30ml and £30 for 9.5ml, available now via the links below:

Multimasking – Featuring Plant apothecary and Elde

by Lina Clémence May 30, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

The festive season, wonderful as it is, can really take a toll on your skin. As someone who doesn’t usually drink, that prosecco on Christmas day has been awful for my skin. Dry flaky patches and a little bit dull looking, not a great look.
When it comes to skincare one of the best quick fixes available is a facemask. The beauty of facemasks is that they can be tailored to what your skin needs at the time. I sometimes like to do a couple of different masks in one day, or target different areas of the skin with different formulas.

Today I have two facemasks to show you that have been getting a lot of use and that are perfect for a quick pick me up:

Elde Enzyme Treatment – This treatment uses fruit enzymes to gently buff the skin making it brighter and softer in a single application. On the skin it has a similar effect to the Oskia Renaissance mask*, although admittedly the Oskia definitely has the edge on Elde in terms of how pleasurable it is to use. I find Elde products very effective, but very functional in their packaging and feel of the products, this Scandinavian brand is fragrance free and good for sensitive skin. The mask also contains salicylic acid to help with breakouts and allantoin to soothe the skin, making it a really good all round treatment. You have to massage the formula in to the face to activate the ingredients and I like to leave on for around ten minutes, making it a good one for when you are short on time.

Plant apothecary Matcha antioxidant mask* – Such a wonderful, soothing and balancing mask. Perfect for skin that is a bit out of sorts. The base of White Kaolin makes it perfect for even sensitive skin types, I have talked before about my preference for white or pink clay for my skin type as others such as Bentonite can be far too harsh. It also contains matcha powder, which gives it a gorgeous green colour and is packed full of antioxidants.

You can add a variety of hydrosols or face oils to this mix, as it contains three simple but effective ingredients clay, matcha and chamomile it lends itself well to customisation. As it is a powder mask, you simply mix up each batch fresh and use immediately.

What facemasks are you using to rescue your skin this festive season?

Get Ready With Me (Again) – A Full Makeup Tutorial! – All Things Aesthetic

by Lina Clémence May 29, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Hi everyone, and welcome to this week’s blog! And what a rubbish week we are having with the weather, although I’m not sure what I prefer; is it better for the weather to be bad when we are stuck indoors anyway, or is the sunshine uplifting in difficult times? I think my mixed views display how neither situation is exactly ideal, however there are things we can do to try and make how we are feeling slightly better. At the moment, I am loving having a daily pamper, reading more books, watching rubbish on Netflix, going on walks, and doing home workouts. I’ve also decided to do my makeup a couple of times a week to keep me feeling human, which you will know if you read my post a couple of weeks ago on my BeautyBay haul! I’ve not actually done a full makeup tutorial for you guys since December though (check it out here), and some products I use have changed since then, so why not do a big makeup post?! Here is a nice little before picture if you guys need a laugh (I know I do)!

I’ve just noticed I am so pale I would probably disappear into my wall if it was white…

Aaaaand here is a meme to summarise how I am feeling about the above picture…

Wow, I also LOVE the caption of this pin haha! Well, at least I am funny sometimes I hope…Anyway, time to stop rambling. Here’s the tutorial!

Step 1 – Prime

So this is a pretty easy step, although for some reason I didn’t actually take a before and after picture. Here is the order in which I apply the products:
1) Dr Everyouth Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid Day Moisturiser – £13.99 on gogroupie.
2) The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone Primer – £3.95 from BeautyBay.
3) RCMA No-Color Powder – £11.75 from BeautyBay.
4) Morphe Continuous Setting Mist – £16 from Cult Beauty.

So, I am absolutely IN LOVE with this prime routine. I’ve always moisturised and then applied primer, but I would highly recommend setting your primer with a translucent powder and setting spray – you will notice a huge difference when it comes to the durability of your makeup and it goes on soooo much better.

Step 2 – Brows

The products used here are my all time faves:
1) Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in shade Soft Brown – £19 from Cult Beauty.
2) ZOEVA Graphic Brow Fix in shade Ammos – £9 from Beauty Bay.
3) Morphe Liquid Full Coverage Concealer in shade C1.35 – £10 from Cult Beauty

  • STEP 1 – Use a flat angled brush to apply the dipbrow pomade.
  • STEP 2 – Brush on the brow gel in fine strokes.
  • STEP 3 – Apply concealer around the brow and brush down onto the lid to act as a primer.

As my hair is blonde (despite the awful roots I have right now due to being unable to visit a hairdressers) I don’t go too dark with my brows. However, more shades are available in the products I recommend depending on what kind of colour you go for. While £19 is a bit expensive for a brow gel (I may have cried at the time of purchasing), it has lasted for 2 years and I am still no where close to finishing so I think we can view this as an investment.

Step 3 – Eyes

Right, I had to improvise pretty hard here as I don’t have a lot of makeup with me. As mentioned above, I used concealer to prime my lids, and then I used a bronzer and highlighter to create a natural bronze look which I love for the daytime. Here are the products:
1) Doll Beauty Gimme Sun Matte Bronzer in shade Medium – £15 from BeautyBay.
2) MUA Undress Your Skin Highlighter in shade Golden Scintillation – £2.99 from Luxplus.
3) Unicorn Cosmetics Lashes in style Peachy Pie – £10 from BeautyBay.

  • STEP 1 – Use a fluffy brush to buff the bronzer across your lid.
  • STEP 3 – Gently press the highlighter into the mid-to-corner of the lid.
  • STEP 4 – Once the lash glue is tacky, apply and hold for 20 seconds to ensure it stays on.

Now, this is definitely not the most dramatic eyeshadow look I’ve done but this is my go to for a more natural, glowy, daytime look, and I often use highlighters and bronzers as eyeshadows too which makes them an even better investment. While the lashes are £10, they are reusable which means that these are also an investment and they work out cheaper than less expensive lash brands as they last longer.

Step 4 – Base

Here we have two of my favourite ever makeup products for base makeup, and I would highly recommend you purchase ASAP! I’ve tried a lot of brands, but I’ve never found a foundation or concealer as enduring as these two. The products are:
1) EX1 Cosmetics Invisiwear Liquid Foundation in shade 3.5 – £12.50 from BeautyBay.
2) Maybelline Instant Anti-Age Multi-Use Concealer in shade Neutraliser – £8.99 from Superdrug.

  • STEP 1 – Apply the foundation using a flat topped foundation brush (I would say BH Cosmetics are the best).
  • STEP 2 – Apply concealer under the eyes, the forehead, the nose and chin.
  • STEP 3 – Use a small contour brush to blend.

These are really great products which are priced well too! My foundation is a little too dark for me right now though, but that’s purely because I am not fake tanning at the moment! If you want to find the perfect shade in the foundation/concealer, take a look on Findation to get your match based on the shades you use in your current products.

Step 5 – Contour

Time to sculpt my face into something slightly more appealing. Some of the products here can definitely be replaced with cheaper alternatives, but again, I’m limited with the products I have to hand. Products used here are:
1) Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder – £32 from Look Fantastic. A cheaper alternative which is *almost* as good is Morphe’s Bake and Set Powder in shade Banana for £12 from Cult Beauty.
2) EX1 Invisiwear Compact Powder in shade 11 – £11.50 from BeautyBay.
3) Mac Studiofix Powder Plus Foundation in shade C35 – £27 from MAC. However, you can get much cheaper pressed powders which do the job – EX1 do many shades on BeautyBay, and you can buy the Revolution Pressed Powder for £2 from Superdrug.

  • STEP 1 – Use a beauty blender to apply the baking powder under the eyes, the nose, forehead and cheeks.
  • STEP 2 – Use a sculpting brush to apply bronzer to the cheeks, sides of the nose (can use a finer brush for that step) and forehead.
  • STEP 3 – Gently press a flat foundation brush into pressed powder and dust off the translucent powder.

As you can see, I am starting to look slightly more human now! Contouring can be quite tricky, so I am fairly basic with my method so as not to overdo it. That being said, I’m happy with the result!

Step 6 – Highlight

As you can see, I sat on this palette and smashed the mirror…

This product is my new favourite highlighter! The BeautyBay Brilliance Bouncy Beam palette is £12 from BeautyBay. I used ‘Radiant’ for contouring the corners of my cheeks, ‘Strobe’ for the corner of my eyes and under my brows and a mix of ‘Charmed’ and ‘Shine Bright’ for contouring my nose, cheekbones and upper lip. Here’s the result! I apply setting spray to my brush before application for the best results.

Step 7 – Lips

Right, I am sure if you’re a regular here you will know that I just ADORE a nude lip! I know I need to branch out, and I will try to do so, but as this is a daytime look I had to go for a natural nude colour. The products used were:
1) Milani Colour Statement Lipliner in shade Nude – £6.50 from BeautyBay.
2) Doll Beauty Lipstick in shade Golden Girl – £13 from BeautyBay.
3) Doll Beauty Lipgloss in shade #Gobby – £13 from BeautyBay.

  • STEP 1 – Apply the lipliner around the lip and blend inwards towards the center of the lip.
  • STEP 2 – Apply the lipstick and blot with tissue.
  • STEP 3 – Run a thin layer of lipgloss across the top.

I absolutely love these colours together as they create a really cute pinky nude that’s both glossy and natural! The lipstick is also nice and creamy which I like, as matte lipsticks can really dry my lips out. The durability of the lipliner is fabulous too, and I love the pinker tone of the gloss – the perfect nude!

Now to set again with setting spray and I am FINISHED! Here is the end result!

  • BEFORE
  • AFTER
I am pretty impressed with this glow up!

Doing my makeup, taking some selfies and going on nice long walk really calmed me down the other day when I was having a bit of a meltdown, and I would strongly advise you all to find something which has the same effect as it genuinely works. Here are some cute pictures I took on my walk…

PHEW – that’s the longest post I’ve done in a while, but I really enjoyed it and I hope some of like the products I have recommended. In the meantime, remember to contact me and/or leave a comment with any anxieties/recommendations or even if you just fancy a chat – my ears are open. Wishing you all a wonderful week!

Stay safe xxxx
