Dior · Rouge Blush Colour & Glow

by Lina Clémence June 20, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Dior recently launched Rouge Blush Colour & Glow available in contour and highlighter duos, as well as blush and highlighter duos — with both having been designed to function as multi-use face palettes. In other words, makeup that’s gorgeous AND versatile. I’m in.

Rouge Blush Contour & Glow (CAN $67.00/each) | Housed in a slim navy compact case with a full sized mirror on the inner lid, there is a contour shade on one side and a coordinating highlighter beside it. The surface of the powder displays the brand’s iconic cannage (caning) pattern, as well as the CD initials in raised lettering. The formula is infused with a gel that helps in providing a long-lasting and hydrating feel, while the texture feels super silky and blends effortlessly along the skin. The finish of the contour shade is said to be matte, but I find it imparts a faint sheen — a plus, as that keeps the colour from looking flat and one-dimensional. Pigmentation on the contour powder leans on the lighter side, which is fine by me, as this enables you to have more control over application. The highlighter shades are absolutely stunning, buttery smooth and bearing a complex shimmer. Diorissimo is the more neutral of the two and the one best suited to fair – light medium complexions, while Diorama is warmer leaning and while more suitable for medium and deeper skin tones, those with lighter complexions can probably make it work provided a light hand is used. I’ve been testing these out in a variety of ways, and apart from how lovely they look on the skin, they also look amazing as eyeshadow.

100 Diorissimo – pale camel contour paired with a champagne highlighter

200 Diorama – milk chocolate contour paired with a soft gold highlighter

Rouge Blush Blush & Glow (CAN $67.00) | There are 4 blush/highlighter shades to choose from and while that sounds like a small number, the available colour harmonies have a lot of thought behind them, which means that there’s actually a shade to suit basically every skin tone. As with the Contour & Glow duos, the formula is similarly gel infused and has an ultra-fine silky texture. The pigmentation on the blush is buildable and leaves behind a beautiful sheen, while the highlighter has the most stunning complex shimmer. While these have all been designed for the face, I can also see these working as eyeshadow and even mixed for unique new colours. In testing, I actually have worn this blush along the lid — sometimes paired with one of the contour shades, other times solo — and I absolutely love how it marries so beautifully with the blush placement.

I’m a huge fan of makeup that can serve a variety of needs, and both the Contour & Glow as well as the Blush & Glow definitely deliver. You can use them in the traditional sense; blush for cheeks, highlighter on high points, and contour for definition, but by thinking out of the box you can also wear them as eyeshadows or even bronzer — let your imagination rule. This versatility means that they are also great for travelling with; less makeup to pack!

Available at Dior counters and online

The Real Silk Press Guide: For Girls Who Want Sleek Hair Without Losing Their Curls

by Lina Clémence June 19, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

The Real Silk Press Guide: For Girls Who Want Sleek Hair Without Losing Their Curls

Alright, so let’s talk silk presses. Because if you’ve ever done one, you know there’s a fine line between silky smooth and fried-to-the-point-of-no-return. I love a good press, don’t get me wrong. That first-day bounce? That shine?? Ugh. Nothing hits like it. But let’s be honest—if you’re not doing it right, your curls might not bounce back. And then my be wondering why your twist out is not acting right.

So I put this guide together for anybody who wants their silk press to actually last without wrecking their hair. Especially if you’re tired of blogs giving you the same recycled advice with no nuance. We’re getting into all the stuff they usually skip.

What Even Is a Silk Press?

If you’ve ever used a flat iron and thought, “Oh, this is a silk press,”—girl, no. It’s not. A silk press is more than just straightening your hair. It’s a technique. It’s product. It’s prep. It’s tension. And honestly, it’s kind of an art form. The goal? Make your natural hair look like you got a relaxer… without actually relaxing it.

And when it’s done right? It moves. It shines. It gives that body and shine you always wanted

Your Hair Type Matters—Like, a Lot

This is the part most people skip over. You can’t give the same silk press advice to a 3A curl pattern that you give to 4C hair. It’s not the same at all.

Here’s the deal:
  • 3A–3C? You’ll probably need way less heat. Your hair might silk out fast but watch for limpness or frizz if you go too hot.
  • 4A–4C? You need real prep. I’m talking deep moisture, protein balance, and a blow-dry that stretches the hair properly without frying it. If you skip the prep, you’ll be looking in the mirror wondering why it came out puffy.

Also, porosity matters too. I know that’s the nerdy part of hair care, but if your hair sucks up water like a sponge (hi, high porosity), you need products that seal that moisture in or your press won’t last. Period.

🧴 Scalp Care Deserves a Whole Section

Everyone talks about silk pressing the hair, but what about the scalp? Just because you straightened your hair doesn’t mean you should ignore your roots.

I like to massage a little lightweight oil or use a scalp mist that doesn’t make my hair revert. Especially around the edges and crown, where my scalp gets dry faster. If your head’s itchy after a silk press, that’s your sign. Show your scalp some love!

Preparation = EVERYTHING

I used to think silk pressing was about having a good flat iron. Nope. It starts way before that. Like… before you even blow dry.

Here’s my prep:
  • Clarify your hair. Get rid of buildup or the flat iron will just be cooking product into your strands.
  • Deep condition like your life depends on it. You want that moisture locked in.
  • Use a heat protectant that actually works (I’m not naming names but some of these brands are just scented water).
  • Blow dry with tension—gently. Stretch the hair without burning it. I use a comb attachment but a paddle brush or round boars brush works too.

And please… make sure your tools are clean. That flat iron from 2024 with the gunk on the plates? Toss it.

Products I Trust (And Why)

I’ve tried everything from drugstore to salon-level and let me tell you: sometimes the $8 serum slaps just as hard as the $30 one. It’s about ingredients and how your hair responds.

A few I love:
  • Heat Protectant: CHI 44 Iron Guard or Mielle’s heat serum
  • Smoothing Serum: Design Essentials Silk Essentials (smells amazing, too)
  • Anti-Humidity Spray: ORS or even a light mist of Sebastian Shaper if you’re fancy
  • Finishing Oil: Vegamour weightless repair hair oil

And honestly? Sometimes I just go to YouTube and look up what hairstylists are using right now. They know what’s up.

How to Make It Last Longer Than a Day

Here’s where it all falls apart for most of us: the maintenance.

Nighttime is key. Wrap it, pin curl it, pineapple it—whatever works for your hair texture. But don’t just sleep on it and expect it to look fresh in the morning. You will wake up lookin’ like humidity hugged you all night.

I personally:
  • Wrap with a satin scarf
  • Sleep on a silk pillowcase as backup
  • Use dry shampoo at the roots after day 3
  • And I don’t keep running my fingers through it (I know it’s tempting, but don’t do it)

🌀 Getting Your Curls Back Without Tears

Let’s say your silk press is done. It was cute. You got your selfies. Now you wanna go back to your curls. Please don’t just wet your hair and hope for the best.

Do a gentle cleanse and follow up with a protein + moisture treatment. If your curls look limp or weird… that might be a little heat damage. I’ve had it happen. It’s not the end of the world. Trim what needs trimming, deep condition like crazy, and give your curls time to bounce back. No panic.

And also? Your hair is still beautiful, even if that one curl won’t coil up the same anymore. Don’t beat yourself up.

Keep Your Hair Thriving Between Presses

Don’t press too often. I personally aim for once every 6–8 weeks if my hair feels healthy. Some stylists will say 3–4 times a year, and that’s probably better long-term. In between, I live in twist-outs, wash & gos, or just a cute puff with my edges laid.

I also do regular trims, deep treatments, and no heat unless I absolutely have to. My motto? Just because it’s straight doesn’t mean it’s healthy.

🌍 The Part Nobody Talks About: Culture, Identity, and Hair Choices

Let’s be real. Silk presses aren’t just about looks. For a lot of us, it’s about versatility. About showing that our hair can do both. But sometimes people act like wearing your hair straight means you’re trying to be more “acceptable” or not embracing your natural texture. And… no. It’s not that deep. Or sometimes it is. But only you get to define that for yourself.

Silk presses are a choice. And choosing to style your hair one way doesn’t cancel your love for the way it grows out of your head. Period.

❓ Random Silk Press Questions You Might Be Too Shy to Ask

  • Can I silk press dirty hair? Clean hair only.
  • Why is my silk press frizzy already? Could be humidity or poor prep.
  • Is it better to go to a pro? For your first time, absolutely. You’ll learn so much.
  • Do I need special tools? Kinda. A good flat iron makes a huge difference.

Final Thought

Look. I love a silk press. I love how it feels. I love the way it moves when the wind hits just right. But I love my actual hair even more. So if I’m gonna press it, I’m gonna do it right. No shortcuts. No regrets.

What’s your silk press secret weapon? Or horror story? Drop it in the comments.

Treating My Keratosis Pilaris: My Exfoliating Body Routine

by Lina Clémence June 18, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Keratosis pilaris is a skin condition I have dealt with on and off over the last few years, and unfortunately, the time has come (yet) again. The good news is that I have narrowed down a routine that has been helping me clear it over the last few weeks. I wanted to share what I’ve been doing and using to help clear it up in hopes that it helps anyone looking for an effective solution to KP.

You may be wondering, what exactly is Keratosis Pilaris?

Keratosis pilaris (also referred to as “chicken skin”) is a common, harmless skin condition that causes tiny, rough bumps, often on the arms and legs. It happens when keratin, a protein that protects the skin, builds up and blocks hair follicles. It’s more noticeable in dry weather and can be managed with moisturizing and gentle exfoliation. Skin also tends to feel rough and is prone to redness.

Having just come out of the colder months, mixed with multiple laser hair removal sessions over the last year, my skin has taken a bit of a beating. I vowed to get to the bottom of it now that summer is approaching by being more diligent with my body care routine. The best part? It is budget-friendly!

Here are the steps I’ve been taking to bring my skin back to a smooth and healthy state:

Tree Hut Shea Sugar Scrub
First, I’ve been alternating between physical and chemical exfoliants in the shower. I’m currently using up the ones I have, including the Tree Hut Shea Sugar Scrub and the Naturium Smoother Glycolic Acid Exfoliating Body Wash. The mechanical action of the sugar scrub helps slough off dead skin cells and polishes the skin underneath. Since it is rougher on the skin, I used this twice a week. On the other days, I prefer the Exfoliating Body Wash, and the Naturium one is a personal favourite with 5% glycolic acid. I also like that it is gentle on the skin and fragrance-free.

Since my skin has been extra stubborn this time, I also layer more exfoliating products once I’ve patted my skin dry out of the shower. I’ve been alternating between a few different products with different types and concentrations of acids:

Skin Proud Detox Daily Exfoliating Tonic
I started with the Skin Proud Detox Daily Exfoliating Tonic* to get my skin accustomed to daily exfoliation. This product contains 5% glycolic acid and 5% lactic acid. Lactic acid is gentler and better for dry or sensitive skin, while glycolic acid can be stronger and penetrate deeper. Having both together in the same formula has worked well for my skin for the first couple of weeks.
Pixi Glow Tonic Exfoliating and Brightening Toner
Another option that works well for beginning exfoliation without over-irritating the skin is the Pixi Glow Tonic Exfoliating and Brightening Toner*. I had been using it for years on my face, and when I was looking through my collection, it clicked: why not try it on my KP-prone areas? I’ve been applying it directly to my skin and letting it soak in before moving on to the next step.
Prequel Multi-Acid Milk Peel AHA Exfoliating Solution
For a more heavy-duty option, I’ve been reaching for the Prequel Multi-Acid Milk Peel AHA Exfoliating Solution, which contains 15% glycolic, phytic, malic, mandelic and lactic acids with enzymes to help boost skin renewal. This one has been the most effective one for me, but I definitely had to build my way up for my skin to tolerate it, as it is a much stronger concentration. I like how user-friendly it is with the bottle that gets the product out quickly in just a few shakes.
Alpha Skincare Renewal Body Lotion

To lock in the above products, I’ve been using the Alpha Skincare Renewal Body Lotion* with 12% glycolic acid. Despite its higher AHA content, my skin tolerates it quite well. It is a slightly thicker lotion, however, it is easy to spread in a few strokes. I also like how soft it leaves my skin and how it improves its texture, and that it is fragrance-free.

Using a combination of the above products for the past month, my skin is finally on the road to recovery! I’m so happy to have found these to help speed up the healing of my textured skin.

Do you deal with keratosis pilaris? If so, which products have you had success with?

I apply this after my vit c serums as my second step in the morning – I feel absolutely protected.

Never forget application on your ears, neck and hairline.

My Thoughts

Just like Anthelios for the face (spf 50) it’s perfect.

The consistency is fluid and just liquidy (not a word) enough for smooth application.  It’s so light and feels really great on the skin of my body. Don’t forget the top of your hands and feet.

Love the packaging (eco-tube) – so unique.  Fast absorption, great moisture and protection – There is nothing negative (double negative) to say!

These three products are great for EVERY SINGLE DAY.

As we approach Summer here In Canada please do not forget your spf.

Make it part of your morning routine and don’t forget to re-apply as needed!

See You soon!

My Makeup Issues: March/April 2025 Empties

by Lina Clémence June 15, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Welcome to another empties post with mini reiews! I didn’t have a ton of empties in March so I lumped them together with April’s. Let’s dive in!

Cerave Hydrating Cream-to-Foam Cleanser (Removes Makeup) – This was by far one of my best finds back in 2023. The fact that it is easy to get (any drug store) and is reasonably priced is fantastic. This cleanser is very hydrating, gentle, does not play with my skin barrier and removes my makeup including eye makeup! Makes my skin so clean! I tend to use this only at night but I think you could use it in the morning too if you want. Already repurchased. This is easily in my Top 5 cleansers.

Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm in Vanilla Beige and Iced Coffee – I got a mini set of 4 of these last Fall during the Sephora sale. I bought them as I wanted to try a variety of scents and colours. The Iced Coffee one grew on me quickly and I would repurchase that scent no problem. The Vanilla Beige was ok. I really like Summer Fridays lip butter balms and although I wished they lasted longer on the lips, I think they are one of the best lip balms you can get on the market. I have already repurchased a regular sized tube in Birthday Cake and will be reviewing that one for you shortly.

The Inkey List Supersolutions 10% Azelaic Acid Serum –
This product has been a lifesaver for my rosacea. I have already repurchased. Can’t live without it now. This is a
must have for anyone with rosacea and the beauty is you can layer it with other
serums. I highly recommend using it twice a day for full effectiveness. I am not sure how many of these I have gone through now but I will be buying it likely forever.

Sol de Janeiro Rio Deo Refill in Brazilian Jasmine & Pink Dragonfruit – I quite like
this deodorant and have gone through a few of these already. I am starting to get confused with all of the scents. I think I like the original one the best. The refills never seem to sit right in the containers and the temporary lids are awful. All that being said, I do like this product and have repurchased. I would’nt say it is workout appropriate, you would need something stronger but
it’s great for day to day.

AOA Studio Super Soft PawPaw Wonder Blender – I don’t care what anyone says, these sponges are far inferior to the Beautyblender. I don’t find these to be as porous as the Beautyblender and therefore product tends to sit on top of the sponge and slide around more. You don’t get as good of a blend. Also, I find these dry weird and can get moldy after a bit which I never had happen with the Beautyblender. Since I bought a bag of 6 I will use them up but then it’s back to spending good money on Beautyblenders again and I am ok with that.

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in Berry – I really enjoy a lot of these Laneige Lip Sleeping Masks and I have to say that the Berry scent is by far the best scent from their regular line. In general, I tend to prefer some of their limited edition scents. Already repurchased in a few other scents.

Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion – I bought this a long time ago online from the U.S. At the time, I couldn’t find it here in Canada. I was starting to get some dry patches on my hands in winter and this was recommended by a beauty influencer that I follow. It did seem to work well and I think I had two bottles of them and this was the second one. First one is long finished. I hadn’t used it in awhile. I noticed it was nearly empty so I decided recently to use it up. If this was readily available, I might repurchase, but I don’t think it is. I also think other creams have come onto the market in recent years that are better so I would likely buy those first.

Aveeno
Restorative Skin Therapy Repairing Cream
– This was one of the best Aveeno
lotions that I have tried and let me tell you, they are not all created equal. I
really liked this cream and I will likely repurchase.

Caudalie
Hand & Nail Repairing Cream in The des Vignes (The Vines?)
– I got a set of
3 of these in a Holiday Set a year and a half ago. I have used up 2 of them so
far and am on my 3rd and final one. I really liked this hand cream
and I will be repurchasing once I have used up the last one I have. It’s great
to throw into your purse and I do find that it moisturizes both my nails and my
hands well.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Concentrate Matrix – First thing I have to mention is that the wand inside broke off very quickly and I had to use a Q-tip to get the product out. That was disappointing. This s a sample size though so the packaging was not going to be stellar. I think the product was nice enough. It was soothing on the eyes and I think I may have looked a bit more refreshed when I woke up after wearing it overnight. I didn’t really notice it doing anything for my dark circles in general though. It is an expensive product so not sure I will purchase it in the future, but I won’t rule it out.

Makeup by Mario Moistureglow Plumping Lip Serum in Rosewood Glow – I got this as a Sephora birthday gift along with a lip liner from the same brand. I liked the colour, but I think it is more of a autumn shade so I wouldn’t rush to wear it in spring or summer. Even though this is a minty plumping product and not terribly tingly, I really detest plumpers and as a general rule, will not buy them. I don’t need them and I don’t care for the sensation. It was a decent product, but since it is a plumper, I will not buy it. The packing was awful and the inner tube would not retract if you turned it up too high. Since this was sample, I don’t know if the regular sized tube would be the same.

Biossance Squalane + Marine Algae Eye Cream x2 – I thought I only had 1 of these sample jars, but somehow I had two and was using them simultaneously. Part of my confusion was that I have the same sized jar by the same company with face cream in it. Anyway, I managed to finish both of the eye creams recently. I didn’t find it was any better than any of the other eye creams I have used and it did didley squat for my dark circles. Some days, I even found it burned a little so I had to be careful to not place it too high up under my eye. Would not repurchase, but I love the glass jar and will be reusing it for travel with another product in it.

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream– This is my ride or die. I’ve spoken about this at length so will spare you all. Already repurchased.

I already have my May empties piling up so should be back soon with more mini reviews.

Your Holiday Headquarters: Shoppers Drug Mart 2021

by Lina Clémence June 14, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

December has always been one of the busiest times of the year for my family. From birthdays to Holiday gatherings, we’re always on the go and balancing multiple priorities. In the blink of an eye, the month comes and goes and the New Year becomes our new norm. So, it’s not surprising that my Holiday shopping doesn’t even start until the tree is up. Even then, it’s usually a three week mad scramble leading up to Christmas.

Every year, my shopping starts with a trip to Shoppers Drug Mart. I’ve picked up fragrances, video games, gift cards and so much more for family and friends while collecting PC Optimum points. Most locations also have an incredible Beauty Boutique where you can stock up on everything you need to look fierce and fabulous for the Holidays. Check out my 2020 gift guide here in case you missed it and keep reading for some amazing gift ideas for every budget and anyone on your Holiday list.

For the makeup enthusiast on your list, the limited edition QUO Brush Sets are always a great idea. The brushes are amazing quality and the kits come in different price points. This year, the “All the Glam” Brush Set really caught my eye and is already wrapped and sitting under my tree for that special someone. It’s a great set that includes six synthetic brushes and a portable tin for only $20-25.

Another great gift find this year was the Head to Toe Glow Masking Kit ($18) by Life Brand. The mask collection is formulated to provide ultimate indulgence and is great for men and women of any age! It includes seven revitalizing mask treatments that leave skin feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and restored while providing a brighter, more glowing complexion. This would make such a great unisex Secret Santa gift!

I love recommending the Fragrance Discovery Collection & Certificate that Shoppers Drug Mart launches every year because it allows you to try multiple mini-sized fragrances, and use the certificate included to cash in for a full size of your favourite scent. If you know your loved ones’ signature scent or what they’re hoping to see under the tree though, Shoppers has a wide assortment of scent options at every price point. Pictured below is Very Good Girl by Carolina Herrera ($168), a popular EDP for 2021 but if my family is reading this Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium is my all-time favourite 😉

From chocolate to lip balm, costume jewelry and even toiletries, the stocking stuffer selection at Shoppers Drug Mart is endless. Just get your loved ones what they use and love everyday! I’ve been loving the Remedy Masks ($34) by Pixi Beauty. These masks have single handedly revitalized and helped to calm my winter parched skin and deserve a special shout out because I don’t see them getting enough hype online. Available in three different varieties (Rose, Milky & Vitamin C), each generously sized tub comes with its own spoon-style spatula and is an absolute treat for anyone looking to kick start their skincare routine in the New Year.

Shoppers Drug Mart also has wonderful gadgets to give and get! Things like the Nintendo Switch, Philips Sonicare One Electric Toothbrush, Beats Wireless Headphones and the Double Barrel Total Body Massager ($140) pictured below.

Happy Shopping & Happy Holidays!

Mom Loves Makeup: Yehwadam Revitalizing Moisture

by Lina Clémence June 13, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

I’ve spent the majority of my summer avoiding makeup. It’s been too hot, too humid and I just haven’t felt inspired to wear makeup that will quite literally melt off of my face. In the absence of makeup, skincare has become my best friend. I’ve always been into skincare, but I’ve never become obsessed with it. Until now. When I’m not out and about with the kids, I’m researching new ways to better my skin. In my quest to find the latest and greatest, I stumbled upon premium skincare brand Yehwadam.

The people at The Faceshop were kind enough to gift me the brand new Yehwadam sub-line; Yehwadam Revitalizing Moisture. This new line is formulated for those with combination to oily skin and promises intense moisture without a sticky, heavy or greasy feel. Although my skin type is typically dehydrated and dry, the summer has my skin all f’d up. I’m currently somewhere between normal/dehydrated/combo. The joy!

“Yehwadam is an anti-aging skincare line that brings traditional Korean herbs, ginseng and flowers into modern anti-aging. Yehwadam products are made with natural Korean ingredients processed by traditional methods passed down from one generation to another.”

Yehwadam Revitalizing Moisture Fluid ($40, 150 ml) is a water based product that combines toner and lotion into a single step. It’s formulated with Fresh Water Flower which contains 5 types of traditional herbal ingredients including Korean Ginsing, Safflower and Goji Berries.

I’m all about simplifying my routine, so I’m happy that this product can eliminate a step for me. I apply it after my serum and I find it absorbs very quickly – within a minute or so. It has a light scent and a non-sticky texture. What I like most about this lotion is that it feels very hydrating but without any sort of residual greasiness, heaviness or stickiness. My skin feels quenched and what I can only assume one would call ‘normal’. I really feel like this is the perfect summer moisturizer for me. I’m not so sure it will cut it come fall, but for now it works amazingly well. If you have combo or oily skin, you will love this! Oh, and it comes with a pump and the bottle is huge. The value of this product is great – you get much more product, for less money than most.

Yehwadam Revitalizing Moisturizing Cream ($55, 50 ml) is a lightweight gel-cream that claims to hydrate the skin without leaving it sticky. It’s formulated with oriental herbal ingredients grown in Korea. Peony, Lotus, Safflower, Chrysanthemum, Honeysuckle, Ginsing and Goji Berry to name a few!

Yehwadam Revitalizing Moisturizing Cream is light but more substantial than their Moisture Fluid. It applies like a gel but feels hydrating like a cream. I found it to absorb a lot slower and not entirely. I can still feel it on my face hours after applying it and it does feel slightly tacky for the first little while. I don’t love it for summer days, unless I’ve been in the pool and my skin is parched, then it’s great! I’m putting this one on the back burner for now, hoping to revisit it once the temperature starts to drop.

Yehwadam Revitalizing Moisturizing Sleeping Pack ($35, 100 ml) restores moisture to skin overnight leaving it looking refreshed the next morning. It contains the same ingredients as the other two products in this range; Peony, Lotus, Safflower, Chrysanthemum, Honeysuckle, Ginsing and Goji Berry.

I really, really like this sleeping pack. I think I may even like this as much as Shiseido’s Ibuki Sleeping Mask. It goes on slightly sticky (like virtually all sleeping masks/packs) but unlike a lot of others, that feeling goes away fast. It feels crazy hydrating, I don’t stick to my pillow and I wake up looking amazing. Can’t beat the price either, it’s a total win-win!

This was my first venture into Yehwadam and I’m very happy so far. Two out of the three products I would purchase with my own money (Revitalizing Moisture Fluid & Revitalizing Moisturizing Sleeping Pack) and I’m certainly interested in trying more from the brand. If you’ve used any products from Yehwadam, I would love to hear your thoughts on them!
Till next time beauties ✌

Review: Laneige HydroGel and Hydro Essence*

by Lina Clémence June 12, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

During the hotter months, I like to change up my skincare by going for lighter-weight products that are gel-like in consistency and cooling. Introducing the Water Bank Hydro Essence ($51 cad /70mL) that you use in conjunction with the hydro gel (below). This is targeted for those with dryness, dullness, oiliness and uneven texture. It is a very lightweight serum that quickly absorbs into the skin and helps boost hydration and prevent water loss. It contains their Green Mineral Water which is extracted from kale, watercress and beet which brings a refreshing texture and instantly absorbs into the skin. It also does not contain parabens and phthalates.
Next, we have the Water Bank Hydro Gel ($50 cad /50mL cad) a cooling, non-oily gel moisturizer that is packed with antioxidants and hyaluronic acid that helps to hydrate the skin and bring moisture back to it without leaving a heavy layer or feeling on the skin after. This is good for people with oily, combo or normal skin and helps to combat dullness and unevenness. It is also created without parabens and phthalates and contains the amazing Green Mineral Water as in the essence above.

A very important thing to note is that it is essential to keep the skin hydrated even when your skin is oily and sweating in the summer months. Do not make the same mistake as I did in my younger years by thinking that because my skin is so oily that I could refrain from applying moisturizer as it would regulate my oil control. That is a big no-no. In fact it does the opposite, stripping and depriving your skin of its required hydration and moisture would actually cause the skin to create even more oils to help regulate moisture and create that protection which is the opposite of what anyone really wants.

I have been a user of Laneige skincare items for years and continue to include them in my skincare routine! These are must-trys 🙂

Until next time, XO – M.
