Write an title about: A Tale of Two Panties: Bloomers and Underoutfit

rewrite this content and keep HTML tags as is:

Hello beautiful people. Today I’m bringing you a candid (and cheeky!) tale about two very different two panty shopping experiences: Bloomers and Underoutfit. Since my last set of surgeries, I’ve put on some weight and my body has changed shape. Nothing wrong with that, but my juicy, luscious booty now has a mind of its own and keeps trying to devour my underwear.

And listen, I love a good rebel moment, but going commando during a workout? Not for me.

So I went on a mission. I wanted to find comfy, boyshort panties that actually stay in place—and ended up testing Bloomers and Underoufit. Spoiler: I made a few mistakes I don’t want you to repeat.

Mistake #1: I Didn’t Read the Fine Print

In my excitement to try something new, I completely skipped checking the return and exchange policies for Bloomers and Underoutfit, a rookie move. Bloomers, in particular, has a policy that made me wish I’d been more careful. If you’re considering shopping with them, do yourself a favor: read the return rules first. Normally I’m meticulous about this stuff, but life has been chaos lately and I let it slide. Lesson learned.

Mistake #2: I Didn’t Consult the Lingerie Oracle

In Intimate Detail by Cora Harrington the Lingerie Addict
Book shown is In Intimate Detail by Cora Harrington.

Why I didn’t check The Lingerie Addict’s site first to see her reviews on Bloomers and Underoutfit, I’ll never know. She’s basically lingerie royalty. If anyone could’ve steered me toward the right fit, it’s Cora. Next time, I’ll be consulting her wisdom before hitting “add to cart.”

Bloomers Panties Experience Review

A Tale of Two Panties: Bloomers and Underoutfit - Bloomers Panties Underwear Review

I first discovered Bloomers, an intimates brand that prides itself on inclusivity, while searching for underwear that actually works with, not against, my body. What made me hit buy wasn’t just the pretty packaging or size range; it was this line from their site:

“The fact is that over the course of your life, your hormones go through different phases. These phases not only shape your reproductive health, but also your body shape and how you view your sexuality.”

That statement stopped me in my tracks. Finally, a brand that gets it. Our bodies shift through perimenopause, menopause, post-surgery, postpartum, and those changes deserve to be met with comfort, not compromise.

On top of that, I loved learning that Bloomers gives back by donating underwear to women in need through The Undies Project. That kind of mission-driven approach matters to me.

Bloomers Return Policy

As I mentioned earlier, I made the mistake of not reading the return policy before making my purchase. If you decide to shop with Bloomers, please learn from my experience. I personally find their return policy unfriendly to customers. The requirement to postmark your return within just seven days feels unreasonably short. Additionally, the 15% restocking fee applied when returning four or more items comes across as unnecessarily punitive.

The above photos are screenshots of Bloomers Refund and Exchange Policy on their website from May 2025.

The Order

I placed my order with  Bloomers on Sunday, May 4, and the brand shipped quickly. My package arrived by May 8, 2025, which I appreciated.

Sourpuss Leda Festival Studded Gothic Hip Bag on Cordelia Frost
Me wearing my Sourpuss Leda Festival Studded Gothic Hip Bag in New Zealand

Included with my order was a “free” black belt bag. I didn’t think much of it, since when I want to wear a black belt bag, I always reach for my beloved Sourpuss Leda Festival Studded Gothic Hip Bag. It’s a built to last hipbag that I’ve had for nearly a decade and it continues to be my go-to.

I decided to test out a pair of the Bloomers Pantyloon Slip Shorts. Unfortunately, my sensitive skin did not agree with their lace. After only a few hours of wear, I developed a rash between my thighs from the irritation.

To be fair, I don’t believe this would happen to everyone. I know my skin is particularly reactive, so I chalk this up to a personal sensitivity. I don’t blame Bloomers for the rash. What I do take issue with is their return policy, which I don’t feel is particularly kind to customers.

The Return

On Saturday May 10, I contacted  Bloomers to ask about returning the unopened items. I heard back from the brand on Monday May 12, which is very reasonable for a small company.

In their response, they initially offered a free exchange for their feather lace style instead. I declined and clarified that I preferred a return. The representative let me know that returns must be postmarked within seven days of the return request, meaning I needed to ship my items by May 17. It felt bad that because I contacted them on a Saturday with the return request, it had to be postmarked by Friday, when I didn’t even hear from the company until Monday. Unless I misunderstood their customer service on this point, but it didn’t seem likely, especially considering the follow up emails.

One of the colors I ordered, Dragon Fruit, was said to be limited edition and final sale. I was told that under normal circumstances it would not be eligible for return, but they would make a special exception for me. I appreciated the gesture, though I was a bit confused since the color was still listed on their website without any mention of being limited edition or final sale. That may have simply been a website oversight. However, when I went back to look at the site again, there is nothing to indicate in the product listing that Dragon Fruit is a limited edition shade, it just says it’s cougar lace. How is a customer supposed to know that is limited edition when the website doesn’t state it?

Because I hadn’t yet notified them that I’d mailed the return, I received a follow-up email on May 15 reminding me that I needed to send it out in order to receive my refund.

Bloomers provides a prepaid return label, but it comes at a cost. They deduct $7 from your refund—so returns aren’t free. Bloomers did give an option of mailing the product back without using their label, so you can potentially pay less than the $7 to ship it back.

The Third Mistake

I packed up the box with the Bloomers panties, believing I had included all the items I purchased along with everything else they had sent me.

On May 16, I dropped the package off at the UPS store and emailed Bloomers to let them know it was on the way. I also shared that I was disappointed the products didn’t work out for me.

At that point, I assumed the return process was complete and that the next message I’d receive would be confirmation of my refund.

Free Bag Issue

On May 19, Bloomers emailed me to let me know I needed to return the “free” black belt bag. I was genuinely confused. I had believed I’d sent everything back, including the “free” laundry bags and that belt bag. Unfortunately, I hadn’t realized I missed it.

Their message explained that my refund was on hold until they received the belt bag. They provided another $7 shipping label so I could send it back. Alternatively, they said I could be charged $13 for the “free” item I never asked for, never wanted, and had no option to exclude from my order in the first place.

To be clear, Bloomers was refusing to process my refund for the panties unless I returned this belt bag—an item I didn’t order and had no control over receiving. It wasn’t possible to remove it from my cart, and I had simply forgotten to include it when returning everything else.

I’m sure I’m not the only person who might overlook something like this, especially when it’s an unsolicited gift. So, I printed the second $7 shipping label, boxed up the belt bag, and sent it back. I was definitely frustrated to be paying shipping twice in order to complete a return that felt far more complicated and frustrating than it needed to be.

Final Thoughts of Bloomers

Based on my experience, I cannot recommend shopping with Bloomers.

While their products are visually appealing and their messaging is inclusive, the reality fell short for me. The materials did not agree with my sensitive skin, which I can understand may not be the case for everyone. What’s harder to overlook is the rigid and customer-unfriendly return policy.

Charging for return shipping is one thing, but holding a refund hostage over a so-called “free” item I never asked for, and had no option to decline, left a bad taste. The back-and-forth, the extra shipping costs, and the lack of flexibility made the process frustrating from start to finish.

At the time of writing, I still have not received my refund from Bloomers.

If you’re considering placing an order, I urge you to read all the fine print and be prepared for a return process that puts the burden squarely on the customer.

Edit: As of May 27, 2025, I’ve been notified to expect my refund no later than May 30. In the time it’s taken for Bloomers to refund me, I’ve been able to try out and return the Underoutfit brand, as well as try out and declare Spanx brand the winner for me. While I always prefer to prioritize featuring indie and boutique brands, sometimes they don’t work.

Underoutfit Experience Review

Underoutfit Panties Underwear Review

Underoutfit was founded by the behind-the-scenes experts who helped shape designs for major brands like Victoria’s Secret, Spanx, Nike, Maidenform, Triumph, and Lululemon. The company presents itself with a clear mission:

“To design bras that feel as good as they look, made with the knowledge and precision that only decades of experience can bring. No shortcuts, no compromises, and no middlemen telling us what women should want.”

I genuinely respect Underoutfit’s fashion pedigree and their commitment to creating comfortable, functional products. Their boyshort design looked exactly like the kind of underwear I’ve been searching for, something that actually stays put and offers full coverage. That combination of thoughtful design and experience is what convinced me to give them a try.

Underoutfit Return Policy

The images below are of the Underoutfit return policy as of May 20, 2025 from their website.

Underoutfit Underwear Returns and Exchanges Policy - Bloomers and Underoutfit

There’s a night and day difference to my eyes in the very consumer friendly Underoutfit returns and refunds policy.

The Order

I placed my order for the Underoutfit Smoothing at Waist Boyshorts on May 13, and the shipping was impressively fast, as my package arrived just three days later on May 16.

That same day, I received a welcome email from Underoutfit. One detail that stood out to me is that they assign each customer a dedicated support contact. Mine was Donna, who was available to answer any product questions or offer help. That personal touch really made the experience feel more thoughtful and human.

I ordered both a size small and a size medium since I was between sizes. While the small technically fit, the medium was noticeably more comfortable. And the best part? This style actually stays in place. No more battling my booty trying to eat my underwear. They’re comfortable, flattering, and do exactly what I need them to do. Or so I thought.

The Problem

While I was initially impressed with the fit and comfort of Underoutfit, I quickly noticed something important was missing. The underwear did not appear to have a 100% cotton gusset. I emailed Donna to ask for clarification, and she confirmed that the fabric was 65% nylon and 35% spandex, with a consistent texture throughout.

My heart sank.

For me, a 100% cotton gusset is absolutely essential. It plays a critical role in maintaining good hygiene and helps reduce the risk of issues such as yeast infections. Regardless of how well a pair of underwear fits, I cannot overlook this detail.

I replied and explained that the lack of a cotton gusset made the product unsuitable for me. The team responded with understanding and directed me to their returns portal. I completed the return process without any complications.

Easiest Return Ever

Using the Underoutfit returns portal was incredibly simple. I just entered my order number and zip code, answered a few quick questions, and I was done.

To my surprise, I received my refund the very same day.

I also received an email from Underoutfit that said:

“We have received your return request. You don’t need to return your item(s) to get your exchange or refund. We encourage you to donate your lightly used product or give it to a person in need. We’ll issue your refund, gift card, or exchange once we have processed your return.”

I was genuinely shocked, in the best way.

After the ongoing frustration with Bloomers, the experience with Underoutfit was a breath of fresh air. Their customer service was thoughtful, respectful, and efficient. I did not expect to be told to keep or donate the items, and I certainly did not expect such a fast refund. Most importantly, I felt respected as a customer.

While I was surprised not to have to return the underwear, I was also relieved. They resolved the issue quickly and without making me jump through hoops.

And just to be clear, because my order was under $85, they did not refund the shipping charge of $3.99. I had no problems with this shipping charge not being refunded because: a. it was quite reasonable and b. the brand made the process customer friendly.

Final Thoughts on Underoutfit

Underoutfit Boyshorts Panties Underwear Review - Bloomers and Underoutfit

Although I choose not to wear underwear without a 100% cotton gusset, I wholeheartedly recommend Underoutfit based on their outstanding customer service and hassle-free return process. My experience with the brand was smooth, respectful, and refreshingly customer-centered.

Because of that, I would absolutely consider purchasing other products from Underoutfit in the future. A company that treats its customers well is always worth keeping on your radar.

Bloomers and Underoutfit: A Customer Service Reality Check

After interacting with both Bloomers and Underoutfit via email, the contrast in customer experience could not have been more stark.

With Bloomers, the communication felt strained. While their tone was polite on the surface, there was an undercurrent of irritation whenever I brought up an issue. Their messages repeatedly emphasized that returns must be postmarked within seven days or no refund would be issued. That language, though likely intended to clarify policy, came across as rigid and vaguely threatening. It felt less like customer care and more like customer containment.

In sharp contrast, Underoutfit made me feel heard from the start. I was assigned a real person to help with questions, and every email I received felt warm, professional, and solution-focused. When I brought up my concerns about the gusset, they responded with empathy and provided a return option without fuss. I was surprised and impressed when they processed my refund the same day—without requiring the product to be returned. That kind of trust and customer-first attitude is rare, and it made a lasting positive impression.

Bloomers and Underoutfit truly gave me a night and day experience with their customer service. I vastly prefer one to the other based on my personal experiences.

Other Underwear Woes

For two years I had nothing but positive experiences with Feelingirl, but my luck ran out recently when I ordered more of their no underwire seamless everyday bras. My order from April 30 arrived May 5 and was missing one item. I let them know immediately. It’s now May 20 and I’m still missing the bra. How it takes them almost a month to correct a problem, I don’t know. Most of my orders of their products have been via Amazon, but I tried ordering directly from them and had this issue. I’ll stick to Amazon in the future or maybe find a different brand.

What’s Next: Spanx

Spanx SPANXshape™ ExtraOrdinary Boyshort

The next pair of panties I decided to try in my search for the perfect fit is the SPANX SPANXshape ExtraOrdinary Boyshort. While the product listing on their website does not mention a 100% cotton gusset, I reached out to their customer service team prior to purchase for clarification, as well as spent time reading their returns policy. Spanx confirmed that this style does, in fact, have a 100% cotton gusset.

I also suggested to Spanx to add this information to their product pages and FAQ section, since I initially searched both areas before resorting to email. Their response was thoughtful and professional:

“Your suggestion on listing this information more clearly on both product pages and our FAQ is incredibly valuable, and I’ll make sure it gets passed along for review.“

Visually, the Spanx SPANXshape ExtraOrdinary Boyshort looks very similar to the Underoutfit design, but with the key difference of including the gusset I require. If the fit lives up to my expectations, these could be the answer to my ongoing panty struggle.

Fingers crossed that Spanx solves my issues that Bloomers and Underoutfit were unable to.

Edit: Spanx is a winner for my booty! I’m happy that Spanx is having a sale right now because I bought some boyshorts for $11.20 USD a pair with their sale code STOCKUP30.

Bloomers and Underoutfit: Final Verdict

Bloomers and Underoutfit Review and Comparison

Bloomers and Underoutfit are two of the most recent intimates brands that I’ve purchased from that I found on my own, rather than asking a friend for a recommendation.

If you are looking for full-coverage, stay-put underwear and do not need a 100% cotton gusset, Underoutfit is absolutely worth trying. Their boyshort design didn’t bunch or get swallowed by my booty—and the customer service was exceptional.

On the other hand, while Bloomers markets itself as body-positive and inclusive, my experience did not reflect that mission. Between the irritating lace, the confusing return policy, and the insistence on sending back even a free item, I walked away frustrated and disappointed.

Sometimes the biggest difference between brands is not just the product, but how they treat you when things go wrong. Underoutfit handled it with grace. Bloomers did not. Between the two, Bloomers and Underoutfit, which have you tried? Which do you prefer? Have you tried Spanx?

Cool Sculpting Facial and Body Massage: Detox and Smooth with Selfkaire Kairetool

I absolutely love the Kairetool Did by Selfkaire! I am in the midst of learning about the effects of Energy Healing and the power of connecting with your energy flow and stimulating massage and activating pressure points and meridians in your body is a key part of this practice. The Kairetool is a highly effective tool for activating these key areas and increasing your energy flow and vitality through throughout your entire body! I am just loving this Kairetool for use on my face but also for use on my body as part of my Daily Energy Routine! 🙂

While I have never tried cool sculpting, this tool is said to have similar results and can be done at-home for a fraction of the cost!

What is the Kairetool Dia by Selfkaire:

Selfkaire has a few styles of tools available. They even have tools with crystals! I want to try a crystal one next!!! I love using crystals for healing!

For this review, I was able to try out the Kairetool Dia. It is beautiful! There is no question this is a high quality took. It comes beautifully boxed. It is weighty if feel and is very cool to the touch. The design of the tool makes it easy to hold and manipulate.

It is a surgical-grade steel at-home tool, which is dual-sided with acupressure pins to target deep tissue. It can also be flipped over to use like a traditional facial roller to pat in skincare on both the face and body!

Here’s more information from Selfkaire about the tool and what it can do:

Daily use can help:

  • Improve appearance of elasticity of the skin
  • Support circulation & lymphatic drainage
  • Ease muscle tension for face and body
  • Fully detox deep tissue (popularized juice cleanses can’t)

Flip over to crystal/rounded side to help:

  • Reduce appearance of puffiness & fine lines
  • Pat in skincare to enhance absorption

Tips to get the most out of your Kairetool:

Here are some great tips that I learned while using the Kairetool:

  • You can either use this directly on your bare skin or you can use over clothing.
  • For skincare, you can use it anytime in the day you feel like you need revitalization to a facial area or you can use after applying your skincare products to massage in products (like how you would use a stone roller tool).
  • For extra sensation and benefit, you can put in the fridge for a super cool feel to your Kairetool!
Overall, I absolutely love this Kairetool! Actually, I want to get another one (like a crystal one) as I would like to have them all over my house, in handbag, etc. That way, I will use it even more often! I feel like these massage points can be targeted throughout the day for maximum results for circulation, vitality, healing, and renewal of your skin and body!

Plus, Kairetool offers a 90-day satisfaction guarentee and a lifetime warranty. So, there really is no risk with trying this item out! It is expensive. However, you can tell by the feel and design of this product that it is a very high quality tool that should last indefinately! Right now, the crystal tools are 25% off for Mothers Day on the website! 🙂

Sydney Sweeney Is Selling You Her Bath Water Infused in a Bar of Soap

by Lina Clémence June 2, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Listen, if we can watch Barry Keoghan sipping Jacob Elordi’s bathwater (and other un-mentiomable bodily fluids) we can totally buy Sydney Sweeney’s new Bathwater Bliss Soap. I don’t see the problem here. No but seriously, I am kind of sort of grossed out by that. Like, why? But dude, there’s a fetish for everything and I’m not going to yuck anyone’s yum. So, if washing yourself with a bar of soap infused with Sydney’s potential DNA (hey, her bathwater might have some flaky skin in there ya never know!) is your thing I’m not judging.

Apparently to create Bathwater Bliss Soap, Sydney took a dip in a bubble bath and Dr. Squatch packaged some the same suds from the ad they shot into a brand new product called Bathwater Bliss which is available for a limited time. It’s formulated with exfoliating sand, pink bark extract, Sydney’s bath water, and potentially her sweat, tears, pieces of skin, and other unmentionables (I dramatized the last part for effect).

I am curious how MUCH of her bathwater is in each bar. I assume it’s mere drop but question, is this hygienic? I mean, if I use it could I catch an STD or something? I’m kidding, I’m kidding. But it just seems a wild idea and trust me, over the years, we’ve all heard some really great Beauty Most Unusual stories haven’t we? We’re all old enough to remember when Lady Gaga told her perfume was going to smell like blood and semen and of course, we had Sarah Jessica Parker saying hers smelled like a sweaty man.

We’ve lived through all! Snail mucin, salmon semen, Marmite flavored Vaseline, it’s been a wild few years in beauty. I feel confident we can get through a bar of Sydney Sweeney’s bath water soap! But just saying, if I did have to choose, I would want a bar of soap infused with Max Kornthas bath water, that’s all of saying. Nothing more to see here. I mean, look at him, you’d totally buy a bar of soap with his bath water infused in it right?

Sydney Sweeney soap dropped yesterday but only 100 bars were made. Sorry, but she’s GONE gone. Maybe they’ll do another round or collaborate with someone else soon (Max, hint hint hint)! So, tell me, who’s bathwater do you want in your soap? LOL!

Meroda Cosmetics Velvet Dream Lipstick Review – Is It Worth the Hype? | Makeup Savvy

by Lina Clémence June 1, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

AD This is a paid for ad in partnership Meroda Cosmetics

Over the years lipstick has been a key staple in my makeup routine as I truly believe it has the power to bring any makeup look together to create something more polished and elegant.

With a makeup bag full of lipstick I still can’t get enough of them, so when Meroda Cosmetics reached out and asked if I wanted to try their collection of Velvet Dream Lipstick I jumped at the chance.

Meroda Cosmetic Velvet Dream Lipsticks come in four classic shades – Perfect Nude, Pink Peony, Luscious Red and Grape Galore. Boasting a cruelty-free & vegan formula and contains several nourishing ingredients such as vitamin E to keep your lips looking smooth and comfortable throughout the day.

Meroda Cosmetics Velvet Dream Lipstick Shades

Meroda Cosmetics Velvet Dream Lipsticks

Pink Peony – Best described as a soft pink blush shade this has instantly become my go-to daytime lipstick of choice. Not only do I find this shade compliments my fair skin-tone but the pigmented yet soft diffused colour really brightens the complexion. I know I will be reaching for this lipstick a lot!

Luscious Red – If you want to make a statement then this is the shade for you. This deep yet bold red is another complex booster that I have found to brighten my overall complexion. With buildable coverage, I feel this is a wonderful versatile red – when dabbed onto the lips it can easily become a fun daytime look yet when paired with the matching Meroda Cosmetics Luscious Red Signature Lip Pencil and applied directly from the bullet you have a much more dramatic evening look that has great staying power.

Grape Galore – Described by Meroda as a bold purple, Grape Galore is easily my favourite shade for the upcoming colder months. While this is another statement shade the coverage again can be adjusted to suit the occasion. With its warm undertones, I feel this will also compliment all skin tones and give a healthy glow against the skin.

Perfect Nude – You truly can’t go wrong with a nude lipstick, can you? This neutral-toned nude is another everyday favourite for me now as whatever my makeup look it never fails to look anything other than perfect. The velvet matte formula gives this nude a soft natural finish that I think most people will appreciate.

Lipstick Application

As the name suggests these gorgeous lipsticks offer a velvety matte finish which on application instantly impressed me as while they are highly pigmented they simply glide over the lips making application beyond effortless.

Comfortability-wise this range feels almost feather-like on the lips thanks to the addition of some nourishing ingredients and while offering a soft matte finish which never feels drying I’m very pleased to report.

As for longevity, when paired with Meroda Cosmetics Signature Lip Pencil a defined long-lasting bleed-free lip look is created, ideal if you are going to an event or want a truly polished look. I must say the wear time for these lipsticks has thoroughly impressed me!

Meroda Cosmetics Velvet Dream Lipstick Reviewed

Overall Thoughts

As mentioned I am quite the lipstick addict, which does mean I can be quite critical with an arsenal of lipsticks to compare against. However, I truly have only positive things to say about this range – I find the minimal shade range precise and uncomplicated (each shade has its time and place which I love!). The formulation has been thoughtfully crafted to provide a nourishing, soft feel containing ginger extract that also manages to last the day. As for the chic packaging, I can’t get enough of the satisfying magnetic close of the lipsticks and the concealed mini sharpener to the end of each lip pencil – ingenious!

Overall I couldn’t be more in love with this range of lipsticks. Have you tried out the Meroda Cosmetics Velvet Dream Lipsticks yet?

Karah Katenkamp, Curve Model | Into The Gloss

by Lina Clémence June 1, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

“I grew up in a town of 100 people in rural Ohio—the nearest mall was an hour away—but when I was 13 my dad won a trip to New York City. He was allowed to bring one person and he picked me. I was obsessed with the city from the moment we took our first taxi ride. I got scouted on that trip, but being from rural Ohio, my dad said, ‘Absolutely freaking not.’ I got scouted again at a coffee shop in Cincinnati. I signed up for an old school modeling school that taught you things like how to walk and do your makeup. When I got my first job modeling nursing scrubs, which was really exciting, the girl who was running the project offered to connect me to people. She sent me to New York to meet with agencies and here I am, still modeling and doing jobs for brands like Fenty Beauty, Calvin Klein, Skims, and Aerie, which was incredible because the billboard appeared in Times Square. Seeing myself three stories high? Just thinking about it makes me emotional because I think of that 13-year-old who came to the city for the first time and what she would’ve thought if she saw herself.

At the end of the day, I’m a model, but it’s important for me to continue saying that I’m a curve model to emphasize that we’re still in the industry and representing curvy women. I never saw that growing up. I even remember Googling curvy models to see girls who looked like me but I could never find any. And by the way, I don’t mind being called ‘plus-size.’ I’ve always been strong and thick. When I came to New York, I had an agent ask me about my ‘weight gain story’ and that really threw me off because I’d always been this size—and it’s that way for a lot of women. There’s not necessarily something that ‘happened.’ We are women. We are curvy. That’s it. So, how did I get here? Well, I was just born. [Laughs]

I’ve had to learn to take care of my skin well since I’m on set a lot. That means I don’t use a lot of active or really intense ingredients because I have eczema and psoriasis, and my skin can flare up pretty easily. That said, one of the best parts about being a model is that I get to try all sorts of products. Every makeup artist swears by different things, and somewhere along the way I heard about La Roche-Posay’s Cicaplast Balm. It’s changed the game for me. It’s so thick and hydrating, so I slather it on overnight when my skin is unhappy, and by the morning, my skin’s texture is a lot better.

I always go back to Bioderma’s micellar water to take off my makeup—it never leaves a film. My eye makeup remover—the Bi-Facil from Lancôme—is a little oily though. It’s what I grab when I wear heavy eye makeup at work, but it’s gentle at the same time. Osea’s Ocean cleanser is really gentle, too—and it smells really good.

My aesthetician—I see Gosia at Williamsburg Beauty Spa every two months or so—recommended that I use Biojuve’s Living Biome serum once a week because it has live probiotics, which are helpful with rosacea. I follow it up with the Activating mist, which is supposed to ‘activate’ the serum. And Weleda Skin Food Light is my go-to moisturizer year-round. It always leaves me with a beautiful base for makeup.

250218 ITG Karah Katenkamp 0070

I’m going to be honest: I don’t wear sunscreen every day. I’ve had a hard time finding one that doesn’t break me out. But if I know I’m going to be outside for more than 20 minutes, I like Supergoop!’s Every Single Face SPF 50. I love that it’s really watery and goes on smoothly.

When it comes to body cleansers, I recently discovered Avène’s XeraCalm A.D cleansing oil. I feel like a lot of body washes leave your skin dry, but this one is not stripping at all. And I use Eucerin’s Eczema Relief Cream every morning and night, but especially when I have a photoshoot. It leaves this really beautiful glow on my skin but it doesn’t make me look shiny either. Oh, and the Aquaphor healing ointment? I use it on everything: on my lips, on my hands, on my elbows. Sometimes I use a tiny bit to slug if my face is super dry.

By the way, I self-tan every two weeks, maybe a little bit more frequently in the winter because I’m typically shooting summer campaigns then so I need to have some color on me. I’m a pro at tanning by now. My favorite is the St. Tropez Self Tan Express Bronzing Mousse. It fades so gradually, it’s great.

Tools-wise, I love my TheraFace. I use it to prep for shoots. It has so many attachments, but my favorite is the cold ring. I use a lot of ice on my face—sometimes I’ll dip my head in a bowl of water with a bunch of ice—but if I have enough time, I’ll grab the TheraFace or my gua sha cryo sticks. The TheraFace also has a hot ring that feels so great on my masseters, which tend to hold a lot of tension. And I love the Omnilux contour red light mask so much. I try to use it for 10 minutes every night and it helps so much with my rosacea. Even if I have windburn, if I use it before heading to bed, it’s gone by the next day.

On a normal day, I don’t wear makeup. I like to let my skin breathe and have a rest from all the makeup at work. If I do wear something on a day off, I just curl my lashes and apply lip gloss and mascara. But I only wear tubing mascara because I struggle with raccoon eyes. The first time I discovered it, I literally wanted to cry because I used to carry around concealer and makeup wipes with me every day. Caliray and No7 make great ones. Caliray goes on a bit thicker so I use that one for more glam looks, whereas No7 is better for castings because it’s less dramatic. It helps too that I tint my lashes every two weeks. I never thought I would do that myself, but then I had a makeup artist tell me it was really easy and she was right. It takes five minutes, too. And Fenty Beauty makes my favorite gloss, the Gloss Bomb in Fu$$y. The shade’s not that far off from my actual lip color—and I never want to stray too far. Oh, and for a little extra touch because I don’t have defined lip lines, I love Mac’s liner in Stripdown. It’s a ‘90s classic.

If I’m wearing a bit more makeup for a casting, I go for the Nars Soft Matte concealer. It blends really well and gives me good coverage. I have a couple of different shades because I like to mix them to really match my skin. Then I use the Nars Laguna bronzing cream in Laguna 02 on my eyelids. I picked this up from another makeup artist: If your eyelid is a little bit darker than your under eye, you look like you don’t have dark circles. The tails of my eyebrows don’t grow as thick as I’d like, so I fill them in with the Kosas Brow Pop Nano pencil in Medium Brown. Then I do a little touch of Merit’s highlighter in Bounce, too. It’s a little pink and not too shimmery. For blush, I love Nudestix’s blush stick in Bare Back, a cool nude that looks so, so natural on me. And I like to depot all of my face products and lipsticks into Vueset containers. It’s so much easier to travel or go to castings with two containers that are smaller than index cards than to pack a bunch of bottles.

250218 ITG Karah Katenkamp 0429

On the hair front, I go to David Bullen at Pearlita for cuts. But I don’t dye it—anymore. I went through a phase in high school where I dyed the bottom half of my head in all kinds of colors—the bottom was mom saying ‘yes’ to dyeing it and the top was to make my dad happy. But pink, blue, purple… You name it, I had it. That was enough for a lifetime. [Laughs]

I wash my hair almost every day, but if I wasn’t on set all of the time, I would wash it twice a week. I love the Pacific Salty Wave shampoo and conditioner. They’re my secret find. A bottle of each is only $10. They don’t have sulfates or parabens, but the shampoo still lathers, which is important to me because I don’t feel like I actually washed my hair otherwise. And the saltiness gives my hair great shape and volume. For styling, Redken’s Max Hold is the best. I love the nozzle because it sprays in a triangular mist, so it’s not too aggressive. And the ends of my hair really love the Badger herbal oil. It smells like almonds, which honestly is probably what really gets me.

On the fragrance front I love citrus-y, musky-but-light scents. I ultimately want something that blends well with my skin and doesn’t stand out too much. I recently discovered Lunamaris from Diptyque. It’s supposed to remind you of moonlight—it’s inspired by the moon reflecting on the ocean—and I guess it does. It has pink peppercorn, incense, and rockrose. I’m quite conservative in spending, but it was worth the splurge. The same goes for Santa Maria Novella’s Cinquanta. I bought it in Florence last November. It’s meant to be a blend of Japanese and Italian culture, so it’s got bergamot, grapefruit, and orange blossom as a nod to Florence and green tea as a nod to Kyoto. I found the brand through TikTok actually—everyone was posting about it in Florence—and it was my first real introduction to high-end fragrance. It’s insane that they’ve been around since 1221. 804 years? That’s crazy.”

Back Pain on Long Island: Causes, Care, and Effective Treatments

by Lina Clémence May 31, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Back pain is a common issue that affects millions of people across the United States, and Long Island is no exception. Whether it’s caused by poor posture, injury, or an underlying medical condition, discomfort in the back can significantly impact daily life. For residents of Long Island, finding effective relief and long-term solutions is essential to maintaining quality of life and staying active in one of New York’s most vibrant regions.

Understanding Back Pain on Long Island

Back pain comes in many forms—acute, chronic, localized, or radiating—and its causes are just as varied. From office workers who sit for extended periods to athletes pushing their bodies to the limit, nearly everyone experiences some level of spinal discomfort at some point. On Long Island, where lifestyles range from high-paced urban living in Nassau County to more relaxed suburban settings in Suffolk, the need for accessible and expert care is growing.

The spine is a complex structure made up of bones, muscles, ligaments, and nerves, and any imbalance or strain can lead to pain. Common culprits include herniated discs, sciatica, muscle strains, arthritis, and even stress-related tension. The good news is that with the right approach, most cases of back pain can be managed effectively.

Why Back Pain Is a Growing Concern on Long Island

As the population ages and sedentary jobs increase, back pain has become more prevalent across Long Island communities. With so many residents commuting into New York City or working desk-bound jobs locally, spinal health is often overlooked until discomfort becomes severe.

Moreover, Long Island’s diverse population includes many active seniors, young families, and professionals who rely on mobility and physical comfort to enjoy everything the region offers—from beachside activities in the summer to winter sports like skiing and snowboarding. When back pain long island interferes, it can disrupt not only personal enjoyment but also professional productivity.

Another factor contributing to rising cases is the lack of awareness about preventative care. Many individuals don’t realize that simple lifestyle changes—like improving posture, strengthening core muscles, or investing in ergonomic furniture—can make a big difference in avoiding chronic issues.

Treatment Options Available Across Long Island

For those experiencing discomfort, the good news is that Long Island offers a wide array of treatment options tailored to individual needs. From traditional chiropractic care and physical therapy to advanced medical interventions, local clinics and hospitals provide comprehensive support for back-related conditions.

Chiropractors on Long Island specialize in spinal adjustments and non-invasive treatments that help realign the body and relieve pressure on nerves. Physical therapists offer personalized exercise programs designed to strengthen muscles, improve flexibility, and restore movement. In more serious cases, orthopedic specialists may recommend injections or minimally invasive procedures to address specific problems like disc degeneration or nerve compression.

Additionally, holistic approaches such as acupuncture, massage therapy, and yoga have gained popularity among Long Islanders seeking natural ways to manage pain. These complementary therapies can work alongside conventional treatments to enhance overall recovery and well-being.

Finding the Right Care Provider

When dealing with spinal discomfort, choosing the right healthcare provider is crucial. Long Island is home to numerous highly rated spine specialists, pain management clinics, and wellness centers dedicated to helping patients find relief. It’s important to look for professionals who take a patient-centered approach, focusing on both short-term symptom relief and long-term prevention strategies.

Before selecting a provider, consider asking for recommendations from friends or family, reading online reviews, and checking credentials. Many reputable practitioners offer free consultations or initial assessments to determine the best course of action based on your specific condition.

Telehealth services have also expanded in recent years, making it easier than ever to connect with experts without leaving home. This is especially helpful for those with limited mobility or busy schedules.

Preventing Future Back Problems

Prevention is always better than cure, and there are several steps you can take to reduce the risk of developing chronic back issues. Maintaining a healthy weight, practicing good posture, engaging in regular low-impact exercise, and using proper lifting techniques are all key components of spinal health.

Ergonomic improvements at workstations—such as adjustable chairs, standing desks, and monitor stands—can also play a major role in reducing strain on the spine. Employers on Long Island are increasingly recognizing the importance of creating healthier work environments, which benefits both employees and businesses.

Mindfulness practices like stretching, deep breathing, and meditation can also help alleviate tension in the back and promote overall relaxation. Incorporating these habits into daily routines can go a long way toward keeping the spine strong and flexible.

Living Well Despite Back Pain

While back pain can feel limiting, it doesn’t have to control your life. With the right care and mindset, many people on Long Island successfully manage their symptoms and continue enjoying the activities they love. Whether it’s walking along the North Shore beaches, hiking through Sunken Meadow State Park, or simply playing with grandchildren, staying active within your limits is key to recovery.

Support groups and community resources are also available for those looking to connect with others facing similar challenges. Sharing experiences and learning from others can be empowering and motivating during the healing process.

Conclusion

Back pain is a widespread concern that affects people of all ages and lifestyles, and Long Island is no stranger to this challenge. Fortunately, with access to top-notch healthcare providers, a variety of treatment options, and a growing emphasis on preventive care, residents have the tools they need to manage and overcome spinal discomfort.

Whether you’re currently dealing with pain or simply want to protect your back for the future, taking proactive steps now can make a world of difference. By prioritizing spinal health and seeking timely care when needed, Long Islanders can continue to live full, active lives in one of the most dynamic regions in the country.

My Solace Experience

by Lina Clémence May 31, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

All my clients know that skincare is a
huge deal for me. I will research and research and research until I am
thoroughly knowledgeable on a skin care product and/or skincare service. So why
is it that I have only treated myself to a facial once or twice in my life? I
could blame it on my chaotic schedule, or the fact that I use a pretty solid
skin care regimen at home and don’t feel the need to get a facial, but really it’s
just sheer laziness and apprehensiveness to spend money on something I feel
just “meh” about.

That’s until I received an invitation to visit the newly
opened Solace Wellness Center & MedSpa in Tewksbury. OH EM GEE. From the
minute I walked into the door , I immediately felt at ease. The calming music
coupled with the clean yet inviting decor and design pulled me right in. Also, WHAT IS IN THE AIR!? The whole place smells amazing! I
actually just stood there for a minute soaking it all in… (and then pulled out
my phone to share with you guys on my Instagram story— duh!)

Rachael, the service manager at Solace, and also a loyal client of mine, gave me a tour of the entire spa. From cathedral ceilings, to a waterfall wall, and an outdoor balcony seating area, this place has it ALL! I truly felt like I was at a resort in Bali. Such a heavenly feeling!

But let’s talk about what really counts: the services- which were out of this world! First and foremost, Rachael led me to the Visia Skin Complexion machine which analyzed my skin in high detail. I have ALWAYS wanted to do one of these and was super excited (and nervous) to see the results! I thought it was really clever that they analyzed the left side of my face since it gets the most sun exposure from your car window and thus shows the most damage!

I was then led to locker room where I was provided a place to store my belongings and a plush robe and slippers!  When I was ready, Rachael led me to the infrared sauna which was incredibly relaxing, calming and rejuvenating!!

Saunas always make me feel like I can’t breathe- but not this one!

Did I sweat? Yes! Get those germs out! Did I feel overwhelmed? No. In fact, I stayed in there for almost 30 minutes letting those infrared wavelengths do their thing. The owner and clinical director, Dr. Wu, explained to me that the infrared saunas are scientifically backed and have been used in Norway for decades and many Norwegians have them in their homes! The infrared waves penetrate deep into your muscles helping to relieve muscle and joint pain along with many other health benefits! Just ask the team at Solace and they will give you the full break down of the medical benefits!

As soon as I stepped out of sauna, Rebecca, a registered nurse, was waiting for me and handed me a glass of water. Solace operates a filtering system called Pure2o Alkaline Plus, which uses reverse osmosis and removes water toxins and alkalizes it to the pH level that will best benefit our bodies!

Rebecca led me to my “Red Carpet” facial, which is great for guests wanting that instant glow & firming results (*cough- all my brides- cough*)! I really appreciated that she had both the knowledge of a nurse and the passion for skincare. She began by asking my skin type (dry) and then customizing my facial using Nelly Devuyst products- a European skincare line.  I loved that Rebecca used Nelly’s organic line on me! I felt so safe and comfortable with everything going on my face. Fun fact: 2 minutes before this picture was taken, I had fallen asleep during my relaxing facial. Lord knows I needed that nap!

At the end of my appointment, Rachael took me to a private room and read the results of my skin analysis, which showed my skins percentile scores relative to others the same age, gender and skin type. (The higher the score, the better.) I was able to see my skin’s UV damage, brown spots, under skin bacteria and it
even had a toggle to show what you can expect your skin to look like in 5 years
if you continue to do what you normally do without any treatments! The most intriguing and important
part for me was that it gives your skin a final score (not shown here) and as you continue your
treatments at Solace, it will show the improvements you have made and what
your new score is with each visit! This ensures the fact that you are not just receiving a fluff and buff facial, but one that’s actually benefiting your skin!

Another fun fact: The analysis shows your real age vs. the age of your skin!! I’m 29 with skin analysis results of a 24 year old! WOOHOO!  I’LL TAKE IT!!!

A huge thank you to Solace for inviting Glamour Cosmetics to see your absolutely beautiful med-spa! ! I have finally found my go-to spa resort! See you soon!

Vegan Makeup & Skincare 300+ Brands List

by Lina Clémence May 31, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

This post may contain affiliate links that at no additional cost to you, I may earn a small commission.

A comprehensive and frequently updated list of 100% Vegan makeup and beauty brands in 2024.

What makes this vegan makeup and beauty brands list different from our cruelty-free brands list?

This vegan beauty brands list is exclusive to cosmetics companies that are 100% vegan AND cruelty-free. That means we have vetted each beauty brand to ensure they don’t test on animals and none of their cosmetics products contain any animal-derived ingredients or by-products.

These brands are then categorized accordingly:

For a comprehensive list of cruelty-free brands that include brands that may not be entirely vegan but that do offer some vegan options, check our Cruelty-Free Brand Directory instead.

Some makeup brands claim to be cruelty-free, where none of their products or ingredients are tested on animals. However, their products may contain animal-derived ingredients or by-products. Some common animal products found in makeup include carmine, beeswax, pearl powder, animal-derived fatty acids, and animal hair used for makeup brushes. The following vegan makeup brands do not test on animals and do not use any animal-derived ingredients or by-products in any of their products.

Some makeup brush brands claim to be “cruelty-free” yet use natural animal hair bristles for their brushes. Although companies claim this process is done in a cruelty-free manner and the animals are not harmed, we do not support the practice of taking an animal’s fur to make makeup brushes. Therefore, below is a list of vegan makeup brushes made by 100% vegan beauty brands.

What is this Vegan Brands List?

This master list comprises all cosmetics brands that have been verified by us to not conduct or commission any animal testing on their ingredients, formulations, or finished products anywhere in the world.

That also includes not selling their cosmetics products in stores in mainland China under conditions where animal testing may be required by law. In addition, brands included on this list must only offer vegan products. This means absolutely no animal-derived ingredients or by-products are used —in any and all of their products!

Why Support These Vegan Brands?

As part of choosing to live a cruelty-free and conscious lifestyle, we want to support brands that don’t test on animals. However, we also want to make sure none of the ingredients in our cosmetics were cruelly obtained from animals. And that’s why choosing cosmetics and personal care products made without animal-based ingredients is the best way to ensure no animals are harmed.

Also, choosing to support and buy from these 100% vegan brands shows there’s growing consumer demand for vegan products and that running a 100% vegan company is sustainable and profitable. This will hopefully motivate other brands to go entirely vegan as well.

So, I hope with this vegan brands list, you’ll get to discover the incredible and growing number of vegan makeup and beauty brands!
