1. YSL Clutch

View on Farfetch

This is a perfect little clutch for an evening bag and there are so many different ways you can wear it, making it very usable. The price for the YSL clutch pieces has increased over the years and it seems to be a great bag to invest in.

Usually, for a regular YSL crossbody bag, you pay over $2000, but due to its small size, this beauty is way under $1000.

2. Gucci Shoulder Bag

View on Farfetch

Next on the list, is the Gucci Ophidia shoulder bag. Besides its beautiful classic design with the red and green Gucci line, we’re so drawn to the fact that it holds so much. Plus, the long adjustable strap makes it adaptable to be worn as a crossbody, on the shoulder, and however else you feel like it.

It’s hard to find a good-sized Gucci bag for under $1000, and this is why in our opinion, the Ophidia is such an amazing find: it holds a lot, and it’s beautiful.

3. Louis Vuitton Speedy 30

View on Fashionphile

The Speedy 30 is what we call a classic designer bag. It’s a perfect size that will fit pretty much anything you need. The colors We recommend the long strap. The price point will depend on the condition.

4. Chloe Mini Marcie Crossbody

View on Fashionphile

This is such a beautiful piece, and the inside is very roomy for such a small bag.

It can hold your wallet, phone, cosmetics, and card holders.

The stitching is beautiful and the strap is adjustable so you could wear it over the shoulder. This beautiful Chloe is so versatile and perfect to use as an everyday bag with its classic equestrian look to it.

5. Stella McCartney Satchel

View on Farfetch

This beautiful animal-friendly Stella McCartney satchel bag is a great bag to invest in.

It is slightly over $1000, but most of the time you’ll find nice discounts to get it under this budget. It comes with a removable strap, and it is available in multiple gorgeous colors.

6. Gucci Mini Bag GG

View on Fashionphile

Another great designer bag on the list is the Gucci Mini Bag. This one is only 18 centimeters wide, so it will be able only to fit your phone and other small bits, hence why it is under a thousand dollars.

But the overall style of this bag is so classic and beautiful, with the black/brown leather and monogram print.

It also comes with a top handle and a long strap that you can wear on one shoulder or across the body. Being so small, you could also just hold it. The gold hardware looks beautiful as well.

7. Mulberry Bag

The Mulberry bag has more like a classic timeless kind of look and it’s a bag that you can wear 10 years from now and still look good. The Mulberry Lilly redesign comes at a quite reasonable price point for its size.

You can fit plenty of things in there which is super practical.

The neutral color goes both in summer and winter, which makes it super versatile.

8. The Ferragamo Gancini Tote

View on Luisvisaroma

The Ferragamo Gancini is a piece worth of price.

The leather and craftsmanship are so nice and high quality.

Inside you find a beautiful liner, with also a nice flat pouch with microfiber lining, with a very luxurious feeling, where you can put your small belongings.

It looks fresh and unique, and the great thing is: that if you get it dirty, you can wipe it clean easily if you get to it quickly.

9. Givenchy Camera Bag

View on Fashionphile

With a long adjustable crossbody or shoulder strap, this camera-style bag is a must-add to your collection.

The camera bag is below 1000 and the surprising thing is that you can fit quite a LOT in them.

It features a front pocket, that is very handy for your keys, cards, or small make-up things. It’s a really lovely practical bag, that can be worn every time of the day.

10. Saint Laurent Tote

View on Rebag

Saint Laurent bag is a classic tote bag that is technically over 1000$ but you have a fair chance of scoring a coupon code or getting it discounted to just under $1000.

This stunning piece is a perfect medium-sized tote bag, and unlike others, it doesn’t look too big or bulky when you wear it.

11. Mulberry Bayswater Tote

View on Farfetch

The Mulberry Bayswater tot is one of our favorites on this list because is so practical and usable.

This tote bag with the beautiful Mulberry lock in the front. This is perfect to wear at work or to travel with.

The tan color fits every style and the leather wears nice in time.

It’s a great option for a designer tote, with a good price, and perfect for carrying around lots of items with you. Even if you need to carry documents or your laptop, this bag is a great option.

VERNNA: The Art of Slow Fashion

by Lina Clémence June 19, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

VERNNA is a brand of clothes, jewelry, accessories, and home decoration. It strives to evoke natural elements in their Limited Edition capsule collections. Garments are made from noble materials as well as tapestries and cushions from discards. Every piece is designed in efforts to promote the synthesis of form, functionality, and quality.

Designer Barbara Vernengo highlights the concept of slow fashion when discussing the details of her brand. “It’s the opposite of fast fashion,” she tells us. “It’s timeless. It’s classic. I hope that customers come in and truly feel the quality of the fabrics I use. Then, they can purchase an item that they cannot find anywhere else.”

WhatsApp Image 2023-08-09 at 22.04.57.jpeg

When asked where she finds inspiration for her work, she quickly responded, “I find inspiration in nature and fabric. For example, I pride myself in being a ‘fabric seeker.’ I love how I can find a piece of fabric and transform it into an entirely new work of art.” But she also noted the difficulties in maintaining this creativity in a world of commercialism. “I make a conscious effort to prioritize quality and originality in every collection. I also want to be sustainable in a world that does not always work with the motive of promoting sustainability.”

WhatsApp Image 2023-08-15 at 17.11.45.jpeg

VERNNA is also a representation of the talented women in Bárbara’s family. Her sister Lucia Vernengo is a jewelry designer whose work is a part of VERNNA. Her mother and aunts also hand-weave unique pieces for the brand. As she looks forward to the future, Barbara hopes to expand. “I am ready to produce more home decorations and even play with the ideas of experimentation and art.”

As it enters its second year, the Junior Style Awards continues to grow into more than just a competition — it’s a global celebration of talent, inclusion, and the future. A space where creativity is honored, diversity is embraced, and every voice — young and seasoned — has a place to shine.

A Fashion Expert’s Take on Brunello Cucinelli’s Winter 2024 Collection

by Lina Clémence June 16, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Interviewer: Brunello Cucinelli recently rejected the term “quiet luxury” for his Winter 2024 collection, instead championing “gentle luxury.” What does that mean?

Italist Fashion Expert: Cucinelli believes that “quiet luxury” oversimplifies the depth of his craftsmanship. For him, true luxury is bold and full of life—every stitch, every material tells a story. Gentle luxury emphasizes balance: it’s elegant without being ostentatious, soft yet strong, and rooted in tradition but open to modern expression. It’s a more human, ethical approach to luxury, where the focus is on quality, care, and community.

Interviewer: How is this philosophy reflected in the new ready to wear collection?

Italist Fashion Expert: In the ready collection, you see rich textures like cashmere and leather, but there’s also a fresh energy. Earthy tones ground the collection, but then unexpected bursts of coral red and lobster orange bring boldness and optimism. It’s a perfect embodiment of gentle luxury—elegance with an uplifting, joyful spirit.

Interviewer: How does Cucinelli’s commitment to slow fashion fit into this?

Italist Fashion Expert: His focus on slow fashion aligns with gentle luxury perfectly. It’s about creating fewer, better pieces that last—crafted with sustainability in mind and rooted in ethical sourcing. Cucinelli’s garments are meant to endure in both quality and style, celebrating artistry and long-lasting value.

Some Italian Wines for Warm Weather Drinking • Italia Living

by Lina Clémence June 15, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Salute to Spring & Summer

When the sun is high and the days are long, there’s nothing quite like a chilled glass of wine to beat the heat and elevate the moment. Italian wines, with their vibrant acidity, fresh fruit flavors, and food-friendly profiles, are tailor-made for summer sipping. Whether you’re lounging on the patio, enjoying a picnic, or grilling by the beach, here’s a guide to the best Italian wines that bring a splash of la dolce vita to the warmer months.

Pinot Grigio – The Classic Crowd-Pleaser

Italy’s Pinot Grigio is the poster child of summer whites—crisp, clean, and effortlessly drinkable. Hailing primarily from the northeastern regions like Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and Trentino-Alto Adige, these wines offer notes of green apple, lemon zest, and white flowers.

Perfect Pairing: Light seafood dishes, caprese salad, or a charcuterie board on the patio.

Vermentino – The Mediterranean Charmer

Vermentino thrives in coastal regions like Sardinia, Liguria, and Tuscany.  This wine is like a seaside escape in a glass. Intensely flavored and aromatic delivering notes of flowers, passion fruit, peach, apple and spices, with a hint of wild Mediterranean herbs and sea breeze.

I always enjoy Antinori wines, and one of my favorites is their Vermentino.

Perfect Pairing: Grilled fish, pesto pasta, or anything with a splash of olive oil and lemon.

Fiano and Greco di Tufo – Southern Italy’s Secret Weapons

From the sun-baked hills of Campania come two of Italy’s most underrated whites. Fiano brings a fuller body with notes of honey, hazelnuts, and ripe stone fruits, while Greco di Tufo leans more toward minerality and citrus zing.

Perfect Pairing: Shellfish, fried calamari, or herby chicken dishes.

Rosato – Italian Rosé with Attitude

Italian rosé (rosato) is no afterthought. Made from native grapes like Montepulciano, Negroamaro, and Aglianico, these wines tend to be more robust than their French cousins but still incredibly refreshing. Look for bottles from Abruzzo, Puglia, and Sicily.

Perfect Pairing: Grilled vegetables, sausage, or a picnic spread under the sun.

Lambrusco – The Fizzy Red You Didn’t Know You Needed

Forget what you think you know about Lambrusco. The good stuff—dry or off-dry—comes from Emilia-Romagna and is lightly sparkling, deeply fruity, and surprisingly refreshing when served chilled. It’s a quirky, delightful wine that’s great for barbecues.

Perfect Pairing: Pizza, burgers, and cured meats.

Lugana – Italy’s Lesser-Known White Wine

From the small Italian region of Lugana and made from the native grape Turbiana, comes a versatile delightful white. This wine is produced on the shores of Lake Garda and typically features crisp, bright citrus with aromatic herbs and spring blossom aromas.

Tommasi Le Fornaci Lugana is an outstanding wine and easily one of my favorite whites.

Perfect Pairing: Great as an easy-drinking aperitivo or serve with antipasto and any fish dishes.

Orvieto Classico – The Best Known Wine of Umbria

Orvieto Classico is typically a blend of Grechetto and Trebbiano grapes. Often Orvieto’s fruity and floral bouquet is reminiscent of green apples and meadow flowers. This wine’s smooth, refreshing flavors balance beautifully with its structure and acidity.

Ruffino Orvieto Classico is another one of my favorite go-to wines, extremely versatile and at a great price-point.

Perfect Pairing: A lively dry white ideal as an aperitif or paired with seafood, light pasta dishes, grilled vegetables or white pizza.

Prosecco – Always a Good Idea

No summer wine list would be complete without Prosecco. This sparkling wine from the Veneto region is light, fruity, and versatile. Whether you’re mixing up an Aperol Spritz or toasting with a flute of Brut Prosecco, it’s guaranteed to bring a festive fizz.

Perfect Pairing: Brunch, happy hour, or celebratory clinks with friends.

Tips for Enjoying Italian Wines in Spring and Summer

  • Serve chilled—but not icy cold. Most whites and rosés shine at about 45–50°F (7–10°C).

  • Don’t overlook reds: Light-bodied reds like Dolcetto or Frappato can be slightly chilled for a refreshing twist.

  • Buy young vintages: Freshness is key for summer wines, so go for the most recent vintage available.

  • Pair with summer fare: Italian wines are meant to be enjoyed with food. Think grilled seafood, seasonal veggies, and fresh herbs.

Italian wines bring a sense of place, passion, and joy to any summer gathering. From sparkling bubbles to coastal whites and chillable reds, there’s a bottle for every mood and menu. So this season, take a page from the Italian lifestyle—pour a glass, slow down, and savor the sunshine.

Salute!

Nomad iPhone & iPad Cases / Style Dieter

by Lina Clémence June 14, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Many lifestyle brands and products that are built around a rugged lifestyle lack a refined touch. But not Nomad.

From the “ChargeCard” Kickstarter project in 2012 to now a quality, legit growing accessory brand, Nomad has come a long way.

From the many similar brands that I’ve seen, this burgeoning brand seems to have nailed both “form” and “function” perfectly, especially the leather iPhone and iPad cases that I like very much.

Nomad Goods Iphone Ipad Nomad IPhone & IPad Cases

Nomad appreciates subtlety and understands that their customers would too, and so they don’t slap logos on their products’ beautiful leather surfaces. #majorlove The brand also takes product ageing into consideration in their product design, and they walk the talk by featuring “After 100 Days” photos on all their leather product pages.

On the other hand, the brand dedicated a “Wallpaper” page featuring downloadable wallpapers which I really appreciate. This nice little branding act is often overlooked when profit margin and business growth is the priority.

Dressing Well Isn’t Vanity – It’s Strategy

by Lina Clémence June 13, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

In a world that claims to value skill over style, reality proves otherwise. Humans are visual creatures. Before a word is spoken, a handshake offered, or a résumé read—your appearance is already doing the talking. People make snap judgments. Your image arrives before your talent does.

The hard truth? Society respects what it sees before it respects what you do.

Dressing well is not about following trends or chasing runway looks. It’s about strategic survival. It’s your armour in a world that weighs you up before you even open your mouth. The well-dressed are perceived as more competent, more confident, more credible. That’s not fashion—it’s psychology.

Skills may win in the long run, but your image opens the door. The most successful people understand this. They invest in their appearance not out of vanity, but to send a message: I take myself seriously, so you should too.

Don’t let trends distract you. This isn’t about keeping up with fashion; it’s about showing up ready to face a world that measures you before it knows you.

“Your skills pay the bills, but your image opens the door.” — Gracie Opulanza

Your clothes speak before your CV ever gets read.

Body:
Let’s get real—humans judge based on appearance.
Your skills matter, but your image decides whether people even give you a chance to prove them.

In business and in life, people respect your outfit before they respect your expertise.
It’s not shallow—it’s instinctual.

This doesn’t mean chasing trends or designer logos.
It means crafting a look that says:
✔ I respect myself
✔ I know who I am
✔ I’m worth listening to

Your wardrobe is not decoration.
It’s communication.
Power dressing is not about fashion—it’s about commanding space before you speak.

Dress not to impress, but to survive society.

Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra ring review: Timeless elegance

by Lina Clémence June 12, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Last Updated on May 26, 2025 by Eve Dawes

Is Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra ring worth it? A deep dive into Van Cleef & Arpels iconic design

The Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra ring and Magic Alhambra between the finger ring like all of the Alhambra collection are more than just a piece of jewelry, they’re a timeless symbol of elegance and good luck. The Alhambra collection was first Introduced back in 1968 and the quatrefoil design draws inspiration from the four-leaf clover to embody luck and harmony. Good luck is a common theme throughout Van Cleef’s designs from their Lucky Spring to their Lucky Animal collection. The Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra ring is crafted with meticulous attention to detail as you’d expect from this luxury jewelry brand. As soon as you put on their rings, you can’t fail to notice the brand’s exceptional craftsmanship and quality. Whether adorned with mother-of-pearl, onyx, or diamonds, the Alhambra ring’s versatile design makes it suitable for both everyday wear and special occasions but is it worth the price?

This article contains affiliate links.

Van Cleef & Arpels Vintage Alhambra ring made of 18K yellow gold, Onyx and a single 0.05 carat diamond.

Celebrity fans

Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra collection is the brand’s most popular collection. Its enduring appeal and iconic status in the world of fine jewelry has made it super popular with influencers and celebrities. You see everyone wearing the bracelets, earrings and necklaces but very few wearing the ring and that’s what appeals to me. I don’t want to wear the same as everyone else.

The only celebrities I found wearing them was Julia Roberts wearing the Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra ring and Jess Weixler wearing the Van Cleef & Arpels Magic Alhambra ring.

Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra ring review

I rented this vintage Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra ring in 18 karat gold and Onyx for a wedding. As well as to add to my Van Cleef & Arpel Alhambra jewelry review. The pretty and minimalist design is inspired by the clover leaf, to be an icon of luck.

Van Cleef & Arpels ring review | A close look

It’s made of 18K yellow gold and was more solid and weighty than I was expecting. It features the classic border of golden beads that’s on all of the Vintage Alhambra collection pieces. As well as a tiny single diamond (diamond quality DEF, IF to VVS) and I mean 0.05 carat tiny! If you’re considering buying something from the Alhambra collection this is definitely worth looking at. It’s also less overdone than the bracelets for example.

It comes in lots more colors than just black but black onyx or diamonds are such versatile classics you can wear with pretty much anything. The only downside is how hard it is to keep clean as you can see from the photo.

Van Cleef & Arpels Magic Alhambra between the finger ring

I love this ring as it’s such a statement piece. I think it’s worth paying a bit more for than the regular Alhambra ring to have something more unique. For something truly special, the Butterfly Between the Finger Ring or Magic Alhambra Between the FingerRring that’s rhodium plated 18K white gold with 58 round diamonds totaling 1.59 carats wins hands down for me.

Created in 2006 by Van Cleef & Arpels, the Magic Alhambra® jewelry creations gather different-sized Alhambra motifs, coming together in a joyful dance. Inspired by the clover leaf, their asymmetric designs feature different associations of materials. Van Cleef & Arpels

Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra ring prices

The Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra ring price ranges from $3750 + tax for the black onyx up to $13,300 for the diamond Alhambra ring new in store. I rented it from Join Switch (use code DawesEve22J for $50 credit) who lists it’s retail value is $4600. I’m not sure where they get their prices from. As they’re normally selling a used piece to you at a ‘member price’ that’s more expensive than buying it in a store brand new. I love the site for renting but for buying, definitely always price check first!

The Van Cleef & Arpels Magic Alhambra between the finger ring costs from $7300-$20,600.

Van Cleef Alhambra ring sizes

Both ring styles come in sizes 42-62. If in doubt size up not down. As you can always use a ring sizer like I do, especially on cold days when your fingers shrink. Whereas if it’s too small it could end up way too tight on hot days or when flying.

Is it worth it?

The Van Cleef Alhambra collection is iconic and instantly recognizable, even if it has come under fire recently on TikTok. If you can afford it, it’s what I’d consider a timeless and worthy investment for those looking for a blend of tradition and sophistication.

I like it but don’t know if I’d splurge on it. You’re paying for the brand more than anything else. For now, I’m going to keep renting versus buying to see how much use I get out of it before committing to it. Although Van Cleef, if you’re looking for a new ambassador, I’m here for it!

I can’t link to the Van Cleef & Arpels website in the carousel but I’ve linked to lots of preloved AKA second hand options, some of which are in giftable condition. One way to authenticate is to check inside the band for the VCA stamp.

Besides the Alhambra rings, I’ve also linked the Lotus, Frivole and Two Butterfly Between the Finger Ring in case you prefer those. You could also try renting first, use code DawesEve22J for $50 site credit. It’s a great way to get an idea of sizing, how it looks on, and to see how much you’d wear it.

Don’t Shop at Quince Until You Read This Unsponsored Review

by Lina Clémence June 11, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Wondering if Quince is legit or worth it? I placed two orders with Quince over the past couple of years—here’s everything you need to know before buying.

From cashmere sweaters to linen pants, I’ve tested several pieces from Quince firsthand. Below, you’ll find quick takeaways, close-up photos of the materials, and a detailed Quince review including sizing, fabric care, quality, and my overall experience as a repeat customer.

  • Good value for the price
  • High-quality materials: cashmere, cotton poplin, linen
  • Cashmere shrinks in the wash – dry clean or hand-wash only
  • Classic, wearable silhouettes
  • Sizing can be inconsistent—consider sizing down
  • I would order again (and have!)

Shop Quince > if you’re ready to browse, or keep reading the full Quince clothing review if you want to learn more.

Close-up of a hand holding soft white cashmere fabric, showcasing its texture.

Quince Fabrics: What I Bought & How They Wore Over Time

I’ve purchased items for myself, my husband, and my son, including:

  • Poplin cotton skirt (thick and crisp)
  • Linen pants (breathable and lightweight)
  • Cashmere sweater (soft and luxe, but shrinks if washed!)
  • Athletic shorts + dry-fit tees (comfortable, moisture-wicking)
  • Cotton tank: not great, it didn’t retain its shape

The quality is pretty consistent across most categories—materials feel elevated and better than what you’d expect at this price point.

My lightweight cashmere sweater shrank nearly two sizes in the wash. It’s still wearable (and I still wear it weekly), but I recommend dry cleaning or gently hand washing cashmere pieces from Quince to avoid shrinkage and pilling.

The photos are pre-wash. You can see the knit is really lightweight with a fair amount of space between the stitching. After a wash, those airy spaces disappeared and my sweater is about two sizes smaller. Note to the wise, don’t machine wash the cashmere.

A closeup of Quince manufacturing: good quality for the price range, and the pieces look more expensive than they cost.

Aside from the fabrics, a closeup of the manufacturing looks clean–no loose threads or uneven stitching. Combined with the high quality materials, I consider Quince a good quality for the price range. I’ve purchased items that cost more, and have worse quality.

Styles notes: Quince styles are not super modern, but timeless and easy to style.

I wouldn’t consider Quince “on top” of the trends. They’re not a fast-fashion retailer. If you’re looking for in-the-moment fashion, check out this MANGO review for some unique fashion pieces, or shop your staples at Zara.

If you’re looking for trendy or fashion-forward styles, Quince might feel a little plain. But if you want quality basics that won’t go out of style, their pieces are easy to mix and match.

Fit & Sizing Guide: What to Know Before You Buy

Quince sizing can be hit-or-miss:

  • Poplin skirt (XS): fit loose—barely stays up, but I kept it
  • Cashmere sweater (M): fit perfectly until I machine-washed it
  • Tank tops: a bit loose and didn’t retain shape
  • Linen pants: good fit, size down if between sizes

Tip: Try a size smaller than your usual, especially for bottoms and tops with stretch.

Would I buy Quince again? Absolutely.

Quince is on my quick-grab rack, I wear the pieces (even the shrunken cashmere sweater) on the weekly. Despite the minor issues (like cashmere care and sizing variance), Quince is one of my go-to places for affordable, high-quality wardrobe staples. I check in every season for updated core items.

Don’t expect luxe packaging or extra frills. Just simple, well-made clothes for women, men, and kids—at fair prices.
