Margie Plus River Island Tweed

by Lina Clémence July 30, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

I absolutely loved the look of a refined matching tweed set. The whole set gives me very clueless meets Princes Catherine realness. I got this jacket in a size US 20 and the skirt in a size 18 as my chest is large and I usually have to size up in my tops and jackets. I love River Islands plus size section because it offers a mix of both bold pieces and super on trend pieces to have us looking our best. I opted to wear my jacket off the shoulders and pin the bottom edges together for a twist on the classic look.

3 Steps to Owning The Season & Look Book

by Lina Clémence July 29, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

How have you been love? Are you ready for the holidays? I am definitely NOT ready and am firmly in disbelief that I’ve been in Florida for almost three years now!??!

With each passing year I marvel at how quickly I have acclimated to the climate and frequently admit that I’m a disgrace to my (Pacific Northwest) “kind”.  Who am I?!  In fact, when shooting these looks I felt transported to Oregon until the sun came back out from a cloud and I started sweating again. It was all worth it though and I am excited to share a look book that makes me dream of frosty air, scarves and hot cocoa.
This look book features pieces from my new Fall Glam collection (which you can shop here) and other styles from the Society+ line. The reason I added the confidence steps to this is because the most asked question I get is “how can I be confident like you?”. This question kills me each time because I wish I could say it’s a moment in time when a switch flips – but it’s not.
It’s taken me over a decade to become fully confident in my skin and I realize that my process included being in the public eye and being a blogger. That was a HUGE piece of my “confidence” pie and while I know everyone can’t go start a blog, I hope these tips can help you figure out your recipe. We all need different things and I share below what my things are and how I own the room.
The holidays can be tough but with a smile on your face and a glow in your soul you can have the best season ever.
Much love
Jessica

Grateful for Quarter 3 and Ready for 2025!! – Fashion Blog SXM

by Lina Clémence July 28, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Hi, beauties! I know it’s been a while since I last wrote, but life has been ‘lifing’! The third quarter of 2024 was a whirlwind of activity with travels to Miami, Atlanta, Curaçao, and Aruba. Each destination was a unique experience, but the mission remained to empower, support, and promote growth for myself and my clients. Through workshops, strategic meetings, or networking, I focused on elevating brands and building meaningful collaborations while expanding my network.

In Miami, I connected with industry leaders and planted seeds for future partnerships. Atlanta introduced me to an incredible network of entrepreneurs, and the warmth there felt so much like the Caribbean! Meanwhile, in Curaçao and Aruba, I strengthened relationships with clients and partners, especially with Islandpreneur. These trips not only refined my leadership and business strategies but also helped uplift those I work with.

Miami, however, proved to be transformative. During a special event, I had the opportunity to meet the global directors of National Curves Day, Inc. Little did I know that this meeting would open doors I hadn’t even imagined, ultimately leading to my appointment as the St. Maarten Ambassador for National Curves Day.

On October 9th, I officially launched my ambassadorship with the ‘Sip & Paint: Love Your Body Edition; representing St. Maarten and the Dutch Caribbean. This journey is a reminder that opportunities come when you least expect them. Through this experience, I’m excited to continue advocating for body positivity and uplifting others through creativity and strategic empowerment.

5 Tips on How to Shop While Losing Weight

by Lina Clémence July 27, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Hey, Y’all!!! I’m back and I hope your week has been going great! My week has been going well so far. I’m trying to stay more positive these days.

Today’s blog will be geared toward my weight loss journey. Being a fashion blogger, of course, I love to shop for new clothes. But while losing weight, I can’t buy a lot of things because I’m not at my goal weight. Right now, I’m currently trying to sell gently worn and new clothing that is too big for me right now and I refuse to make the same mistake. With online research and my personal experience, I will be giving yall some tips that would be helpful if you’re also having the same issue. I hope this will help us in our journey. Let’s get into it.

Tip #1: Edit your wardrobe to see what can be kept or given away.

This tip is very important. If you have a piece of clothing you do not want to part with such as a dress or jacket, you can easily get those tailored to your current size. I have blazers I could have kept and gotten altered, but I made the decision to sell them instead. Make sure to try on items you would love to keep. If not, then either donate or sell it. I love to find new pieces to mix and match with my current wardrobe to give it a new look. I will discuss that shortly.

Tip #2: Buy 2nd hand clothing.

This is one tip that is really helping me on this journey. I love shopping, but I refuse to spend a ton of money on new clothes just to resell them in a couple of months. You can’t go wrong with the pricing. Thrift stores are very inexpensive and I often find a ton of jewels whenever I go. I tend to go thrift shopping every couple of weeks. When it comes to shopping second-hand, you have to be able to see if the item will fit you. Some thrift stores also have dressing rooms if you would like to try them on. I shop at them so frequently I can easily tell if I can wear something or not.

Tip #3 Shop Clearance if possible.

As I mentioned above, you can shop for secondhand clothing. If you don’t like the option, you can also shop clearance at some of your favorite retailers. I love the clearance racks. Whenever stores are making room for upcoming season inventory, a lot of items will go on sale. The closer to the new season it is, the cheaper the prices. I always shop for spring and summer items after the season because the price will go down significantly. Retailers always set up new season inventory 2 seasons ahead of time.

Tip#4: Buy fitting clothes

You can’t always go by the size. As long as it fits comfortably, that’s the goal. Every brand’s sizing is different. Target jeans may differ from Old Navy jeans, I wear a 14 in a certain pair of jeans and a 16 in another, but that’s ok. You wear the clothes. The clothes don’t wear you. You will feel the most confident wearing clothes that fit you right at that moment. Plus, it also motivates you if you desire to wear a smaller size.

Tip #5 Make sure to take measurements when shopping online.

Shopping online while losing weight can be a challenge to some people. Make sure to take your current measurements and compare them to the brand’s measurements. You have to make sure you look at the measurements on every item. Also, check the material. For example, 100& polyester normally don’t have any stretch. If it says 95% polyester and 5% spandex, it does have stretch, Also, online stores will normally have information stating the stretch level in the description section of each clothing item. Paying attention to small details like that will help tremendously.

These are the tips I’ve learned along the way during this journey. They have really helped me out a lot. I have 20 more pounds to go until I reach my goal weight and I look forward to shopping more and building my wardrobe up once again. If yall have any questions, feel free to reach out on here or any of my platforms. I work a 9-5, so be patient with me. I will reply soon as I get a break. This is a journey I’m glad to be on and getting healthy is very important. Until next time fashionistas, LaKedra is out!

by Lina Clémence July 27, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Liberarsi dai pregiudizi e dalle aspettative sociali

by Lina Clémence July 26, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

1. Jeju, l’isola delle emozioni – When Life Gives You Tangerines

2. DMZ, amore e confini – Crash Landing on You

Twilight of Jejudo, K-Drama

Breaking Free from Societal Expectations: America Ferrera’s Empowering Message in the Barbie Movie

by Lina Clémence July 26, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

In the era of body positivity and women empowerment, actress and activist America Ferrera delivered a powerful and thought-provoking speech in the Barbie movie that shed light on the overwhelming expectations placed upon women. With raw honesty and vulnerability, Ferrera tackled the contradictory societal norms that women face every day, sparking a much-needed conversation about the pressures of conforming to unrealistic standards.

The poignant speech begins with a heartbreaking statement, “You are very beautiful and very smart… and it breaks my soul that you think you’re not good enough.” This opening line sets the tone for the discourse on the relentless pursuit of perfection that women are expected to undertake. From body image to career aspirations, Ferrera addressed the numerous double standards that women must navigate.

One of the most poignant aspects Ferrera discussed was the expectation for women to be slim, but not too much, while also promoting a ‘healthy weight.’ The conflicting messages women receive about their bodies perpetuate a toxic cycle of insecurity and self-doubt. Society demands that women maintain a certain appearance, but simultaneously admonishes them for expressing their desire to fit into these standards.

Moreover, Ferrera highlighted the challenges women face in the professional world. Women are encouraged to be assertive leaders, but they are often criticized for being too tough or aggressive when they confidently express their opinions. Striking a delicate balance between being a boss and respecting others’ perspectives can feel like walking on a tightrope.

Ferrera further emphasized the societal pressure on women to excel in multiple roles without faltering. The burden of always taking care of others while pursuing their careers and personal growth can be overwhelming. Women are often held responsible for men’s misbehavior, a deeply unfair notion that perpetuates stereotypes and undermines the idea of individual accountability.

The speech also touched upon the expectations placed on women to maintain their physical appearance, primarily for the gratification of men. However, even here, a paradox is evident, as being too attractive is perceived as a threat to other women and challenges the notion of sisterhood.

The message culminated in Ferrera’s powerful realization that women are expected to be exceptional in every aspect of their lives, yet they rarely receive recognition or appreciation for their efforts. This relentless pursuit of perfection is not only exhausting but ultimately detrimental to women’s mental and emotional well-being.

Ferrera’s speech served as a wake-up call to challenge these societal norms. It encouraged women to embrace their authentic selves and reject the unrealistic expectations placed upon them. By acknowledging the flaws in the system and taking a stand against the impossible standards, Ferrera called for a collective effort to redefine the way society perceives and treats women.

Her message resonated deeply with audiences worldwide, sparking conversations about the importance of self-love, body acceptance, and dismantling gender stereotypes. It urged women to support one another, rather than perpetuating judgment and competition. Ferrera’s call for self-compassion and embracing vulnerability has become a rallying cry for women seeking to break free from the chains of societal expectations.

America Ferrera’s impassioned speech in the Barbie movie shed light on the myriad challenges women face in striving to meet societal expectations. By addressing the contradictions and double standards women encounter daily, Ferrera ignited a movement towards redefining femininity and embracing individuality. Her message encourages women to be authentic, supportive, and unapologetically themselves, challenging the notion that they must continually strive to please others. Through her powerful words, Ferrera’s legacy as an advocate for women’s empowerment and self-love continues to inspire generations to come.

It’s nearly impossible to be a woman”

You are very beautiful and very smart… and it breaks my soul that you think you’re not good enough, like we’re always supposed to be extraordinary, but somehow we’re always doing it wrong.

We have to be skinny, but not too much and you must not say you want to be skinny. You must say you want a healthy weight, but also… YES you have to be skinny.

You must have money, but you can’t ask for money because that would be rude.

You gotta be a boss, but you can’t be tough. You must lead, but you cannot crush other people’s ideas.

You’re supposed to love being a mom, but you don’t talk about your kids all the time.

You have to be a professional, but also always take care of everyone else.

You are responsible for men’s misbehavior, WHICH IS CRAZY, but if you notice that, you’re accused of being a whine.

You’re expected to keep yourself pretty for men, but not so pretty you ‘try them too much’ or threaten other women… because you’re supposed to be part of the sorority.

You must always stand out and always be very grateful… but never forget the system is fixed, so find how to acknowledge it but remember to be grateful.

You must never grow old, never be rude, never show off, never be selfish, never stumble, never fail or show fear and, of course, you must never be sassy.

It’s very hard, it’s too contradictory and nobody gives you a medal or says thank you. And it turns out, in fact, that not only are you doing everything WRONG, but also, everything that happens is YOUR FAULT.

I’m tired of seeing myself and every woman doing the impossible for others to love us.”

– America Ferrera as Gloria
