The Life of the Plus Size Fashion Girl

Where have you been?

So I feel like I have some explaining to do.

The last time I posted, I was celebrating my 33rd birthday. And while everything seemed to be going in a GREAT direction, I was suffering in silence. But guess what y’all?

Ya girl is back. I feel like the same plus-size fashion girl I fell in love with. I am feeling better and… you know what, let me talk about what the last year was like for me.

Exactly a year ago today, I took on a new job working for the City. I am a Black Girl in Tech, to be exact. I took on the role of the Digital Marketing Coordinator for the Department of Innovation and Technology. I honestly thought this was my dream– and don’t get me wrong, I love my colleagues, my job, and the City of Boston.

However, after joining my department’s DEIA Committee, I realized I was destined for something different. After holding leadership positions on both the Black Employee Network and Women’s ERG, taking two leadership cohorts sponsored by the City of Boston, and facilitating conversations/negotiations for the DEIA Committee, I realized that I wanted to be in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

I’ve actually never felt so passionate about a career path. Every day I find that I advocate for DEI in my home, content creation, and work life. It’s wild but AMAZING.

In fact, I applied for a couple positions, for the City of Boston, in DEI. I wasn’t successful in landing the positions, but it actually gave me more trajectory. It gave me the fire I needed to figure out what works for me. My therapist, family, and boyfriend have been so dope in helping me navigate this carefully. This brings me to #2. BOYFRIEND.

I know, crazy! I said the B-word. In all my years of blogging, I never spoke about a boyfriend. Maybe long situationships and guys I met on the plus size fashion scene, but never really a whole committed person. I am in love y’all. A healthy, non-obsessive, and growing love. I am still trying to figure out how much I want to share about him, but here are the deets I am comfortable sharing:

  1. His name is Jamie and he was born in Kingston, Jamaica.
  2. He’s a comedian based out of Cape Cod. He’s funny on and off stage.
  3. He’s a Registered Nurse and works in Finance.
  4. I think he’s the love of my many lives. Not many secrets between us. We rarely fight and learned how to talk things out.
  5. I met him the old-fashioned way: Hinge. The same day I decided to end an on-and-off 5-year situationship, I reached out to the last person I spoke to on Hinge and he drove to Boston to meet me the same night. It’s wild.

Want to make God laugh? Tell Him your plans. Two years ago, I was resolute in the belief that I would be with someone else and eventually move to NY. God whispered, “Dream Bigger.”

I was always hesitant to share this, but I’ve always been candid with you. This time won’t be any different. In the Summer of 2021, my hip gave out while on vacation in St. Lucia. It was pretty painful, but I tried to push through. I kept attending my gym sessions with Naldine and working on my health outcomes. Then one morning in November, I couldn’t move. I literally couldn’t get up to go to my personal training session. My doctor told me that I had to stop working and that I should start regular PT sessions to strengthen my hip.

My joints worsened. At this point, I was seeing my Primary Care Doctor, Weight and Wellness Center, Rheumatologist, and Orthopedic Doctor. I was diagnosed with a genetic arthritic condition greatly impacted by lifestyle choices (food, drinking, and working out), genetics, and weight. I was 350ish pounds. The constant running and lifting on already weakened joints were causing my body so much pain.

And to avoid a hip replacement in the next three years, WE decided that Gastric Sleeve Weight Loss Surgery would be the best route for me to safely remove the weight off my joints, drastically change my eating habits (without falling back into old habits) and put me on a path to strengthening my joints safely.

It has been 8 months since my surgery, I’ve lost 100lbs, I’ve been cleared to work out, and my health outcomes have changed. No more CPAP machine, minimal to NO pain in my knees/hips, I have so much energy, I started personal training again (and I don’t dread it), and I am FAMILY PLANNING! I am really looking at the possibility of being a mom. I can’t believe that.

I am going to dedicate a whole other post to this process and my feelings during this time. This process hasn’t been all PERFECT, but I do not regret my decision.

The Content, Sis! What About the Content?

It’s crazy that I started off as a girl who was just obsessed with plus size fashion. Now, I feel like I’ve ventured off into sharing all things Chardline. I’ve been so open on Instagram about my dating life, health journey, mental health, family, etc. Now, I am going to open up on my blog.

There are so many things I can’t wait to “journal” about on here. Truthfully, so many creators have abandoned their websites, myself included. But honestly, this is the only place where I feel my safest.

So here is two ONE POST A week. Just one for now. I am working at it and can’t wait to start my give-a-ways again!

Thanks for always rocking with me!

Until next time!

Char.

Plus Size Holiday Style ft. Lane Bryant

by Lina Clémence July 9, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

The holidays are always a toss-up for me. On the one hand, I love the decor, Christmas events, frivolity, and plus size holiday style. But on the other hand, it reminds me of all the family and friends who are no longer with me during the holidays. This is why I always do something special to brighten up my mood during the holidays.

Last week, me and my girls got together and dressed up in Lane Bryant’s latest picks for the season. Plus Size holiday style went up by 1000 points this year. It’s so awesome to see more bold and bright styling for us plus size girl.

I reached out to my friend Arlyn to snap a few pictures for us. We met up at one of our favorite creator places in Boston, and voila! We made memories while dancing to Mariah Carey, Kelly Clarkson, and R&B Christmas songs.

It was perfect. I honestly think this is going to be a common practice for me. Maybe once every three months. But for now, check out our looks!

Kate Spade Plus Sizes? Thanks ELOQUII!

Today, plus size brand ELOQUII launched a collaboration with Kate Spade! I have always been a fan of the vibrant colors and bold patterns that Kate Spade offers, but never have had an opportunity to try their clothes because their sizes only go to a 16. Like most designer brands, plus size people have been relegated to only shopping the accessories and jewelry sections.

Kate Spade Plus Sizes? Thanks ELOQUII! 1

This collection is limited edition and designed for holiday festivities. Available in sizes 14-28, these 12 pieces are true to the Kate Spade aesthetic.

Plus size collection from designer Kate Spade at ELOQUII.

My reaction to this collection was the same as it usually is for anything that’s limited edition and hasn’t been available in my size before: I ordered almost all of it. I hate this scarcity mindset when it comes to plus size clothes, but there have been so many times I wanted an item and it sold out and then I was never able to find anything like it again. We get so few crumbs that it’s hard to break that cycle. I wish these styles were available to try on in-store so we didn’t have to purchase so much (often in multiple sizes because things sell out so quickly and exchanging isn’t an option) and then pay to return it.

Nevertheless, I’m so excited for these styles and hope that the quality matches the designer prices.

Are you going to shop this collection? Let me know what you think!

It’s been eons since I’ve done a full style post outside of my house! So today, we’re taking it back old school so I can show you some plus size holiday style ideas from Lane Bryant.

Bracelet-Sleeve Button-Front Blouse
Twisted Pearlized & Goldtone Hoop Earrings
Boyfriend Fit denim

There’s nothing more classic for the holidays than a red tartan plaid. This dress screams “festive!” and paired with this stunning red coat, you’re ready for any holiday occasion. The coat looks stunning with even the most basic of outfits – you’ll see me out in it this winter with denim and a turtleneck.

Red Wool Blend Long Coat
Cap-Sleeve Fit & Flare Midi Plaid Dress
Mary Jane Heels
Necklace

The dress would also look cute with a belt. Plus, it has pockets (a must.)

I’ve never been a big flannel shirt wearer, but this flannel dress is so great for dressing up or down. It is supremely comfortable while still being holiday-appropriate for so many occasions. I paired it with some wide width velvet flats, but it could easily be styled more casually with sneakers and a denim jacket.

Lurex Shimmer Flannel Midi Dress
Embellished Velvet Flats

Plus Size Holiday Style with Lane Bryant 6

As an elder millennial, it feels against my religion to wear anything other than skinny jeans. Still, I’m trying to get with the times and these boyfriend fit jeans were a surprise win. This popover top is also available in a red plaid, but I loved the green and navy contrast. I paired it with wide width Chelsea boots that have a very walkable stacked heel.

Boyfriend Fit Jean
Chelsea Ankle Boot

Are you holiday shopping yet, or are you waiting for a few more weeks? There are no wrong answers!

It’s sort of ironic that my favorite room in my house isn’t a room that I spend a lot of time in. Don’t get me wrong, I’m kind of obsessed with most of my home. But there’s just something about this room that melt’s my heart. In part, it’s the most “normal” of the bedrooms in my place, my primary is oddly large and much more challenging to cozy up. But this room came together so seamlessly and brings me so much joy.

I love taking care of my people and since my family lives so far away from me, having a dedicated space put together with so much loves makes welcoming them such a joy. It’s also great for friends who pop into town and being able to spend time and connect after such a wild year of being locked away alone.

I had a really beautiful bed from Arhaus in the guest room of my last place and it was amazing and comfy, I’m still using their impeccable mattress in this space but when this vintage Rougier bed with matching nightstands popped up, I had literally no choice. I honestly wish it was a king size frame because it 100% would have gone into my room, ha! The other side of the room is still being tinkered with but I have a pair of incredible drawers from Popup Home and I wasn’t sure how it was all going to pull together but the rug – this rug changed the game.

I found it on Benisouk, a fabulous resource for vintage Moroccan rugs. Once the rug was down I could see perfectly how things were going to play out. The paintings above the bed are by me – yes, I started painting this year and am having an absolute blast.

I found the bedside lamps at a thrift store in Palm Springs for $17, I know! The epic lighting above the bed is from Lulu and Georgia – they have really great high quality pieces that mix well with a vintage aesthetic.

All in all, my guest room brings me joy because I love what I was able to create for people I care about and it looks super cool.

Currently Coveting – Simply Be.

by Lina Clémence July 6, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Wrap Dress with Shorts – Simply Be.
I’ve been lusting over this since I first saw it at the beginning of May and naturally when I decide throw caution to the wind (and my poor bank account) to treat myself for my Birthday it’s sold out in the 2 sizes I fluctuate between. For most people that would be the end of that but for me I’m hoping to set aside a little bit of ‘me’ sewing time to knock up a fabulous 2 piece inspired by this!
It won’t be in the same colour way or probably even the same shape, perks of patterning and drafting your own designs is having blocks in a true plus size at your disposal! I do have a lovely fabric in mind for this that is waiting on my unit shelf to be made into something perfect and summery!
If you could make the one garment of clothing you’d love what would it be?

Evita! – Endellion Theatre Company April 2018

by Lina Clémence July 6, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

At the end of March I started working on Endellion’s production of Evita which took place in a church (the scale of staging was insane, I have never seen anything quite like it!) A vast majority of the costumes had arrived prior to me joining the team due to prior commitments and illness on my part. It was indeed a crazy few weeks with a lot of tears and self doubt but I came out the other side having learnt a lot about myself and what I can handle. I also made some amazing friends from backstage crew to the fabulous cast we had, I was extremely lucky to work with so many talented people in one place and mostly ones that were on the same wave length as me.

My title for this job was Costume Supervisor and I worked on the menswear department.

Below a selection of the wonderful men who I was in charge of! Full uniforms hired from Flame Costumiers half military a mixture of Loft Costume Hire and sourced braces and granddad shirts by me. The womens department was full of pretty dresses, all the accessories you can imagine and some fabulous hat but I have to admit I love working with a group of guys probably because I’m the least ladylike person imaginable and just get stuck in.

Wig setting not done by me! Done by the amazing John Cumberlidge who is the reason I got into theatrical wig work! However I was his assistant from 5.30pm until 7pm each show night to wrap the ladies hair in preparation for wigs after this I would then style the hair of the female cast who weren’t wearing wigs and also set some of the mens as well!

The perfect plus size cottagecore dress – A Curious Fancy

by Lina Clémence July 5, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Wearing ✶ Old puff sleeve cotton maxi dress from Primark (similar here) ✶ My starry wedding crown (broke it out after 4 years!) ✶ Olli Ella Toadstool basket ✶ Seasalt fisherman sandals (not pictured)

When I saw on Instagram a few weeks ago that the woods at Wallington (where we shot the snowdrops early in March) had burst into wood anemones, we had to drive down for some photos! The day dawned hot and sunny and we made cucumber, tomato and cheese sandwiches for a picnic lunch amidst these magical, starry flowers. But of course the weather turned just as we were leaving the house, and by the time we got there the clouds were brooding and rain was imminent. We quickly snapped a few photos while Lila grumbled in her pram, and then we all sat in the car, eating squished lunchbox sandwiches in the pouring rain. All things considered, it was a very British holiday sort of day out for us!

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll probably have seen me wearing this dress a few times before – especially on the moors that time when the heather was in full bloom. For a £20 dress from Primark two years ago, this has actually been worn a lot more than most things in my wardrobe. I consider a puff sleeved white cotton dress to be a staple of a cottagecore wardrobe, and the frequency with which I wear this dress is proof enough! While I tend not to be too formulaic with wardrobe staples – you’ll never find me saying that a specific piece of clothing is an absolute necessity for achieving a certain look – I find that a floaty white cotton dress with puff sleeves forms a solid backbone on which multiple cottagecore outfits can be constructed. With this in mind, I’ve linked to a selection of plus size white cotton dresses in the widget below to accommodate a range of sizes and budgets. You really can’t go wrong with a timeless little white dress!
