Braids & Hairstyles for Super Long Hair: Double Rope Braid Bun

by Lina Clémence August 1, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Hello dear friends and a belated Happy New Year 🙂

I love being married to the love of my life!  I’ve been busy getting settled in to my new home, so I haven’t posted much as you probably noticed.  But once again I will try to start posting more often.

A few days ago I braided my hair in this pretty bun style.  My bun is actually two rope braids braided together in another rope braid, so a double rope braid 🙂

Thank you for coming by to see my pictures!  I’m living in the middle of snow right now, so I’ll see how I adjust my hair care to this new climate.  So far I’ve been able to stretch out my washes to once a week, and I’m putting monoi oil and coconut oil on the ends of my hair during the week.  It helps keep the static down and also keeps my ends hydrated.

See you again later, thank you for visiting my blog!

3 Halloween Costume/Cosplay Ideas for Black Women with Blonde Box Braids

by Lina Clémence July 14, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

2.1K

I am a HUGE fan of taking a “Black” spin on beloved media characters, whether it’s for Halloween or cosplay in general. And for me, this usually means using different coloured box braids over wig or just leaving my natural hair colour.

Back in 2021 I had the INCREDIBLY fun honour of partnering with Pinterest to bring some Halloween costume ideas to life, and I since I ended up capturing way more content than was needed… I thought I’d share more photos here, as well as some recommendations on how to make them yourself!

Full outfit breakdowns to come of each individual costume.

3 Costume Ideas for Black women with Blonde Box Braids

When brainstorming what to be for halloween this year, I started by looking for characters with blonde hair–for the sole reason that I already had golden blonde box braids in.

So here is what I came up with:

1. Rapunzel

This one was a no-brainer. The moment I put in my blonde boxbraids, I knew I wanted to try to do a halloween costume inspired by Disney’s Rapunzel.

Like is there any better concept for long thick box braids?

I ordered the dress and corset from SHEIN (boo, I know.. this is before I knew better). And ran to the dollar store to pick out a varied selection of fake flowers to stick in my hair.

It’s funny, when I debuted this costume on TikTok people either…

Came at me for being… racist?

Or critiqued the fact that I was wearing the corset backwards… but Rapunzel in the movie has her ties in the front.. so I was just trying to emulate that the best I could.

I probably could have tied it better, but still. 😐

2. Sailor Venus

A second no-brainer for me was dressing up as Sailor Venus… although it was a tie between her and Sailor Moon. In fact, it’s my goal to work my way through cosplaying all of the Sailor Scouts

This costume, I was quite proud of because I made most of it from scratch.

Items I purchased to bring this to life:

What I DIYed:

  • The Tiara made out of thick stock paper, Gold letter cut outs, and a plastic gems
  • Skirt and the cape (…Is it a cape?), using some shiny satin fabric I purchased at Michaels.
    • Skirt Instructions HERE (though I just safety pinned it together here).
    • Cape Instructions HERE
  • Love Chain, using red and gold beads from Michaels.

I didn’t take many pictures of the back, but you can see how I styled my box braids below, and a little tiny peek of the yellow bow.

3. Tinkerbell

Or… Mother Nature…. or Princess Tiana with Blonde Hair….

This costume was admittedly VERY low effort. I got the dress off SHEIN again, tied up my hair in a large bun, threw on a green head wrap to add a bit more *flavour*… and was good to go.

If I had been able to find some wings, I think the vision would have been much clearer…Because as it stood, no one really knew who I was trying to be. It’s giving a bit more of a Disney-Bounding vibe, more than anything.

But luckily we have Photoshop AI to help us out.. okay maybe AI has a ways to go…

Final Thoughts on my Blonde Box Braid Halloween Costumes

Did this help you gather any inspiration for your next Halloween costume or maybe your venture into cosplay?

I’m always on the hunt for good ideas for the future, so drop your recommendations below! Or perhaps, recommend a box braid colour, and I’ll see what costumes I can come up with!

Bandables Twisty Braids Headband Review and Tutorial | Hairstyles For Girls

by Lina Clémence June 28, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Today we are testing the “bandables twisty braids headband” by Localoc.  We saw this at our local Walmart and thought it looked cute and fun to try.

We are always looking for easy hairstyles for school mornings and thought it would be perfect for those days when you need a 5 minute hairstyle. (Which is pretty much every school morning at our house!)

This would also be a great accessory for 2nd or 3rd day hair, to help disguise when it’s looking slightly greasy. For those of you who are growing out your bangs, this would be fabulous as well!

Review and Tutorial Video: (Click here to watch this hairstyle video directly on YouTube.)

We liked that the little hair elastics on this headband held her hair back quite tightly without pulling or clamping her hair.  We’ve tried similar options in the past (with barrettes or clips attached to the headband) and it seems like you need exactly the right amount of hair to make those work. We’ve had trouble with the hair being too thick to clip the barrettes shut, or the hair being too thin and sliding right out.  So, the elastics are a great option that will accommodate all different hair textures and thickness.

There are many different hairstyles that can be created using this headband.  We have shown just a few basic ideas in this video:

A half up twist.

Cute and easy half up hairstyle for school using twisty braids headband.

 A ponytail.

Easy 5 minute ponytail hairstyle for school with twisty braids headband.

If you play sports, I think this would be a nice option for keeping your hair out of your face.  You could add a ponytail, bun, or braid and be ready to go.

I think this would look really cute with curled, wavy, or crimped hair as well as straight.  This would also be perfect for short hair, as well as long. So fun!

We unfortunately were not able to find this available to purchase online yet… I think it is too new.  Here are some similar headbands on Amazon, but none with the elastics yet:

Headband 1, Headband 2, Headband 3. You might have better luck finding this at your local drugstore or retailer.

Bailey’s Mini Fishtail Braids | DIY Bandana Hairstyle for Short Hair

by Lina Clémence June 23, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Any of you short-haired people out there will know the struggle when it comes to creating cute braids on your hair! Sometimes it seems like there just isn’t enough hair to do much, especially with braids.

Today I’m going to show you a step-by-step DIY tutorial on just how my daughter Bailey achieves this cute bandana look with some Tips & Tricks for those extra short strands of hair! I’m honestly so glad that bandanas are coming back on trend! They’re SO cute, and can really change up a look! You can find bandanas in most craft stores, online, or any craft section of a superstore. They’re inexpensive, so you might as well grab one in every color! Let’s get started!

Items Needed: hair elastics (texture powder, hairspray, dry shampoo if desired)

Time Requirement: 15-20 minutes

Skill Level: Easy/Medium

DIY Bandana Hairstyle for Short Hair

  • Place the bandana right along the hairline, and pull all of your hair behind it. Secure with a knot at the base of your neck.

  • Pull the bandana back to where you can start to see the hair on the hairline. Pull out 2 small pieces of hair from either side of the part to frame the face.

  • Split all of the hair into 2 main sections.

  • Starting with the right section of hair, separate that section into 2 sections.

  • Take a small piece of hair from the left section, cross it over the left section, and add that small piece into the right section of hair.

  • Take a small piece of hair from the right section, cross it over the right section, and add that small piece into the left section of hair.

  • Repeat step 5-6 until you reach the bottom of the hair (or until you run out of pieces that are long enough to braid. Secure with an elastic.

  • Repeat steps 4-7 on the left section of hair.

  • Pancake the braids to fluff them up if you want to age up the look, top with hairspray if you’d like. Tweak accordingly. Done!

written by Lina Clémence

Hello dear friends,

It has been much too long since I posted on my blog, but I have a very good reason for being preoccupied.  Two reasons, actually~ I’m a happy newlywed (married 5 months now!), and another reason that I am having trouble keeping a secret…see if you can spot what it might be in the pictures below.

My hairstyle today is a simple princess updo made with two lace braids and a braided bun.  I love this look, it dresses up any day and any occasion.

Braids & Hairstyles for Super Long Hair: Long Dutch Braid

by Lina Clémence June 5, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Hello friends,

My, how life can change so quickly!  I’m so very happy and thankful for all God is doing in my life.  Finally I have some new hair pictures to share with you here on my blog 🙂  This is a Dutch braid I did a few days ago, I tied up the ends similar to how my Micronesian friends do in the islands.  This is another option to end a braid, rather than a tassel like I usually do.  Thank you for visiting my blog!

     By the way………baby is a girl <3 <3 <3
