7 Festive Cocktails to Get You in the Merry Mood this Christmas

by Lina Clémence July 10, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

This is a guest post from The Mixer – your one-stop destination to discover drinkspiration for every occasion. From delicious recipes with expert tips to trendy new serves and ideas, The Mixer encourages connectivity and good times, whether you’re new to hosting or a cocktail pro!

As the nights draw in and our thoughts turn to the holiday season, bring on the festive feels with these delicious Christmas cocktails. These delicious drinks capture all the seasonal flavours and are perfect for getting cosy and merry with your loved ones. Bottoms up!

Christmas Negroni

The Negroni keeps making waves in the cocktail scene (yep, we’re looking at you, House of the Dragon fans), and we predict that the Christmas Negroni will be the next big thing this festive season. To make one, you’ll use the original Negroni recipe but add some festive flair by making your own Christmas-infused gin and using winter spice garnishes.

Ingredients (per person)

  • 1 Oz Campari
  • 1 Oz Christmas-infused gin (recipe below)
  • 1 Oz Cinzano Vermouth Rosso
  • Orange peel to garnish
  • Cinnamon stick, star anise and fresh bay leaf to garnish
  • Ice

Method

1. Pour the Campari, infused gin and vermouth into an ice filled mixing glass

2. Stir until ice cold (about 30 seconds)

3.  Strain into a chilled rocks glass over a large ice cube or sphere

4. Twist an orange peel over the Negroni to release its oil and add it to the drink

5.  Garnish with cinnamon stick, star anise and a fresh bay leaf

How to make festive gin

To make your infused gin, grab your favourite gin and pour out a drink for yourself and a friend to make some space in the bottle to add the spices. Next, toast 2 cinnamon sticks, 2 star anise pods, 5 cloves, a teaspoon of black peppercorns, and 3 fresh bay leaves in a dry pan until fragrant. Transfer into a pestle and mortar and crush roughly. Add the spices to your ¾ bottle of gin, seal, and give it a good shake. Leave overnight – or for up to 3 days in a dark space – to infuse. Strain into a pitcher using a cheesecloth or coffee filter to remove the spice bits. Pour the gin back into the bottle, and voila!

Jack Frost

Jack Frost is famous in folklore all over the world. In adult land, however, he is a mischievous frozen blue drink that spreads festive cheer. This is one of those fun alcoholic drinks for Christmas that will make your family and friends forget about the freezing temperatures outside while warming them up with a taste of the tropics inside. All you need is vodka or rum, pineapple juice, Blue Curaçao, coconut cream, corn syrup, ice, a decent blender, and your favourite people to share it with.

Ingredients (per person)

  • 1 Oz Vodka or White Rum
  • 1 Oz Blue Curaçao
  • 2 Oz Pineapple juice
  • 1 Oz Cream of coconut
  • Ice
  • Light golden syrup and shredded coconut to rim the glass

Method

  1. Take two plates then pour some light golden syrup onto one, and sprinkle shredded coconut flakes onto the other
  2. Dip the rim of your glass into first the golden syrup and then the coconut and set aside
  3. Add ice to the blender along with vodka or rum, Blue Curaçao, pineapple juice and cream of coconut
  4. Blitz until smooth and frosty
  5. Pour the frozen mixture into your prepared glass, pop in a straw and serve

Eggnog Martini

A hands-down number one hit and family favourite at Christmas is eggnog. But what happens if you skip the rum, add a vanilla vodka and amaretto twist, shake it up and strain it into a glass? The Eggnog Martini, that’s what, and it’s epic! As far as best vodka Christmas cocktails go, this one is packed with sweet and indulgent holiday cheer. You absolutely have to try it.

Ingredients (per person)

  • 1.5 Oz Vanilla Vodka
  • 0.5 Oz Amaretto
  • 2 Oz Eggnog
  • Ice
  • Chocolate shavings, simple syrup, and cinnamon sugar to garnish

Method

  1. Pour a dash of simple syrup onto one plate and cinnamon sugar onto another
  2. Dip the rim of the martini glass into the syrup and then the cinnamon sugar and set aside
  3. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice
  4. Add the vodka, amaretto liqueur and eggnog
  5. Give it a good shake until chilled and creamy
  6. Strain into a prepared martini glass, sprinkle over chocolate shavings and serve

Hot Toddy

Sip on a Hot Toddy cocktail for a drink to soothe your soul after a long (long) day of family and Christmas activity chaos. It’s the ideal drink to enjoy slowly for that fireplace feeling. Also, it will be just what you need if you feel yourself morphing into the Grinch about to steal Christmas gifts from sugared-up children. It’s in our book of easy winter cocktails, and you can customise it with your favourite alcohol and flavourings.

Ingredients (per person)

  • 2 Oz Bourbon Whiskey
  • 0.5 Oz Fresh lemon juice
  • 2 Teaspoons brown sugar
  • 5 Cloves
  • Sliced lemon
  • Boiling water

Method

  1. Take a slice of lemon, press the cloves into the lemon round and set aside
  2. Boil water and fill a mug to the three-quarter mark
  3. Pour in the whiskey and lemon juice and stir in the sugar until dissolved
  4. Serve in a warmed mug

Winter Manhattan

Spice up your Christmas-themed cocktails with a Winter Manhattan. To make these, you simply stir up three ingredients: whiskey, sweet vermouth, and apple sours. Like almost any cocktail, there are variations, including the festive Mistletoe Manhattan that calls for cherry juice, sugared cranberries, and rosemary, or a less sour version using bourbon, bitters, and sweet vermouth. We suggest testing a few options and choosing your favourite.

Ingredients (per person)

  • 1.5 Oz Bourbon
  • 0.5 Oz Sour Apple Liqueur
  • 0.5 Oz Sweet Vermouth
  • To garnish a twist of lemon peel (optional)
  • Ice

Method

  1. Pour all ingredients into a mason jar or cocktail shaker and fill with ice
  2. Stir until completely chilled
  3. Strain into chilled cocktail or martini glass
  4. Garnish with a twist of lemon and enjoy

Pomegranate Martini

There are so many different types of Martinis to taste, try and shake up, but the pretty Pomegranate Martini has a special place in our hearts because it’s so extremely photogenic. It’s also a very approachable drink, much closer in taste to a Cosmopolitan than a classic Martini. Sweetly tart, fruity and light, it’s easy to whip up (even in batches), and adds a hint of sophistication to just about any gathering.

Ingredients (per person)

  • 0.5 Oz  Vodka
  • 0.5 Oz  100% pomegranate juice (purchased or fresh squeezed)
  • 0.25 Oz Grand Marnier
  • 0.25 Oz lemon juice
  • 0.25 Oz simple syrup or maple syrup
  • Lemon peel to garnish
  • Ice

Method

  1. Place the vodka, pomegranate juice, triple sec, lemon juice, and syrup in a cocktail shaker with ice
  2. Shake 15 seconds until cold
  3. Strain the drink into a cocktail or martini glass
  4. Use a knife to remove a 1″ wide strip of the lemon peel
  5. Squeeze the lemon peel into the drink to release the oils
  6. Gently run the peel around the edge of the glass, place it in the glass and serve
  7. Garnish alternative: You can also add some pomegranate seeds to the bottom of your cocktail glass for an extra-special serve.

Bourbon Apple Cider

This spiced cocktail is exactly what you need to warm up on a cold night. To get those cheeks glowing, you’ll need bourbon, apple cider, vermouth and bitters. Serve your Bourbon Apple Cider over ice with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and a sprig of thyme. This is a full-flavour cocktail, and the sourness of the lemon balances beautifully with the sweet notes of caramel, vanilla and apple. How do you like them apples? Because, quite frankly, we’re a little obsessed.

Ingredients (for 2 people)

  • 1 Oz of Wild Turkey Bourbon Whiskey
  • 1 Oz of apple cider
  • 1 Oz of Cinzano Vermouth Rosso
  • 1 Oz of lemon juice
  • 1 Oz of orange bitters
  • Apple slices to garnish
  • A sprig of thyme to garnish
  • Ice

Method

1.     Add ice to a large mixing glass or cocktail shaker

2.     Pour in the bourbon, cider, sweet vermouth, lemon juice and bitters

3.     Stir until chilled (about 30 seconds)

4.     Strain into any cocktail glass of your choice

5.     Garnish with a few apple slices and a sprig of thyme

Sustainable Christmas Decorations – The Green Edition

by Lina Clémence July 3, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Christmas time means Christmas decorations, and nowadays, we want them to be sustainable. Read more for tips on finding the best sustainable Christmas decorations!

How to decorate sustainably for Christmas

Buying lots of plastic decorations is wasteful, especially since they’re only used for a few weeks each year. If you remember just one thing, focus on natural decor elements instead. This doesn’t mean fewer options—once you start exploring more natural alternatives, plastic decorations start to look cheap and tacky, even though they’re often expensive.

How to decorate with natural elements for Christmas

Using branches, twigs, pinecones, and berries from your garden is a great place to start. They make beautiful garlands for the fireplace or can be arranged in vases for winter decor. If foraging isn’t your style, florists often sell pre-made arrangements. Adding oranges, pomegranates, nuts or even biscuits to displays looks inviting and smells amazing. For more inspiration, check out this post from Milli Proust.

Christmas markets usually feature stalls with wreaths, which can be used to decorate a door or table. Bloom & Wild offers a lovely selection of Christmas wreaths and floral arrangements. A poinsettia is another sustainable way to bring cheer—check where it’s grown, as it’s often locally sourced. Other bits found in the garden or the local park are pinecones, acorns and small twiggy bits. Arrange them in a bowl or scatter them over a table for an easy festive look. Oranges, arranged in a bowl or cut into slices and dried in the oven, are a great sustainable alternative to plastic baubles.

An orange garland

To make an orange slice garland, slice oranges and stud with cloves, drying in the oven. Once dried, thread a thin piece of twine or string through the center of each slice. To add extra texture and fragrance, attach small cinnamon sticks between the orange slices by tying them with the same string. You can also add dried star anise or pine cones for more variety. The garland can be draped over the fireplace, hung around the tree, or placed on the wall. The garland will last for years if placed in a cool, dry box for the rest of the year.

These baubles are cinnamon, orange slices, pinecones, and acorns, which would look lovely on the tree. They would be pretty easy to make at home, too. Snowflakes are another idea to make at home. This Martha Stewart guide helps with the perfect snowflake. You can also buy them already perfectly shaped from Etsy.

The tree in the image is an olive tree from the garden I took inside and decorated as a Christmas tree. It looked as festive as a traditional tree. Another sustainable option is buying or renting a potted tree with the roots attached. It can be replanted if it’s not left inside too long—they prefer the outdoors after a while! If you choose an artificial tree, using the same one each year is far less wasteful than buying a new one.

Gingerbread

Making a gingerbread house is a fun way to add festive cheer to the home. Gingerbread house-making kits are available in most supermarkets now, but it is easy to do it without the kit. This post explains it step by step: make a gingerbread mix, roll it out flat, cut it into squares and bake. After the gingerbread pieces are cooled down, stick them together with icing before decorating.

Traditional gingerbread cookies are also a sustainable way to decorate for Christmas and make the house smell lovely. Store them in an old Christmas tin from last year or these festive ones from Søstrene Grene. Other food bits such as Christmas cake, nuts, dried berries, pomegranates, tangerines, and rosehips look great as decor.

Candles

Lighting a candle in the evenings is one of the best things about Christmas. Advent candles are lovely; light them every day in December in the run up to Christmas. Ethical candles with fragrances of clove, cinnamon and pine are especially festive. For more sustainable candles, check out Organic Candles – Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Beeswax, Soy and Rapeseed.

Where to buy sustainable Christmas decorations

Another sustainable way to decorate for Christmas is to buy just one new decoration each year. Over time, you’ll build a core collection, and adding only one item annually can keep things fresh while avoiding impulse purchases.

The felted wreath is from Green Tulip. It is produced in Nepal using wool, water, and organic dyes. Toast has many sustainable Christmas decorations, including the handblown green, brown, and clear glass baubles in the images. Hanging paper stars and snowflakes look lovely at Christmas, especially made with FSC-certified paper. They can be reused for years and eventually biodegrade after they are no longer needed. This hanging star would look lovely as part of a display.

Although they are not decorations, these cute cutout little angel faces can be added to cards or decor. Christmas photo props are my new favourite thing. They are fun when the guests come over and look great on the coffee table.

More sustainable decorations

I honestly can’t decide if I like this. It’s a popup Christmas tree made from cork and recycled plastic found on the beach, which is a brilliant plan in theory! Ferm Living have beautiful decorations; I especially like these rattan braided bell baubles. They also have advent candles and lovely Christmas homeware. The Danes have a super sustainable selection of beautiful Christmas decorations. The bright red honeycomb tissue decoration is a showpiece. It’s made to order by a family company that sources its materials from independent companies. This honeycomb garland reminds me of Christmas decorations from the ’80s. The garland is handmade, fairtrade, and made in Nepal. For more honeycomb decorations, try the V&A. The suffragette hanging decoration is handcrafted in Thailand and India.

25 Things You Could Be Doing Instead Of Shopping – Winter Edition

What’s the most sustainable Christmas tree option?

The most sustainable tree is one you already have in the garden. Keep it in a pot all year and take it inside to decorate in December before putting it back into the garden in January. Another option is to buy a potted Christmas tree with the roots still attached and replant it again in January. It’s also possible to rent a tree, so someone else can replant it. If you choose an artificial tree, reusing it yearly is the best way to reduce waste.

15 Ways to Get Your Camembert Fix This Christmas

by Lina Clémence June 19, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Christmas won’t be Christmas without any camembert, or so the famous first line in Little Women goes…

This gorgeously gooey baked cheese is a dinner party classic, and for good reason! Whether it’s served as a mini-fondue on a grazing board ready for guests to tuck in with hunks of toasted sourdough, an elite starter flavoured with fresh rosemary and garlic, or the star in show of a picky bits tea, this humble cheese can take the most vanilla of dinner plans and transform them into a festive feast.

If you’re looking for a way to reinvent the camembert wheel this Christmas, then you’ve landed in the right place because CheeseTok has been good to us this year, inspiring creative recipes aplenty. From truffle-flavoured creations to pigs in blankets pasta wheels and cranberry and camembert pastry twists, consider this the only inspo you need to make sure you take the crown for hostess with the mostest this Christmas.

Baked Camembert With Honey & Chilli

A classic throw-in-the-oven, minimal effort dish is a busy hostess’s best friend, and this chilli and honey baked camembert is as 10/10 delicious as it is easy. Simply score your camembert, add some sprigs of rosemary and drizzle with honey and chilli flakes before baking, and prepare to wow. Serve with toasted sourdough, crackers or a slice of fluffy focaccia and enjoy the most moreish starter you’ll be thinking about for days afterwards. Find the recipe on Lindsey’s website here.

Camembert Sandwich

The sandwich of all sandwiches, consider this the most elite lunch choice you can make throughout the festive season. Melted between a toasted crusty loaf or bagel, this summery take on a Christmas classic features strawberries, blueberries and a generous drizzle of balsamic glaze that’s sure to have your tastebuds dancing.

Caramelised Camembert Potato Fondue

If there were two things in this world that we simply never tire of, let it be known it’s cheese and potatoes. This god tier recipe is one that combines the best bits of both, with a base of caramelised onions and creamy mash, topped with half a camembert, sprigs of rosemary, cloves of garlic and a drizzle of honey for the perfect mix of sweetness and tanginess. A guaranteed crowd-pleaser, make sure it’s placed at your end of the table at dinner…

Truffle Baked Camembert Cheese

Elevate your camembert with a shaved truffle finish (*chef’s kiss*) and the most elite means of taking a traditional Christmas starter from predictable to perfection. Made all the better by the addition of a generous portion of confit garlic, this dish is one of few ingredients but guaranteed to have your guests requesting it time and time again.

Camembert Spaghetti

Two words. Camembert Spaghetti- we’re sold. Once again made all the more delicious by the addition of copious amounts of garlic, this creamy spaghetti dish is comfort food central and one that’s perfect for December when your fridge is packed with an eclectic mix of ingredients that don’t exactly make a cohesive meal. With minimal ingredients, this pasta dish feels like a step up from your go-to pesto pasta with all the same comforting qualities. Midweek dinners just got all the more delicious.

Camembert Croissant Sandwich

Sweet and savoury marry perfectly in this croissant sandwich, stepping up from the classic cheddar and ham filling with a combination that’s sure to become a staple of your festive brunch menus. With a generous jam base, melted camembert middle and chopped walnut topping, the mix of textures and flavours elevate this breakfast choice and make it the perfect Christmas morning combination that’s guaranteed to impress the in-laws.

Pesto Baked Camembert

Speaking of pesto, this baked camembert with twisted pesto pastry is a tear and share dream, creating the perfect centrepiece for Boxing Day ‘picky bits’ in a way that wows. To make it even easier, purchase pre-rolled pastry and simply cut and twist in an impressive but surprisingly easy to replicate design, and hey presto (or should we say pesto?), you’ve created a God tier recipe in less than 10 minutes. Experiment with sundried tomato or spiced pestos for a warming kick and enjoy in front of your seventh re-run of The Holiday of the festive season.

Chipotle Honey Baked Camembert

Realistically cheese goes well with most things, but add a little chipotle sauce, fresh spring onions and a generous dose of honey and you may well have just created food heaven. With the perfect warming kick for a cold and crisp winter’s day, pair this spiced and saucy camembert with an equally delicious crusty loaf and prepare to welcome in your new foodie obsession.

Rosemary and Garlic Camembert with Fluffy Bread Balls

If your dreams are often consumed by Pizza Express’ dreamy dough balls (same), look no further than this recipe for an at-home version of their doughy dynamic but bigger and better. With a honey and rosemary roasted camembert at the centre of this delicious sharing showstopper, take a dreamy December afternoon to prepare a batch of these fluffy and moreish bread rolls (it’s easier than you think) and enjoy them with a delightfully cheesy centrepiece or with a leftover Turkey and stuffing filling too. Bellissimo!

Super Easy Garlic Camembert Boat

Christmas calls for cheese and carbs on the hour every hour, and what better way to honour that tradition than with a camembert baked tiger bloomer? Stuffed with not one but two baked camembert rounds for double the joy and drizzled in oozy garlic rosemary butter, it’s a yuletide delicacy sure to please the crowds. And there’s no danger of any vampires coming anywhere near you – it’s a win win.

Camembert & Cranberry Twists

Want a bit of crunch with your camembert? Enter camembert and cranberry twists, baked to perfection and ready to share ‘n’ tear in 20 minutes flat. To make, simply roll out your Jus-Rol pastry and cut into two circles. Spread your first circle with a generous layer of spicy cranberry sauce, place your camembert wheel in the middle and then place your second layer of pastry over the top. Seal the edges with a fork to secure the layers and cut slices into the pastry ready to make your twists. Beat one egg and egg wash the whole pastry. Once complete, twist each of your sections into place and bake for 20 minutes until golden.

Cut the top off the top ready for dipping and dig in! Praise be, PastryTok. If you fancy adding a side of ‘health’, serve alongside a portion of crunchy crudités for a fresh palate cleanser between the puff pastry.

Camembert Baked Potato

If there’s one woman who never fails to come *through* with those convenient 10/10 recipes, it’s Poppy. Take your week-night Jacky P dinner and make it festive with this cheesy, caramelised red onion dreamboat, studded with garlic and seasoned to perfection. Yes. Please.

Pigs In Blankets Camembert Pasta Wheels

Meet the holiday hybrid we didn’t know we needed. Pigs in blankets are a firm favourite at Christmas time so combining them with cheese and carbs is nothing short of culinary genius. Plate it up and shovel it into your merry mouth at your earliest convenience.  Merry dirty dinner December, one and all.

Honey & Camembert On Ciabatta

For all the times you’re craving a Pret-level Christmas sarnie but cba to venture outside, consider this honey and cam ciabatta your lazy work-from-home lunch of dreams. Winter warmer? Completed it pal.

Camembert Wagyu Burger

For a holly, jolly Christmas look no further than this deep fried camembert wheel. This mammoth C-Bert creation is not for the faint of heart as it calls for an entire wheel of cheese, sandwiched between layers of caramelised onion and a wagyu burger. Admittedly, there’s a lot going on but if you’re B-I-G on cheese, then this maximalist meat feast is as God-tier as it gets. Note to self: there’s no way to eat this gracefully, so prepare to have a cheese-coated soul at the end of this . Villain mode: activated.
