Braids & Hairstyles for Super Long Hair: Double Rope Braid Bun

by Lina Clémence August 1, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Hello dear friends and a belated Happy New Year 🙂

I love being married to the love of my life!  I’ve been busy getting settled in to my new home, so I haven’t posted much as you probably noticed.  But once again I will try to start posting more often.

A few days ago I braided my hair in this pretty bun style.  My bun is actually two rope braids braided together in another rope braid, so a double rope braid 🙂

Thank you for coming by to see my pictures!  I’m living in the middle of snow right now, so I’ll see how I adjust my hair care to this new climate.  So far I’ve been able to stretch out my washes to once a week, and I’m putting monoi oil and coconut oil on the ends of my hair during the week.  It helps keep the static down and also keeps my ends hydrated.

See you again later, thank you for visiting my blog!

Meet Max, my new buddy

Happy together in a winter wonderland

18 Blonde Hairstyles with Highlights and Lowlights

by Lina Clémence July 26, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Blonde hair with highlights and lowlights is an excellent way to add depth, dimension and vibrancy with the combination of lighter and darker tones creating a multi-dimensional effect that makes the hair appear fuller, more dynamic, and visually interesting. Lowlights add depth and richness, while highlights provide brightness and contrast, resulting in a balanced and textured finish.

Blonde hair with highlights and lowlights offers versatility because it allows for a range of looks, from subtle sun-kissed styles to bolder, contrasting effects. By strategically placing lighter and darker shades, this creates depth, dimension and a customised look that can complement individual features and preferences.

Furthermore, blonde highlights and lowlights are also versatile in the way that they can be adapted to complement various hair lengths, textures and skin tones, making them a popular choice for anyone looking for a fresh and updated look.

Highlights vs. Lowlights: What’s the Difference?

Highlights

Highlights add lighter shades to hair strands, creating contrast and brightness, while low lights add darker shades to create depth and dimension. Highlights aim to brighten and soften the overall hair colour, whereas lowlights deepen the base colour and can make the hair look thicker.

Highlights work well for anyone aiming for a sun-kissed, natural look with added texture because they mimic the way that the sun naturally lightens the hair, creating depth and dimension. The strategic placement of lighter strands can also enhance natural texture and create the appearance of fuller, more voluminous hair.

Lowlights

Lowlights are darker strands that are added to deepen the hair colour and create richness and depth; in essence, highlights lighten and lowlights darken.

Lowlights are an excellent way to add depth, dimension, and a more natural look to blonde hair, preventing it from appearing flat and one-dimensional. By strategically placing darker strands of hair throughout the blonde, lowlights create contrast and richness, mimicking the natural variations found in hair with sun-kissed dimension. This technique can also help soften overly bright or brassy blonde hues and create a more multi-tonal effect.

Key Considerations for Blonde Hair with Highlights and Lowlights

Hair Type

Choosing a highlighting or lowlighting technique that complements your hair texture is recommended to achieve a look that is natural and flattering.  For example, straight hair often shows off highlights and lowlights in a more defined way, giving it a smooth, polished look. The contrast can make the hair look sleek and shiny. Curly hair, on the other hand, tends to suit softer, more blended tones. This helps the colour flow naturally with the curls and adds depth without looking too bold. Blended highlights and lowlights can also enhance the natural volume and texture of curly hair.

Hair Tone

The tone of blonde highlights and lowlights can be adjusted to suit different base shades of blonde. Cooler blondes often work well with ashy highlights or even platinum lowlights to add contrast and brightness. For warmer blondes, golden or honey tones can create a softer, more natural look. Customising the tone helps blend the colour with your base shade while still adding depth and dimension.

Maintenance Level

Blonde hair with highlights and lowlights does require regular maintenance to keep the tones looking fresh and balanced. Over time, colour can fade or shift, especially with sun exposure or frequent washing. For those looking to reduce upkeep, low-maintenance techniques like balayage or babylights are great options; they blend softly into the hair and grow out more naturally. In contrast, high-maintenance styles with defined roots or all-over highlights may need more frequent touch-ups to keep them looking fresh.

Top 18 Hairstyles for Blonde Hair with Highlights and Lowlights

1. Ash Blonde and Brown Highlights and Lowlights

Ash brown is a cool-toned brown with a slightly smoky finish. Ash brown highlights can gently lift darker hair, while lowlights can tone down lighter hair and add richness. It’s a great way to keep your colour looking soft and natural. Seen on celebrities such as Cara Delevingne.

Suitable Hair Types: Works best on naturally light to medium blonde hair, but can also be achieved on darker hair with lightening. This tone suits straight, wavy, and loose curly hair, as it reflects light well and adds a soft dimension.

Maintaining Blonde Hair with Highlights and Lowlights

Use Colour-Safe Products

To keep blonde highlights looking vibrant and healthy, it’s important to use colour-safe products. Sulphate-free shampoos and conditioners help preserve your colour while keeping the hair nourished and hydrated.

For cooler blonde tones, incorporating a purple or toning shampoo into your routine can help combat brassiness and maintain a fresh, clean finish. Using gentle, protective products between salon visits can make a big difference in the look and feel of your hair.

Regular Deep Conditioning

Blonde hair with highlights and lowlights can become dry and porous over time, especially after lightening treatments. Regular deep conditioning is essential to help restore moisture, improve elasticity, and bring back shine. Using a rich, nourishing treatment once a week can keep your hair feeling soft and healthy, while also helping to protect and prolong your colour.

Protect Hair from Heat

Lightened hair is more vulnerable to heat damage, so protecting it before styling is important. This adds a protective barrier that helps reduce breakage and dryness. For blonde hair with highlights and lowlights, this extra step can make a big difference in keeping your strands healthy, smooth, and shiny. Always use a heat protectant spray before using tools like hairdryers, straighteners and curling tongs.

Regular Salon Visits

Regular salon visits are important for keeping blonde highlights and lowlights looking their best. Root touch-ups every 6–8 weeks help maintain a seamless blend, while trims keep your hair in shape and prevent split ends. Staying on top of your appointments not only keeps your colour fresh but also supports the overall health and condition of your hair.

FAQ’s

What is the difference between highlights and lowlights?

Highlights lighten sections of the hair to add brightness and dimension, while lowlights add darker tones to create depth and contrast.

Can I do highlights and lowlights at the same time?

Yes, combining both can create a more natural, multi-dimensional look. It’s a great way to balance brightness with depth.

Most golden brunette and ash blonde tones tend to work best with blonde highlights, depending on your base colour and desired contrast.

Use a purple shampoo regularly, avoid excessive sun and chlorine exposure, and opt for colour-safe, sulfate-free products to maintain tone.

It depends on your natural hair colour. If your hair is light brown or darker, some level of lightening (usually involving bleach) is typically needed to achieve noticeable blonde highlights.

How often should I touch up blonde highlights and lowlights?

Every 6–8 weeks is ideal to maintain colour and blend new growth, though this can vary based on your hair type and the technique used.

Flipped Ponytail Updo | Hairstyles For The Holidays

by Lina Clémence July 21, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Today, I’m showing you the Flipped Ponytail Updo! You might not have a ton of occasions that call for a “fancy” hairstyle, but you should definitely be ready when the time comes. Whether it’s for prom, a wedding, a holiday party, or just because you feel like it, try out this Flipped Ponytail Updo that anyone can make happen.

This hairstyle looks incredibly complex, but it’s actually pretty easy to create! Depending on how you accessorize it, how much hair you leave out around the face, and how slicked back/puffy you leave the top of the hair, you can definitely dress this look up or down! We started by spraying in dry shampoo to get lift at the roots. Don’t worry about being TOO clean – dirty hair is actually better for updos.

Items Needed: hair elastics (texture powder, hairspray, dry shampoo if desired)

Time Requirement: 15-20 minutes

Skill Level: Easy/Medium

Flipped Ponytail Updo

  • Separate the hair into 3 even sections. Pull the middle section out of the way.

  • Finger comb the right section of hair into a small elastic. Smooth down fly-away pieces with Wiggle Room Flexible Hold Hairspray by Hairitage. Loosen so the hair is not slicked back.

  • Repeat step 2 on the left section. Use the Magic Dust Texturizing Hair Powder by Hairitage if you need more grip/volume in the hair.

  • Pull back the middle section of hair, and allow the sides to cover the part lines that are showing. Use Lazy Day Light Dry Shampoo by Hairitage to keep oils at bay, and to add grip to the hair. Secure with a small elastic.

  • On the right section, add another small elastic a couple of inches down from the first elastic.

  • Make a hole in the hair between the 2 elastics and flip the ponytail OVER the hole you created. The hair creates a little twist – use the texturizing powder to really fluff it out. Repeat 3 more times down the right section.

  • Repeat step 6 on each section of hair (how many bubble twists you have in each section depends on the length of your hair.

  • Move the right section of hair across the middle and left sections, and loop it under. Secure with bobby pins.

  • Move the left section of hair across the middle and right sections, looping it under and securing with bobby pins.

  • Fold the middle section back and forth, tucking it under the other 2 secured sections. Place to your liking and secure with bobby pins.

  • Add accessories, hairspray, and tweak if needed!

30 Most Flattering Hairstyles for Oblong Face Shape

by Lina Clémence July 11, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Sometimes, an oblong face shape can look slightly rough and disproportional due to its longer chin part if we compare it to “classic” oval faces. The only reason why the natural features of long faces wouldn’t beautify a lady is that the lady hasn’t explored even briefly all the flattering hairstyles options for oblong face shape specifically and keeps experimenting with random hairstyles from Internet pics disregarding the face shape of the model.

However, so many girls perfectly adjust their win-win hairstyles to the straight long lines of their faces. You can find endless inspiration even among celebrities: Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Kardashian, Courtney Cox, Victoria Beckham, Nina Agdal, Meryl Streep, Liv Tyler, Carrie Underwood, Gwyneth Paltrow, Faith Hill, Lisa Kudrow, Cate Blanchett have shown millions of images and hair solutions that look beautiful with oblong face shape.

Stop wasting your time in search of your perfect hairdo – we’ve already done everything for you:

Tips To Keep In Mind When Styling Hair For Oblong Face Shapes

hair_talk_with_annak

Firstly, focus on the basics – the main characteristics of your face shape. The long and narrow bone structure of the oblong face shape is similar to the rectangle shape but features softer jawlines and chin. The forehead, cheeks, and jawline are about the same width, and the length of your face is about 60% longer than its width. This is your face shape initial data.

Now, let’s move to the main tips:

  • Try to create an oval face shape aka visually shorter and broader.
  • Balance the medium and long lengths with the volume you give to your hair.
  • Bangs give balance to long faces proportions: A-bangs, long curtain bangs, wispy bangs, and side-swept bangs.
  • Play with hair texture to soften the harsh lines and create volume at the sides: wavy and curly textures and layered haircuts mostly work better than a slick straight cut.
  • Hair contouring balances the face length just like face-framing layers do.
  • Avoid too much volume on top unless you balance it with the fullness of the sides.
  • Be careful with any hair cuts that go shorter than chin length.

30 Gorgeous Hairstyles For Oblong Faces

Gorgeous Hairstyles For Oblong Faces

hairsilk.dubai.official

Did you know that oblong face shapes have always been associated with royal and luxurious vibes?

Thus, like a true treasure, an oblong face shape needs a decent faceting. Below, you’ll find the 30 best hairstyles for oblong face shapes inspired by celebrities, models, and talented hairstylists – ready to serve your beauty.

Thick Side Swept Bangs

Thick Side Swept Bangs

always_veeram

Looks like Kelly Reilly adores her thick side-swept bangs and tries to stick to them in most of her hairstyles. The bangs cover the forehead and soften those angular features. It should also be noted those bangs contribute to the major volume of the whole hairdo and look effortlessly chic with a shoulder-length bob. Even when Kelly was spotted with a formal updo she remained committed to her thick hair side swept bangs.

Slick Straight

Slick Straight

intrendhairstyle

What you should remember in case of choosing this particular hairstyle is that a deep side parting is your must-have in the circumstances. A blunt cut is a timeless and sophisticated haircut but its sharp line in combination with straight thin hair and a middle part can make your long face look even longer and more angular.

So, if you’re on the texture-free side today, don’t forget about the oblong faces basics: make a side part, make sure your long bob is slightly longer than your chin, and create some volume at the sides (work only through the inside strands, keeping the external hair smooth and glossy).

Natural Curls

Natural Curls

curlycast

Whether you’ve been born with tight Afro curls or with Caucasian soft curls, consider yourself a lucky winner of the genetic lottery since wavy hair and curly hair texture are a perfect match for an oblong face shape. No curly iron, no daily suffering with the texture – it’s all settled by Mother Nature. The only responsible task you’ve got is to have a proper curly hair care routine to make those curls look healthy and shiny.

Chin length Bob

Chin length Bob

always_veeram

Chelsea Kane often chooses wispy chin-length styles for her oblong face shape. She can experiment with the texture: from messy wavy like in the photo to straight but wispy, but what she hardly ever changes is that deep side part that makes every hairstyle the right hairstyle for Chelsea’s facial features and face length.

Curly Shoulder-Length

Curly Shoulder-Length

iammichab

The fuller your hairstyle is, the longer you can make it. This long faces golden rule works for naturally curly hair and for the textures created with a flat iron or curly iron. Shoulder length is the golden medium hairstyle that’s probably the most versatile.

By the way, it’s not only about the hairdo that you pick for oblong face shape – accessories, makeup, and even the type of your top’s neckline matter too. Just look how flattering those massive hoop earrings are for the long face and how they complement the curls.

Bob With Bangs

Bob With Bangs

kerrywashington

Recently, Kerry Washington, who is also a famous owner of oblong face shape, showed up at one of the events with a classic chin-length bob with a short straight fringe. Despite her hair not featuring an outstanding volume and no texture being created either, it still was flattering to Kerry’s oblong face thanks to that mini fringe that visually shortened the face length and made it more oval.

Long, Loose Waves

Long, Loose Waves

kimkardashian

Have you seen the previous Met Gala red carpet? It looked like the main hair trend was having no hairstyle at all, and most celebrities succeeded in it. So did Kim: this undone snow-white hairdo with long loose messy waves and black roots was part of her Met Gala look. As you can see, even with a middle part, this long hairstyle works magic with Kim’s oblong face shape. So, why don’t you try interpreting this idea in your next image?

Center-Parted Low Bun

Center-Parted Low Bun

Ignoring all the recommendations about side parts for long faces, Kim often sticks to her central part religion even when it comes to slicked-back low or high ponytails and buns. A low bun allows for more chances to direct the strands around the face so that they soften the long face. Curtain bangs and individual-standing strands also look more harmonious with low buns.

And did you know that the goddess of smooth middle part low buns Bella Hadid also has a mix of oval and oblong jaw types?

Voluminous Curls

Voluminous Curls

frizzandfrillzz

How many times we’ve already mentioned the power of curly hair types to flatter oblong face shapes? Just saying it once again.

Oh, and also pay attention to the shape of this voluminous curls hair cut. To add width, it’s not so high on top and falls just above the shoulder length – the best formula for a narrow and long face.

Jellyfish Cut

Jellyfish Cut

doubleq_chris

Jellyfish cut is indeed not for everyone. Its eccentric shape is often topped off with some far-from-average hair color – a poisonous mixture that can kill. However, we can’t but mention the jellyfish cut in this guide since its soft layers combined with longer hair and bangs have everything to become a good balancing hairstyle for long faces.

Curtain Bangs

Curtain Bangs

always_veeram

Ariadne Artiles is the model with an oblong face that has never been noticed with a short haircut. If you’re also a classic long-hair fan, you can get inspired by Ariadne’s endless looks. However, we’ve chosen this wavy ombre cut with curtain bangs since it seems to be the best oblong face shape solution from the model’s portfolio. Simple in styling and easy to combine with different outfits, this is just the timeless right hairstyle.

Curly Short Bob

Curly Short Bob

beta.semche

This short hairstyle is so bright not just due to that magnificent playful hair color, but also due to the lusciousness and perfection of these voluminous curls, which are cut professionally in the right curly hair technique. That volume is meant to add width to a long face. Chin-length bobs are often chosen by curly girls when they wanna get a more low-maintenance haircut. This length is compromising for the sake of making your curls neither too long aka difficult to handle nor too short aka not highlighting the beauty of hair texture.

Downward Pixie Cut

Downward Pixie Cut

mssarahcatharinepaulson

With this pixie cut sitting on this list of hairstyles for long faces, we want to prove you that even the most “unrecommended” hairdo can work magic for your face shape if you bear in mind the key details that flatter any oblong face.

The width or length of your face doesn’t define your hairstyle opportunities. It’s you who does.

Updo With Bangs

Updo With Bangs

kimkardashian

This is probably Kim’s favorite version of an updo in recent years. She’s tried it in black and blonde, with different outfits, for a variety of occasions. And even though the updo is rather high (which is not the best thing for an oblong face shape), nobody’s gonna notice it since the layered bangs do the magic. Moreover, in this photo, it’s hardly even possible to tell that Kim has a long face – exactly what we’re aiming for.

Chin-Length Ombre Bob

Chin-Length Ombre Bob

spacebyalexbrown

If you’re into going slightly shorter than shoulder length, you’d better not go further than a chin-length bob for the sake of good looks of your oblong face shape. Besides this thicker hair texture, which as we’ve learnt, gives the desired effect, we can double it by applying specific coloring techniques. Combine ombre with face-framing color contouring – and you get a flawless long-face hairstyle.

Wavy Hollywood Bob

Wavy Hollywood Bob

paulson4ever

Wanna spark like Sarah Paulson at the 77th Annual Tony Awards? Try this wavy Hollywood bob with a middle parting, gentle face-centered front strands, of distinctively short length. Indeed, this bob has gone much further than the commonly recommended chin length, but look: it does do a good job! The long face looks perfectly framed and softened, and the hairdo shines with timeless sophistication for a special occasion.

Slicked Down Center Parting

Slicked Down Center Parting

hair_talk_with_annak

Despite being one of the most distinctive owners of oblong face shapes in Hollywood, Sarah Jessica Parker is a lifelong fan of middle parts. With curly or straight hair, with a tightly tied ponytail, or with an updo, in 95% of cases, you’ll find Sarah with a parting in the center of her head. Still, the actress knows how to flatter her face shape by using the right accessories, adding the necessary accents in makeup, and texturizing her hair when necessary.

You might expect to see a typical messy low bun updo with side-swept or curtain bangs here but instead, we’ve found an unboring solution for naturally curly Afro hair type that opens up the face and creates the volume around at the same time. What’s cool about this hairdo in the context of long faces is that the hair doesn’t stand too high on top (so, the face isn’t elongated even more), but instead, the natural volume of curls falls to the sides, softening and rounding an oblong face.

Center-Parted Ponytail

Center-Parted Ponytail

A flawlessly slicked-down middle-parted ponytail is a fad these days. Girls adore this hairdo and wear it on every possible occasion. The fact it’s comfortable and long-lasting for sport, active rest, or just a day out, makes this hairstyle even more attractive. But what can we do if long faces don’t always look win-win with a hairstyle like this? Let your bangs or face-framing strand do all the job!

Half-Up, Half-Down

Half-Up, Half-Down

This retro half-up half-down hairstyle by Liv Tyler from the early 2000s can be quite an inspiration these days since the 00s aesthetics is back in fashion. This side-swept sleek half-up is rather classic and even romantic. All you need to do is to create big relaxed curls at the length of your hair with a curling iron and secure the upper part of hair with a hair tie or a hair clip. Avoid any angles and symmetry in your look.

Casual Beach Waves

View yourself with Nina Agdal-inspired long beach waves. The shape and structure of the waves are achieved thanks to layering. This medium hairstyle works for long faces since most of the hair is swept to one side, and the texture is easy to maintain throughout the day to look fresh.

Beaded Side-Swept Braids

Beaded Side-Swept Braids

And how do you like this bold and rebellious long faces solution from the legendary Alicia Keys? So youthful and bright, this braided hairdo is also a protective hairstyle for naturally curly hair. The direction of the braids can be adapted to your personal preferences and is chosen individually, but we do recommend creating something similar to the photo as the asymmetry balances out oblong face shapes. As for the beads, it’s always nice to have an opportunity to personalize your hairdo.

Retro Curls

Retro Curls

If coming back to the 2000s through your hairstyles seems to be not far enough for you, what do you say about these ’70s disco curls? Besides being a really delicious retro-inspired look, it also has everything to be claimed as an awesome oblong face shape hairdo. The volume is at the sides, not on top, the hair is side-parted, and the length slightly covers the shoulders – what else do you expect to get from a long face-framing style?

Voluminous Curly Bob

Voluminous Curly Bob

Parted at the side, this Afro curly bob is meant to become your outstanding feature. It’s loud, it’s unique, it’s authentic. If this is your vibe – look no more and you’ll get a long face-softening hairstyle as a bonus.

Side Ponytail

Being another form of asymmetry in hairstyles, a side ponytail can serve wonderfully for those in search of new hair ideas for an oblong face shape. Mostly, a side ponytail is chosen for special occasions, parties, and smart outfits.

Bouncy Layers

Yes, good old face-framing layers are your best friends. Whatever the hair length is, whatever the texture is, these layers will always save the look when we talk about oblong face hair solutions.

Center-Parted Tousled Lob

Discover your new signature style and radiate confidence – even when you change as little as the texture of your hair, it can benefit greatly the way you feel about yourself. This hair structure is easy to achieve with a texturizing hairspray and dry shampoo. Check out a couple of video tutorials online and you’re ready to shine.

Half-Up Shaggy Curls

For dessert, we’ve saved this airy and light curly half-up with the perfect balance of volume, order, and disorder whatever it means. You can experiment with the ways you secure the top part but remember not to settle it too high. Instead, focus on creating an extra boost at the sides. Thus, your oblong face will look win-win.

Simple Short Bob

And another kind reminder: if you’re itching to go extremely short with your bob, you have to stay on the bangs side with it. Otherwise, the proportions of your face and hair will be ruined. By the way, this haircut looks extremely romantic and smells like Paris, Amelie, and big adventures.

FAQs

  • What hair parting is best for an oblong face?

As you can conclude from the hairstyles listed in the gallery, both the middle part and the side part can be equally flattering for oblong faces. Still, the choice is crucial and depends on what hairstyle you’re opting for: slick or textured, straight or curly, loose or tied.

  • Is short hair or long hair better for an oblong-shaped face?

We would insist on a medium length somewhere between chin and shoulder level. It would be perfect. Still, you can find a way to wear an extremely short bob or long textured hair without negative effects on your face shape balance.

  • Can oblong faces wear long hair?

Absolutely. As long as you work on the texture of your hair and don’t let it just fall down the sides of your face making it even more linear visually.

  • Is a bob cut good for an oblong face?

A chin-length bob can really complement an oblong-shaped face. Remember to pair it with a wispy fringe, side-swept or curtain bangs to reach the desired effect.

Bottom Line

We do hope that by the moment you reach the bottom line of this article, you’ve already got rid of any biases or stereotypes about oblong face shape (if you’ve had any). Just like any other face shape, an oblong face just needs a proper choice of elements of the cut and style to highlight your facial features in the most flattering way. The Best Men’s Hairstyles 2018 [Autumn/Winter]

by Lina Clémence June 30, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

It’s time to say your goodbye to the sun, salt and sand – a new season is coming up real soon and it is time to consider getting a brand-new haircut or maybe just making a minor change in your hairstyle?

But…. What are the biggest trends in men’s hairstyles for autumn and winter 2018? Well, we, as always, have got your back and in this blog post, we’ll guide you through the best men’s hairstyles for fall and winter 2018.

The Messy Textures

It’s time to break with the neat, preppy pompadours for a bit. One of the key trends of 2018 is the messy, textured and effortless look.

Think in terms of length that’s pushed up but still left messy and preferably styled using a matte clay like By Vilain Dynamite Clay.

Texture and movement are the key! Ask your hairdresser to chop into your hair, making it look just a bit messed up and like… Well… Like you’ve done it yourself.

Pro tip:  If you’re growing your hair, this is the perfect trend to grab onto. It’ll get you through that weird middle stage between short and the man bun.

The Undercuts

Okay – we still blame Peaky Blinders for this one – nevertheless, the cool undercuts are definitely here to stay since they are both stylish, simple and very versatile (on top of being extremely popular).

Leaving length on top while cropping, fading or buzzing both back and sides. The undercut does, however, come in a wide variety of versions – but some of the most popular are the undercuts with either a:

  • Pompadour
  • Slick back
  • Quiff
  • Or.. the disconnected undercut with textured length

As you might have guessed, while being an extremely cool hairstyle with loads of bad-ass factor, this hairstyle is at the same time also high-maintenance. So if you’d rather snooze 15 minutes every morning, go for the messy, bedhead-hairstyles instead.

The undercut pompadour

The Side Partings

If it works for Tom Hardy, it sure as h… also works for us as well! Consider embracing your softer, preppy side with a classic parting up top.

The side-parting hairstyles of 2018 have shorter layers and loads of texture. Go for keeping the sides longer with a scissor-cut or try out an edgy (low) fade.

This hairstyle is more than ideal if you’re on the lookout for a quick and easy hairstyle where you don’t necessarily have to blow dry every morning.

– Here’s how: Let your hair towel dry and work in a shinier product such as a glossy pomade to get that just-out-of-the-shower vibe, which casually signals to everyone around you that you’ve got better things to do than spend all morning in front of the bathroom mirror.

The (Bleached) Crop

A sharp, blunt fringe. Sounds familiar, right? This particular hairstyle was made popular by Zayn Malik last year – and to this day, we’re still loving this stylish haircut!

The 2018 version of this specific style, however, is a slightly choppier and looser, casual version – combined with a bleach blond top.

Think Serious Texture – and ask your hairdresser to leave a bit more length at the top of your head than at the sides and back.

Finally, if you choose to be bold and go blond on top, please let your hairdresser take care of this job for you – and remember to invest in a purple shampoo as well!

The Buzz Crew

Grown a bit tired of your wavy, mid-length hair or your shiny slick back? Maybe it’s time to opt for a bit more edgy and military-inspired ‘do?

Similar to the short crop mentioned above, but less scary as you don’t need to go blond on the top. Go for short sides and back and just a little more hair on top.

– Consider adding a bit more texture by asking your hairdresser to do a clean scissor-cut.

While this hairstyle is very effortless and definitely less time-consuming when it comes to styling, it still requires you to get those touch-up trims every 1-2 week – otherwise, the hairstyle will simply lose its edge.

26 Trendy Long Layered Hairstyles

by Lina Clémence June 29, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Long layered hairstyles are a popular hairstyle choice for anyone looking to add volume, texture and movement to the hair, and can create a chic and versatile looking style.

Additionally, long layers can be tailored to work well with a variety of different hair types, such as straight, curly and wavy, and can transform a basic cut into a striking, dynamic look. They can also be easily customised for various face shapes to enhance natural features, while offering a low-maintenance yet fashionable style.

Origins of the Long Layered Haircut

The long-layered haircut initially gained popularity in the 70s, with the rise of long layered styles, which were focused on more of an effortless and relaxed vibe, and were a change from the more structured and polished styles from previous decades.

The long-layered haircut then gained significant traction in the 90s thanks to Jennifer Aniston’s “The Rachel” cut on the hit TV show “Friends”, which became something of a cultural phenomenon in the 90s with women flocking to salons to replicate the style. The cut was characterised by its flattering face-framing layers and volume and was a key part of Rachel Green’s character as a style icon.

In recent years, the 90s aesthetic has seen a revival, and with it, “The Rachel” has returned as a popular hair style choice. This highlights the style’s timeless appeal, with the long layers making the hair appear lighter, voluminous and with an effortlessly styled vibe. Modern interpretations of the long-layered look involve incorporating subtle variations such as wispy ends or more textured and structured cuts.

Key Considerations for Long Layered Hairstyles

Hair Texture

Long layers can be easily adapted to different textures, whether the hair is sleek, straight, wavy or curly.

For sleeker, straighter styles, layers can be styled with a straightener for a smooth, polished look, or blow-dried with a round brush at the roots for an extra bit of body. As fine hair can often be weighed down by its length, making it appear flat and lifeless, cutting layers into the hair allows it to move more freely, creating lots of natural movement and creating an illusion of fullness.

For wavy or curly hair, layers can enhance the look of texture or curl patterns beautifully with the use of curling tools and texturising products. Additionally, long layers can help to remove weight from thick hair, making it feel less heavy. By distributing the hair’s weight and allowing for better airflow, long layers can also help to reduce frizz in thick hair and make it more manageable.

Face Shape

Long layered hairstyles can be incredibly versatile in balancing various face shapes. By strategically placing layers and adding volume, styles can help to create the illusion of a more balanced and proportionate look.

For round face shapes, long layers that start around the jawline or just below can help to elongate the face. The addition of volume at the crown of the head and sides can also help to create height and length.

For square face shapes, long layers can soften the strong angles of the face, particularly around the jawline. The addition of soft, wispy bangs that sweep to the side can also help to soften the face.

For heart-shaped faces, long layers can help to balance the wider forehead and narrower chin. Layers that hit the chin or jawline can add width to the lower part of the face and create a more balanced look. It is best to avoid styles that add too much volume at the crown, as this can emphasise the forehead.

Long layers are generally extremely flattering on oval-shaped faces. They add movement and volume without overwhelming the balanced proportions of the face. Adding layers that fall at the cheekbones can add great definition and frame the face beautifully.

It is recommended to experiment with different starting points with layers to find the most flattering style for your face shape.

Lifestyle & Maintenance

Long layered haircuts are considered relatively low maintenance compared to other styles, partly due to the fact that they naturally create movement and shape, minimising the need for any extensive styling. However, regular trims are still recommended to keep the layers looking fresh and healthy.

To enhance texture and add volume, and hold the layers in place, use a combination of a texturising spray, volumising mousse or root lifting spray. Start with a volumising shampoo and mousse at the roots. Follow with a texturising spray to enhance the layers and provide hold. A finishing hair spray can also be applied for extra hold if needed.

Top 26 Long Layered Hairstyles

1. Barely-There Layers

Barely-there layers, also known as subtle or invisible layers, create a soft, natural-looking effect on medium to long hair by blending soft, airy layers into the existing length without any sharp, obvious lines. The layers are strategically cut to add subtle volume, texture and movement, with the goal being to enhance the hair’s natural shape and flow. Seen on celebrities such as Gemma Chan.

Suitable Hair Types: Although versatile, fine hair will benefit from barely their layers as they can add volume and movement without compromising on length.
Styling Tips: Focus on adding texture and movement rather than defined waves and curls. Before styling, apply a texturising spray to damp hair, focusing on the roots for additional lift.

2. Butterfly layers

Butterfly layers are a more heavily layered variation that blends both long and short layers to create a voluminous look that resembles a butterfly’s wings. The shorter layers typically fall around the face, framing it, while the longer layers extend below the shoulders, maintaining the overall length of the hair. The combination of both layers creates a bouncy effect, with the shorter layers adding lift and the longer layers providing a sense of flow and movement. Seen on celebrities such as Sydney Sweeney.

Suitable Hair Types: It is better suited to thicker hair types, as although the butterfly cut can add volume to fine hair, if the layers are not placed strategically, this can make the hair look thinner. For thicker hair, butterfly layers can be a great choice as they remove bulk and weight, creating a balanced and modern look.
Styling Tips: Use a large round brush while blow-drying, lifting at the roots and directing the hair away from the face to create the signature butterfly effect.

3. Layered Long Beach Wavy Hairstyle

A layered, long beach wavy hairstyle features long hair with varying lengths of layers, creating a soft, relaxed and effortless look. This style often incorporates loose, tousled waves that mimic the natural movement of the hair after being in the ocean and spending time in the sun, giving it a relaxed and carefree vibe. Seen on celebrities such as Sienna Miller.

Suitable Hair Types: Can suit a variety of hair types, but is particularly flattering on naturally wavy hair as the layers help to enhance the natural wave pattern.
Styling Tips: Allow the hair to dry naturally for a more natural, relaxed and tousled effect.

4. Layered Bouncy Curls

Layered bouncy curls are a curly hairstyle where the layers are strategically cut into the hair to enhance its natural shape and volume, creating a more defined and springier look.  By incorporating layers, this allows the curls to move more freely, preventing a heavy, bulky appearance and instead focusing on a bouncy, healthy-looking style. Seen on celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker.

Suitable Hair Types: This style is particularly effective on textured, naturally curly hair, as it helps curls bounce and spring up naturally, creating volume and a lively appearance.
Styling Tips: Use a curl-enhancing serum or mousse to define your curls. Finish with a diffuser to encourage volume and definition.

5. Curve Cut

A curve cut, also known as a C-Shape cut, is a layered haircut that is characterised by soft, curved lines that frame the face and create a gentle and flattering shape. It typically features layers that curve inwards, mimicking the letter ‘C’, with the shortest layers framing the face and the longer layers cascading. Seen on celebrities such as Gwen Stefani.

Suitable Hair Types: The curve cut can be a great choice to add volume to finer hair, as the soft flowing curves of the cut add movement, making it appear fuller.
Styling Tips: Accentuate the curved layers by styling with a blow-dry that encourages the hair to curve inwards. Tools such as a curling tong can be used to add more defined waves, the key is to maintain the natural flow and shape of the cut.

6. Billowy Layers

Billowy layers are long, soft and flowing layers that create a sense of volume and movement, often described as “Whimsical” or “Fluttery”. The layers are cut in a way that allows the hair to move and flow naturally, creating a soft and romantic look. Seen on celebrities such as Blake Lively.

Suitable Hair Types: Can work well on most hair types and textures, but is best suited to hair that is medium to long, as it provides enough length to create the desired movement, as well as a more gradual transition between layers.
Styling Tips: Focus on adding volume and bounce. Use a round brush and then lift at the roots. Be sure to apply a heat protectant spray and consider using smoothing serum to tame any frizz.

7. Layered Long Bangs

Layered long bangs involve cutting the front sections of the hair into varying lengths, creating layers that blend into the rest of the hair. These bangs are typically longer than traditional blunt bangs and can be styled in various ways, such as swept down to the side, parted down the middle or worn straight. Seen on celebrities such as Carey Mulligan.

Suitable Hair Types: Can work well on most hair types, although fine hair should avoid over layering as it may make the hair appear thinner.
Styling Tips: Use a round brush to lift at the roots and curl the ends of your layers slightly under. Direct the airflow downwards to minimise any frizz.

8. Flippy Layers

Flippy layers are all about layers that are styled to flick, or flip outwards, creating a playful, bouncy and often retro look. These layers are typically created with a combination of wet and dry cutting techniques, where the initial cut is done when the hair is wet, followed by a blowout, and then refined with dry cutting once the hair is styled. Seen on celebrities such as Hailey Bieber.

Suitable Hair Types: Works best on shoulder-length to long hair that is thick and wavy, as flippy layers can enhance natural waves.
Styling Tips: Embrace the flip by curling the ends outwards or adding rollers.

9. Sideswept Long Cut

The sideswept long cut involves long hair styled with layers that are shorter than the overall length, and the bangs, if present, are also swept to the side. Layers of varying lengths are cut into the hair to create dimension and a softer, more flowing look. For this style, the hair is predominantly long, maintaining length while incorporating layers for added texture and movement. Seen on celebrities such as Lana Del Ray.

Suitable Hair Types: Can be flattering for various hair types. Fine hair can benefit from the layers for the illusion of fullness, while thicker hair types can use the layers to remove weight and create shape.
Styling Tips: To style long layered hair with a side sweep, focus on adding volume and texture while keeping the layers well defined. Use products like volumising mousse, leave-in conditioner and texturising sprays to enhance the layers.

10. Layered Centre-Parted Loose Waves

A layered haircut with a centre part and loose waves combines the versatility of layers with the face-framing effect of a centre part and the soft texture of loose waves. The layers add movement and volume, while the centre part can enhance facial features and balance the style. The loose waves add a relaxed yet refined effect, as well as adding softness and dimension. Seen on celebrities such as Jennifer Garner.

Suitable Hair Types: It is suited for various hair types, but works particularly well on thick, wavy, long hair. The layers will help to remove any bulk, making thick hair a lot more manageable and preventing a triangular shape, especially when styled with waves.
Styling Tips: Create loose waves by wrapping sections of the hair around a curling wand, holding it vertically and away from the face.

11. Side-Swept Layers

Side-swept layers involve cutting shorter pieces of hair around the face, starting from a side-part, and then blending them into longer layers throughout the rest of the hair. This creates a soft, face-framing effect and adds volume and movement to the hair. The layers are subtle and gradually blend into the longer lengths of the hair.

Suitable Hair Types: Can work well and be adapted to various hair types, but can work very well with straighter hair, as sideswept layers will often naturally fall into place, making them very easy to style.
Styling Tips: Blow-drying with a round brush can help to create lift and volume at the roots and shape the side-swept layers.

12. Shaggy Layers

Shaggy layers are all about choppy layers at varying lengths to create a voluminous and textured look. The style often includes a fringe or bangs and is renowned for its ‘undone’ appearance. The layers are designed to add movement and dimension, and a key focus of the look is the abundance of layers that are cut at different lengths to create a textured and ‘messy’ look, often associated with a rebellious rock and roll vibe. Seen on celebrities such as Billie Eilish.

Suitable Hair Types: Shaggy layers are very versatile, working well for a variety of different hair types, but can be a great choice for finer hair as it can add body and volume to make it appear fuller.
Styling Tips: Shaggy layers are all about natural texture, so let your hair air dry when possible or use a diffuser to enhance.

13. Blunt Bangs with Long Layers

Blunt bangs with straight layers feature straight across the forehead bangs that create a strong, bold frame for the face, paired with long layered hair that adds movement, volume and texture. The blunt bangs can offer a striking contrast to the softer flowing layers, to create a stylish and modern look. Seen on celebrities such as Naomi Campbell.

Suitable Hair Types: Can be flattering on a variety of hair types, but works best on straight to slightly wavy hair, as the sharp lines of the bangs contrast beautifully with the soft layers of the hair.
Styling Tips: For a sleek, polished finish, which works well with this style, consider using smoothing products such as a smoothing cream or serum.

14. Layered V Cut Hair

A layered V haircut focuses on layers cut into a “V” shape at the back of the head, creating a pointed and triangular look. Layers can be cut around the face to soften the overall look and create a flattering effect. The layering technique used adds volume and texture to the hair, especially around the face and in the back. Seen on celebrities such as Dakota Johnson.

Suitable Hair Types: Works well on a variety of different hair types, but can be a great option for straighter hair as the layers can add texture, preventing it from looking flat.  Additionally, straighter hair can also accentuate the V shape well.
Styling Tips: Apply a sea-salt spray to the layers to add definition and body.

15. Curtain Bangs with Layers

Curtain bangs with layers are a stylish, versatile haircut that features long, face-framing bangs that are parted in the middle to create a soft frame around the face. Layers are incorporated throughout the rest of the hair to add texture, volume and movement. This combination created a soft, blended look that can be tailored to complement various face shapes. Seen on celebrities such as Sabrina Carpenter.

Suitable Hair Types: Can be flattering on a wide range of hair types; however, wavy hair tends to lend itself particularly well to this style, blending in seamlessly with the tousled effect. The layers can enhance wavy hair beautifully to add to the soft, face-framing effect.
Styling Tips: For a soft and “swoop” effect, use curling tongs or rollers to curl the bangs away from the face to create a soft, outward curve.

16. Layered Halo Cut

A layered halo cut involves specific hair extensions that feature built-in layers to seamlessly blend with natural hair. These extensions typically include 2-3 gradual layers, intended to create a natural look with added volume and length. The layers are also designed to mimic the natural layers in a person’s hair, allowing for a blended appearance. Seen on celebrities such as Michelle Keegan.

Suitable Hair Types: Works great on naturally curly and wavy hair types as the style will enhance their shape and movement. It can also be beneficial for finer hair as this will add volume and movement, making it fuller.
Styling Tips: Like any other hair extensions, the layers will require proper care, including regular detangling and using specialised hair products for maintenance.

17. Airy Layers

Airy layers are light, feathered and wispy and are achieved through strategic layering techniques. The layers are designed to create movement with a soft, flowing shape, often framing the face and enhancing the hair’s natural bounce. To create the soft and wispy ends, the layers are feathered and thinned out, and then tapered at the ends, resulting in a delicate, airy appearance. Seen on celebrities such as Jenna Ortega.

Suitable Hair Types: Wavy hair naturally lends itself well, as its natural texture provides a great foundation for airy layers, allowing for enhanced movement and a fluffy appearance.
Styling Tips: Focus on techniques that will enhance volume and movement, all while maintaining a soft, blended look. Using a round brush when blow-drying can create lift at the roots and curl the ends under for a bouncy effect.

18. 90s Layers

90s layers typically involve face-framing pieces with lots of movement. The shorter layers around the face are a hallmark of many 90s styles and can soften features as well as add definition. The layers throughout the hair are usually focused on creating a rounded shape, especially in bob variations or longer styles, giving the illusion of full, bouncy hair. Seen on celebrities such as Christy Turlington.

Suitable Hair Types: Can be adapted to various hair types, but tends to work best on naturally wavy hair as this style thrives on volume and movement.
Styling Tips: Use curling tongs for the face-framing layers to define to achieve a soft, chic look.

19. 70s Layers

70s layers are characterised by their long-feathered appearance, designed to create movement and texture in the hair. They often feature shorter layers around the face, gradually lengthening towards the back, providing a soft, face-framing effect. Modern interpretations of 70s layers often focus on a more refined look with a blend of texture and movement without excessive volume. Seen on celebrities such as Stevie Nicks.

Suitable Hair Types: Wavy hair is well suited for 70s layers as the waves complement the style’s emphasis on texture and movement.
Styling Tips: To enhance the retro feel, add some loose waves to your layers by using a large barrel curling tong or rollers.

20. Bell-bottom Layers

Bell-bottom layers are a 70s-inspired haircut characterised by a blunt bob with ends that are flipped outwards to create a bell shape. It is a playful take on the classic bob, with the volume concentrated on the bottom, similar to the silhouette of bell-bottomed jeans. The style can be worn with or without a fringe and can be styled with precision for a more polished look or with a more undone textured finish. Seen on celebrities such as Gigi Hadid.

Suitable Hair Types: It is ideal for thick hair as the volume and weight of the hair naturally enhance the flipped-out ends.
Styling Tips: For a more dramatic effect, use rollers or large barrel curling tongs to create a more defined flick.

21. The Mixie

The Mixie is a blend of the pixie and mullet, and includes short, choppy layers at the front and crown, which is reminiscent of the pixie cut, and textured lengths at the back, similar to a mullet. It is a versatile style that offers a mix of edginess and playfulness, with the longer back sections adding a retro mullet-inspired twist. Seen on celebrities such as Zoe Kravitz.

Suitable Hair Types: Can work on most hair types but is a particularly good option for fine hair as it adds texture and fullness due to its layering and volume.
Styling Tips: Apply a texturising spray or pomade to enhance the texture. It is also recommended to have regular trims every 4-6 weeks to keep the style looking fresh.

22. Mussed Layers

Mussed layers are lightly cut layers that are also known as ghost or invisible layers and are created using thinning scissors to avoid any harsh lines or contrasts. They are subtle and seamless, with the idea being to add layers to the hair to create the look of volume without necessarily looking like layers. Seen on celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez.

Suitable Hair Types: Mussed layers are great for fine hair with the added volume and movement they naturally provide.
Styling Tips: Loose waves work well with mussed layers, as the barely-there nature of the layers add the perfect amount of texture and volume to these types of styles.

23. Wolf Cut

The wolf cut is a modern hairstyle that blends the elements of a mullet, and shaggy layers are characterised by choppy layers with a mix of long and short lengths. It is known for its volume on top, shorter layers at the front and then a tapered, wispy finish at the bottom. The style is designed to look intentionally undone and a bit wild, like it has been styled with minimal effort. Seen on celebrities such as Miley Cyrus.

Suitable Hair Types: Wavy and curly hair naturally complements the wolf cuts layered and textured look, requiring minimal styling to achieve the desired effect. The layers also help to define curls and waves.
Styling Tips: Blow-dry the layers by curling them outward or inward to add both shape and movement. For a more tousled look, use curling tongs to create loose waves.

24. Bixie

The Bixie is a stylish hybrid of the pixie and the bob, offering a modern textured look that is shorter than a bob but longer than a traditional pixie. It combines the shorter, layered structure of the pixie with the longer face-framing aspects of a bob. The layers are short, textured and scattered throughout the crown and sides, with longer pieces framing the face. Seen on celebrities such as Florence Pugh.

Suitable Hair Types: Works well on a variety of hair types; it can be a great option for thicker hair types, as it can help to reduce bulk and make it easier to style and manage.
Styling Tips: Use texturising products such as a mousse or pomade to define the layers without weighing them down.

25. The Rachel Cut

The Rachel is an iconic 1990s haircut that was introduced in 1994 by celebrity hairstylist Chris McMillan and then gained significant traction in the 90s thanks to Jennifer Aniston’s cut on the hit TV show “Friends”, which became something of a cultural phenomenon in the 90s with women flocking to salons to replicate the style. The cut was characterised by its flattering face-framing layers and volume, and was a key part of Rachel Green’s character as a style icon. An additional feature of the Rachel was its shoulder-length cut and numerous layers, often starting around the jawline and then extending to the mid-length or collarbone. Several other celebrities have been seen sporting variations of the Rachel, such as Reese Witherspoon.

Suitable Hair Types: The layers in the Rachel cut are designed to add volume and body, making it a great choice for those with naturally fine hair.
Styling Tips: Finish with a lightweight serum or spray to add shine and a healthy, glossy appearance to the hair.

26. The Brachel

The Brachel is a modern twist on the iconic Rachel cut, incorporating Brigitte Bardot-inspired bangs. It features a shoulder-length cut with layers, adding movement and volume, and then styled with face-framing bangs. The Brachel builds upon the layered structure of the original Rachel haircut but has a more of a 60s meets 90s vibe, with a focus on softness and volume and a slightly flicked-out finish. The Brigitte Bardot-inspired bangs are a key element of The Brachel, and their length of style can be customised to suit different face shapes and preferences. Seen on celebrities such as Billie Piper.

Suitable Hair Types: Can be styled to suit various hair types, but works particularly well on hair with some natural texture, such as wavy or slightly curly hair, as it enhances the layers and creates a flattering shape around the face.
Styling Tips: Focus on lifting the hair at the roots as you dry, particularly around the crown, to create a full, voluminous look.

Tips for Maintaining Long Layered Hairstyles

Regular Trims

Regular trims, ideally every 6-8 weeks, are recommended to maintain layers are keep them looking healthy by preventing split ends from travelling up the hair shaft, which can lead to breakage and further damage.

Use the Right Styling Products

Styling products such as creams and mousses are great to use for defining layers without weighing down the hair. They offer a lightweight hold and definition, enhancing the hair’s natural texture while minimising stiffness. These products are specifically formulated to be airy and light, making them a great choice for maintaining the movement and volume in long layered styles.

It is also important to use a heat protectant spray before styling your hair with any heat tools to minimise any heat damage. Using a heat-protecting spray will create a barrier between the hair and the heat tool to reduce any moisture loss and prevent the hair from becoming dry, brittle and prone to any breakage. Without a heat protector, the high temperatures can damage the hair cuticle, leading to split ends, dullness, and a loss of shine.

Add Volume When Needed

To add some additional volume, you can incorporate root lifting sprays or use a dry shampoo. A root-lifting spray will add height and texture at the roots to create a lifted and voluminous appearance. The dry shampoo will help to absorb any excess oil between washes and add volume.

FAQ’s

Long layers are very versatile and can be easily adapted to different textures, whether the hair is sleek, straight, wavy or curly. Generally, thicker, wavier hair types are best suited to long layered hairstyles as they enhance the movement and shape well.

Regular trims, ideally every 6-8 weeks, are recommended to maintain layers and keep them looking healthy and fresh.

Yes, long layers can be a great option for curly hair as layers can help distribute weight, create a healthy bounce, and make curls spring up naturally.

What’s the difference between long layers and a shag haircut?

A shag is characterised by short choppy layers, with many around the crown for additional volume. Layers are cut slightly shorter than the rest of the hair and then used to frame the face or add texture to the hair. By comparison, long layers are generally longer, softer and more blended, focusing more on volume and movement.

To style long layers for extra volume, focus on techniques that lift the roots and create movement with the layers, such as blow-drying with a round brush, using volumising products, or adding curls and waves.

Bandables Twisty Braids Headband Review and Tutorial | Hairstyles For Girls

by Lina Clémence June 28, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Today we are testing the “bandables twisty braids headband” by Localoc.  We saw this at our local Walmart and thought it looked cute and fun to try.

We are always looking for easy hairstyles for school mornings and thought it would be perfect for those days when you need a 5 minute hairstyle. (Which is pretty much every school morning at our house!)

This would also be a great accessory for 2nd or 3rd day hair, to help disguise when it’s looking slightly greasy. For those of you who are growing out your bangs, this would be fabulous as well!

Review and Tutorial Video: (Click here to watch this hairstyle video directly on YouTube.)

We liked that the little hair elastics on this headband held her hair back quite tightly without pulling or clamping her hair.  We’ve tried similar options in the past (with barrettes or clips attached to the headband) and it seems like you need exactly the right amount of hair to make those work. We’ve had trouble with the hair being too thick to clip the barrettes shut, or the hair being too thin and sliding right out.  So, the elastics are a great option that will accommodate all different hair textures and thickness.

There are many different hairstyles that can be created using this headband.  We have shown just a few basic ideas in this video:

A half up twist.

Cute and easy half up hairstyle for school using twisty braids headband.

 A ponytail.

Easy 5 minute ponytail hairstyle for school with twisty braids headband.

If you play sports, I think this would be a nice option for keeping your hair out of your face.  You could add a ponytail, bun, or braid and be ready to go.

I think this would look really cute with curled, wavy, or crimped hair as well as straight.  This would also be perfect for short hair, as well as long. So fun!

We unfortunately were not able to find this available to purchase online yet… I think it is too new.  Here are some similar headbands on Amazon, but none with the elastics yet:

Headband 1, Headband 2, Headband 3. You might have better luck finding this at your local drugstore or retailer.

25 Trendy Hairstyles with Bangs

by Lina Clémence June 27, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Bangs are a timeless and versatile hairstyle option that can transform your look and add a chic and modern edge to any style.

Bangs are incredibly versatile and can be tailored to suit any face shape, hair type and length, offering everything from edgy blunt fringes to soft, wispy layers. Additionally, bangs can work well with a range of different hairstyles, from sleek bobs to long layered cuts, making them a great option for a bold, fun or stylish statement. They can also be accessorised with clips, headbands or hairpins to create a personalised and unique look.

Key Considerations for Choosing Your Hairstyle with Bangs

Face Shape

When choosing which style of bangs to go for, it’s important to consider your face shape and select a style that will best complement your features.

Oval: Oval face shapes are versatile and can pull off pretty much most styles of bangs, including blunt, side-swept, or layered.

Round: Side-swept, curtain, or layered bangs can work well with round face shapes as they can add angles and length to the face to elongate.

Square: Wispy, feathered or curtain bangs can be a great choice for square face shapes to soften the jawline.

Heart Shaped: Half-moon, curtain or wispy bangs that are shorter in the middle and longer on the sides can help to balance heart-shaped faces.

Hair Texture

Straight, wavy and curly hair textures all work well with bangs, but the specific type of bangs and styling techniques may vary.

Straight Hair: Straighter hair types are versatile and can accommodate a wide range of bang styles. Including blunt, side-swept, or curtain bangs. It is particularly well-suited for blunt bangs that require a crisp, clean line.

Wavy Hair: Wavy hair naturally adds texture, making it a great fit for soft, relaxed styles of bangs, such as curtains or wispy bangs. Incorporating layers can also enhance the natural movement of the waves.

Curly Hair: Curly hair can also look great with bangs, but will require some additional styling to maintain the shape and definition. Techniques such as twisting, using a diffuser, or applying a curl-defining product can help manage and style curl bangs

Textured Hair: Textured hair, including coily hair, can also work well with bangs, especially with styles that are focused on texture or layered styles.

Hair Length

Bangs can be styled with a variety of hair lengths, from both short to long hair styles. Short, medium, and long styles can all be paired with different types of bangs, such as side swept, blunt or layered.

Short Hair: Bangs can be incorporated into styles such as a pixie cut to add edge or to soften the look. They also work well with Bob’s, which can be complemented with blunt or sideswept bangs.

Medium Hair: Long bobs (Lobs) can be paired with curtain bangs or layered bangs to add movement. For shoulder-length hair, bangs can be styled with layers or curtain bangs to add dimension and texture.

Long Hair: Long hair looks great with layers and bangs that create a voluminous, shag-like style. Blunt or side bangs can also work well with long hair.

Top 25 Hairstyles with Bangs

1. Curtain-Parted Bangs

Curtain parted bangs are parted down the middle and then swept to the sides. They are typically longer than blunt bangs, with the middle section being shorter and then gradually increasing in length towards the sides. The longer sections help to frame the face, highlighting the cheekbones and eyes. Seen on celebrities such as Priyanka Chopra.

Suitable Hair Types: Can work with most hair types, but is particularly well-suited to wavy hair as it often falls naturally into the desired shape, requiring minimal styling.
Styling Tips: Apply a small amount of mousse before blow-drying for added hold and texture.

2. Sweet and Wispy Fringe

A sweet and wispy fringe is a light, airy and feathery type of bangs that are typically longer than traditional blunt bangs. They are characterised by their soft, slightly uneven, and see-through appearance, often with pieces that fall delicately around the forehead and brows. The ends of the bangs are often textured with lots of movement. Seen on celebrities such as Lucy Boynton.

Suitable Hair Types: They are very versatile, but can be particularly flattering on finer hair as they can add shape and volume, whilst creating the illusion of fullness.
Styling Tips: The focus is a soft, feathery look by keeping the hair light and airy. Use a round brush when blow-drying to add volume and shape, or opt for air drying for a more relaxed variation.

3. Grown-out Shag

Grown-out shag are a style of bangs that have been allowed to grow out. They often include choppy or textured layers that frame the face and seamlessly blend into the rest of the haircut. They typically fall around the cheekbone area and are often longer on the sides. Seen on celebrities such as Alexa Chung.

Suitable Hair Types: They can work well for naturally wavy hair, as the layers and textures will complement the hair’s natural movement and volume.
Styling Tips: Use a texturising spray to enhance the look and add additional volume and body.

4. Long Retro Bangs

Long retro bangs are a face-framing style that features longer, parted bangs that sweep outwards. They are typically longer than traditional bangs, typically extending to the cheekbones. They are usually parted down the middle or slightly off-centre, creating a curtain-type effect as they frame the face. Seen on celebrities such as Dakota Johnson.

Suitable Hair Types: Very versatile and can work on a variety of hair types; however, the soft framing effect can complement wavy hair beautifully by enhancing its natural texture.
Styling Tips: Combine with vintage-inspired hairstyles such as victory rolls or updos for a classic retro look.

5. Micro Baby Bangs

Micro baby bangs are a super short fringe that is typically cut above the eyebrows, often only an inch or two long. They are a bolder, more striking version of longer styles of bangs and can be styled in various ways to add a unique and edgy flair to any hairstyle. Seen on celebrities such as Pamela Anderson.

Suitable Hair Types: Finer hair types work well with micro baby bangs as they don’t require much volume to look good, and the shorter length can help to create the illusion of fullness.
Styling Tips: Micro bangs require regular trims every 3-4 weeks to maintain their shape.

6. Classic Fringe

A classic fringe is a style where the hair is cut straight across the forehead, typically falling just above the eyebrows. The style can be thick and blunt, or most textured and wispy. They can be styled straight down or slightly angled and are a popular choice for framing the face. Seen on celebrities such as Jameela Jamil.

Suitable Hair Types: They can work well on all hair types, depending on the styling and cut.
Styling Tips: Use a styling cream before blow-drying for a smooth finish while maintaining a soft texture.

7. Feathered Bangs

Feathered bangs are cut with layers to create a soft, wispy and textured look. They are designed to blend seamlessly with the rest of the hair and are characterised by their layered cut, which creates a soft, feathery appearance at the ends. Seen on celebrities such as Lily Allen.

Suitable Hair Types: Can be adapted to most hair types, although those with extremely curly or textured hair may find it a bit more challenging to achieve the desired feathered effect.
Styling Tips: Use a round brush and hairdryer to create volume and the feathered effect, rolling the hair away from the face while drying.

8. Textured Bangs

Textured bangs feature layers and different lengths to create a deliberately “lived-in” and tousled look, rather than blunt and one length. This style adds dimension and movement to the hair, framing the face in a relaxed and casual way. Seen on celebrities such as Daisy Edgar-Jones.

Suitable Hair Types: Wavy and curly hair types naturally provide the texture needed for the relaxed, tousled effect.
Styling Tips: While they can be styled to look more refined, textured bangs tend to look best with a bit of pomade and some tousling to enhance their natural texture.

9. Faux Bangs

Faux bangs are hairpieces designed to mimic the look of bangs without the commitment of a haircut. They are a temporary hair accessory that can be easily attached or removed, allowing for experimentation with different fringe styles. Faux bangs can come in various styles, colours, and textures. Seen on celebrities such as Hilary Duff.

Suitable Hair Types: Faux bangs are a versatile option for pretty much all hair types.
Styling Tips: You can curl or straighten faux bangs to match any desired style.

10. Sleek and Side-Swept Bangs

Sleek, side-swept bangs focus on the front section of the hair being cut shorter and angled to one side, creating a smooth and refined look that sweeps across the forehead. This style is versatile and can be styled both sleek and straight or with a bit of tousle. Seen on celebrities such as Bella Hadid.

Suitable Hair Types: Can work with a variety of hair types, but can be particularly well-suited to straight hair as the style will naturally fall into place and is easy to style.
Styling Tips: Use a light mist of hairspray to hold the style in place without making it crunchy.

11. Deep Side Swoop

Deep side-swept bangs, also known as deep side swoops, involve a section of the hair being cut to a longer length and then swept across the forehead from a deep side part, often with a curved shape and some volume or layering for movement. They are a versatile style that can be customised to suit different face shapes. Seen on celebrities such as Lana Del Ray.

Suitable Hair Types: A deep side swoop is a very versatile style, but generally works best with medium to long hair that is wavy, as this enhances the texture and movement of the layers.
Styling Tips: Use a round brush when blow-drying and focus on lifting the root and directing the hair to the side you want to swoop.

12. Short and Sparse Bangs

Short and sparse bangs are a style where the front and sides of the hair are cut short and typically above the brows, with less density than traditional bangs. This style is characterised by its delicate, airy appearance, often achieved through layering. They can be a great choice for anyone seeking a softer, more ethereal look. Seen on celebrities such as Jessica Chastain.

Suitable Hair Types: Short and sparse bangs can be a great option for finer hair as they can add volume and texture.
Styling Tips: Short, sparse bangs require only a small amount of product to avoid looking greasy or weighed down.

13. Topknot With Fringe

A topknot with a fringe is a style where the hair is gathered and then secured at the top of the head in a bun or knot, while the strands of the hair are left to fall over the forehead, framing the face. This style combines the neatness of a topknot with the softness and face-framing effect of bangs. Seen on celebrities such as Kendall Jenner.

Suitable Hair Types: Can be very flattering on a variety of hair types, but is particularly well-suited to hair with some natural texture or thickness, as this hair type will naturally hold the shape and allow for a more relaxed, tousled effect.
Styling Tips: Use hair grips to secure the bun in place, making sure to tuck away any loose ends.

14. Uneven Bangs

Uneven bangs are also known as asymmetrical or choppy bangs, and are characterised by a fringe that is intentionally cut with varying lengths and angles, creating a more textured and less structured look than traditional blunt or straight across bangs. This style aims for a less precise, more natural or “messy” look, as opposed to the super clean lines of blunt bangs. Seen on celebrities such as Julia Fox.

Suitable Hair Types: Uneven bangs can work well with a variety of hair types, but work particularly well with straight and slightly wavy hair, as they will maintain the shape most easily.
Styling Tips: Consider using a styling cream or gel to help create the desired shape.

15. Updo With Smooth Bangs

An updo with smooth bangs features a neat, polished hairstyle where the hair is gathered away from the face and then styled upwards, with the bangs styled in a sleek, even manner across the forehead. This look can be achieved with various updo styles, such as a bun, chignon, or French twist. Seen on celebrities such as Gemma Chan.

Suitable Hair Types: Straight hair naturally holds a smooth, sleek style, making it an ideal hair type for an updo with smooth bangs.
Styling Tips: If you want a softer look, gently pull out a few strands around your face.

16. Spiky and Sweeping Bangs

Spiky and sweeping bangs are characterised by short, textured strands that are typically styled outwards to create a choppy and edgy look. These bangs parted off-centre to sweep slightly and then blend into the rest of the hair. Seen on celebrities such as Dua Lipa.

Suitable Hair Types: Can be adapted to work with most hair types, although finer hair may need some additional styling with texturising products to achieve the desired look.
Styling Tips: To style, apply a styling product such as a texture paste or wax to your fingertips and work it through the hair, creating the desired spiky effect.

17. Center-Parted Bangs

Centre-parted bangs, often referred to as curtain bangs, involve the hair parted down the middle and then typically longer on the sides to frame the face. Centre-parted bangs typically taper outwards at the cheekbone or jawline to create a gentle, soft shape that is full of volume and movement. Seen on celebrities such as Sabrina Carpenter.

Suitable Hair Types: Wavy hair can create a soft, natural and effortless look with this style, making it an ideal hair type for centre-parted bangs, although they are very versatile and can be adapted for various hair types.
Styling Tips: For extra lift at the roots, gently backcomb the underside of your bangs before styling.

18. Thick and Choppy Bangs

Thick and choppy bangs are a bold hairstyle where the bangs are cut at varying lengths, creating a textured and uneven look, often with a blunt or angled base. They differ from blunt bangs by having more visible texture and varying lengths, giving them an edgy vibe. The degree of choppiness and the length of bangs can be adjusted to suit different face shapes and personal preferences. Seen on celebrities such as Zooey Deschanel.

Suitable Hair Types: They can be styled on various hair types, but work best on thicker hair types, as it provides the ideal density for creating choppy layers or texture.
Styling Tips: For added volume and texture, a dry shampoo can be a good option.

19. Wispy Bangs With Shag

Wispy bangs with a shag haircut combines a shaggy layered look with softer wispy bangs. The style includes layers that provide volume and dimension, along with light, airy bangs which frame the face beautifully for a balanced look. The layers are often razored to create a lived-in look. Seen on celebrities such as Miley Cyrus.

Suitable Hair Types: This style can suit a variety of hair types, but can be a great option for finer hair as it can add volume and give an illusion of fullness.
Styling Tips: To keep the bangs light and airy, use a sea-salt spray to add separation and definition.

20. Blunt Bangs With Wispy Sides

Blunt bangs with wispy sides combine the boldness of a blunt, straight fringe with the softness and movement of wispy feathered ends. The blunt cut creates a defined line across the forehead, while the wispy sides blend seamlessly into the rest of the hair, softening the overall look. Seen on celebrities such as Kerry Washington.

Suitable Hair Types: This style tends to work best with straight and wavy hair, as they can maintain a defined shape while having a soft, effortless feel.
Styling Tips: Finish with a light hold hairspray to keep the style in place and add definition.

21. Voluminous Bangs With a Side Part

Voluminous bangs with a side part are a style where the front section of the hair is cut to a shorter length and angled across the forehead, then swept to one side with added volume and fullness. This look can add a touch of glamour and draws inspiration from the 60s, 70s and 90s, depending on the styling. Seen on celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez.

Suitable Hair Types: For this style, hair types with natural texture or the ability to hold a curl, like wavy or slightly curly hair, tend to work best.
Styling Tips: For extra lift, you can use curling tongs or rollers to set the volume.

22. Straight Bangs With Wavy Lob

A wavy lob (long bob) haircut with straight bangs combines a trendy, shoulder-length hairstyle with a bold, blunt fringe. The lob provides a versatile base with its length falling between a classic bob and longer hair, while the straight bangs add a striking contrast, creating a look that is both chic and edgy. Seen on celebrities such as Mila Kunis.

Suitable Hair Types: Works best with hair that has some natural wave and texture, but isn’t overly curly or frizzy. This allows for the bangs to be styled straight and sleek, while the rest of the hair can embrace its natural waves for a balanced look.
Styling Tips: Don’t fight your natural texture. Use styling products like mousse or curl cream to enhance your waves and add definition.

23. Long Side Fringe

A long side fringe is longer than a traditional full fringe and typically starts from the side parting. It covers only a portion of the forehead, often angled diagonally across, and is a flattering style that can be adapted to various face shapes and lengths. Seen on celebrities such as Demi Lovato.

Suitable Hair Types: A long side fringe is generally a versatile style that can suit a variety of hair types, but tends to be a good option for wavy hair as it can enhance natural waves beautifully.
Styling Tips: To style a long side fringe, you can create a side part, then blow-dry with a round brush for volume, or use straighteners to create a sweeping effect.

24. Layered Bangs

Layered bangs involve cutting the fringe into different lengths with gradual layers throughout the rest of the hair, which creates a blended look rather than a blunt or solid line. Unlike blunt bangs that are all one length, layered bangs have shorter and longer pieces of hair within the fringe. Seen on celebrities such as Keke Palmer.

Suitable Hair Types: Layered bangs can be flattering on various hair types, but they are particularly well-suited to thick, wavy or curly hair as they help to remove bulk and add shape.
Styling Tips: For a classic look, use a round brush and blow-drier to create shape, directing the airflow downwards and away from the face.

25. Rounded Bangs

Rounded bangs are a type of fringe that curves gently around the face, typically starting shorter in the centre and then gradually lengthening towards the temples. They create a soft, flattering frame for the face, enhancing features and adding a touch of elegance. The bangs are cut into a soft curve, following the natural arch of the eyebrows for a rounded, voluminous effect. Seen on celebrities such as Zendaya.

Suitable Hair Types: Rounded bangs work well with most hair types, but are particularly flattering on naturally straight or slightly wavy hair, as they will add definition and shape.
Styling Tips: Use a curl cream or mousse to enhance and define the shape.

Tips for Maintaining Your Hairstyle with Bangs

Trim Regularly

It is recommended to book regular appointments every 3-6 weeks (depending on the style) for trimming your bangs to maintain their shape and prevent them from becoming too long or even.

Use the Right Tools

Using high-quality hair scissors is important for cutting clean-looking bangs, whether you are cutting them at home or having them done by a professional.

A round brush or blow-dry brush is recommended for styling bangs to minimise frizz, as they provide tension and control during the drying process, helping to smooth the hair and lessen flyaways.

Keep Them Clean

It is important to wash bangs frequently because they tend to get greasy and quickly, due to their proximity to the forehead and face.

Dry shampoo is recommended as a quick and convenient way to absorb excess oil and refresh bangs between washes.
