Revamp Your Winter Skincare Routine with These 5 Must-Have Additions | Makeup Savvy

by Lina Clémence August 12, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Winters can be worse for our skin as those cold, harsh winds and indoor heating not only rob the precious moisture from your skin but can cause dryness and irritation, too. Most of us are unsure how to maintain our skin’s health, especially if it is dry and aging.

There is no escape from the wintery conditions outside or the indoor heat, so you must know what kind of skincare routine and products to follow. For example, investing in good quality moisturizers and an anti-aging face cream to protect the skin is a must. Thankfully, there are some effective ways to safeguard the skin from the chill and dryness of the winter.

Revamp your winter skincare routine with the following must-have additions if you are looking for a supple, radiant, and hydrated complexion.

A nourishing moisturizer with the right ingredients
You will need some nourishing and intensifying moisturizers during the cold to keep the skin supple and hydrated. For example, hyaluronic acid and glycerin in moisturizers are effective as they are low-molecular-weight substances. Emollients are essential to fortify the skin’s barrier and safeguard it from the cold winds. Occlusives, which are oils and waxes in moisturizer, prevent any water from escaping the skin.

• Tip:  Upgrade your moisturizer in winter and look for a more nourishing formula with ingredients like shea and glycerin to create a protective barrier.

Use a hydrating serum
As both inside and outside the house are  drier in winters, what your skin needs is a hydrating serum with hyaluronic acid. The aim here is to protect the skin with a  powerful ingredient that can keep the skin well-hydrated and lock in the maximum amount of moisture. Use dermatologist-approved products and look for the most effective formulas to address your wintertime skin needs.

• Tip:  Add a hydrating serum with hyaluronic acid in your daily skincare routine

Exfoliating treatment for the body
As cold weather conditions encourage the buildup of dead skin cells, your body and face start looking dull. It is essential to include an exfoliating treatment in your daily skincare routine and use a strong exfoliant to get rid of dead skin and cells from your body and face.

• Tip:  Shop for a chemical exfoliant with alpha hydroxy acids or beta hydroxy acids for effective exfoliation.

Intensive repair for hair
Make sure to pay attention to your hair during winter and focus just on your body and face. Include an overnight mask in your daily skincare routine for intensive care and repair of your hair. Cover your hair with a mask at night and let it work on the scalp and hair while you sleep to rejuvenate the hair and strengthen the roots.

• Tip:  Look for aloe vera and chamomile masks and apply twice a week at night to help repair dry and dull hair.

Last but not least, remember to give your lips some love in the winter and keep them well hydrated with a lip balm with SPF. Follow the above tips to maintain smooth and glowing skin during winter and impress everybody with your radiant complexion.

Velvet Texturizing Cream Is a Must-Have for Summer

by Lina Clémence July 18, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

When it comes to finding that perfect product that gives your hair both hydration and texture, without weighing it down, Milbon&’s Velvet Texturizing Cream from the Monochromatic Collection is a standout in Anh Co Tran’s styling kit. Anh shared why it’s a go-to product year-round, and especially during the summer months when hair can feel dry, flat, or frizzy.

Hydration Meets Airy Texture

What sets Velvet Texturizing Cream apart? According to Anh, it’s an interesting balance between hydration and airy texture. It adds hydration to the hair without making it too heavy or too shiny. Velvet is especially helpful for clients with wavy hair, dry ends, or those looking for that undone, air-dried look without fuss. It gives definition and separation, but keeps the hair soft and touchable.

How to Use It

Velvet Texturizing Cream can be used in multiple ways depending on your hair type and routine:

  • On towel-dried hair: Apply a small amount to help enhance waves, tame flyaways, and give a natural, air-dried finish.
  • After styling: Use it to add hydration and texture back into the hair, especially at the ends or to break up polished styles for a more lived-in feel.
  • In ponytails or updos: Velvet gives that soft, separated texture that feels effortless but styled at the ends.

Summer-Ready and Reworkable

Summer heat can take a toll on hair, drying it out fast. Velvet Texturizing Cream is perfect for refreshing your look mid-day. When your hair feels dry in the heat, it can be reapplied to give some hydration and a little sheen, and some texture. Anh says it’s lightweight and buildable to use throughout the day. He says Velvet has a texture that’s hard to find in other products. It is a cream, but it’s not too wet. It’s like a cross between a cream and a paste. That balance makes it versatile and easy to work with for different hair types and styles.

What Clients Are Saying

Anh hears from clients who use Velvet Texturizing Cream in different ways, whether it’s air-drying for a wash and go, pairing it with Froth Blowout Foam to enhance curls, or adding it to styled ends for softness and control. It’s become a staple for those wanting that effortless Lived-In finish.

Whether you’re styling your hair for an event or embracing a wash-and-go routine, Velvet Texturizing Cream delivers a soft, hydrated texture that adapts to your lifestyle. It’s the kind of product that earns a permanent place on your shelf, especially when your hair needs a little extra love in the heat.

Hyaluronic Acid – Why It’s a Must-Have In Your Skincare Routine! – All Things Aesthetic

by Lina Clémence July 12, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Hi guys! I hope everyone is safe and well at the moment during such scary times. Luckily, I made it to my grandma’s last week to isolate with her, which means I am with a family member as opposed to being at uni on my own. I don’t know about any of you, but it still all feels a bit surreal, and to be honest, I am pretty scared right now. I know I always say this, but if anyone feels the same way, you can always drop me a message here – sometimes it’s nice to speak to someone you don’t know when you’re stressed. I know how tough lock-down may be for some of you, me included, and to cope with it I am trying to stay positive and think of everything I am grateful for. I can honestly say that I hope never to take anything or anyone for granted again; I miss my friends, I miss my family, but I also appreciate them more than ever. I also want to take a chance to encourage everyone to please please PLEASE comply with the lock-down stipulations. It’s tough, I know, but we need to do everything we can to stop to spread of COVID-19.

Right, enough of the doom and gloom, let’s get on with the blog! I’ve mentioned a few times how I did an interview with Today’s Lifestyle, and they were kind enough to send me some face masks. One of the ones they sent was Filgora’s ‘Hydra-filler Mask’, used to create an ‘intense hydra-plumping effect’.

Not a very aesthetic picture I know, but you’ve gotta work with what you’ve got!

To lighten the mood a bit, you can also have a picture of me 5 minutes after a mini breakdown, using this face mask to try and cure my troubles…

While it hasn’t remedied all my problems, taking time out for a little pamper always helps. Sheet masks are great, not only for their comedic effect, but also because you can use them multiple times. The instructions advise you to leave on for 15 minutes each time, and I plan on doing this two times a week. Having used this twice now, I can confirm it has left my skin feeling fresh and plump. I’ve decided to really dedicate some time (since I have a lot of it right now) to my skincare regime, particularly while I won’t be wearing make-up. You can check out this face mask on Today’s Lifestyle here, using the code TDLS50 for 50% off your first purchase (making it £5)! More importantly, it contains hyaluronic acid, which is GREAT for your skin, and here’s why…

Our skin actually produces hyaluronic acid naturally to boost moisture, but levels are often compromised for a number of reasons, including ageing and skin pollution through environmental aggressors. As such, it is important that we include it in our skincare routines to ensure our skin is hydrated, moisturised, and plumped to perfection, with dermatologists claiming that it retains remarkable amounts of water in our skin. To avoid a dry complexion, as well as hyaluronic face masks, I use a moisturiser and serum, each of which contains the acid:

  • The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% Serum – £5.95 at Beauty Bay
  • Dr Ever Youth Vitamin C + Hyaluronic Acid Moisturiser – available for £7.99 at your local TK Maxx store. This isn’t very helpful though, as we can’t shop, so I’ve attached a link to an alternative by The Ordinary which also contains Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid for £5.20.

I know skincare is probably at the bottom of your list of worries right now, but for me it can be a positive distraction – it may not work for everyone, but I hope it helps some of you. As I’ve already said, please do drop me a message, even if it is non-blog related!

Stay safe everyone. Hopefully I will be back next week for more things aesthetic xxx

This Sundress is a Must-Have for Summer

by Lina Clémence June 12, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

I’m a big fan of sundresses, but most of the time the straps aren’t wide enough to cover my bra strap, and I’m not a fan of strapless bras. Enter this ruffle strap sundress, with ruffle straps wide enough to cover any type of bra strap!

This sundress is a lightweight chiffon fabric with a knit lining and elastic at the waistline for waist shape. It’s a classic midi length, available in petite and regular lengths, and of course it has GWC signature pockets. It’s available in this polka dot print as well as a statement red-orange solid, in sizes XXS-5X.
