Upcycled Fabrics Turned Magical Kids Clothing – Literally Nataly

by Lina Clémence August 15, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Noelle was kindly gifted this beautiful one of a kind handmade dress from Button and Beans. Cat, the designer behind the pieces of Button and Beans uses unwanted fabrics and transforms them into whimsical kids clothing. The dress that Noelle is wearing used to be a duvet cover, and had I not known I would have never guessed!

SO WHY IS UPCYCLING ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA?

  • Whether you are upcycling a piece yourself or purchasing an upcycled piece:
  • You are saving materials from landfill
  • You are minimising the use of and conserving natural resources
  • You are supporting small, local businesses, and industries.
  • You are reducing the need for manufacturing that can come with hefty carbon emissions
  • You can create new pieces using materials that are meaningful to you (baby blanket, something that belonged to your parents, etc.).

Embracing the practice of upcycling not only contributes positively to environmental sustainability but also allows individuals to express their creativity and individuality. By repurposing items that may have otherwise ended up in landfills, upcycling reduces waste and minimizes the extraction of raw materials, which is especially crucial in the current global environmental context. By supporting upcycled pieces, individuals are also investing in local artisans and small businesses, contributing to the growth of sustainable and ethical industries. Whether it’s breathing new life into old furniture, clothing, or household items, upcycling created a wonderful opportunity to transform the old into something new and meaningful, all while making a positive impact on the planet.

Have you upcycled something or bought a piece that has been upcycled lately? Would you wear a dress made using a preloved duvet cover? Let me know in the comments!

The dress in the image was gifted by Buttons and Beans and is genuinely loved. Help support small businesses that support the environment and make it a social norm to shop responsibly.

4 Ways to Encourage Imaginative Play – Literally Nataly

by Lina Clémence July 20, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Imaginative play is crucial for a child’s development. It fosters creativity, problem-solving skills, and emotional intelligence. It helps children learn to socialise, communicate, and empathise with others. Additionally, imaginative play allows children to explore their surroundings, experiment with different roles, and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them. It’s an opportunity for children to express themselves and build self-confidence as they take charge of their imaginative worlds.

  1. Provide your child a space in the home for play. It can be a room or a corner of room!
  2. Provide them with props and toys. You don’t need to go out and spend a lot of money! Cardboard boxes can be anything in an imaginative world – in Erik’s case a city (which you can see in the back of the photo).
  3. Be your child’s playmate! Show an interest in with they are doing and play along, this helps them develop the story and encourage imagination but still allows them to stay in charge.
  4. Go out on adventures and provide them with experiences to role play!

Organic and Fairtrade Bedding – Literally Nataly

by Lina Clémence June 27, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Some of my favourite “me time” moments have been spent losing myself in a new captivating fantasy world, cocooned in the comfort of butter soft bedding. I think that most of us can agree that reading a great book in bed is one of life’s greatest pleasures, a pleasure that coincidently also has a positive effect on our sleep. Research has shown that people who read in bed have better overall sleep quality and also experience fewer problems staying asleep.

As a bookworm who enjoys a cosy space I was naturally elated when organic and fairtrade company Cottsbury reached out to me about their new sustainable luxury bedding collection.

I received the “White Classic Organic Cotton Sateen Weave Bedding Set” and the “Warm Taupe Oxford Organic Cotton Sateen Weave Pillowcases”, both of which are crafted from 100% GOTS certified organic cotton and have a 300 thread count. Cottsbury is dedicated to using only natural materials in their products, right down to the coconut shell buttons on the bedsheets. The silky soft bedding is packaged in beautiful organic cotton bags made using surplus fabric from Cottsbury’s own bedding range, effectively minimising waste. This commitment to eco-friendly practices and attention to detail adds a wonderful layer of thoughtfulness to the entire experience of owning and enjoying their products.

Both the farm (located in Kalahandi, Odissa in India) and factories (located in Kolkata and Greater Noida) utilised by Cottsbury for production are Fairtrade certified. Cottsbury hold both third-party and independent audits of their suppliers on a yearly basis and visit the factories at least twice a month to ensure that they are up to social and ethical standards.

Passionate Tips for Reading Comfortably in Bed:

Reading in bed is a beautiful experience that allows you to escape into different worlds and expand your imagination. For maximum comfort while indulging in your favourite book, make sure to have a cozy pile of pillows to support your back and elevate your head. Create the perfect mood with soft lighting and a warm blanket to keep you snug, and consider using a bookstand or a pillow to support your arms and hold the book at eye level. Enjoy!

The bedding in the images was gifted by Cottsbury and is genuinely loved. Help support businesses that support the environment and make it a social norm to shop responsibly and sustainably.

5 Ways to Help Wildlife this Spring – Literally Nataly

by Lina Clémence June 2, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Spring is a magical time of year filled with wonder and light. The days stretch longer, wrapping us in their warm embrace, while nature comes alive with a flurry of activity. It is a time of year where many species begin preparing for a new breeding season. But the changes in climate and weather patterns mean that animals are waking up at different times than they used to, so insects might emerge before the plants they need to feed on, or birds before the insects that make up their food supply. Luckily there are individual and collective actions that we can take to help wildlife through this transition. Below are 5 tips to offer invaluable support to some of our most beloved species.

Plant for pollinators: You can help them by planting wildflower seed balls. These are simple to cultivate and care for, and can be dispersed in any location, including a 30cm container on a balcony or doorstep. They are capable of germinating in as little as four weeks. With 30 seeds packed into each small ball, this simple action can create a valuable stepping stone for passing pollinators.

Mow lawns less frequently: our lawns are mini wildlife reserves and the longer the grass, the more species it houses. Insects and invertebrates are an important food source for birds and common lawn plants like clover and dandelion can be a lifesaver for bees and butterflies.

Keep topping up bird feeders: many people recognise that feeding birds can help them through tough winter conditions, but it’s equally important in spring. Early in the season, the nights can still be freezing and the natural larder remains sparse. Extra food can help restore birds to good condition for breeding and provide energy to mate, nest and raise chicks, especially if the weather is cold or wet.

Explore woodland mindfully: Spring is a fantastic time to explore the great outdoors as nature bounces back to life and shows off all its new colours and textures. You can help wildlife during your visit, including ground nesting birds and precious flowers, with simple actions like sticking to paths, keeping dogs on leads and taking litter home.

Obey speed limits: Watch out for animals crossing the road and take responsibility for an animal if you hit it with your car. The risk of encountering an animal on the road is greatest during dawn and dusk, as animals often travel in search of food at these hours. Learn more about wildlife behaviours in your surrounding so that you can try and avoid these types of accidents. For example, deer rarely travel alone, if you see one deer, there are likely to be several more on their way.

Wishing you all a happy Spring – you have made it through the darkest part of the year! And even though it is still cold in some places around the world, things will soon change. Enjoy the coming of the sun and please make sure to take actions to respect and support the wildlife around you.
