Amazon product review: Plus size pencil skirt

by Lina Clémence July 21, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

You never know what to expect when you are shopping online and especially with plus size clothing.  Finding quality, fitting fashionable items is difficult at best. The internet can surely mislead you with altered photos and what you actually receive is nothing like the photo.

I took a chance with Amazon hoping to find the perfect pencil skirt.  My issue is that I have a belly flap.  Better known as an “apron” as it’s sagging skin and belly fat that hangs rather than a rounded belly or flat stomach.  My waist is small, belly flap and then thick thighs make for a strange figure that clothing usually fits either too small at the hips or too big at the waist.

Here is what I ordered:

Here is how the skirt fit on me:

I admit, I may have ordered it a tad bit too big, but I would much rather have it be a little loose rather than too small to get into.  It’s comfortable, and it’s the perfect length!  This was a great purchase and I am so happy I took a chance with this pencil skirt!

Product Review: Celmonze The Signature Appelution Treatment

by Lina Clémence July 16, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

OK, I admit, it’s been a hot minute since I last went for a full-on facial. You’re meant to get your pores cleared and blackheads extracted at least once a month, but I haven’t had it done in a while (you really don’t wanna know how long it’s been), so suffice it to say, my skin’s been suffering.

I was approached by Celmonze The Signature and given the chance to try out their Appelution (anti-aging) treatment recently, and obviously I was game.

Celmonze the Signature

Celmonze is a Paris-based professional skincare salon, with research labs based in Europe and North America. They introduced Celmonze The Signature salons, which is currently celebrating its 2nd anniversary. They’ve launched a pretty interesting campaign in conjunction with their anniversary – “Where Beauty Meets Innovation”, featuring 3 successful women who have “successfully innovated themselves to achieve their goals in life”. Check the campaign out here if you’re interested, it features Carey Ng, Anjoe Koh and Shiha Zikir.

Celmonze’s extensive product range.

Back to the treatment, Appelution is an innovative facial treatment aimed at solving 5 skin problems –  dehydration, sagging, dull skin, pores and pigmentation. The treatment is based on and utilises swiss apple stem cell, derived from a special species of apple called Uttweiler Spatlauber. This treatment took 7 years of research to perfect. It is meant to make your skin look more youthful and luminous.
In case you were wondering, it’s needle-free (phew!). It uses a device called a Titanium Mesojet to deliver the skincare treatment deep into the skin. It feels like a very tiny massage device on your skin, and only stings the tiniest, teensiest little bit when the device hits your facial bones like the cheekbones.
I won’t bore you with the details, I’m sure you want the real-life treatment process instead, so here it goes.

When I first arrived, I was taken into consultation, where they analysed my skin with a micro-camera. They then decided that my skin was too sensitive and troubled (read: badly maintainted!) to proceed with the Appelution treatment from the get-go, so we started with 2 facial sessions first called ‘Medify’. These really helped clear out my pores, and cleanse and hydrate my skin. That took about 2 weeks to complete, and then I was ready for the Appelution treatment itself.

My consultation session with the micro-camera.
The facial rooms were extremely well-maintained (I visited their Sri Petaling branch) and clean, and the facial therapist was lovely. There’s an awesome hot stone massage at the end of each facial, and she immediately changed the pressure of my massage to suit me when I told her that her initial pressure was too strong for my liking.

In the treatment room

On to the facial itself. We started with the usual facial cleansing, massage, a light peeling exfoliator, and then my favourite – extraction (it just makes me feel like my skin is going to be so clean and fresh after). Once that was done, the actual treatment began. The Titanium Mesojet device was brought in, and the therapist started loading the treatments into the machine. All in all, there are 5 activators/concentrates that are applied to your skin – Fresh Makeover for hydration, Fast Recharger with antioxidants and to boost blood circulation, Quick Fixer to cover fine lines (yay!), Insta Younger to smooth pores, and Visi-Illuminator to boost the skin’s glow. Each activator is used for 1 facial session.

The application process was very quick, maybe about 10-20 minutes in total, and the entire facial was an hour long, so I definitely recommend this if you’re looking for a relaxing lunchtime skin-boost. There is no downtime for this facial – just bring along some makeup to touch up after you’re done and you’ll be ready to head back to the office with ‘glowier’ skin.

The Appelution treatment package

Once I was done, I was taken into consultation again to check on the progress of my skin. It was definitely instantly more glowy, it felt hydrated, and I felt friggin’ amazing after that hot stone massage. There are skincare products that come in little vials that you’re given to take back so you can maintain your skin after the facial, the Appelution Stem Cell Concentrate and the Appelution Power Repair – both to boost your skin’s youthfulness. There are also extra skincare products you can purchase if you want to – a Stem Cell Complex infused with Vitamin C and antioxidants, and a Lifting Flash Essence with hyaluronic acid to restore the skin’s elasticity and firmness.
It’s been a week since the facial, and I can definitely see how much smoother and firmer my skin has become. As far as my pores go, they’re slightly smaller, but they’re definitely still visible, and the makeup still settles in there (my pet peeve), but I’m still optimistic because they have actually shrunk in size a little, and that’s a win for me. I’ll keep an eye on them and see if there are any further improvements, but do bear in mind that even if a treatment shrinks your pores, they’re not gonna stay shrunk for long if you don’t upkeep your skin and go for monthly (at least) extraction facials (and yes, I am talking to myself when I say this!).
I’m really happy with my entire experience at Celmonze The Signature, and I will definitely be going back to get more facial treatments done. I’ll be releasing a more in-depth review of the Appelution treatment once I’ve had the chance to observe my skin a little bit more, and I will be sharing that soon.
A little comment about the “Where Beauty Meets Innovation” campaign – I think it was a wonderful idea for Celmonze The Signature to launch a campaign featuring beautiful (and I mean both inside and out), successful women, to encourage and inspire other women out there to innovate, create, and be the best version of themselves. Innovate yourself for the better, but don’t define your success by someone else’s idea of what success is. Achieve innovation and success on your own terms, in your own way.
If you’re interested in trying out the Appelution treatment for yourself, you can get a discount for the Appelution Flash Lifting Essence (60ml), Appelution Stem Cell Complex (30ml) and Complimentary Appelution Travel Kit (7pcs) – for RM388 instead of RM488. Also, if you sign up at this link below, you might stand a chance to win a free Appelution treatment for yourself worth RM680. Sign up and discount link below:

Alternatively, you could also try their Signature Facial Facelift Massage for just RM99 – it’s their best selling facial treatment and solves acne, sagging, pigmentation, and sensitive skin. The massage sets 7 types of facial muscles. Click here for more details:

Soko’s Most Buzzed-About Product of 2024 |

by Lina Clémence July 4, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Meet the IOPE PDRN Caffeine Shot Serum, the viral product taking TikTok and Instagram by storm. Known for its signature lifting, anti-aging and firming benefits, fans have dubbed it “filler in a bottle,” and “Botox in a bottle,” making it a great alternative to injectables.

From beauty influencers to skincare enthusiasts, social media is buzzing with impressive before-and-afters. This serum has sold out four times on sokoglam.com, earning its spot as a cult-favorite for radiant skin. Users rave about the serum’s ability to lift facial contours, soften fine lines, and deliver visible results in just a few weeks. Skincare influencers like Ashley Mixon swear by it, calling it their “go-to for glowing, lifted skin.”

What is PDRN?

Popular in Korea, PDRN injectables are traditionally derived from salmon DNA, and are a powerhouse ingredient known for its skin-repairing, regenerative, and anti-inflammatory benefits. IOPE has reimagined this iconic ingredient with Bio-PDRN — an innovative, vegan-friendly alternative. This plant-based formula offers many of the benefits of traditional PDRN, making it a game-changer in sustainable and effective skincare. The formula is also packed with 20,000 ppm of caffeine to revitalize tired skin.

Why We Love It

  • Lifting and Firming: The caffeine works to boost circulation and tighten sagging skin, especially around the cheeks, jawline, and mouth.
  • Anti-Aging Benefits: PDRN stimulates collagen production, improving skin elasticity and smoothing fine lines.
  • Hydration and Brightness: Strengthens the skin’s moisture barrier while reducing puffiness and dark circles.
  • Vegan and Gentle: Plant-based PDRN and a skin-friendly pH make it perfect for daily use, even with active ingredient

How to Incorporate It into Your Routine

After cleansing and toning, apply several drops of PDRN serum both morning and night, following with your moisturizer. Expect your skin to feel hydrated and firm within days, with visible improvements in elasticity and texture in as little as two weeks!

Budget beauty: Burt’s Bees lip product review

by Lina Clémence June 24, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

I often get asked for affordable natural make up recommendations and Burt’s Bees is one of my go to brands for accessible products that won’t break the bank. The brand is widely available across the US and Europe, I can find these products on the high-street and they also have a nice range of shades and finishes.
*Burt’s Bees Satin Lipsticks (£9.99)- Available in eighteen shades and with a moisturising finish, these lipsticks are 100% natural. I have two of the shades, both wearable for everyday and with a lovely creamy feel. The packaging feels very lightweight and is made of 60% recycled materials. The pigmentation is on the sheerer side but you can build them up if you choose.

Sunset cruise is a nude with a pink undertone and Blush basin is a nude with a brown undertone. The range also has some gorgeous berries and pinks and I would definitely like to try some of the darker shades to see how they compare.

*Burt’s Bees Matte Lip crayons (£9.99) – The Lip crayons come in two varieties, matte and gloss and I chose three of the matte colours. I am convinced I actually had four, but I can’t find the fourth, it is probably in a handbag somewhere. These are slightly more pigmented than the Lipsticks and the finish is less shiny although still very comfortable on the lips. I really like how easy these are to apply, they are extremely portable thanks to the crayon format and the packaging is sturdy.

Niagara overlook – A light coral colour, easy to wear, looks best with a slight tan.
Hawaiian Smoulder – True pink, nice for brightening up an every day look.
Napa Vineyard – A gorgeous red with blue undertones, gorgeous as a statement lip.

*Burt’s Bees Lip gloss and *Tinted lip balm

I also have one of the lip glosses and several of the lip balms. The tinted lip balms are fantastic for everyday wear if you just want a hint of colour and they feel nourishing on the lips thanks to the plant oils, beeswax and lanolin.

Although all of the products are natural and cruelty free (Currently owned by Clorox a parent company that does test but I double checked with Leaping Bunny and Logical Harmony who both class them as cruelty free) none of the Burt’s Bees lip products are suitable for vegans as they contain beeswax, lanolin and some contain carmine.

I really like Burt’s Bees for lip products at great prices, the branding and packaging is really lovely. I personally find them to be a nice gateway brand to natural beauty.

Your Skin Care Questions Answered By A Dermatologist – The Number 1 Product Is? – FORD LA FEMME

by Lina Clémence June 18, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Adult acne, signs of ageing, universal skincare must haves, is SPF really that important? A top dermatologist answers your questions.

As you know, I’ve been on a skincare journey of my own, trying to clear my hormonal acne with topical spironolactone, using products from Uncouth, which is a personalised, prescription skincare brand founded by a dermatology doctor.

Uncouth compound bespoke formulas using ingredients that you would only be able to get from a private dermatologist: like Tretinoin for anti-ageing, Hydroquinone for melasma, and of course, Spironolactone for hormonal breakouts.

I’ve been using their products for around 6 months now and I’m definitely seeing good results with my skin. It’s just so tricky to get hormonal acne completely under control! I’ve also tried a couple of their other active ingredient topical creams and I can safely say that they are definitely a power house!

I thought it would be a good idea to talk to one of the dermatologists at Uncouth (the lovely Emma) and get some answers on some of our important skincare concerns! Emma has been helping me with my treatments and is extremely knowledgeable, so I asked her some important questions that I think all of us want to know! I hope you all find this interview really useful. My questions are in bold, Emma’s answers are in plain text. Please do let me know if you have any questions as well!

25% Off Your First Order With My Referral Link

(Dermatologist Emma from Uncouth)

Lorna: What’s the most common skin complaint you encounter?

Emma: The most common concern I see is acne — and not just in teenagers. Adult acne, especially hormonal breakouts in women in their 30s, 40s and beyond, is incredibly common. I also see a lot of rosacea, melasma, pigmentation issues, and general concerns around ageing like fine lines, dullness, and skin texture.

That’s good to know! I’ve suffered from acne (mostly hormonal) since I was 14 years old. Do you have any useful tips for those of us struggling with acne?”

Absolutely — you’re not alone. Hormonal acne often flares around the jawline and chin, especially before periods, and can persist well into adulthood. A few key tips:

  • Stick to a simple, consistent routine. Overloading your skin with too many actives can worsen inflammation.
  • Ingredients like benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and azelaic acid can be helpful for mild to moderate cases in the first instance.
  • For hormonal or persistent acne, prescription treatments — such as topical retinoids or oral medications like spironolactone — often offer more lasting control.

Are there any specific products you recommend as a universal must-have?

Yes — SPF is the absolute non-negotiable. A broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher), worn daily, is your best defence against pigmentation, premature ageing, and skin cancer.

If you’re prone to melasma or pigmentation, I often recommend tinted sunscreens. These contain iron oxides, which offer extra protection against visible light — an often-overlooked trigger for melasma.

I prefer gentle cleansers, particularly balm cleansers, which cleanse effectively without stripping the skin barrier.

For dry or eczema-prone areas, simple ointment-based moisturisers — even something basic from Boots — can be incredibly effective. They often contain fewer preservatives than creams and do a better job at sealing in moisture.

I had no idea about iron oxides! What’s your number one skincare rule or tip?

Consistency over complexity. You don’t need a complicated routine — just a few well-chosen products, used regularly and correctly, make the biggest difference.

If you’re using a prescription retinoid it’s important to find the strength that suits your skin. Not everyone needs (or tolerates) the highest dose — it’s better to settle into a level that gives you results without irritation.

And finally — don’t wait until skin problems get severe to seek help. Early, evidence-based intervention can save a lot of stress later on.

What would be your recommended routine for those of us worried about signs of ageing?

For ageing concerns, focus on products that protect, stimulate renewal, and support the skin barrier:

Morning:

  • Gentle cleanse
  • Antioxidant serum (like vitamin C)
  • Moisturiser
  • Broad-spectrum SPF 30+ — every single day

Evening:

  • Cleanse (balm cleansers are great)
  • Prescription retinoid or over-the-counter retinol (build up slowly) you can combine or add in extra skin brightening ingredients like arbutin to increase efficacy. I’m a fan of antioxidants like Niacinamide and ferrulic acid.
  • Moisturiser to support the skin barrier

Hydration, consistent SPF, and a well-tolerated retinoid are your foundation.

Tretinoin seems to be a skincare ingredient that has gone viral too. Can you tell us more about this product and how it could be useful?

Tretinoin is a prescription-strength retinoid, a derivative of vitamin A. It’s one of the most well-researched and effective ingredients for treating acne, improving skin texture, and reducing signs of ageing. It works by increasing cell turnover, unclogging pores, and stimulating collagen production.

That said, not everyone needs the highest strength — irritation is common when starting. I recommend starting with a lower strength, using it a few nights per week, and building up gradually. And always pair it with SPF and moisturiser.

At Uncouth we have different bases available to suit different skin types and we can combine tretinoin with a variety of ingredients to improve results, minimise side effects and simplify your routine.

That’s great to hear! Is diet really that important when it comes to skin health too? What about our water consumption?

Diet does play a role — but it’s not about perfection. For acne, there’s growing evidence that high-glycaemic diets and excess dairy, can trigger breakouts in some people. However this is likely to be more of a contributory factor.

As for water: hydration is important, but drinking loads of water alone won’t magically clear your skin. Think of it as piece of the puzzle, alongside sleep, stress, skincare, and hormones.

I can vouch for that as dairy does break me out, as well as oily, sugary foods. Is it ok to wear make-up every day, or do you recommend having days off?

It’s absolutely fine to wear make-up daily, as long as you’re removing it thoroughly at night and using non-comedogenic products (formulated not to clog pores). Skin doesn’t need a “break” from make-up — but it does need good cleansing habits to stay healthy underneath.

Great! I do love make-up! And finally, do we all need to be using retinols/retinoids and multi-step routines, or is a simple cleanse and moisturise ok too?

You don’t need a 10-step routine to have healthy skin. A basic routine — cleanser, moisturiser, and SPF — is perfectly fine. That said, if you have specific concerns like acne, pigmentation or signs of ageing, then retinoids, antioxidants, and targeted actives can offer real benefits.

But it’s not “all or nothing.” Start simple, and only add products if they serve your skin’s needs. Skin care should feel sustainable, not overwhelming.

Thank you so much! This has been super helpful!

Product Review: Londontown Nail Polish

by Lina Clémence June 15, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Hi framily, I’m baaaack with a beauty product review! This time around I’m sharing my thoughts on Londontown Lakur nail polish.  This was my first time learning about Londontown products, so I was excited when they sent me some products to review.

I try my best to use clean beauty products when possible, so it was refreshing to learn that Londontown nail polish in 9-Free, which means they dont contain: Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, TPHP, Acetone, Ethyl Tosylamide, Xylene, DBP, Toulene,  and Camphor Vegan. So we’re keeping our beauty products like our circle of friends… toxin-free! These products are actually certified by PETA–yasss!

Londontown Kur Gel Genius Top Coat  & Base Coat

londontown-kur-gel-base-coat-gel-top-coat-product-review-nail-polish-9-free-vegan-beauty-black-yoga-mom

The  Londontown Kur Gel Genius Base Coat only needs one layer before applying the lakur colour and is a great way to extend your manicure . The Kur Gel Genius Top Coat is activated by natural light, so no need for UV lighting and it gives a high-shine, glossy finish.  It’s also fast-drying, which is a major bonus.

Londontown Lakur Enhanced Colour in the Shade Iconic

 londontown-lakur-iconic-product-review-nail-polish-9-free-vegan-beauty-black-yoga-mom

The Londontwon nail polish shade, Iconic, was an instant favorite of mine. Let me tell you–this nail polish color is definitely appropriately named because it stands out in a crown and is gorgeous!  It’s a vibrant, electric blue shade that is perfect for summer.  It looks fantastic against my darker complexion and has been my go-to summer shade (which is a big deal since I usually keep it simple with white on my toes!).

Londontown Lakur Enhanced Colour in the Shade Vendetta

londontown-lakur-vendetta-product-review-nail-polish-9-free-vegan-beauty-black-yoga-mom

I felt like a full-fledged diva wearing the Londontown nail polish shade, Vendetta. It’ a poppy red that’s an instant summer banger when it comes to poppin’ nail colors and it will definitely be in heavy rotation for summer pedis.

Final Thoughts on Londontown

londontown-product-review-9-free-vegan

I’m usually an in-salon gel mani kinda girl, but I think this is a great option for those in-between times.  I did experience some chipping on my toenails after about 4 days,  not sure if it’s because of my strenuous yoga and HIIT workouts or what, but it was easy to touchup.

You can shop all of these products here.

Have you tried Londontown nail products? What are you favorite shades?

Ciao Bellas,

The entire world is hopping onto the organic skincare trend, and for good reason. Products that are organic are safe for the skin, less likely to irritate sensitive skins, and gentle, yet effective. Today I’m reviewing a range of organic whitening products, so if you’re looking for bright, luminous, clear skin – you’re in the right place (or at least, reading the right article). Here we go.
Product

Organique by Olinda Spring is a skincare brand that formulates their products using the natural spring waters of Olinda, in Mt. Dandenong, Australia. The waters are not only naturally filtered and pure, they’re also mineral rich and supposedly good for health and highly beneficial to your skin. They’ve been making waves in Australia and beyond with their effective, natural, and affordable skincare, and they have, happily, reached Malaysian shores.
I received their entire whitening range. In this Whitening range there is the Gentle Cleanser, Multi-Active Toner, Facial Serum, Day Care Lotion, and Eye Cream. The range utilises Magnolia extract – high in antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, and prevents UV-induced pigmentation.
I have been using and testing the products over the past 3 weeks. My skin at the beginning of my trial was pretty good – dehydrated, but clear and even. I did have freckles and sun spots around my cheekbones and temples, and I was hoping to reduce their appearance with continued use of this range.
Packaging

What struck me immediately about Organique’s packaging was the high quality, despite the product’s price point. The bottles are made of a beautiful frosted glass and have the weight and feel of a luxury product. The pumps and covers all function beautifully and smoothly, and in these 3 weeks of use their functionality has remained top notch. I was incredibly pleased and impressed.
Performance
As is expected when you receive an entire range, I used all the products together in my daily skincare routine, only swapping out the day cream for a heavier, more hydrating moisturiser (the one I was using daily before trialling this range) at night.

The cleanser is foaming but doesn’t give you the kind of crazy foam that you get from most – I personally prefer this because I feel it doesn’t strip the skin as much.

I expected the lotion and day cream to be heavy and sticky, but they were both very lightweight and absorbed into the skin very quickly. My entire experience using the range was delightful and refreshing. The eye cream was slightly heavier, but still very lightweight, and almost felt like a heavier serum instead of a cream. This range is mildly scented, but I found it quite pleasant and the smell disappeared pretty quickly after application.
Verdict

After my 3 weeks of use, I’ve found that my skin is brighter and more luminous – there is this glow about it when it’s photographed, and my skin is less flaky in the dry areas around my cheeks and mouth. I haven’t noticed a significant reduction in the darkness of my freckles and sun spots, though I do think this range is much more effective at preventing the development of new spots than it is for removing pre-existing spots.
In my opinion, this is a beautiful starter range for anyone looking to begin an affordable, complete whitening skincare routine. It covers all the bases – great value for money, good hydration, good protection for the skin. If you’re looking to solve a more serious pigmentation problem, you might want to look at more extreme options instead (e.g. laser or peeling treatments).
