5 Tips on How to Shop While Losing Weight

by Lina Clémence July 27, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Hey, Y’all!!! I’m back and I hope your week has been going great! My week has been going well so far. I’m trying to stay more positive these days.

Today’s blog will be geared toward my weight loss journey. Being a fashion blogger, of course, I love to shop for new clothes. But while losing weight, I can’t buy a lot of things because I’m not at my goal weight. Right now, I’m currently trying to sell gently worn and new clothing that is too big for me right now and I refuse to make the same mistake. With online research and my personal experience, I will be giving yall some tips that would be helpful if you’re also having the same issue. I hope this will help us in our journey. Let’s get into it.

Tip #1: Edit your wardrobe to see what can be kept or given away.

This tip is very important. If you have a piece of clothing you do not want to part with such as a dress or jacket, you can easily get those tailored to your current size. I have blazers I could have kept and gotten altered, but I made the decision to sell them instead. Make sure to try on items you would love to keep. If not, then either donate or sell it. I love to find new pieces to mix and match with my current wardrobe to give it a new look. I will discuss that shortly.

Tip #2: Buy 2nd hand clothing.

This is one tip that is really helping me on this journey. I love shopping, but I refuse to spend a ton of money on new clothes just to resell them in a couple of months. You can’t go wrong with the pricing. Thrift stores are very inexpensive and I often find a ton of jewels whenever I go. I tend to go thrift shopping every couple of weeks. When it comes to shopping second-hand, you have to be able to see if the item will fit you. Some thrift stores also have dressing rooms if you would like to try them on. I shop at them so frequently I can easily tell if I can wear something or not.

Tip #3 Shop Clearance if possible.

As I mentioned above, you can shop for secondhand clothing. If you don’t like the option, you can also shop clearance at some of your favorite retailers. I love the clearance racks. Whenever stores are making room for upcoming season inventory, a lot of items will go on sale. The closer to the new season it is, the cheaper the prices. I always shop for spring and summer items after the season because the price will go down significantly. Retailers always set up new season inventory 2 seasons ahead of time.

Tip#4: Buy fitting clothes

You can’t always go by the size. As long as it fits comfortably, that’s the goal. Every brand’s sizing is different. Target jeans may differ from Old Navy jeans, I wear a 14 in a certain pair of jeans and a 16 in another, but that’s ok. You wear the clothes. The clothes don’t wear you. You will feel the most confident wearing clothes that fit you right at that moment. Plus, it also motivates you if you desire to wear a smaller size.

Tip #5 Make sure to take measurements when shopping online.

Shopping online while losing weight can be a challenge to some people. Make sure to take your current measurements and compare them to the brand’s measurements. You have to make sure you look at the measurements on every item. Also, check the material. For example, 100& polyester normally don’t have any stretch. If it says 95% polyester and 5% spandex, it does have stretch, Also, online stores will normally have information stating the stretch level in the description section of each clothing item. Paying attention to small details like that will help tremendously.

These are the tips I’ve learned along the way during this journey. They have really helped me out a lot. I have 20 more pounds to go until I reach my goal weight and I look forward to shopping more and building my wardrobe up once again. If yall have any questions, feel free to reach out on here or any of my platforms. I work a 9-5, so be patient with me. I will reply soon as I get a break. This is a journey I’m glad to be on and getting healthy is very important. Until next time fashionistas, LaKedra is out!

How to Successfully and Stylishly Shop Secondhand — FASHION me GREEN

by Lina Clémence July 15, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Shopping secondhand is the most sustainable way you can shop. Simply put, buying something that already exists and giving it a second lifecycle (or third or fourth!) is far more sustainable than even producing a new piece using eco methods.

I love to shop this way because you find more unique and often very high quality goods at a fraction of the cost and you know you’re doing your part to help the environment too. It’s a win win! Check out this week’s video where I pull pieces from one of my favorite secondhand shops, WomenFolk in Jackson, WY. And, as always, I’d love t hear how you’re shopping sustainably too, and if you have any secondhand stores or sites you can recommend to the community. xx

PS: Here are some links to the eco outerwear I shared at the beginning of the video. 😉

Home to many different types of artwork, the gallery emphasizes choice. “You can find pictures, screen prints, photos, sculptures, murals, and more. But the important part is that you choose to give life to something, and we will be glad that you decided to make that object yours.”

Shop the Sales, Sustainably – Fashion Hound

by Lina Clémence June 19, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

We all love a bargain, i do too, especially in this current economic climate. Sale season is upon us and it can be a great time to grab a bargain, yes, but i say do it mindfully. So here are 5 tips to shop the sales sustainably

1. Shop your closet

Before you set foot in any store or click add to cart, check what you have in your wardrobe first.

Could you restyle it, crop it, customise or embellish it…because the most sustainable outfit is the one you already have right there in your wardrobe. Seriously you’ll be surprised what’s possible with what you already have. Take a scroll through pinterest and create some moodboards, head to my socials for tips and tricks, read books and magazines. Inspiration is all around us

@fayedelanty How to shoo the sales, sustainbly ♻️???????????? #slowfashionmovement #opshopulence #blackfridayshopping #shopthesales ♬ original sound – Faye De Lanty-Thrift Ninja

2. Write a wish list

After exploring your closet first, take 5 and jot down what you actually need or want to gift someone else. There is no point just buying a bunch of stuff because it’s cheap, be intentional about it, what will truly add value to your life or someone you love. I like to say STOP before you Shop – keeps me accountable plus i don’t waste my hard earned cash.

3. Ask questions of the brands you like to shop

Do they have a sustainability section on their website? Are they transparent with how their clothes are made? Enquire directly or use the GOOD ON YOU APP to uncover more about the brands you buy from. As consumers we have the power to vote with our fashion dollar so my suggestion is to choose brands doing good for people and the planet.

Second hand style at Salvos Stores

There are so many beautiful things to be found in second hand shops like Salvos Stores, you never have to sacrifice style plus your purchase supports local community members doing it tough.

5. Circularity is the new chic –

Thrifting aside, shop small business, vintage, rent from a store like my friend Emily at Ekoluv, have things made by a local tailor or even set up a swap party with friends.

How are you are putting more mindfulness around your shopping habits?

Don’t Shop at Quince Until You Read This Unsponsored Review

by Lina Clémence June 11, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Wondering if Quince is legit or worth it? I placed two orders with Quince over the past couple of years—here’s everything you need to know before buying.

From cashmere sweaters to linen pants, I’ve tested several pieces from Quince firsthand. Below, you’ll find quick takeaways, close-up photos of the materials, and a detailed Quince review including sizing, fabric care, quality, and my overall experience as a repeat customer.

  • Good value for the price
  • High-quality materials: cashmere, cotton poplin, linen
  • Cashmere shrinks in the wash – dry clean or hand-wash only
  • Classic, wearable silhouettes
  • Sizing can be inconsistent—consider sizing down
  • I would order again (and have!)

Shop Quince > if you’re ready to browse, or keep reading the full Quince clothing review if you want to learn more.

Quince Fabrics: What I Bought & How They Wore Over Time

I’ve purchased items for myself, my husband, and my son, including:

  • Poplin cotton skirt (thick and crisp)
  • Linen pants (breathable and lightweight)
  • Cashmere sweater (soft and luxe, but shrinks if washed!)
  • Athletic shorts + dry-fit tees (comfortable, moisture-wicking)
  • Cotton tank: not great, it didn’t retain its shape

The quality is pretty consistent across most categories—materials feel elevated and better than what you’d expect at this price point.

My lightweight cashmere sweater shrank nearly two sizes in the wash. It’s still wearable (and I still wear it weekly), but I recommend dry cleaning or gently hand washing cashmere pieces from Quince to avoid shrinkage and pilling.

The photos are pre-wash. You can see the knit is really lightweight with a fair amount of space between the stitching. After a wash, those airy spaces disappeared and my sweater is about two sizes smaller. Note to the wise, don’t machine wash the cashmere.

A closeup of Quince manufacturing: good quality for the price range, and the pieces look more expensive than they cost.

Aside from the fabrics, a closeup of the manufacturing looks clean–no loose threads or uneven stitching. Combined with the high quality materials, I consider Quince a good quality for the price range. I’ve purchased items that cost more, and have worse quality.

Styles notes: Quince styles are not super modern, but timeless and easy to style.

I wouldn’t consider Quince “on top” of the trends. They’re not a fast-fashion retailer. If you’re looking for in-the-moment fashion, check out this MANGO review for some unique fashion pieces, or shop your staples at Zara.

If you’re looking for trendy or fashion-forward styles, Quince might feel a little plain. But if you want quality basics that won’t go out of style, their pieces are easy to mix and match.

Fit & Sizing Guide: What to Know Before You Buy

Quince sizing can be hit-or-miss:

  • Poplin skirt (XS): fit loose—barely stays up, but I kept it
  • Cashmere sweater (M): fit perfectly until I machine-washed it
  • Tank tops: a bit loose and didn’t retain shape
  • Linen pants: good fit, size down if between sizes

Tip: Try a size smaller than your usual, especially for bottoms and tops with stretch.

Would I buy Quince again? Absolutely.

Quince is on my quick-grab rack, I wear the pieces (even the shrunken cashmere sweater) on the weekly. Despite the minor issues (like cashmere care and sizing variance), Quince is one of my go-to places for affordable, high-quality wardrobe staples. I check in every season for updated core items.

Don’t expect luxe packaging or extra frills. Just simple, well-made clothes for women, men, and kids—at fair prices.

Custom Made Hats by Designer Stephanie Ripa — Shop Hop Buenos Aires

by Lina Clémence June 1, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

When asked about the origin of her brand, she recalls her late grandmother whom she names the brand after. “I am licensed in psychology, and I started taking classes in sombrería as a side hobby. It had nothing to do with my career back then. When I visited my grandmother in Spain during her last days, I spent so much time reading her letters in her home. I came up with the idea of creating hat-making classes because she had signed up for a course that she was never able to attend. Hats were an accessory that she liked very much.” With these new ideas in mind, Stephanie returned to Buenos Aires and turned this hobby into her current job and main passion.
