Sunday, December 23, 2018

What is it about the holiday season and the pressure to sparkle like a disco ball? LOL Trust me, I love a good sparkle, but this year I’m going comfy and cute because I have been so busy and rushed that the only thing I want to wear is something soft!

I’ve partnered with Christopher & Banks to share with you my favorite outfits for the cute and still comfy holiday party. Style doesn’t have to come at the cost of quality and comfort and that is why I always love Christopher & Banks. If you have seen my Facebook Lives with them, you’ll know the things you can always count on them for is quality, generous sizing and comfort.

Option one is a classic skirt look that you can’t go wrong with.

Rule: Never don’t buy the pleated skirt. It’s a purchase you can NEVER regret. Honestly, they are so hard to find and when I saw this one, it was a yes immediately. Love the pattern and that you could pair a bright color top, even red with it or go sleek in white and black like I did here.

This simple white top has the perfect amount of accent with the sleeve detail. I love it because it adds just that tad bit of finish.

Shop the Outfit:
Pleated Skirt – I’m wearing size 24W. It has very little stretch and I feel like it does feel true to size.
White Top

More perfect comfy & stylish looks from Christopher & Banks.

Get an outfit you can enjoy this holiday as well as work and play through out the year. Happy almost 2019!

 One  /  Two  /  Three  /  Four  /  Five  /  Six  /  Seven  /  Eight

So, who is joining me on the comfy-stylish holiday bus? I’m saving a seat for you :).

Xx
Jessica

Should a World Class Boxer Have a Plus Size Girlfriend: Why You Should Mind Your Damn Business

by Lina Clémence June 11, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

The internet is a vast realm where the good, the bad, and the ugly coalesce. While its utility is undeniable, the darker side of the digital landscape rears its ugly head far too often. A prime example of this is the recent vitriolic episode involving suspended boxer Tyan Booth, who shamelessly trampled over personal boundaries by passing derogatory comments about world champion boxer Terence Crawford’s girlfriend, Alindra Person. It’s high time we address the toxic inclination of nosing into people’s personal lives and hurling baseless insults.

Booth’s thoughtless remark, plastered across social media, questioned whether a world champion like Terence Crawford should have a “fat” girlfriend. The audacity of such a statement is astonishing, as it reflects a distressing disregard for the privacy and feelings of those involved. Despite its callousness, the comment managed to attract the attention of Twitter users and boxing enthusiasts, including the very people it targeted.

Even American boxer Jamel Herring, rather than admonishing Booth for his lack of decency, chose to add fuel to the fire, a disappointing display of how low some individuals are willing to stoop. The rapid spread of such negativity is a testament to the darker side of the internet – a breeding ground for trolls and troublemakers.

What’s more appalling is the fact that these reprehensible remarks garnered any attention at all. While everyone is entitled to their opinion, it is essential to recognize the thin line between expressing one’s thoughts and openly demeaning someone based on their appearance. It is a sad day when an individual’s accomplishments and character are overshadowed by the shallow judgments of others.

Alindra Person, a woman who should never have been subjected to such public humiliation, received an outpouring of support from fans online. It is heartening to see people rallying against such deplorable behavior. Yet, the question remains: why should such negativity even exist in the first place?

Tyan Booth’s track record of insensitivity and past suspension by the British Boxing Board of Control for his callous remarks only compounds the issue. When will we collectively realize that dragging innocent family members into personal rivalries is a stain on human decency? Crawford and his fans demonstrated commendable restraint in their responses, but such a situation should never have occurred.

Terence Crawford is a renowned boxer, a master of his craft who has achieved greatness in the welterweight division. His prowess in the ring should not become a platform for unwarranted scrutiny of his personal life. The fact that he has a loving partner, Alindra Person, and six children, speaks to his character and values outside the ring. It is a shame that rather than acknowledging this, the focus is directed toward thoughtless comments about appearance.

Alindra Person, a dedicated partner and mother, has been thrust into the spotlight undeservingly. Her life, her choices, and her appearance are her business, not public fodder. It is disappointing that society’s obsession with appearances has led us to a point where a person’s worth is measured in inches and pounds rather than in their kindness, integrity, and contributions.

In conclusion, let this serve as a scathing reminder that meddling in the personal affairs of others, particularly in a derogatory and baseless manner, is a despicable act. Terence Crawford’s achievements should be celebrated in the ring, and his personal life respected outside of it. Alindra Person, like any other individual, deserves the right to live her life without becoming a victim of internet vitriol. Unfortunately, for some men this is the reason they are afraid to love anyone outside of “what is expected.” Some might even forget this detail…you know that people are attracted to a wide variety of bodies.

Plus Size Swimwear Series: Tankinis –

by Lina Clémence June 8, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

This post may contain affiliate links. Affiliate links allow Fatgirlflow to earn commissions on products we recommend. All opinions are our own.

I think it is safe to say that nearly every fat person has been traumatized by a tankini at some point. For me, it was a real source of shame to wear a tankini at the pool when all my friends were in bikinis. I was being told to wear one to cover up my stomach, so it never really dawned on me that I could actually like the style for any other reason. Fast forward a few decades and a lot of therapy and self-love work later, and I can now finally view tankinis as a cute option. Yay for growth! There are so many cute tankinis out there this season, and I can’t wait to share them with you!

Whether you love the flexibility of mixing and matching or just prefer a little extra sun protection and coverage, tankinis are a game-changer. From sporty and supportive to flirty and fun, I’m breaking down the best places to shop for plus-size tankinis—because you deserve options in ALL styles of swimwear!

Where to Shop for Plus Size Tankinis:

BloomChic | 6X-M

BloomChic knows that plus-size fashion should be effortless, stylish, and affordable—and their swimwear is no exception. Their tankinis stand out for trendy prints, adjustable fits, and built-in support, making them a solid pick for anyone who wants a little extra structure in their swimwear.

Lands’ End | 26W-16W

Lands’ End has long been a go-to for high-quality, long-lasting swimwear for so many. I was so impressed by all the interesting prints and necklines they offer. Keep in mind that this brand doesn’t have quite the size range of our others on the list when shopping. Lands’ End, we would love to see y’all expand those sizes!

Lane Bryant | 32-12

Lane Bryant’s Cacique swimwear is all about stylish, functional, and confidence-boosting pieces designed specifically for plus size bodies. Their tankinis offer bra-sized support and mix-and-match styles, so you can create a look that works specifically for you.

Old Navy | 4X-XS

Old Navy keeps it cute, casual, and budget-friendly with their selection of plus-size tankinis. They offer classic silhouettes (well, as of right now, it’s one classic silhouette in different color/pattern options) with lots of support without being restrictive.

Superfit Hero | 7X – L

Superfit Hero sells high-quality activewear that moves with you, so it should be no surprise that their swimwear carries that same goal. Although the selection is limited, their tankinis are designed for comfort, durability, and full range of motion, making them an excellent pick for water workouts, beach days, or just feeling secure in your suit. Plus, their ethical and inclusive approach (with sizes up to 7X!) makes them a standout brand in the plus size swimwear space.

Ulla Popken | 30-12

Ulla Popken brings European elegance to plus-size swimwear, offering sophisticated designs, supportive fits, and high-quality fabrics. If you’re looking for a sleek, polished plus size tankini for a little extra coverage, this brand is definitely worth checking out.

Walmart | 3X-S

Walmart’s Time and Tru brand has affordable, comfortable swimwear in extended sizes, proving that you don’t have to spend a fortune to get a great tankini. Their designs lean towards classic, easy-to-wear styles, perfect for lounging by the pool or being active

Tankinis offer the perfect blend of style and versatility, giving you more control over your swimwear look and comfort. Remember, more coverage doesn’t automatically mean you are trying to hide your body. Check in with yourself about what makes you most comfortable and go from there. Happy swimsuit shopping! Plus size guide to summer fashion with Karen Millen

by Lina Clémence June 4, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Written by

Lauren Nicole Coppin Campbell

This article is in collaboration with Karen Millen.

Shopping as a plus-size woman has felt more like a nightmare task than a leisure activity for far too long. When very few brands care to invest in their curve collections, the mission to find pieces that are of high quality, fairly affordable and on-trend is a feat. But, things are beginning to change. More and more brands are noticing an overwhelming demand, and as a result, are extending their lines and introducing curve collections. But who should be on your radar? Well, it just so happens to be Karen Millen.

Known for their occasion wear and chic silhouettes, the retailer has branched out and created a range of curve pieces available in size 18 to 24. No more are the days of settling for outdated styles that make you feel far more mature than you are or the other extreme of overly sexy styles and silhouettes that don’t always work for everyday looks. Karen Millen is filling a massive gap in the market by providing styles that take inspiration from what we see on the runway and in magazines. Thereby giving the fat fashion babes exactly what they need. So, I’ve pulled together some of my favourite looks that I think could work for you this season, no matter the occasion.

Pop of colour

As someone who is a proud member of the “go bold or go home” committee, there’s no better time than Spring/Summer to wear colour and Karen Millen isn’t lacking. Forget the muted tones and add a pop of colour into the mix, like this jumpsuit. Not only will you gorgeous in the sunshine, but it’s scientifically proven that wearing colour helps to boost moods. So, why not wear something that quite literally could spark joy? For some fun styling, I’ve mixed some prints by including my beloved Zebra print bag and gingham mules to take the look to the next level.

SHOP: Curve Luxe Gold Trim Detail Jumpsuit, £107.40, Karen Millen; Bow High Heeled Mules In Gingham, £35, ASOS.

Safari Chic

But if colour isn’t your thing. Allow me to introduce you to my friend. The safari chic trend is one that’s been around for years and, much like florals, pops up ever so often, and while many of us might not be going on the safari trip, we’ve always dreamed of. The chic adventurer style is happening, and it’s happening now. Thankfully for us curvy girls, Karen Millen has us sorted. Offering various styles from belted shirts to pleated dresses, KM is giving the girls sandy toned goodness this season. If this trend is exciting your inner traveller, I’d suggest creating a monochromatic look this season. Like the fashion IT girls of last season, try creating a head-to-toe beige/brown look. I’d advise incorporating lighter colours, but there’s no harm in keeping it dark this season.

Show off those legs

One of the difficult parts of entering Summer is the amplified body image issues many experience. Unfortunately, warmer weather can cause anxiety and trigger self-esteem issues. But this year, I’m really championing stepping outside of your comfort zone. As much as I worry about the appearance of my cellulite, stretch marks and stomach, the one thing I’ve learnt in the last year is just how short life is. Despite the hang ups I have around my body, I never want to look back on a moment and regret not experiencing, doing or wearing what I wanted. It’s minuscule in the grand scheme of things, but I know firsthand what it’s like to not want to go somewhere or wear something in fear that I’ll be judged. And this year it stops.

So, this summer, step out of your comfort zone! That doesn’t mean wear all the things you ‘hate’ at once but start slowly. A great way to do that is by incorporating more skirts into your wardrobe. As silly as it may sound to some, wearing a skirt can be a daunting experience. But as we start to make a conscious effort to own our bodies, wearing the things that once made us feel uncomfortable can become an empowering action. If you’re wondering where to begin, Karen Millen has a great selection of skirts. From denim to a-line, knit and mini, here are some of the best KM have on offer.

While the plus-size fashion industry still has a long way to go, the launch of Karen Millen’s curve collection feels like a step in the right direction. Rather than creating styles that can’t be found in their main range. The curve collection mirrors the style and feel of the main range. I look forward to seeing what’s next from the brand.

Ozempic and the After Effects of Covid: A Grim Forecast for the Future of Plus Size Fashion?

by Lina Clémence June 4, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

The world of fashion has long been a dynamic and ever-evolving industry, reflecting societal trends and cultural shifts. As the co-founder of theCURVYcon and a catalyst for change in the evolution of plus size fashion, I’ve found myself concerned that a lot of the work my colleagues and I have done appears to dramatically been undone in just a swift few years.  Plus size fashion was once barreling towards being this bustling industry and now has taken a hard hit of progression and seems to be moving backwards. Recent developments have thrown a shadow of uncertainty over the future of one particular niche: plus size fashion. The convergence of two distinct factors—Ozempic, a weight loss medication, and the lingering aftereffects of the Covid-19 pandemic—has raised concerns about the potential challenges that lie ahead for this industry. This article delves into the potential implications of these combined influences and examines whether a grim forecast awaits the future of plus size fashion.

Ozempic: A Game-Changer in Weight Management

Ozempic, a brand name for semaglutide, is a medication primarily used to treat type 2 diabetes. It has garnered attention not only for its efficacy in managing blood sugar levels but also for its potential to aid in weight loss. Clinical trials have shown that Ozempic can lead to significant weight reduction in individuals without diabetes as well. While this might be celebrated as a breakthrough in combating obesity, it poses a unique challenge for the plus size fashion industry.

The rise of Ozempic as a weight management tool has the potential to reshape the demographics of the plus size fashion market. What makes Ozempic different from Weight Loss Surgery is it’s accessibility in cost and it’s a much less drastic option to lose weight making it a much easier option to try. As individuals experience weight loss due to the medication, they may transition out of the plus size category, leading to a smaller customer base for this segment. This shift could compel fashion retailers and designers to reevaluate their business strategies and product offerings, potentially resulting in a decreased focus on plus size options. Consequently, the very existence of dedicated plus size fashion lines could be at stake. I think it’s important for people to get their health in check, I ponder if this is the writing on the wall for the industry as a whole and because of a shrinking market do the people who still need plus size clothing get what need.

Covid-19’s Lingering Effects

The Covid-19 pandemic wreaked havoc on numerous industries, fashion being no exception. Supply chain disruptions, temporary and permanent closures of brick-and-mortar stores, and changing consumer behaviors significantly impacted the fashion world. Even as the pandemic recedes, its aftereffects continue to reverberate. The uncertainty and economic challenges left in its wake have reshaped consumer priorities and spending habits. The once profitable work wardrobe is no longer a necessity that is once was shrinking consumer spending on clothing.

As the world emerges from the pandemic, the fashion industry is grappling with changed perceptions of body image and fashion aesthetics. Lockdowns and social isolation prompted individuals to reevaluate their priorities, including health and well-being. This shift in mindset could lead to increased demand for healthier lifestyles and weight management solutions like Ozempic, further influencing the plus size fashion landscape.

Navigating the Uncertain Terrain

While the combined influence of Ozempic and Covid-19’s aftermath presents a potentially grim outlook for plus size fashion, there are avenues for adaptation and growth. Fashion designers and retailers can respond to changing consumer needs by focusing on inclusivity and diversity. Instead of solely catering to a specific size range, they can embrace a broader range of body types and provide clothing options that resonate with various stages of weight management.  This was the world that many wanted to create with full size range instead of separated sections of misses and plus.

Moreover, collaborations between the health and fashion industries could yield innovative solutions. Designers could partner with healthcare professionals to create adaptive clothing lines that accommodate individuals undergoing weight changes due to medications like Ozempic. This approach not only addresses the evolving needs of consumers but also fosters a more holistic and empathetic approach to fashion.  As person who’s lost 160ish pounds I used services like Rent the Runway while in transition to supplement my wardrobe in a cost effective way.

The intersection of Ozempic and the lingering effects of Covid-19 has cast a shadow of uncertainty over the future of plus size fashion. As individuals increasingly turn to weight management solutions and embrace healthier lifestyles, the landscape of the plus size market may shift. However, this transformation need not signal the demise of plus size fashion. By embracing inclusivity, diversity, and collaboration, the industry can navigate the evolving terrain and create a future that caters to the needs and aspirations of all individuals, regardless of size or circumstance.

Kirstie Alley: Beautiful At Any Size

by Lina Clémence June 1, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Body positivity came far too late.

But reflections on how things were can be painful, a fire consuming your soul in a slow burn that lasts a lifetime. Diet culture is toxic. Terrifying. Harmful in ways that are too difficult to put into words.

I wish Oprah and Kirstie had had the support of the body positive movement back in those days. Things would have been different. Influencers would have been standing up saying, “Hey, you’re beautiful.”

Think of the tears they shed, body shamed day after day until they were forced to take drastic measures. I can’t imagine the sense of failure they must’ve felt.

For most of us, it’s impossible to understand the pain of being shamed by thousands of people. I still remember seeing a picture of Kirstie that had been taken at an unflattering angle with a headline saying “Fired for Being Too Fat.” Yes, that was an actual National Enquirer headline. It’s bad enough having people around you making judgments, much less tabloids.

It wasn’t OK to simply be yourself. Women hadn’t yet stood up to say, “Enough is enough. We deserve to be celebrated just as we are.”

Now, we have celebrities like Lizzo and Ashley Graham who are essentially saying, “Screw diet culture. You are OK. You’re beautiful just as you are.”

We have cover models like Tess Holliday showing that you don’t have to be a size 2, or even a size 10, to grace the cover of a major magazine. You don’t have to be any size at all. You just have to be you.

We have publications like Curvicality that are specifically dedicated to the body positive movement, to showing real women with real bodies. To celebrate beauty in every stretch mark instead of trying to hide the art that is the ever-changing human body.

But we still have a long way to go. The days of body shame are far from gone. We must continue to push to make sure that no one is shamed the way Kirstie and Oprah were. Both of these amazing women were beautiful at any weight. Size does not determine beauty.

So today, we celebrate Kirstie’s memory. We love you, Kirstie Alley! You contributed to opening the eyes of society. Your smile, talent, comedy and charisma will shine on forever.

And for the record, you were a damn beautiful fat actress.

One Plus Size Outfit, Three Ways

by Lina Clémence May 31, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

When it comes to my personal style, I’m all about ease and versatility. My go-to? A classic co-ord set that I can mix and match for endless looks! This NYFW, I hosted an event for Naturalizer– we spoke a lot about inclusivity and cultivating confidence in women (my favorite things!). For the occasion, I rocked monochromatic look with a pom pom co-ord set, I love knowing this outfit will get lots of wear because I can mix and match its pieces with jeans, a denim top, or my new favorite fall boots for three different chic outfits.

Want to refresh your fall wardrobe? Grab some fabulous fall boots, rotate them with your co-ord set, and you’re ready to slay all season long! Keep scrolling and I’ll show you how!

For reference my sizes are: Height: 5’10, Top: size 14, Bottom: size 18, Shoe: 11 wide.

For this outfit you will need:

If you’d like to mix and match this set to create more outfits, you will need:

Let’s talk about these booties real quick— Naturalizer is giving us everything this season with their extra-wide fit, so you know my size 11 wide feet are comfy and stylish all day long. These white kitten heel booties are an absolute must-have! I got a size 11 EXTRA WIDE to give room for thick winter socks.
Now, this pom pom sweater set? Stretchy, cozy, and so fun! I got the biggest size available, the XL/XXL, But let me give you a tip—while the waistband on this skirt doesn’t slide over my hips from below (thanks, size 18 curves), popping it on over my head works perfectly. #TallGirlHack for all my 5’10+ stallions out there— if the skirt feels to short, a pair of tights will give you a bit of modesty

#NYFW vibes in full swing, and we’re officially ready for sweater weather!

All my love,

CeCe
