3 Tips to Get Your Kids Out the Door Faster (From a Mom Who Gets It)

by Lina Clémence July 30, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Let’s be real…leaving the house with kids isn’t just “grabbing your keys.” It’s a full-blown production.

And while I haven’t cracked the code completely (because toddlers and time management don’t mix).

These three tips have truly made things easier in our house, and they might help in yours too.

Pack the Baby Bag the Night Before

I know, I know. You’re tired. Me too. But taking 10 minutes after bedtime to prep outfits, pack snacks, and stash the essentials makes all the difference. I also set out their clothes in their room (one outfit for my 6-year-old, one for my toddler) and put bags by the door.

Give Them Something to Look Forward To

Let’s be honest…kids don’t move faster just because you’re in a rush. But giving them something to get excited about can speed things up.

For example:

“After we get in the car, you can pick a song to play.”

“Once we’re buckled up, you get your snack!”

Create a “Grab and Go” Station by the Door

This was a game-changer. I set up a small basket near the door with must-haves: socks, hair ties, wipes, snacks, and sunscreen. That way, I’m not running back upstairs for a missing bow or digging through drawers while the baby’s halfway into her car seat.

I hope these tips help you get out the door without a meltdown (from them or you)?

5 Tips on How to Shop While Losing Weight

by Lina Clémence July 27, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Hey, Y’all!!! I’m back and I hope your week has been going great! My week has been going well so far. I’m trying to stay more positive these days.

Today’s blog will be geared toward my weight loss journey. Being a fashion blogger, of course, I love to shop for new clothes. But while losing weight, I can’t buy a lot of things because I’m not at my goal weight. Right now, I’m currently trying to sell gently worn and new clothing that is too big for me right now and I refuse to make the same mistake. With online research and my personal experience, I will be giving yall some tips that would be helpful if you’re also having the same issue. I hope this will help us in our journey. Let’s get into it.

Tip #1: Edit your wardrobe to see what can be kept or given away.

This tip is very important. If you have a piece of clothing you do not want to part with such as a dress or jacket, you can easily get those tailored to your current size. I have blazers I could have kept and gotten altered, but I made the decision to sell them instead. Make sure to try on items you would love to keep. If not, then either donate or sell it. I love to find new pieces to mix and match with my current wardrobe to give it a new look. I will discuss that shortly.

Tip #2: Buy 2nd hand clothing.

This is one tip that is really helping me on this journey. I love shopping, but I refuse to spend a ton of money on new clothes just to resell them in a couple of months. You can’t go wrong with the pricing. Thrift stores are very inexpensive and I often find a ton of jewels whenever I go. I tend to go thrift shopping every couple of weeks. When it comes to shopping second-hand, you have to be able to see if the item will fit you. Some thrift stores also have dressing rooms if you would like to try them on. I shop at them so frequently I can easily tell if I can wear something or not.

Tip #3 Shop Clearance if possible.

As I mentioned above, you can shop for secondhand clothing. If you don’t like the option, you can also shop clearance at some of your favorite retailers. I love the clearance racks. Whenever stores are making room for upcoming season inventory, a lot of items will go on sale. The closer to the new season it is, the cheaper the prices. I always shop for spring and summer items after the season because the price will go down significantly. Retailers always set up new season inventory 2 seasons ahead of time.

Tip#4: Buy fitting clothes

You can’t always go by the size. As long as it fits comfortably, that’s the goal. Every brand’s sizing is different. Target jeans may differ from Old Navy jeans, I wear a 14 in a certain pair of jeans and a 16 in another, but that’s ok. You wear the clothes. The clothes don’t wear you. You will feel the most confident wearing clothes that fit you right at that moment. Plus, it also motivates you if you desire to wear a smaller size.

Tip #5 Make sure to take measurements when shopping online.

Shopping online while losing weight can be a challenge to some people. Make sure to take your current measurements and compare them to the brand’s measurements. You have to make sure you look at the measurements on every item. Also, check the material. For example, 100& polyester normally don’t have any stretch. If it says 95% polyester and 5% spandex, it does have stretch, Also, online stores will normally have information stating the stretch level in the description section of each clothing item. Paying attention to small details like that will help tremendously.

These are the tips I’ve learned along the way during this journey. They have really helped me out a lot. I have 20 more pounds to go until I reach my goal weight and I look forward to shopping more and building my wardrobe up once again. If yall have any questions, feel free to reach out on here or any of my platforms. I work a 9-5, so be patient with me. I will reply soon as I get a break. This is a journey I’m glad to be on and getting healthy is very important. Until next time fashionistas, LaKedra is out!

7 Tips Menjaga Kulit Wajah Dari Paparan Sinar Blue Light Saat Ngonten dan Main Game

by Lina Clémence July 22, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Stay In and Stay Safe – Some Self-Care Tips if You’re Struggling with Isolation! – All Things Aesthetic

by Lina Clémence July 21, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Hey guys! I hope you’re all staying safe in light of recent events. It’s a scary world right now, and I know that I’ve been feeling stressed, so my emails/comments are open if you need anyone to talk to (you can drop me a message here). While we are all staying in, I know that I will probably revert to a little bit of online shopping and I have a code for you guys if you wanna engage in some retail therapy while in isolation! A few weeks ago I was fortunate enough to do an interview with Today’s Lifestyle, which you can read here. They have very kindly given me a code to use on their website, which hosts a fabulous range of skincare and haircare products:

1. (TDLS50) to get 50% DISCOUNT on the first purchase.
2. (TOP10BLOGGERS) for 10% DISCOUNT on the second purchase.

So I am currently pretty much in isolation due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak and it means I am actually stuck on my own in my uni room most of the time as all lectures are now being delivered online and I have to work from home. To keep calm, I would usually go to the gym and do a bit of sport, but my gym has closed and netball is called off. It’s great that measures are being taken to keep us safe, and I urge you to comply, but it can be really overwhelming. I’ve been struggling being on my own over the past few days, so I’m going to share some tips I have used to keep me calm.

Step 1 – Skincare

Just to confirm, I am in noooo way suggesting that you can cope with this outbreak by taking care of your skin. However, if you’re stuck in isolation it is so easy to feel sluggish, run down and, quite frankly, a little gross. Because of this, I am making sure I stick to my routine of cleanse/tone/moisturise so I at least feel slightly human. I am also using a nice facemask a couple of times a week which I have always found nice and relaxing. Some of my faves are:

Step 2 – Home Workouts

Staying active has always helped keep me calm when I am stressed, and I have been finding it really tricky not being able to go to the gym at the moment with everything that’s going on. As such, I have taken to doing some home workouts in my uni room. My advice would be to order yourself a couple of resistance bands (which can be purchased here) and search up some good online home workouts. One of my favourites can be found here.

Step 3 – Home Nail Treatments

So, I don’t know about you, but I always feel a bit better when I have my nails done. I’ve spoken about how I do my own gel nails before, and this week has been the perfect time to have a little pamper. You can buy your gel lamp here for £10, and you can click this link here to buy the shade Cashmere, which I am using. As it is quite a time consuming process which requires concentration, it is actually really therapeutic and can help take your mind off the worries of the outside world.

Step 4 – Talk to People and Stay Off Social Media

If you’ve been online recently, you have probably noticed that social media is filled with scary, and often fake, news. Have a little social media cleanse during this period definitely only listen to reliable sources for facts surrounding the pandemic. I’ve found the constant discussion of something which I am fearful of so draining, so I have been keeping a low profile online, choosing to stay in touch with my family and friends via text message instead of other platforms. Talking out my fears with people I love and trust has been extremely helpful. However, I do know that it can be difficult to share fears with people you know, and I want to reiterate how I am more than happy to offer advice/listen to your concerns.

I know this post hasn’t been very aesthetic orientated, but it didn’t feel right in light of recent events. While these tips may not work for everyone, they have helped me recently. Most importantly, though, KEEP SAFE. I’m sending positive thoughts out to everyone xxxx

Top 10 Monsoon-Proof Nail Art Ideas You Need This Season (+ Easy DIY Tips)

by Lina Clémence July 20, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

The monsoon season is here, and while we love the cosy weather, rain and humidity can wreak havoc on our nail art. Chipped polish, smudged designs, and dull-looking nails are common problems. But don’t worry! We have rounded up the top 10 monsoon-proof nail art ideas that will keep your nails looking vibrant, fresh, and Instagram-ready, no matter how wet it gets outside!

1. Gel Polish Magic

Gel nail polish is your best friend during the rainy season. It lasts longer, doesn’t chip easily, and retains shine despite humidity. Opt for gel-based manicures with bold colours like royal blue, deep green, or berry shades to brighten up grey, rainy days.

2. Rain Drop Nail Art

Celebrate the monsoon with adorable raindrop nail art! Use a glossy top coat to create 3D raindrop effects over pastel or sky blue nails. It’s minimal, chic, and totally on-theme.

DIY Tip: Use a dotting tool or the tip of a bobby pin to create perfect raindrop patterns.

3. Waterproof Matte Nails

Matte nails are less prone to smudging compared to glossy finishes during humid weather. Try waterproof matte nail polishes in earthy tones like mustard, olive, or maroon to complement your monsoon wardrobe.

4. Cloudy Sky Nails

Bring the cloudy skies to your fingertips with cloud-inspired nail art. Soft greys, whites, and light blues make for a dreamy combination.

Bonus Tip: Add tiny lightning bolt stickers or decals for an edgy twist.

5. Metallic & Chrome Nails

Shiny metallic or chrome nails reflect light beautifully, even on gloomy days. Plus, they are durable and can withstand occasional rain splashes without losing their lustre.

6. Monsoon Florals

Florals aren’t just for spring! Monsoon-themed floral nail art with darker backdrops like navy or forest green can make the colours pop and last longer.

DIY Hack: Use nail stamping kits for intricate floral patterns with ease.

7. Jelly Nails

Translucent jelly nails are trendy and perfect for monsoon. They give a playful, waterproof effect and can be customised with glitter or tiny fruit designs.

8. French Tips with a Twist

Instead of the classic white, go for vibrant neon or pastel French tips. They are simple yet eye-catching and don’t show chips as quickly.

9. Gradient Rainy Ombre

Try an ombre effect that mimics a rainy gradient – think grey fading into soft blue or purple. This subtle blend looks elegant and is less likely to show wear and tear.

10. Glitter Rain Nails

Add a sprinkle of glitter to your nails to mimic the shimmer of raindrops under streetlights. A glitter top coat not only beautifies but also adds an extra layer of protection.

Nail Care Tips for Monsoon:

  • Always apply a base coat to protect your nails from staining and moisture damage.

  • Use a good-quality top coat to seal in your nail art.

  • Keep your hands dry and moisturised to prevent fungal infections.

  • Avoid low-quality nail polishes that chip easily in humidity.

Final Thoughts

With these monsoon-proof nail art ideas, you can stay stylish even when the rain pours down! Don’t forget to share your creations on Instagram and tag us @CrazyNailzz for a chance to get featured.

9 tips: How to avoid a bad haircut

by Lina Clémence July 14, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Let’s be honest – we’ve all been there at some point: Walking out of the hairdresser’s with an (extremely) bad haircut.
While we all know that a bad haircut isn’t going to kill you, it sure as h… isn’t going to make things any better either.
So.. If you’ve decided to change your ’do for the upcoming fall and winter season, you’ll be happy to know that we’ve created the ultimate list to avoid getting a bad haircut.

Here you can see our list of 9 steps to avoid a bad haircut

1. Come prepared

You’re wearing your hair 24/7 – for this simple reason, it pays to look around and test out before committing to one single barber or hairdresser.

Contrary to what you might think, the expense doesn’t always equal excellence – and, with this in mind, you need to choose your hair stylist or barber based on word of mouth rather than price.

However, while the pricier isn’t always the better, we still don’t recommend that you go for the cheapest possible choice either.
– Instead, spend serious time asking around for recommendations and browse the internet for honest reviews.

2. Do your homework

While you might leave your hair in the hands of your hair stylist when you’re in the actual chair, there’s still a lot you can do to make sure you walk away with the best hair possible.

– The type of haircut you book determines how you should arrive at the salon:

1. A dry haircut: Come with clean, newly-washed hair
2. Shampoo + haircut: Arrive with your hair lightly styled allowing your hairdresser to see the natural fall of your hair and how you usually style it.

… Got curly or wavy hair? Don’t shampoo your hair two days in advance.

3. Don’t waste time

Arrive approximately 10 minutes before your appointment and receive the best possible service. OR show up late and risk losing valuable cutting and styling time. NO WAY, right?

– Also, if you haven’t visited in six weeks or more, make sure to book some extra time to get what is termed a ‘restyle haircut’.

Man getting a haircut

4. Talk the walk

The moment you take the seat, communicate exactly what you want and allow for your hair stylist or barber to give you some honest feedback too.
– A buzz cut or man bun isn’t necessarily for everyone!

Your new haircut needs to suit both your face and head shape, hair type and your age – and allow for helpful suggestions on how your cut could be improved for the better.

Man getting his sides trimmed by the hairdresser

5. Bring your best hair inspiration

True Story: Avoiding any miscommunications and bad haircuts become much easier if you bring inspiration and pictures of top-notch hairstyles with you.

Showing your hair stylist a picture of the haircut you want will provide your hairstylist with an idea of what you’re looking for – both in terms of cut and even color. Your stylist will also be able to tell you if that particular cut and style works for you – so be prepared to get feedback and maybe only partially the haircut you want.

Man with a fresh haircut

6. Learn from the master

While getting those finishing touches, you have the perfect opportunity to ask for some great at-home styling advice. Even the coolest haircut in the world won’t continue to be cool if you haven’t properly learned to style it – or been shown which products to use.

If you’re unsure on how to nail your new pompadour or whether you need a clay or a glossy pomade, just ask!
– A good stylist will be happy to show you which products to use or provide you with the best tips and tricks for making that do’ come alive.

And remember: Be honest and realistic! If you’d rather snooze than blow-dry every morning, tell the truth and let the maintenance of your cut reflect your actual effort.

Man getting his hair styled by the hairdresser

7. Make it a habit

We cannot stress this enough: To avoid a bad haircut in general, check in for regular chops!
– Your hair grows approximately 1 inch every 4th week and if you’re rocking a disconnect, it can easily be anything but that after 4 weeks without a trim.

Schedule regular appointments at your hairdresser’s in order to keep your new hairstyle looking as sharp as ever.
– Pssst, same goes if you’re trying to grow your hair for that popular man bun.

8. Don’t be afraid to try something new

Okay… We know: Men in general are some loyal and maybe a bit stubborn beasts: They hesitate to change their hairstyle, hairdresser or even hair products.

If it ain’t broken…. But still – try switching it up a bit now and then – try a new barber, go for a new, trending hairstyle and, in general, consider letting a fresh pair of scissors (so to speak) touch your hair.
You might end up with a fresh AF haircut!

Trimming the edges with a shaving knife

9. Speak up

Finally, in case you’re in bad luck and truly hate your new cut, you need to SPEAK UP  – so your hair stylist can fix it without charge.

Be polite and be honest, tell which areas you’re unsatisfied with and let your hairdresser help fix the problems – either right away or after a few weeks – if too much was taken off the top.

12 tips to help you stay cool this summer

by Lina Clémence July 14, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

It’s officially as hot as Hades in London. And across most of Europe. Despite the scoffs of climate change deniers (dicks), last summer was roasting, and this one looks like it’s about to follow suit. So I am here to tell you how to look after yourself in this sweltering heat! Now, what gives me the credentials to dispatch this advice you ask? Well… my home town of Durban, South Africa is ridiculouisly humid hot. Like muggy, steamy heat. Pretty much all year round. And we didn’t have air conditioning. So…yeah… I may as well have a doctorate in this shit.

Swimsuit is Curvy Kate Wrapsody Multiway Swimsuit (gifted). Shop here. (AL)

1. Drink water

I know, I know. It’s pretty obvious. But seriously, your water bottle is your best friend. Take her everywhere with you. Refill her regularly. In the hot weather you should be drinking about 2 and a half litres (10 glasses) per day. But every body is different. So look out for the common signs you’re dehydrated – headache, feeling woozy, muscle cramps, not peeing very often, or really dark pee – and drink enough water to counter act them.

2. Buy a fan

Seriously, before the summer really gets into full swing buy yourself an electric, plug in fan. They are not crazy expensive (you can get a standard desk fan for under £20, in fact close to £10), they don’t take up much room if you get a little one so they can be easily stored, and the last a long time. I have still got the fan I bought the first summer I moved to London – 10 years ago.

Often places like Argos and the big supermarkets are the first to sell out of fans. Or you can buy online (but Amazon puts the prices up as the temperature rises. Here’s a tip – almost every high street in the country has one of those shops that sells all the random stuff – trolley bags, and cake tins, and plastic flowers, and hoola hoops. And they almost always have a stock of fans. (Shh don’t tell anyone)

And while you’re at it, if you have a steamy commute (shout out to the London tube crowd) get yourself a little rechargeable hand held fan. It’ll change your life. You can get them at stores like Tiger, or online.

3. Wear suitable clothing

It’s hot as balls. Really nudity would be preferable, but that’s frowned upon… but at least you can ensure you’re not further over heating by wearing additional layers because of body hang ups. Honestly, you don’t need to cover your arms, or wear full leggings in this heat. I promise you, no one will die because they were exposed to your additional flesh. They are all worrying about how to prevent themselves spontaneously combusting. The only reason you will get any odd looks is if you’re in a full cardigan in this heat.

Make sure you’re wearing natural fabrics where possible – cottons, linens etc, because polyester gonna make you sweat double time! And you are just going to be more comfortable if everyting is a little loose and flowing.

4. But maybe keep your bra on

If you are large of breast, you might want to think about investing in a few cotton bralets. Nobody wants to be in a restrictive tight underwire all day, but sometimes in the heat that feeling of flesh lying on flesh can be really uncomfortable and sweaty, so this is where a bralet will come in handy – especially for flopping around at home.

5. Keep makeup to a minimum

You just gonna sweat it off anyway… and that shit’s expensive.

6. Eat ice-cream

Obvs.

7. Sort out the chub rub

Sweating makes problems of chub rub infinitely worse. If you’re super active I would recomend a chub rub shorts brand like Chaffree for thin, breathable shorts to be worn under dresses and skirts. Sometimes for me it’s too hot for the shorts, so I prefer using IvyVerdure anti chaffing balm (you can currently get 15% off using the code Hayley15 on their website) as I find it creates a really effective barrier as long as your not doing excessive walking or exercise. And you can always reapply if you need a little more!

8. Have a cool bath

I cannot sleep if I am hot. And if I can’t sleep I get cranky and anxious and am no fun at all. I find having a cool bath or shower just before bed is the best way to cool me down enough to sleep. If it’s really hot then I won’t towel dry and instead sit naked in front of the fan until I’m dry and my whole body feels cool. And if I wake up in the night, roasting again, I will just go an have another cool shower – needs must.

I also tend to add Lush’s Silky Underwear powder into my personal hygeine routine in the summer – I use it under my tummy, and between my thighs because it makes me feel fresh and like it stops me from feeling all sweaty and ick in those places.

9. Wear sunscreen

You know what would make the boiling heat worse? Sunburn! I know in places like the UK we don’t get much sun, so it’s tempting to lie in it all day. But seriously – wear sunscreen. When you put it on, you should apply (no less than SPF 30, and with a high UVA rating [5 stars being the best]) it 20 minutes before going in the sun, and then I would apply more when you get in the sun – just to be sure you get it everywhere. And sunscreen should really be reapplied every 2 hours. But sunscreen can’t protect you completely, and it won’t help with the dehydration, so if you’re struggling sit in the shade!

10. Be prepared

I’ve already mentioned your new bestie, a reusable waterbottle, and your hand held rechargable fan. Carrying both helps keep my public transport anxiety in hot weather from getting too overwhelming. There are a couple of other things you might want to chuck in your hand bag too – in most chemists like Boots and Superdrug, you can get spring water spray – I tend to like the one Evian does, and the one Avene does. They can be a little on the pricey side, but they last quite a while, and are so refreshing when you’re all hot and sweaty. Particularly if you follow it up with a blast from your fan. And bring tissues. A fun side effect of one of the anti depressants I was on a couple of years ago was excessive facial sweating (sexy) and it still happens from time to time, so a tissue to mop my brow is useful.

11. Rest

Seriously. Rest. The heat takes it out of you. There is a reason for siestas in Spain. Don’t expect to be able to go at the same pace as usual, or get as much done. Your body will need rest, and you should let it. A little nap during the hottest part of the day (if possible) or when you get home from work is totally encouraged!

12. A special note for my fellow anti depressant takers

This is totally ridiculous, but a couple of weeks ago I found out just how much of an impact my anti depressants (sertraline) have on my experience of heat. Literally no one, not a single health care professional, had ever brought this to my attention. I had realised that other drugs I had been on before had given me a kind of  sun allergy, which meant I got a sort of sunburn rash when I was in the heat too long, but that went away when I changed my medicine. But it turns out that many anti depressants make regulating our body temperature really hard to do, and as a result we are likely to get dehydrated quicker, battle with extreme temperatures, get headaches, have blurred vision, feel disorientated and weak etc. Kinda some important stuff to know, don’t ya think? And definitely things I have experienced and just blamed on getting older, being fatter, not drinking enough water etc. You can read more about this here, but remember to take care of yourself extra specially, k? This is gonna be tough – make allowences.

That ended up being longer than I anticipated, but hopefully it helps! And if you have any tips or tricks, do leave them in the comments below. Stay cool babies <3

Today’s world is always moving at a quick pace, balancing personal and professional responsibilities can make it challenging to find time to have a beauty routine. If you’re a woman who is juggling your career, family, and your personal aspirations while constantly seeking ways to simplify your beauty regimen then you’re not alone.

Feeling confident and looking polished doesn’t have to take you hours on end each day. If you have the right beauty tips and products you can save time and still look your best. Let’s take a look at some of the smart beauty tips that you can use as a busy woman.

Get Radiant Morning Skin

If you want to wake up with your skin looking radiant you need to have a night time skincare routine. By investing a few minutes in the evening you can wake up with your skin looking refreshed and glowing. This is going to save you a whole lot of time in the morning.

A good night time regimen is where you allow your skin to repair and rejuvenate itself while you are sleeping. This will reduce your need for a heavy makeup routine when you should be rushing out the door.
You can start with a gentle cleanser at night to remove any dirt, oil or makeup that has accumulated on your skin throughout the day. After cleansing you can then go ahead and apply a nourishing serum.

The best ones are those loaded with vitamin C or peptides. This is going to encourage your skin to renew itself overnight. You can then top it off with a hydrating night cream or moisturizer that’s going to seal in that moisture to help you wake up with healthy-looking skin.

Dry Shampoo Your Hair

For those days when washing your hair is just about impossible you should try dry shampooing your hair instead. It can be a huge lifesaver.

It will instantly refresh your hair and absorb excess oil while adding volume without the need for you to have a full wash off your hair. Dry shampoos are especially helpful during those busy mornings or for those late night events where you simply don’t have the time to wash your hair.

Multitasking Beauty Products

You may want to try beauty products that can multitask. This is an efficient way that you can quickly simplify your beauty routine.

If you do this, you’re going to combine several steps in one. There are products that will combine foundation, moisturizer and sunscreen all in one. Many of them even have anti-aging benefits and you get all of this by just using the product one time.

Another great multitasker that you may want to try is a lip and cheek tint. This product is going to add color to your cheeks and give you that naturally flushed look without a lot of effort. There are also makeup sticks available that can be used for your eyes, lips and cheeks. These products are easy to blend and you can apply them using your fingers. It is fast fuss free makeup is what you’re after then these are great options.

Nail Care for Busy Days

If you’re extremely busy chances are you won’t have time for making salon visits all the time. This doesn’t mean that you need to neglect your nails in any way. Keep your nails neat and well trimmed at all times from home with the right tools.
Start by investing in a pair of heavy duty toenail clippers. These are perfect for managing thicker nails or for preventing ingrown toenails which can cause infection if not properly cut. With a heavy duty clipper you are going to have better control and precision. Making it easier to maintain your nails between salon visits.

You can also save a lot of time by using fast-drying nail polish as well as clear nail polish. This is going to add a hint of shine without you needing to wait for your nails to dry. This is one time-saving method that will keep your nails looking beautiful all the time.

Simplify Hairstyles

Simplifying hairstyles is another thing you should look into. There is no need for you to be spending hours styling your hair. Always opt for simple low-maintenance hairstyles that are going to look chic and professional at the same time.

There are many hairstyles out there that are great for busy women. Try loose waves as well as messy buns and ponytails. There are many other simplified hairstyles out there that you can try. It is completely up to you which ones will suit you best. Think of your face shape and your taste when selecting a hairstyle.

On those days when you don’t have time to style your hair then hair accessories can be a lifesaver for you. A stylish headband, decorative hairpins and a scarf will instantly elevate your look and take it to a whole new level. It will give the impression that you put in a lot more effort than you may have.

Take at Home Facials for Instant Glow

If you’re short on time you may want to consider giving your skin an extra boost with a quick 10 minute at home facial because it can do wonders for your skin. Start by using a gentle exfoliating scrub to remove any dead skin cells and to reveal the fresh layer of skin that is underneath.

When you follow this along with a hydrating mask you’re going to have the perfect combination for adding moisture and a bit of plump to your skin at the same time. You can give yourself this kind of quick facial at least once a week. You’re going to see a remarkable difference in your complexion.

Keep a Mini Beauty Kit In Your Bag

Having a mini beauty kit in your purse can be a lifesaver especially on those days when you are extremely busy. You can stock it with several travel sized essentials such as your dry shampoo, your concealer, mini mascara and a tinted lip balm as well.

This way you can give yourself some quick touch ups while you are on the go.

Fix Puffy Eyes

There may be times when you find that your eyes are puffy especially if you have long nights or you have early mornings very often. There’s no need to worry about them as there are many fixes you can use to make yourself look a bit more perky.

Keep under eye patches in the fridge so you can quickly reduce puffiness and brighten your under eye area in no time. All you have to do is apply the patches for a few minutes and the cooling effect will help soothe your tired eyes. Once you brighten your eyes you are going to find that your whole appearance brightens as well.

There are a lot of times when you may need to have some quicker and simple beauty routines that you can quickly grab a hold of if you want your skin and general appearance to look a bit more radiant very quickly. Beauty doesn’t have to be rigorous, it can be set it and forget it in many cases. At the very least it shouldn’t be taking up much of your time especially if you are an extremely busy woman. Glam on the go is very possible and it is something you should strive for, so that you can harness more of your time and focus it into being more productive while still looking great.

8 Tips for Planning Your Dream Garden

by Lina Clémence July 9, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

My garden is my happy place. There’s nothing I love more than stepping out of my back door with a coffee in hand on a spring morning, wandering barefoot around my garden, noticing the sounds of the birds, any new flowers that have opened, and watching bees and butterflies hard at work. We used Nicholsons Garden Design to help us plan and execute many phases of our garden design here at our home, and whether you’re thinking of hiring a design team to overhaul your garden; you’re going to tackle your whole garden yourself; or you’re simply making tweaks to your existing garden, it’s a good idea to keep these tips in mind to ensure a smooth process that leads to the creation of a beautiful and practical garden that suits you and your family.

1 – List everything you want to be able to do in your garden

When planning your dream garden, the first thing you should think about is what do you actually want from your garden? What do you and your family like to do in the garden? Start with compiling a list of all of the key things, such as I’d like to have… a sunny spot to have my morning coffee, a play area for my children, a BBQ area, a space for a couple of raised beds. Make sure you’re being realistic about the amount of space you have, as you don’t want your garden to feel too cluttered.

2 – Think about the overall style of your garden

Your garden should be an extension of your beautiful home, and to look cohesive the style of your garden should link closely to the style of your home. Be sure to consider this when choosing materials and deciding on your planting style. If you have an über modern home, a modern garden with clean lines, tidy planting and a restrained colour palette may be most appropriate. If you have a beautiful old cottage, perhaps a cottage style garden with a more relaxed planting style, wafty grasses and a looser colour palette would be better suited. When it comes to choosing materials such as your patio, consider the materials you’ve used in your house. If you have a limestone floor in your kitchen which opens directly into the garden, you could use a similar (or even the same) material for your garden patio, to give a more cohesive look.

3 – Create mood boards

When planning out any big project, it’s a good idea to use mood boards so you can visually see how everything will come together. Creating a mood board can be as simple as creating a dedicated Pinterest board full of all of the elements of your garden such as the plants, materials and furniture style you’re going for. Or you could use a software such as Powerpoint or PureRef to bring together images saved from plant websites and garden furniture websites. If you’ve got a larger garden, or one where there will be distinct sections, it might be an idea to create individual mood boards for each section of your garden, such as one for your outdoor kitchen, another for your little woodland area etc., and then you might want to create an overall mood board for the whole garden to ensure that all parts of your garden look cohesive when viewed together. If you have a small city courtyard garden, one mood board should be sufficient.

If you want to take things one step further, try creating a simple spreadsheet that’s divided into each month of the year, where you can list which plants will be in flower or displaying their autumn colours for example. You could also note which colour each plant will be, for example, under June, you might list pink roses, yellow roses, purple lupins, pink & white erigeron etc. This will help you to ensure you’ve got interest throughout each month of the year, and will also help you to work on the colour palette of your garden (which may change through the seasons).

4 – Consider the light

The next thing to consider is how light moves across your garden through the day. If your garden is south facing, much of your garden will be in direct sun all day, whilst if your garden is north facing, perhaps only the far end of the garden will be in the sun, whilst the area close to your house may always be in shade. Actively go and stand in different parts of your garden through the day to work out which areas get sun at which points of the day. This will of course vary between seasons too; the sun is higher in the sky in summer, and so the sun’s rays will reach more of your garden compared to during winter.

When thinking about where everything in your garden should go, consider whether those spots need to be in the sun or not. For example, if you’re into growing veg, you’ll want to put your kitchen garden area in the sunniest spot possible. You’ll want to ensure your morning coffee spot gets the morning sun, while perhaps your BBQ and al fresco dining area should be placed to catch the evening sun.

5 -Plan out the journey through your garden

Once you’ve worked out what you want in your garden, and where various elements need to be, you need to consider your journey through the garden. You don’t always have to create the most direct path to each destination in your garden. You could create a curved or meandering path, to allow yourself to pass little points of interest along the way. For example, on the way to your kitchen garden area, you could pass a section of fragrant roses, or you could walk underneath an arbour covered with clematis and honeysuckle. Consider how to make each journey through your garden more exciting, by using planting or a structure such as a water feature to add a moment of interest.

6 – Consider what you’ll see from your house

Once you’ve got a rough idea of the layout of your garden, consider what view you’ll be looking out upon from your windows and from your front & back door. Perhaps you could place a beautiful ornamental tree such as a multi-stem Amelanchier in such a spot so that it’s framed perfectly when looking out of your bedroom window? Perhaps you could place a gorgeous herbaceous border right outside your back door so you can see it from the doorway, and from your kitchen windows?

The view you look out on is particularly important if you’ve invested in big glass doors in your kitchen or living space – be sure to consider what the view will be from those doors, and how it will change through the year.

7 – Draw out a detailed garden plan

Make sure to draw out a detailed plan of your garden, informed by all of the above tips. Be sure to add in where water taps need to go, as well as electrical cables for garden lighting, and lighting inside your shed if desired. If possible, print out a few copies of an outline of your garden that is roughly to scale, and then you can play around with drawing out a few options for your design before you settle on the perfect design.

8 – Tackle the garden bit by bit

Whether you’ve got a garden design team creating your dream garden, or you’re doing it yourself, it’s a good idea to break down your garden renovation into smaller projects, and tackle them one or two at a time rather than trying to do little bits here and there across your whole garden. This is especially important if you plan to do all of the work yourself or if you’re working with a tighter budget.

Carefully plan the order that you’re going to carry out each mini-project. Perhaps you could start with something that will make a big impact, such as a herbaceous border (or selection of planters) outside your front door, which will instantly brighten the look of your house and will be seen by everyone who walks past. Or, perhaps summer is coming up and a really practical project to tackle first would be your BBQ area so that you can host parties throughout the summer.

Another thing to consider when planning what to tackle when is the time of year, as certain projects are best completed when it’s warm and dry, and certain plants like to be planted at certain times of year. For example, the best time to plant a herbaceous border is spring, while bare root fruit trees are best planted between November and March when they’re dormant.
