Kesalahan Umum Pakai Parfum yang Harus Ditinggalkan di 2024! indonesia beauty and travel blogger Miharu Julie

by Lina Clémence June 11, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Hai beauty lovers, ga berasa ya sudah awal tahun baru 2024 saja nih. Gimana liburan akhir tahun kalian? Aku mau share nih pengalaman liburan akhir tahun 2023 aku kemarin bersama keluarga terasa menyenangkan, meskipun cuaca Jakarta panas banget dan kadang bikin badan jadi bau keringat menyengat.

Scarlett Whitening Eau De Parfum

DESCRIPTION Scarlett Eau De Parfum Euphoria 30ml

Harga Scarlett Euphoria Eau De Parfum

Packaging Scarlett Eau De Parfum Euphoria

Daya Tahan Scarlett Eau De Parfum Euphoria

Pros ✅:

● Semprotan spray yang halus sehingga nyaman digunakan.

● Wangi mewah yang ga pasaran.

● Botol dan packaging-nya cantik dan ready to go (mudah dibawa-bawa).

● Harga affordable.

● Produk Lokal.

Cons ❌: –

 Time to Fly

Sumer holidays are around the corner and deciding where to go or what to pack can e daunting experience.

So what to pack ? Well after reading how some airlines charge passenger to check the baggage. First I believe the budget airlines started , but now the big name ones have also started to charge it! American Airlines , southwest , Air Canada .  And the extra cost if is a jackpot for the airlines.

I have not travel with the budget lines but have used some of the others mentioned  and  I won’t be booking any trips with them!

Really what do they think? If the operate a service to transport you and your belongs  that should be included , NOT an extra expense.

Give you an idea of what they collect in these extra fees  then read this report via BBC.

Truthfully people need to tell these companies  NO .  Even a handbag is next to the list.   They are making BILLIONS from from these extra fees!

Depology Matrixyl 3000 Travel Set Review — Laura Loukola

by Lina Clémence June 11, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Depology Matrixyl 3000 Travel Set Review

Matrixyl 3000 Collagen Boosting Serum $40 (€36.7) for 30ml (1.01 fl.Oz)
Matrixyl 3000 Travel Set $50 $40 (€36.7) for 30ml (1.01 fl.Oz) AND 9ml /0.30 fl.Oz)

For reference: I am 34 years old with normal-dry/dehydrated skin. My main concerns are dullness, tightness, and the occasional dry patch on my cheeks. My congestion is manageable, and I rarely break out anymore. Dehydration makes my fine lines and signs of aging more prominent, so I’m a huge fan of hydrating serums and essences. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become pickier about the products I use: solely hyaluronic acid-based products can make my skin feel even tighter if I’m not quickly sealing them in with a layer of cream or facial oil.

Last fall I struggled with sinusitis, frequent flu, and fatigue (hence, I had to take some time off from work and blogging). I was often too tired to do my many-step skincare routine, but Matrixyl 3000 Serum was easy and quick to apply, comforting my skin instantly. I enjoy that Depology Matrixyl 3000 has several humectants (aloe leaf juice, glycerin, hyaluronic acid) and emollients (rosehip seed and sunflower seed oil) for long-lasting soothing and hydration. Not to forget the collagen-boosting star ingredient, which is in a high concentration. I’m finally healthy, and I’ve been using my 2nd bottle for a few weeks with my usual skincare routine. I still enjoy it! According to my experience, this serum is beneficial whether you prefer a complex skincare routine or a simplified one. I cannot measure my collagen levels, but my skin looks and feels smoother and brighter, and my fine lines are less pronounced.

My usual routine is cleansing, toning, and massaging a few drops of the serum on my face, neck, and décolléte. Especially if you pick up Matrixyl Collagen Boosting Serum Travel Set it will last you weeks, the price is very reasonable, and the mini bottle is easy to toss into your travel bag. I follow the serum with an eye cream, moisturizer, and SPF during the day. It works beautifully under makeup. My evening routine is similar, but I pair the Matrixyl 3000 serum with a retinol cream (or just a facial oil if I’m lazy). I also tested the serum paired with Depology Micro-Dart patches (review here) overnight to give my eye area extra pampering. Just make sure you let the serum absorb before applying the patches!

I would suggest this serum for most people and any skin type. It’s also vegan, cruelty-free, and free of artificial fragrance. I know people prone to acne may need to pay attention to coconut oil, but the amount seems minimal. I didn’t get any congestion (I struggled with acne in my mid-20s). For the best results, check out Depology’s simple ingredient pairing guide. I found it very helpful!

Depology Matrixyl 3000 Serum INCI

Water, Butylene Glycol, Matrixyl 3000, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Glycerin, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Hyaluronic Acid, Codium Tomentosum Extract, Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Cereus Grandiflorus (Cactus) Extract, Polyglyceryl-6 Caprylate, Trehalose, Hydroxyacetophenone, 1 ,2-Hexanediol, Coconut Oil, Rosehip Seed Oil, Sunflower Seed Oil, Allantoin, Stearic Acid, Xanthan Gum

Travel: Weekend Trip to The Finger Lakes, NY (Inns of Aurora Review)

by Lina Clémence June 7, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

I just came back from a quick trip to upstate New York with my husband and we had the best time. I wanted to share a full review of the trip and if I’d recommend it (spoiler: I totally would).

Planning

Inns of Aurora
It took awhile for us to decide that this is the trip we wanted to do. When I was researching I looked long and hard for really any and all options. I knew I wanted to do a fairly close trip (i.e didn’t want to go overseas) but otherwise I was totally open to going really anywhere. My overall vibes I was thinking was like coastal relaxing beach house. I had the hardest time trying to find a place. I looked at resorts, hotels, airbnbs and vrbos. I was flexible between the US and Canada (originally was looking for the east coast of Canada but couldn’t find anywhere that would really match what I was looking for/ was available).

I ended up tightening my search to somewhere we could drive to so we could save a bit of money on flights (why is flying in Canada so expensive!?). After back and forth on a couple of options (near Ottawa? Muskoka? Collingwood?), we landed on Aurora, NY and specifically the Inns of Aurora.

I’ll mention here, in terms of price this not a cheap accommodation. My rationale was that we’d be saving by not taking a flight and only staying 2 nights.

Accommodation

Inns of Aurora Zabriskie house

The little town of Aurora New York is mostly made up of the Inns of Aurora with some locals/ residences on the lake. It is in the region of the Finger Lakes (yes, of The Office fame haha) specifically on Cayuga Lake. The Finger Lakes were created by the movement of glaciers which gives the lakes that unique look.

Inns of Aurora Zabriskie house

The Inns of Aurora is made up of a few different ‘houses’ you can stay at. I booked decently last minute and the only one available at this time was the Zabriskie House. We were extremely pleased with the house and honestly would stay at this exact house again, We liked that it was a bit set back from the main st/ inn which I feel added a tad more seclusion. This to say the town is EXTREMELY quiet so I don’t think there would be much of an issue with noise, but in terms of parking and just foot traffic, Zabriskie is set back just slightly (literally a 2 minute walk from the restaurants and main building).

Inns of Aurora Zabriskie house

The inside of the house is grand without being too stuffy. It definitely fits the bill for my ‘coastal vibes’ request. The main areas have lots of sitting room with tables and a full bathroom. Zabriskie has an elevator but since this is set up as an inn, the stairs were very accessible and what we used most of our stay.

Inns of Aurora Zabriskie house

Honestly the accommodations were exactly what I was expecting and wanted. It was extremely quiet and had a relaxing aura all over. The Inns of Aurora is adults only and I did appreciate that all guests were probably looking for the same thing. Due to the price point and overall vibes this definitely attracted an older crowd (we did see a few people that were in our age range though).

Inns of Aurora Zabriskie house

The room itself was quaint, clean, and definitely had enough space for our needs. The majority of the rooms in all houses are only two person rooms with very few having the ability for three. Zabriskie was renovated in 2019 and it really doesn’t show much wear at all. The bathroom was very spacious with heated floors which was a nice touch. The only very minor item that we noticed was the bed wasn’t to our taste and had a bit of a creak. This to say it was not nearly been the worst bed I’ve been on in a hotel, but something both my husband and I mentioned to each other!

Activities

One key thing I was looking for was a place with resort-style activities and the Inns of Aurora delivered. The main draw is the spa. As much as I love the spas, there were so many other things we wanted to do and it was a bit pricey. I didn’t want to risk insurance not paying for it (since in the states), so we decided to skip.

Otherwise we made use out of the free kayak rentals that are available right at the lakefront. It’s first come first serve, they include life jackets and they also have canoes and stand up paddle boards for rent. This was definitely a highlight and we did this early in the morning as the weather was supposed to be bad in the afternoon.

The activities calendar had lots to do, but something that wasn’t mentioned much in my research was the free craft kits. They had a watercolour kit which I happily checked out and spent an afternoon with!

Inns of Aurora food

There were also a few nice amenities the inn offered, one of them being s’mores kits! Each evening, each inn has a fire pit which the staff light each night. Inside your house they set out a little s’mores kit and marshmallow roasting sticks. We made use of them the first night. The bugs were biting so we didn’t stay out long, but just something really cute and fun to do.

Food

Speaking of food, I thought I’d do a quick overview of this! This is not an all inclusive so the food was not included. They did provide homemade granola bars that could be picked up in the morning which was a nice touch. It was more of a ‘baked’ bar style which was nice to have in the morning.

Otherwise on property there were two restaurants, Fargo which is more of a bar style with casual eats and 1833 which was much more formal. We did dinner both nights we were there at Fargo and we did brunch at 1833.

Both were quite good. I enjoyed the variety of the food at both locations. With the town being small, these are really the only places to eat. If you were staying for more than a couple of days I could see you wanting some variety, but Ithaca is only a 30 min drive away.

Things to Do

Watkins glen state park

We definitely didn’t just stay at the inns, and also went on a few hikes. The day we drove in, we did Watkins Glen State Park. Honestly this was a huge highlight. The park was spectacular. The rock cut outs and all the waterfalls were just a sight to behold.

Watkins glen park

We also went to Buttermilk Falls State park this. Was honestly one of the most challenging hikes we had done. There was a significant portion at a steep incline for a long portion of the trail. The scenery wasn’t as overtly spectacular as Watkins Glen, but still so nice to walk through (and got a very good workout haha).

In Conclusion

All in all we had a really wonderful time. It’s been awhile since we did a roadtrip to stay over night, so this was a great change of pace. We had an excellent time at the Inns of Aurora. I’d definitely look into it again for the fall when all the leaves would be changing!

Thanks for reading! Have a great day!

Naina.co Luxury, Travel, Fashion & Lifestyle Photographer in Adelaide Revival Runway, October 2024, Melbourne Fashion Week

by Lina Clémence June 1, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Revival Runway supports, promotes and celebrates Melbourne’s Queer Talent. It was quite y accident that I ended up at Abbotsford Convent, thanks to my friends Tim Neal and Nathan James (both photographers). I met them while photographing street style at Melbourne Fashion Week and decided to hang out at “one more show”!

I was not expecting to have so much fun photographing this runway show. It was more of a celebration! The support from the audience was palpable with hooting and cheering. The garments were full of colour and personality. All models, make-up artists and photographers were volunteers. I almost got thrown out of the venue before it started because a firebrand blue-haired lady walked up to me and quite assertively asked me, “And who exactly are you?” Thankfully Tim jumped to my rescue, and I stayed!

Glad I did because this was an absolute delight. Scroll away!

I don’t quite know everyone on the fashion scene in Australia yet but, the fashion designers who showcased at Revival Runway are Isadora Nim, Wilson Jedd Adams, Milky Plug Kid, Queery This, Design by Jade, Baaqiy, Chelsea Farquhar and Foot, and the performance was by Amber Scates.

And the last photograph is of Gabe, who was one of the guests at the show and after having seen Gabe at several other shows at MFW, I was besmirched by the personal style.

Revival Runway can also be found on Instagram. Follow them to find out about their next event and how you can support and donate.

Travel itinerary: One week in Italy

by Lina Clémence May 30, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Only have one week left of annual leave and have your eye on Italy? Here’s how you can enjoy Tuscany, Umbria, and Rome in just a few days. One week in Italy is not the ideal travel itinerary – the more time, the better! But, it’s definitely still worth the trip, so here is the travel itinerary I followed when I was in your shoes.

I live in Edinburgh, in Scotland. We have direct flights to a few locations in Italy, mostly served by Ryanair, but they don’t run every day. In order to make the most of my trip, I booked a flight in to one airport, travelled around, and then flew out of a different city. It means two separate itineraries and trips, but I think it’s worth it to get to see more of the country.

One week in Italy travel itinerary: Pisa -> Florence -> Perugia -> Rome

Tips on travelling to and around Italy

My flight: EDI-PSA, FR3264, departing at 8:20AM, arriving 12pm

If you’re in Europe, Pisa is a great choice to fly into, or out of. There’s loads of Ryanair and Easyjet flights. The airport is easy to access from the city centre with a little monorail type train directly connecting the train station to the airport. It’s cheap and convenient, and the train station has a left luggage desk so you can enjoy the leaning tower unburdened by your bags!

We opted to just spend the day in Pisa, see the leaning tower have lunch, and then hop on a train to Florence. Trains are a fantastic way to travel around the country, and how we travel around to see as much of Italy as we can. This itinerary travels from Pisa, to Florence, to Perugia, to Rome. It uses only direct trains with less than three hour long journeys. The train between Pisa and Florence is less than an hour!

What to do in Florence

Florence is one of my favourite cities to visit. Forget one week in Italy, I could write a whole one week in Florence itinerary. Between the food, the views, the galleries, and the museums: there’s no shortage of things to do. While you’re here, make sure you visit some of the museums and galleries. If you only have a few days, I’d pick between the Palazzo Vecchio and Brunelleschi’s Duomo. Both have towers you can walk up to enjoy stunning views. But, one has a museum, the other has some stunning architecture and is one of the more famous Catholic churches. If you’re afraid of tight spaces, I’d recommend the Palazzo Vecchio! Plus, that way you get to see the Duomo from your viewpoint. That said, the Duomo does tend to be more of a “classic” tourist spot.

The Uffizi Gallery is the gallery to visit, but you have to book in advance and make some level of a plan for what you want to see because there’s no way to see it all in one day! I had my eye on Donatello’s David though, rather than Michelangelo’s. So, we headed to the Museo Nazionale del Bargello. If you’re a sculpture fan, this is the museum for you. Floors upon floors of sculptures in all varieties will greet you.

Other favourites of mine include Michelangelo’s Square at sunset, and the Ponte Vecchio with a gelato in hand. We lean into the tourist thing in Florence and spent a few evenings drinking in the square in front of the Palazzo Vecchio. The food is great everywhere in Florence, and this way we got to people-watch and enjoy the sculptures in the square too. One piece of advice I always follow is to pre-book one nice meal on your holiday so you know no matter what, you’re having a great meal. We booked at il Granaio, which serves classic Italian in a classy space off a little street. I’d definitely recommend!

List of tips:

  • Visit and climb to the top of the Duomo
  • Visit the Palazzo Vecchio Museum and climb its tower
  • Explore the Uffizi Gallery
  • Sculpture sightsee at the Museo Nazional del Bargello
  • Walk across the Ponte Vecchio
  • Walk to Michelangelo’s Square for sunset
  • Eat pizza at Gusto Leo (by Museo Nazional del Bargello)
  • Eat dinner at il Granaio
  • Find the small photo booth and take a series of photos – but you need coins and you will have to wait around 10 minutes for the machine to work its magic!

What to do in Perugia

With only one week in Italy it can be hard to find time in your itinerary to actually switch off and relax. Two days in Perugia in the middle of your holiday will do just that! This ancient Etruscan town is nestled on the top of a hill and is the perfect place to spend a few days just eating, drinking, and relaxing. There’s no shortage of restaurants or aperitivo spots, and if the drinks don’t help, the sunsets are sure to help your stress disappear.

In Perugia, you can enjoy the local museum, explore an Etruscan well, visit the factory of the famous chocolate makers ‘Baci’, and sit in the Giardini Carducci to watch the sun set. The hotel Sina Brufani has a stunning restaurant and bar located right next to the gardens. It’s a perfect spot for aperitifs before or after sunset. In the summer, Perugia is used to hosting many tourists, but in the winter it becomes a quieter, softer version of itself. Restaurants and tourist shops are still open, they’re just rather quiet. You’ll mostly run into students and people bustling about their usual day than you will run into tourists. It makes for a nice stop no matter what time of year!

List of Perugia tips

A view of a sunset over some hills in the distance

What to do in Rome

Really, a silly heading. What not to do in Rome?! The list of things to do is long. You’ll know which things you want to see most. My preferences are: the colosseum is quite cool to see, but book a guided tour and book in advance. Also, you can get really nice pictures with it from the Giardinetto del Monte Oppio, and nice spots for drinks with a view up there too. You’ll see plenty of Roman ruins while walking through Rome, so I don’t personally feel the need to pay to see them (though I have). The Trevi Fountain is overrun with tourists (myself included). My take is to get in, get a picture, and get out. It’s hard to stop and enjoy because tourists are there at all hours of the night these days.

My main piece of advice? Find some really nice restaurants. Italy has one of the highest percentages of people with Celiac disease, so if you’re gluten free, this is your time to shine.

List of Rome tips

  • Gluten free pizza at Pizza in Trevi (perfect for after visiting the nearby fountain!)
  • Guided tour of the Colosseum
  • Photos with the Colosseum at Giardinetto del Monte Oppio
  • Drinks at Volpe Pasini bistio italiano (or on Via Delle Terme di Tito) have nice views of the Colosseum
  • The usual tourist spots!

One week in Italy itinerary

Pisa, day 1: Arrive in Pisa! Get the airport tram to the train station, drop your luggage at the left luggage in the station. Then, head in to Pisa to see the leaning tower and eat some food. Once you’re satisfied, hop on the next train to Florence. Check in, and then head out to explore and get some drinks! We went to “touristy” spots in restaurants on the main squares and still enjoyed very nice food and wine at reasonable prices.

Florence, day 2: Start your morning with a walk to get your bearings and stop for a cappuccino and pastry. Visit the Museo Nazionale del Bargello, and stop in at Gusto Leo for lunch afterwards. Walk slowly over to the Palazzo Vecchio to enjoy some of the outdoor sculptures at Uffizi, before heading in to the Palazzo Vecchio to go up the tower. Afterwards, stop for gelato on your walk down the river to Michelangelo’s Square for sunset.

Florence, day 3: Up bright and early for a quick breakfast before you start your day at Uffizi Gallery! Spend as much time exploring as you can stomach before breaking for lunch. Afterwards, head over to the Duomo and don’t forget to have booked your tickets ahead of time! Take a walk over the Ponte Vecchio and have a look in all the different gioellerias before stopping for food. Dinner tonight at il Granaio would be a great way to top off a great trip to Florence.

Perugia, day 4: Travel to Perugia via train after breakfast. Don’t forget to grab a sandwich for the journey! You’ll enjoy some gorgeous views of Umbria along the ride. Once you arrive, hop on the cable car to get up into the city – otherwise you’ll be walking uphill for awhile! Check in, kick your feet up, and then head out for some aperitifs before sunset. Afterwards, walk over to Piazza IV Novembre and stop for dinner along the way.

Perugia, day 5: After breakfast, get your bearings with a guided tour of the city, or stop in the Galleria Nazionale dell’Umbria to explore the medieval artwork inside. Stop for lunch at one of the many little restaurants like Pasticceria Sandri, and then head over to the Etruscan Well to see a piece of history. Make sure you time your visit with one of their tours, they run hourly! Or, book ahead to visit the Baci Perugina factory and see how the chocolates are made. Make sure to hit up the gift shop before you leave, and have a chocolate for me! They’re my favourite. Dinner is at Enoteca di Perugia, a fantastic little wine bar in the old town.

Rome, day 6: Hop on an early train from Perugia to Rome. Make sure to grab snacks ahead of time, this is your longest train journey of the trip! When you arrive, you can safely tuck your bags away at Stow Your Bags by Termini Station, or leave them at your accommodation. Time to wander, and stop for food, and wander some more! Today would be a good day to visit the Trevi Fountain or the Spanish Steps. The nice thing about Rome is everything is super close to each other! In the afternoon, take a guided tour of the Colosseum, and then head over towards the Roman Forum and Pantheon.

Rome, day 7: Leave this day free to do anything you couldn’t do on day one in Rome, or use it to visit the Vatican City. Make sure to eat your fill of gelato and all levels of delicious Italian food before you leave!

Whatever you take from this itinerary, I hope you enjoy your week in Italy! The trip might feel short, but it will be mighty.

Travel Style Tips for Women Over 50

by Lina Clémence May 29, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Packing has become less of a guessing game for me, mostly because I’ve made enough mistakes to know what actually gets worn and what just takes the scenic route in my suitcase. (Looking at you, shoes that gave me blisters on day one and blouse that needed a cami so everything wasn’t on display). I’ve also learned that trying to dress like the locals can be a dismal failure when you’re abroad, especially after 50, so now I dress for myself.

These days, I pack more intentionally and I’ve built a travel wardrobe that feels appropriate, polished, and easy to wear. It’s not about dressing up, it’s about dressing in a way that feels like you, wherever you land. If you’re planning a trip and wondering what to wear abroad over 50, here’s what I’ve learned to skip and what I pack instead to feel confident, comfortable, and respectful on the road. You may also enjoy Why I’d Rather Be Overdressed (Every Time)

What Not to Wear Abroad for Women Over 50

Loud Logos Can Undermine a Polished Look

Wearing big brand names or graphic slogans might feel casual and fun at home, but abroad, especially in Europe, it can read more touristy than stylish. I prefer a quieter look when I travel with solid colors, subtle patterns, and timeless silhouettes. They’re easier to mix and match, and you’re less likely to feel out of place. Those loud, logo-heavy pieces can also make you a more obvious target for scams or pickpockets.

If you’re looking for more ways to elevate your travel wardrobe, you might enjoy my post on How to Look Expensive On Any Budget.

Athleisure Isn’t a Universal Dress Code

While leggings and athletic tops are standard weekend wear in the U.S., many cultures still see them as gym clothes, not daywear. I don’t wear workout clothes to run errands at home, and I certainly don’t pack them for travel. Instead, I count on easy, comfortable trousers, knit dresses, or relaxed silhouettes that are just as comfortable but feel a little more thoughtful. Here’s where things like my amazing Endless pants from Athleta come in. They feel as comfy as leggings but look elevated and put together.

ATHLETA ENDLESS PANTS / SLIP ON SNEAKERS / SIMILAR KNIT JACKET / HANDHELD TOTE / ROLLER CARRY-ON BAG / CONVERTABLE BELT BAG

Heavy Denim Can Weigh You Down

I love a great pair of jeans, but they’re not always the most practical for travel. They’re heavy, slow to dry, and stiff after a long day on your feet. If I do bring denim, it’s usually a lightweight, broken-in pair I know I’ll wear more than once. I usually favor breathable cotton pants or wide-leg linen styles. They take up less space and help me feel more put-together in warm weather. You may also find some new favorite travel pants here that pack like a dream and work just as well for sightseeing days as they do for dinner out.

Prioritize Shoes You Can Walk In All Day

Nothing will ruin a trip faster than sore feet. I’ve learned that the hard way. Now, I only pack shoes I’ve already worn and trust, like slip-on sneakers with arch support, cushioned flats, or a low wedge sandal with a sturdy sole. Style and comfort aren’t mutually exclusive. You just have to shop carefully.

Need a supportive, stylish travel shoe? You may find some options in these posts:

Keep Jewelry Understated and Low-Risk

When I travel, I leave anything valuable or sentimental at home, not out of fear but out of practicality. I pack a few classic pieces I wear every day at home, like silver hoops, a cuff bracelet, and a simple pendant. This is when nice costume jewelry is your best bet. It’s one less thing to worry about, and understated accessories tend to suit more settings anyway.

older woman wearing Minimalist jewelry and travel accessories
LO & SONS CROSSBODY BAG

As for bags, a crossbody style that zips closed is always a smart choice. If it has anti-theft features or a slash-proof strap, it’s even better. My favorites are from Lo & Sons, but there are also plenty of affordable options on Amazon, like this one and this one.

Lighten Up on the Black

Black is elegant and dependable, but in hot weather, it can feel heavy and harsh. Instead, I suggest soft neutrals like beige, taupe, gray, or camel. These neutrals reflect light, keep you cooler, still hide dirt well, and photograph beautifully. If black is a non-negotiable in your wardrobe, I totally get it…balance it with breezy fabrics and lighter accessories. You might enjoy my tips on how to wear black without looking washed out or boring, for ways to make black clothing work for you, no matter where your travels take you.

Cultural Norms Deserve Respect

What feels normal at home might be inappropriate abroad, especially when visiting religious or historic sites where modesty is expected. In some places, exposed shoulders or knees aren’t welcome, and it’s best to be prepared. That doesn’t mean you need to cover head to toe, but it does mean planning ahead.

I always carry a scarf or light wrap in my bag. It takes no space, adds polish to any outfit, and can provide instant coverage when needed.

Pack Lightweight Layers for Changing Weather

Even in the middle of summer, weather can shift quickly. I always include a few layering pieces like a cotton or linen sweater, a knit blazer, or a light trench. These add flexibility and elevate even the simplest outfits. They also help me feel a little more finished, even when I’m living out of a suitcase.

Why This Matters

As we get older, getting dressed becomes less about following trends and more about trusting ourselves. When I travel now, I want to feel comfortable, appropriate, and like myself. That doesn’t happen by accident…it takes a little planning.

The right clothes won’t make the trip, but they can absolutely make it more enjoyable, while the wrong clothes can ruin your trip. You just move differently when you’re not tugging at your hem or hobbling in painful shoes.

Applying This to Your Wardrobe

If you’ve ever arrived at your destination and realized half your suitcase doesn’t work, you’re not alone. I’ve done it plenty of times…packed things I thought I might wear, only to rely on the same familiar few pieces day after day.

rolling rack of clothes for river boat cruise on A Well Styled Life
ROLLING RACK OF CAPSULE FOR MY 2019 VIKING RIVERBOAT CRUISE

Now, I keep it simple by building a small travel capsule wardrobe with a handful of versatile clothes that mix easily, feel good in the climate, and suit the way I actually travel. It takes the guesswork out of getting dressed and helps me feel more put together with less.

You may also enjoy Cruise Wear for Women Over 50: What to Pack

Here’s what I usually include:

  • 3–4 tops in breathable, easy-care fabrics
  • 2–3 bottoms that pair well with everything else
  • 1–2 dresses that can be styled up or down
  • 1 lightweight layer for warmth or coverage
  • 2+ pairs of shoes and or sandals for walking, with one slightly dressier
  • A scarf, a crossbody bag, and a few simple accessories to finish the look

I focus on clothes that can handle a bit of walking, weather shifts, and repeat wear without requiring constant adjusting or attention.

You don’t need a suitcase full of options. Just a few well-chosen things that help you feel like yourself in unfamiliar places.

Do you have any travel plans abroad this year? I’d love to hear what you’re packing and the one thing you never pack anymore.
