written by Lina Clémence

Today’s hairstyle tutorial is a beautiful updo style created using a simple fishtail braid!

Our step by step video instructions (below) show how to make a simplified french fishtail braid, transitioning into a standard fishtail, then wrapping and tucking the finished braid into a pretty updo hairstyle. This formal hairstyle is quite easy even though it doesn’t look like it would be!

This hairstyle would be great for many special occasions: The Prom, Homecoming, weddings (hairstyles for the bride and bridesmaids as well as guests) parties, dinners, church, etc.

As mentioned in our video, the braid can also be left down for another adorable look!

Tips and tricks:

  • Use hair product to help prevent flyaways while you are creating the fishtail and for the finishing touches.
  • Stretch the edges of your braid for a more voluminous final look.
  • Miniature bobby pins (affiliate) are easier to hide in styles like this.
  • You may want to loosen the hair at the crown of her head before you wrap up the braid for a softer and more effortless look.

Flipped Ponytail Updo | Hairstyles For The Holidays

by Lina Clémence July 21, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Today, I’m showing you the Flipped Ponytail Updo! You might not have a ton of occasions that call for a “fancy” hairstyle, but you should definitely be ready when the time comes. Whether it’s for prom, a wedding, a holiday party, or just because you feel like it, try out this Flipped Ponytail Updo that anyone can make happen.

This hairstyle looks incredibly complex, but it’s actually pretty easy to create! Depending on how you accessorize it, how much hair you leave out around the face, and how slicked back/puffy you leave the top of the hair, you can definitely dress this look up or down! We started by spraying in dry shampoo to get lift at the roots. Don’t worry about being TOO clean – dirty hair is actually better for updos.

Items Needed: hair elastics (texture powder, hairspray, dry shampoo if desired)

Time Requirement: 15-20 minutes

Skill Level: Easy/Medium

Flipped Ponytail Updo

  • Separate the hair into 3 even sections. Pull the middle section out of the way.

  • Finger comb the right section of hair into a small elastic. Smooth down fly-away pieces with Wiggle Room Flexible Hold Hairspray by Hairitage. Loosen so the hair is not slicked back.

  • Repeat step 2 on the left section. Use the Magic Dust Texturizing Hair Powder by Hairitage if you need more grip/volume in the hair.

  • Pull back the middle section of hair, and allow the sides to cover the part lines that are showing. Use Lazy Day Light Dry Shampoo by Hairitage to keep oils at bay, and to add grip to the hair. Secure with a small elastic.

  • On the right section, add another small elastic a couple of inches down from the first elastic.

  • Make a hole in the hair between the 2 elastics and flip the ponytail OVER the hole you created. The hair creates a little twist – use the texturizing powder to really fluff it out. Repeat 3 more times down the right section.

  • Repeat step 6 on each section of hair (how many bubble twists you have in each section depends on the length of your hair.

  • Move the right section of hair across the middle and left sections, and loop it under. Secure with bobby pins.

  • Move the left section of hair across the middle and right sections, looping it under and securing with bobby pins.

  • Fold the middle section back and forth, tucking it under the other 2 secured sections. Place to your liking and secure with bobby pins.

  • Add accessories, hairspray, and tweak if needed!

Short and easy updo~ today’s hairstyle

by Lina Clémence July 4, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Hello friends,

Happy March!  How fun to begin a brand-new month.  Today I fixed my hair in a simple short updo style.  I braided two small braids on either side of my hair, then made three braids with the remaining loose hair and arranged all my braids in place just so.  I love wearing short hairstyle just for the day, no cutting involved 🙂

Double French Twist Updo | MISSY SUE

The French twist is a classic updo that is perfect for any occasion, from formal events to casual outings. In this tutorial, I will guide you through simple steps to create a unique version of the perfect, French twist, whether you are a beginner or a pro at hairstyling.

Step 1 // Prepare Your Hair: First, start with clean, dry hair. If your hair is slippery, add some texture with a bit of hairspray or dry shampoo. This will give the twist a better hold.

Step 2 // Gather Your Hair: Divide the hair beginning at the top of the ears and going back towards the center back of the head.

Step 3 // Twist the Hair: Start twisting the hair upward toward the back of your head. Keep the twist tight as you go. Use your other hand to hold the base in place as you twist.

Step 4 // Tuck and Secure: As you twist upward, tuck the ends of your hair inside the roll to create a neat look. Use bobby pins along the seam of the twist to secure it. Place pins from top to bottom, hiding them inside the twist.

Step 5 // Gather the Remaining Hair: Combine the rest of the bottom hair together underneath the pinned section above. Twist the hair together and lay it towards the right side of the previous section.

Step 6 // Pin the Hair: Slide more bobby pins into the hair along the seam of the twist to secure it in place. Continue pinning the hair until it feels secured in place.

Step 7 // Set with Hairspray: To finish, use a strong-hold hairspray to keep the twist secure and to tame any flyaways. You can also add decorative pins or clips if you’d like a bit of extra flair.

Today’s hair tutorial video features 2 of our favorite bun hairstyles that we thought would be perfect for Homecoming or Prom.  If you are looking for a unique and fairly easy updo, either of these sleek and glamorous buns will do the trick.

We originally posted these hairstyles 5 years ago when my daughter was only 11.  She’s 16 now and will actually be going to her own High School Homecoming in a few weeks! We are assuming many of you have never seen this video, so we wanted to resurface it again.

Star and Flower Bun Video Tutorials: (Click here to watch the video directly on YouTube.)

This tutorial shows how to create these bun hairstyles using a knotted braiding technique. These 2 styles would not only be great for formal dances, but many other occasions including: Weddings (bridal hairstyle, or flower girl hairstyle) communions, baptisms, recitals, church, Easter, etc.

Braided Updo with Baby-Girl~ yes, I’m still fixing my hair every day!

by Lina Clémence May 29, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Hi friends!

It has been much too long since I posted on my blog, but as you can see I have been…busy 🙂  Baby Girl is growing fast and oh-so-sweet!  Thankfully I still have time most days to fix my hair, and yesterday we managed to take some mommy-and-baby photos that also include some hairstyle shots.  This is one of my go-to styles these days, a small French braid where a headband would go, brought down into a side braided bun.  Hopefully I can post more hairstyle pictures on my blog in the weeks and months ahead, thank you so much for continuing to follow!  I wanted to let you know that this is not yet a dead page 🙂

I hope you are staying happy and healthy these days, and that you too have a sweet quarantine buddy <3
