Cosmetic Needling – Euphoria Skin and Wellness

by Lina Clémence July 4, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

What is this new craze micro needling that everyone is talking about?

Well, the truth is, it’s not new at all. Although micro needling, in the medical sense, was first introduced in 1905, Cosmetic Needling was not introduced until 1995, and has been a buzz word ever since, gaining more and more momentum. The increase in popularity was due to the enhanced results that are achieved when one incorporates Cosmetic Needling to their skin care regimen. When we apply our skin care topically, the amount of those ingredients that will actually get delivered to the skin will be dependent on the thickness of the stratum corneum and the ability for that ingredient to pass the lipid barrier of our skin, which can be as low as 2% in some cases. When adding Cosmetic Micro Needling, that number can increase over 80% of ingredients being delivered to the skin. When Cosmetic Micro Needling, we create microscopic channels in the stratum corneum of the skin which does not hurt and will not damage the skin when done correctly with the proper needling roller. The sole purpose of Cosmetic Needling is to allow for enhanced effectiveness of topically applied ingredients.

The skin is the largest organ of the body and our first line of defense.

The Epidermis is 0.1-0.2mm in thickness, as thin as a sheet of paper, and our Stratum Corneum which is our true protection barrier is even thinner at 0.01-0.02mm. Although this layer is very thin it impedes the absorption of chemicals and water soluble ingredients, so we need to rely on other methods and tools in order to get ingredients not just on the skin but to make true effective changes to the look and feel of the skin.

Are all needling instruments the same?

Absolutely not! There are certain things to look out for when looking into using a Cosmetic Needling roller. First, experience, research, and knowledge behind the company are important factors to consider. Second, manufacturing standards-Not all Cosmetic Needling rollers are manufactured in the same safe, high standard as others. For example, the length of the needles should not be too long as to hurt, should feel comfortable, and also should be made of high quality surgical stainless steel. Third, the quantity of needles on the roller matters so that it is able to create the micro channels effectively in the stratum corneum.

Cosmetic Needling should be done in the evening hours only, since the micro channels stay open for a couple of hours after. To reduce the risk of any damage, it is safer not to roll before direct exposure to UV radiation, application of makeup, or sunscreen.

Cosmetic Needling should be introduced slowly by beginning every third night, then every other, then eventually every night. Cosmetic Needling depth is categorized as any length between a .1mm- .3mm with the most popular length being .1 or .2 mm. At night, after cleansing and toning, needling should be done on dry skin. In order to get the best concentration of micro channels in the skin, it is best to roll in a 3 fold pattern: vertical, horizontal, and diagonal. This will allow for better effectiveness of ingredients.

After Cosmetic Needling, the roller should be rinsed under hot water then carefully placed to dry with needles not touching a hard surface. They should then be soaked in a designated cleansing solution once a week for deeper cleaning. Cosmetic rollers are never to be shared; they are for individual use only. The type of ingredients and formulations that are used after rolling are vital for not just how the skin will tolerate it but for making efficacious results. Using safe formulations such as fat soluble forms of vitamin A and C, growth factors, and peptides will not only ensure that the skin will not become irritated or react in a negative way, but it will assist in improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, scarring, and lax skin. Histologies of the skin have shown an improvement in the appearance of the thickening of the stratum corneum by 100% and a more compact stratum corneum when incorporating cosmetic needling with these skin friendly forms of vitamin A and C .

If you’re looking for a non-invasive, safe, effective tool to use at home, then join the Cosmetic Needling craze and see results for yourself! Give us a call to get more info!

Enhance Wellness With the Gemstone Collection Protocol

by Lina Clémence July 3, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

When clients visit a spa, they’re often seeking more than just results-driven professional treatments that have them looking their best. They also want to leave the spa feeling their best. Enter: The Gemstone Collection Facial Protocol. This skin care ritual was designed to not only refine, replenish and restore the skin, the addition of gemstones will also help delight the senses, leaving clients energized, refreshed and glowing from the inside out.

For clients looking for serenity now, this 10-step facial protocol will leave them wanting more. After all, the better clients look and feel on their way out of your spa, the more likely they are to return. Read on for the entire step-by-step facial protocol, plus information on the home care retail kit your clients will love.

What Is The Gemstone Collection Facial?

Stress can show up on the skin in a number of ways. From skin dryness to premature aging, breakouts and dark circles, physical manifestations of life’s challenges can be difficult to hide. So when a client comes to see you for a facial treatment, it’s important to keep in mind that they’re often looking for help that is more than skin deep.

The Gemstone Facial is an uplifting skin care ritual designed to enhance wellness. Anchored by three fan-favorite formulas crafted with gentle yet potent cleansing, exfoliating and replenishing ingredients, the protocol will help your clients experience a unique moment of tranquility and leave the spa glowing inside and out.

A Step-By-Step Gemstone Collection Facial Protocol

1. Cleanse

Start with a double cleanse to break down makeup and banish impurities. For the first of the two steps, apply Stone Crop Cleansing Oil to help remove makeup, excess sebum and other buildup. Rinse with a warm cloth. Follow this with the Charcoal Exfoliating Gel Cleanser. The charcoal helps with oil balancing and minimizing the look of pores.

2. Tone

Apply the Stone Crop Hydrating Mist to any skin type or the Lime Refresh Tonique for oily or normal skin and leave on.

3. Exfoliate

For all skin types except sensitive and rosacea-prone, apply the Turmeric Energizing Treatment. A preliminary patch test is advised before a general application is made: Cleanse skin behind the ear, apply the product and leave undisturbed for 10 minutes. Due to the active, stimulating properties of this treatment, heated skin and a warm tingling sensation is a natural reaction. Let the client know to expect that tingling sensation, and that will last for a few minutes and may reactivate once water is reintroduced. If no unnatural reaction occurs, continue with the product as directed.

Prepare the Turmeric Energizing Treatment by dispensing 1 small scoop of powder (about 1 teaspoon) into a small mixing bowl. Gradually stir in a few drops of water until a whipped-mousse texture is achieved; recommended ratio is 4 parts powder to 3 parts water. For milder stimulation, increase ratio of water as desired. Apply a thin layer to the entire face, extend to neck and décolleté. Let dry 10–30 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water, massaging gently to exfoliate. Be cautious when removing. Because the treatment will reactivate when you reintroduce water, avoid hot towels and steam that might intensify the heat.

4. Mask

Mix a small amount of Snow Mushroom & Reishi Masque with a few drops of water and apply evenly to the skin. Allow to dry for 5–10 minutes. Remove with a warm, wet towel.

5. Massage

Next, apply the Monoi Age Corrective Night Cream for Face & Neck. Emulsify, spread over the face and massage for 5–7 minutes. Gently remove excess with a warm, wet towel

6. Essence

Gently press a few drops of the Birch Water Purifying Essence into skin until fully absorbed. This lightweight essence replenishes the skin and restores moisture levels. An essential step that helps the skin better absorb and retain the benefits of subsequent products.

7. Serum

Gently pat in 3–4 drops of Citrus & Kale Potent C+E Serum and leave on.

For normal-to-dry skin types, follow with the Camellia Glow Solid Face Oil for additional hydration and anti-aging benefits. The pink tourmaline stones encourage the mind and spirit to feel positive thoughts, boosting a glow from within.

Suki And Poppy’s Guide To Wellness

by Lina Clémence June 25, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Take a moment and think about your best friend. (Ah, now isn’t this nice?) What’s funny about best friends is that more often than not, the two people involved are quite different. Earlybird workout warriors befriend snooze button loyalists, skincare fanatics connect with skincare nihilists, Carrie and Charlotte, you get the picture. So it’s no surprise that best friends Suki Waterhouse and Poppy Jamie take two different roads to skincare, fitness, and sleep hygiene. But the through line that keeps them connected? For one, it’s an appreciation for gratitude, which led them to launching an app called WithGratitude to celebrate it. “A friend who lives in London—I live in LA—and I started sending each other 10 things that we were grateful for every single day. Then Poppy and I started doing the same, and it turned into a massive habit purely from us enjoying it,” says Suki, who outside of building apps, balances a life of touring, acting, and being a mom. On the heels of the app’s launch, ITG caught up with Suki and Poppy to chat about all things skincare, fitness, and of course, gratitude. Their guide to living well below.

Skincare

Poppy Jamie: Suki’s the queen of skincare. You just have to look at her to know that. I can literally see my face in her skin because she’s so glowy.

Suki Waterhouse: I’m a complete skincare junkie, but I’m really into iS Clinical and Biologique Recherche, even though they have literally the smelliest products on Earth. If I’m wearing any Biologique products, my mom will literally tell me to get out of her car because I stink. [Laughs] But I’ve probably used iS Clinical products the longest. I love wearing the Active serum at night and Pro-Heal serum during the day.

During the pandemic, I got very into facial massages and even did an hour long class with FaceGym. They train you and then you can give yourself a completely lifted face with just your hands. It’s incredible. Also, this amazing lady at Biologique told me that we should be cleansing for at least a minute and that blew my mind because I throw my cleanser on and off quickly most of the time. And I will admit that I’ve ignored my neck and my chest. For some reason, there’s a mental block and I just cannot get around to cleansing—and generally applying skincare—there. That’s the next stage for me. Otherwise, I’m going to have a very different-looking face and neck.

PJ: Personally, I’m obsessed with drinking electrolytes. They’ve really helped my skin. And if I’m being honest, I historically have had terrible digestion—and magnesium has been super helpful—but electrolytes have been an absolute game changer with that, too.

SW: Anne Hathaway and I have the same movement coach, Dani—shout out to him, and I found out which brand of electrolytes she takes. It’s called Pique. I obviously then ordered a stack for myself and my skin looks more glowy and all around feels better.

Sleep hygiene

SW: Sleep is Poppy’s big thing. Me? I’m terrible. I’ll fall asleep on the couch in a furry jacket with my shoes on. But Poppy does not play around. She’s going to get eight hours or bust. When we go on a trip together, I’m under a strict regimen.

PJ: It’s all about the wind down. When I’ve had a really busy day and I’m answering emails late at night or I’m watching a really intense program, I’m too wired to fall asleep. I always say you have to treat yourself like a baby. You would never put a baby in its crib and say, ‘Sleep now.’ You would give the baby a bath, read them a story, and give them a bottle. So to wind down, I make Cuddle [Poppy is a co-founder of the brand], a hot chocolate mix with magnesium, which is literally the queen for sleep. Making the drink is also a good way to train my brain into knowing that when I do this certain activity, it’s time for bed.

SW: Cuddle’s also the most delicious thing ever. It’s helped me a lot and is something that I actually look forward to drinking before going to sleep every night. And, of course, Poppy’s right about treating yourself like a baby. I think about that a lot now that I have a baby of my own. The amount of time we put into soothing her and putting her into a cozy state before going to sleep has made me go, ‘Oh my God. This would be great for me.

Gratitude

SW: I don’t have that many rituals in my life, but I find so much pleasure and a sense of peace when I do. And just through the nature of everyone having busy lives, I don’t always know what’s going on with some of the people closest to me. By writing gratitude lists, not only do I have a daily ritual but I’ve also found that it is actually a way to create deeper conversations with people. Sometimes Poppy will see my list on WithGratitude and call me to ask about something I wrote down, like if I’m grateful for resolving some kind of conflict. I feel really deeply connected to the journey that she is on as a person more so than ever before. My empathy for everyone has just grown.

PJ: We’ve been doing writing lists for a year and I haven’t missed a day. It was maybe after two or three months that I realized it was also fundamentally changing the way I think and look at my life. Naturally, we look to the negative, right? Humans are wired to spot danger, and so of course, our brains want to worry about any and all potential threats. To have a practice that forces you to look for the blessings in your life, it really does have an effect on you. I could have the worst day on record, but when I make my gratitude list, I can always find something good, which then allows me to change my perspective and recognize my own resilience.

Plus, aside from making me feel grateful to have friends like Suki reaching out about something I wrote, there’s actual science to doing something like this with your friends. You’re way more likely to turn up to the gym if your friend tells you to meet them there at 10AM because you don’t want to let them down and you’re held accountable. The same applies here.

Fitness

SW: I always feel much better when I hang out or spend the day with Poppy. She always tells me that we have to go outside for an hour every day and she really enforces going for a walk, which I’m not great at. I’m definitely the one that will roll out of bed, order a coffee, not drink any water, go to the studio for eight hours, and not see the sunlight all day. She’s horrified by that.

PJ: The morning walk is critical because none of us get enough vitamin D. It’s so important that you see the daylight during that first hour of your day because it sets your circadian rhythm in motion, which then affects your sleep, too. It also refreshes your mind. I always feel better when I start my day that way. I’m more creative, more productive, and better at processing my thoughts. No one’s walking enough in LA either, but for me, 10,000 steps is a good number to focus on.

a wellness escape by mountains & lakes – The Tezzy Files

by Lina Clémence June 22, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

I escaped the Dubai heat for a week to Carinthia, the southernmost state of Austria renowned for its breathtaking beauty featuring over 1,200 lakes and snow-peaked mountain ranges.

Everything here is so vividly bright and beautiful; brilliant blue skies, emerald-green valleys, and lakes so clear and vibrantly turquoise, you can swim and drink from them. By winter, many of the mountain ranges open as ski resorts, but their beauty is surpassed even through the summer, with scenic hiking and biking trails, and a comfortably breezy yet sunny climate that doesn’t surpass the mid-twenty Celsius range.

How to get to Carinthia

Carinthia is the least populated state of Austria and is so down south that it is closer to get to via Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia where we landed on a 6-hour flight on Fly Dubai from Terminal 3, Dubai. From there, we took the scenic realm via road to Klagenfurt, the capital city of Carinthia.

Klagenfurt town center

We stayed at Garner Moser Verdino, a comfortable 4-star IHG property conveniently located in the heart of Klagenfurt, and in walking distance from the town square and the Lindwurm Dragon fountain, an ode to the mythical creature who is believed to have been the reason behind the city’s creation.

Legend has it that this city was built on marshy plains that was plagued by a dragon, and this is why Klagenfurt was known as the ‘wailing crossing’ (Klage means ‘wailing’, and Furt means ‘crossing’). The local Duke built a tower for safety and hired Knights to slay the dragon. They used a bull with a sharp hook inside it as bait, and when the dragon fell prey, it was victoriously slaughtered by the Knights.

Special thanks to Mr. Markus Strutz from the Carinthian tourism board who shared the story of this mythical dragon with us, and gave me this cute dragon keepsake!

The dragon and the tower have since become symbolic for Klagenfurt, and when the skull of a rhinoceros was excavated in the 16th century, it was the legend of the dragon was sealed as a memorial fountain built in the town square in 1583 from a solid piece of slate from the local Kreuzbergl mountain.

The old town of Klagenfurt is quintessentially European with cobbled streets, narrow alleyways, charming little cafes, and stores selling curios, chocolate and other local merchandise.

Other noteworthy monuments of Klagenfurt include a 400 year-old statue of Empress Maria Theresia, the mother of Austria who famously abolished torture, and made it compulsory for children aged 6 and above to get an education, the Golden Goose building which dates back to 1489 and continues to be used as a meeting place for the city council. Not related to the highly coveted sneakers, this building features a striking sculpture of a golden goose at its entrance.

At the centre of the bustling town square of Klagenfurt is the Plague Column, first erected in carved wood in 1681 as a gesture of thanks to the ruing council for minimizing the Black Death toll of Europe by keeping the city closed off. It was later recreated in 1683 with marble with a cross ascending into a crescent symbolizing victory over the Ottomans.

The legend of the Wörtherseemandl

Another sculpture that caught my attention was that of the Wörtherseemandl.

We came across this ancient bronze fountain featuring a staunch little man holding his index finger up in pure reverence. This is the Wörtherseemandl, a mythical Carinthian figure. Legend has it that this little man created Lake Wörthersee, the largest clear-water lake in Carinthia that attracts tourists the world over for its scenic beauty, swimming facilities and water sports.

The story goes, thousands of years ago, a very wealthy city was located where Lake Wörthersee now flows. The inhabitants of this city were so wealthy, they became pompous and lost touch with the church. One Christmas Eve, when the entire population gathered for a festive feast at the town hall, a short, bearded stranger paid them a visit. He put his index finger up in warning, pleading with the congregation to attend Christmas mass, for disobeying would lead to dire consequences. He was laughed at and ridiculed, and deeply insulted, he left the hall only to return at midnight with a small barrel under his arm.

When the crowd began to mock him again, the little man retorted, “If you will not have it otherwise, death and destruction come upon you and your sinful city!” He smashed the the barrel, and masses of water poured out. The banquet hall was suddenly submerged in an endless flow of water that no one could stop. The little man suddenly disappeared, and the entire population drowned.

The water from his barrel completely submerged the city and is known as today’s Lake Wörthersee. The fabled little man is called Wörtherseemandl (which translates to ‘thelittle man ofWörthersee’).

This bronze fountain depicting Wörtherseemandl is a significant monument in the town centre of Klagenfurt, and it is believed that if you hold his upheld finger, make a wish, and throw a coin into the fountain, your wish will be granted.

Lake Wörthersee

Lake Wörthersee is the largest lake in the Carinthia district and listed as one of Austria’s most scenic spots. It boasts of crystal-clear water that is so pure, you can actually drink it in the early parts of the year between January to March before it gets an influx of swimming enthusiasts from across the world.

On our first night in Klagenfurt, we dined at Maria Loretto, a family-owned restaurant boasting of panoramic views of the lake where we witnessed a very magical Carinthian sunset.

The next day, we boarded a Nostalgia Bus to the ferry that took us across Lake Wörthersee to Maria Worth where we enjoyed a scenic walk across nature taking in the beauty of the greenery, mountains and lakes, and even visited a church.

The highlight of our time at Maria Worth was going up the Pyramidenkogel, the world’s tallest wooden lookout tower where the panoramic views of Carinthia were even more breathtakingly beautiful! Best of all, I decided to come sliding down the tower instead of using the lift!

We lunched at Linde in Maria Worth, yet another dining spot with spectacular views of the lakes and the freshest seafood on offer.

That afternoon, after a leisurely stroll around the town center of Velden which is renowned to be the shopping capital of Carinthia and a casino hub, we had a lovely tea-party by the lakes at the five-star Falkensteiner Schlosshotel that looks like a majestic palace.

The remainder of our stay was at Hotel Warmbaderhof located in Warmbad-Villach, Carintha.

Wellness getaway at Hotel Warmbaderhof

Hotel Warmbaderhof is not just a luxurious 5-star property, but a wellness oasis that has been providing a sanctuary for bonvivants and health enthusiasts for over 200 years. The hotel provides various customizable wellness and medical packages, and the highlights of my stay included:

  • My beautifully inviting room complete with a welcome pack including a spa bag for my stay, lavender mist for a great night’s sleep, a fresh fruits platter, and a serene view of the lush gardens and mountains beyond.
  • The Healing Thermal Water Pool; one of its kind in Europe, this swimming pool has been built above a thermal spring where healing water springs from the earth and replenishes every three hours. The Warmbad healing water has therapeutic properties that alleviate pain and stress, is anti-inflammatory, improves circulation and is even used to treat more complex locomotor disorders. I had a dip in this magical pool every morning of my stay, and came out feeling sublimely relaxed and refreshed.
  • My Vibe facial at the Warmbad spa where I got introduced to the Vibe skincare range (pronounced vi-bbe after the goddess of the thermal springs).
  • I finally tried our Cryotherapy at the -110 ° Kryo Suite Warmbad where I got into the cold chamber for 3 whole minutes and came out feeling like I’ve conquered the world! I’ve been an addict of ice-baths, so this turned out to be much easier for me despite the far lower temperature range. Cryotherapy helps reduce inflammation, relieve pain, boost circulation, and accelerate muscle recovery, making it popular for both athletic performance and overall wellness.

Nature trails around Carinthia

There are countess trails across Carinthia to take in its natural beauty. One of my most memorable experiences was at Monkey Affenberg (transating to ‘Monkey Mountain’), a walk through the lush greenery of an outdoor enclosure where you get to see the adorable antics and everyday lives of Japanese macaques with a trained guide.

We took in the fresh alpine mountain air on a road trip up the winding paths of Nockberge Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO Biosephere Reserve destination offering a high level of biodiversity and high-quality habitats for plants and animals.

The Nockberge Biosphere Reserve even has a museum dedicated to trees and the sustainability of wood, and we discovered a very potent local Schnapp made with the local tree saplings here.

We also indulged in possibly our best, and most authentic Austrian lunch on the peaks of Nockberge; a vegetrarian fare featuring many forms of the famous Austrian Ricotta Balls.

If you are dreaming of a mountainous getaway in a beautifully quaint Austrian lodge complete with lush meadow views, I have two great suggestions for you.

Book a few nights in the mountains

Seasonal Wellness and Allergies | Maple Holistics

by Lina Clémence June 18, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Introduction

Springtime brings us endless blooms, warmer weather, new signs of life and tremendous shades of green as the trees begin to awake from their sleep. However, as beautiful as Spring can be, it also comes with its challenges. Allergies caused by pollen, pet dander and dust seem to become an overwhelming nuisance and these seasonal changes can often interfere with our skin and overall wellness. That said, you can always find light at the end of the tunnel by using a few hacks and making simple routine changes that make a world of difference as we transition into the warmer months.

How To Sniff Out The Problem

We often mistake allergies for the flu.

As we come out of Winter, it can be easy to mistake your sniffles and sneezes as the beginning stages of a cold or flu, but often the real issue at hand is caused by allergies. The common symptoms of allergies usually include watery eyes, a runny nose and an itchy sneeze that never seems to go away. Being able to tell the difference between allergies and a flu can make a huge impact on your overall wellness and comfort, and here’s exactly how you can do just that.

1. Understanding your allergies

Like most issues in life, there is often a root cause behind them, and allergies are no different. Typically, allergies are your body’s response to harmless substances such as pollen, dust and mold, all of which commonly occur during the Spring. Everybody’s body is their own, and people have different triggers which impacts the way their body reacts to these substances. This is why it’s important to understand your triggers in order to avoid any unwanted sniffles and irritation.

2. Allergy vs. Cold: Spotting the Difference

Although allergies and colds manifest with similar symptoms like sneezing, a runny nose and congestion, it’s generally quite easy to tell them apart. The easiest way to spot the difference is by looking at the timeline. If your symptoms last longer than a week, then it’s most likely allergies that are plaguing your wellness. An allergic reaction is usually accompanied by sneezing and itchy eyes, but minus the fever, lethargy and body aches that are attached to the common cold or flu.

3. Common Allergy Triggers

Certain nuts can trigger allergies.

As we mentioned before, the biggest culprits responsible for those nasty allergies are pollen, pet dander, mold and dust. They have a negative effect on your wellness and so an allergic reaction is your body’s way of staving off these substances. Certain foods such as nuts, eggs, and shellfish may also trigger allergic reactions. Performing a simple blood test through your healthcare provider can help you find out if you have any allergies, and also help you to understand your triggers and avoid them wherever possible.

The Power of Prevention

Now that we’ve determined that getting to know your specific triggers and allergies is the best way to beat your allergies, it can also be helpful to know that prevention is better than treatment when it comes to your allergies.

1. How to Allergy-Proof Your Home

Preventing the onset of allergies starts in your home, where you’re likely to spend a lot of your time. The air that you’re breathing can have a huge impact on your wellness, so clearing the air in your home is a great place to start. You can make a small investment in an air purifier which helps to trap dust and pollen or make use of plants with air-purifying properties such as snakeplants, lilly flax or spekboom potplants. In addition to clearing the air, keep the windows closed during windy days, regularly wash your bedding in hot water to eliminate dust mites and use an allergy-proof pillowcase to avoid triggering an influx of the sniffles.

2. Nutrition and Lifestyle Hacks

Healthy food, healthy body.

Your diet plays a huge role in your wellness, skin health and it also affects your body’s ability to fight off allergies. This is why it’s important to eat plenty of foods that are rich in antioxidants. Leafy greens, berries, wholegrains, nuts, seeds and vegetables are all types of food that can give your body an antioxidant boost from within. Furthermore, drinking an appropriate amount of water everyday makes a big difference, and staying clear of processed, oily and fatty foods are amazing, yet simple lifestyle hacks that can improve your overall wellness.

3. Staying Ahead of Allergy Season

They say that those who fail to plan, plan to fail, and the same can be said for allergy season. We know that prevention is the best form of medicine, and so preparing for allergy season can help you fight off your symptoms before they even arrive. To manage allergies, it’s important to avoid known triggers when possible, use medications like antihistamines and nasal sprays, and keep living spaces clean to reduce exposure to allergens. In some cases, allergy shots may be recommended to help improve your wellness.

Kitchen Cabinet Cures

If you missed the prevention stage, and you’re playing catchup with your allergies and seasonal wellness, fear not, because there are many items and treatments you can use, which may already be in your home. Many common ingredients, like honey, turmeric, and apple cider vinegar, have anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties that can help reduce your symptoms.

1. Keep The Sniffles At Bay With Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar.

Apple cider vinegar is a powerful home remedy that can be used for a number of things, including your overall wellness, skincare and allergic reactions. When it comes to allergies, the water vapor created from adding apple cider vinegar to boiling water can be especially beneficial. Inhaling the vapor can help remove mucus and clear out your nasal passages. While this doesn’t completely cure your allergies, it certainly makes breathing a little easier.

2. A Spoonful of Honey The Sniffles Away

Ancient cultures have been using honey as a natural remedy long before modern humans, and still today it can play a huge role in your wellness routine. Honey, potentially has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. A spoonful of honey a day can help you build up a tolerance towards pollen, however the best way to do this is to start in the winter before spring and its multitude of pollen arrives. Finally, honey can also be helpful in clearing the throat and nasal passages.

3. Spice Away The Sneeze – Turmeric tea

Much like honey, turmeric is a powerful natural remedy that humans have used for centuries. You can easily add it to your diet as a spice, or boost your seasonal wellness by drinking it as a tea. It can help reduce symptoms of a sore throat, water eyes and help to clear congestion. Spice away your sneeze with turmeric and help keep your body balanced and your allergies at bay.

Essential Oils for Easy Breathing

Essential oils can be a potent weapon in your arsenal when fighting off seasonal allergies. They are derived from natural substances like leaves, twigs and the flowers of certain plants. Certain essential oils can help make breathing through allergies more comfortable as well as having the added benefit of aiding in soothing your senses.

1. Peppermint Essential Oil

Not only is peppermint essential oil known for its cooling, soothing effects, but it also can help clear congestion and make breathing more comfortable. Adding a few drops of this oil to your diffuser can help to ease your sinuses and clear your air passages. Many people also use it topically, first diluting it with an appropriate carrier oil and then applying it directly to the chest area in order to open up your airways more effectively.

2. Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender.

Calm your allergies with lavender.

Lavender essential oil is popular for its calming, floral fragrance and is a staple amongst aromatherapy enthusiasts. However, it can also be used for enhancing your overall wellness routines, thanks to its medicinal properties.  Inhaling lavender oil can reduce sneezing, congestion, and other allergy symptoms. The best way to use it for fighting off allergies is to diffuse lavender in your bedroom for a peaceful night’s sleep, free from bothersome symptoms.

3. Eucalyptus Essential Oil

Eucalyptus essential oil has long been considered as a natural remedy for respiratory issues and it’s because of that that it can be used in the fight against allergies. It has a woody, herbaceous scent and helps open the airways and reduce mucus buildup. When diffused or used in a steam inhalation, eucalyptus oil can provide relief from allergy-related congestion, allowing you to breathe easier.

Conclusion

As we make the shift out of winter and the spring blooms become more abundant, allergies can become an irritating side effect on our wellness. However, by recognizing your triggers and incorporating preventative measures, along with natural remedies from your kitchen and essential oils, you can significantly reduce the impact of allergies on your daily life. Remember, prevention is always the best strategy, but there are plenty of ways to ease symptoms if they do arise. So, embrace the beauty of Spring without the discomfort of seasonal allergies, and let your body thrive with the right care and attention.

Misunderstanding Sun Protection – Euphoria Skin and Wellness

by Lina Clémence May 31, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

Protecting our skin from the harmful effects of the sun is essential for maintaining healthy, youthful skin. Unfortunately, there are some misconceptions that leave many people without enough sun protection. It is our job as skin care providers to put a stop to these myths so clients have proper protection and get optimal results.

Proper use of sun block

Sunscreen will prevent me from getting Vitamin D

Vitamin D is an essential vitamin needed by our body to carry out everyday functions including immune support bone health, muscle function, calcium absorption, and more. Our skin synthesizes vitamin D through UVB exposure; and SPF 30 sunscreen blocks about 97% of the sun’s UVB rays. This can be a concern for many people, especially those that are low in vitamin D. Research shows that normal use of sunscreen does not result in vitamin D deficiency. Not only do most people not apply enough sunscreen to stop the body from producing vitamin D, but we only need about 10-30 minutes of sun exposure to create enough of it. If someone is truly concerned with their vitamin D levels, they should have their doctor do a simple blood test and discuss the use of a vitamin D supplement. You can also consider incorporating more vitamin D-rich foods (like salmon, cheese and fortified milk) into their diet.

Sunscreen is bad for you

Several chemical sunscreens contain oxybenzone or octinoxate, ingredients that some studies suggest are endocrine disruptors. However, there are no studies that prove that these ingredients lead to any harmful effects. In fact, the American Cancer Society released a statement saying it “encourages the use of FDA-approved sunscreens,” which includes those with oxbenzone and octinoxate. Another concern with chemical sunscreens is they can be irritating to sensitive skin. For consumers who are concerned, they can choose a sunscreen that does not contain chemical filters, such as a physical sunscreen containing titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. Overall, the most important thing is that we wear sunscreen, whether the prefer a chemical or physical.

It’s good to get a base tan before vacation

Most people are aware that there is a risk of sunburn when going to warmer climates where the sun’s rays are much stronger. There is a big misconception that by getting a “base tan,” they’ll be provided sun protection on their vacation. This is simply not true. According to the U.S. Surgeon General and proven by many clinical studies, a base tan only provides an SPF of 3 or less. This is essentially meaningless in terms of sun protection. The best thing the client can do is apply SPF 30 or higher every two hours.

Makeup with SPF is enough

Many people believe that using makeup products that contain SPF is sufficient to protect their skin from the sun. While makeup with SPF offers some level of protection, it is often not enough to provide adequate coverage. To ensure effective sun protection, it is recommended to use a separate sunscreen with broad-spectrum protection before applying makeup.

It is well known that sunscreen use prevents skin cancer and slows the appearance of aged skin. The use of antioxidants with sunscreens should also be a priority; although sunscreens protect from UV exposure, damaging free radicals can still be created. You should protect all areas of the body, including the scalp. Clarifying misconceptions about sun protection is crucial for ensuring the long-term health of our skin. Remember, when using sunscreen, the benefits will always outweigh the risks!

We are offering 10% off our EltaMd SPF products for the month of May! Included is a free gift with every purchase. Get yours today!
