Best Books of the Year (so far) (Q1 2024)

by Lina Clémence July 21, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

I can’t believe we’re already so far into 2024. My reading goal for the year is 30 books but I might have to up that based on how fast I’m reading this year (15 books down at the time of writing). I know putting things in quarters is super business-y, but I thought it would be a good way to break down the year so far.

First, an ode to StoryGraph

StoryGraph logo

One thing that I’d like to highlight about this year’s reading so far is that I’ve started to use StoryGraph a lot more compared to Goodreads. I started to use StoryGraph originally last year for a buddy read I did, but I found that the tracking was just so much more comprehensive than Goodreads. I’m not only able to track the books that I’ve read, but also the pages, adding custom tags, genres, and just see breakdowns that I would have to do manually myself. All in all, I would totally recommend StoryGraph if you’re looking for the level of stats on your reading like I am.

The Cream of the Crop – Five Stars

5 star reads q1 2024

OK let’s move into my favourite books of the year (so far). I’ll start off with the 5 stars as clearly those ones have been my most favourite so far. The first one is Bride by Ali Hazelwood. This book I was pretty sure I would love, and I was totally right. With this being her first paranormal romance (and really my first as a reader), I didn’t know what to expect. I found it engaging, the characters likeable, and the plot interesting. I can’t wait to read more in this series (cause it definitely set it up for a sequel).

I rated five stars to House of Flame and Shadow by Sarah J Maas. This is the third instalment of the Crescent City book series. It’s no surprise if you follow me that I am a huge fan and really enjoy her books. I know a lot of people had their qualms with this one which I totally respect and agree in some aspects, but this was still a five star read for me. I found it gripping and I liked where the characters went, including the crossover between her other series. I know some people say that Crescent City is one of Sarah J Maas’ weakest series, but to be honest it’s one of my favorites. I’m looking forward to her new ACOTAR book that’s coming out soon and I’m currently finishing off the Throne of Glass series slowly.

The last book I rated five stars (so far) is Denison Avenue by Christina Wong. This one I saw on CBC‘s Canada Reads competition where they have people champion books that they feel the entirety of Canada should read. Based on what I had heard on the show, I was super interested in just the concept and the multimedia nature of it with both the detailed line drawings, and the story itself.  I have to say that this book was extremely personal to me and that I could see my family represented so clearly (scarily so). The five stars might be a personal choice for me for sure, but I do think it’s still worth a read as difficult as it can be at points

Still High, But Not The Highest – 4.5 and 4 Stars

4 and 4.5 star reads Q1 2024

I’ll go on to the books that I rated 4 and 4.5 stars. The first 4.5 stars that I have is Tell Me Everything by Minka Kelly. I listened to this one as an audiobook. I found it really captivating, and just hearing her narrate her own story was both heartbreaking and powerful.

Another 4.5 star read, Shut Up You’re Pretty by Tea Mutonji, also featured on Canada Reads. This features short stories related to the main character’s struggles within her world set in Scarborough. The writing really kept me hooked and I liked how the short stories jumped around. It definitely emulated the feeling of being lost and the need for survival.

One of the most recent books that I finished was The Space Between Here and Now by Sarah Suk this one actually really surprised me by how much I liked it. This is toted as a YA, but I do think this transcends genres. It’s a time travelling book with the main character, Aimee, who is struggling with a disorder that takes her back to memories. There’s a mystery aspect and a couple twists thrown in there too. I just found the writing really engaging and you could really feel for the character and support her.

The four star book which I also finished quite recently was Have You Seen Her by Catherine McKenzie. I picked this up in Montreal on a work trip and it intrigued me seeing that Catherine McKenzie is from Montreal and this book was picked up by the Montreal Mystery Festival. This was a very fast paced thriller that I got through super easily and was kept super engaged throughout. It was everything that I was looking for in a thriller and I can’t wait to read more from this author.

And those are my favourite books of the year (so far). I definitely think I’m quite liberal in my ratings. I either really like a book or it’s just OK. I have a feeling that I’ll be continuing to have higher rated books throughout the year and I can’t wait to see what will be next. Have you read any of these books? Thanks so much for reading. Have a great day!

The Best Gift You Can Give Yourself This Year? An End of Year Review…

by Lina Clémence June 30, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

This is a guest post written by Iti Malken, Self-Development Expert and the Creator of Level Up by Iti.

Often at this time of year you are likely to be thinking about what the new year will bring and you might find that you are already filling up your calendar with events and plans. But before you start focusing on 2023, it’s important to close out the old year with intention.

Iti Malken self-development expert and the creator of the Level Up by Iti method says, “By the end of the year, we can forget a lot that happened. We might think that the year didn’t go so well. However, after writing up our annual review, we soon realise that we had many more successes than we originally remembered”.

Sitting down to do an annual review takes time, patience, and can feel a little uncomfortable and confronting. Why spend time doing this when you could be watching that festive Netflix movie you might ask?

Reflecting on the year is a powerful way to understand the patterns of your life and if you are moving in circles. This allows you to find new and better ways over the usual pathways and take note of the wins and losses of your life. Celebrate the wins and be compassionate with the things that did not go that well. What is important here: the clarity you get is the basis to new ideas and positive change.

It’s actually the perfect antidote to the Christmas chaos giving you some much-needed time to reflect and give you a head start on the year ahead, your goals and vision.

Iti Malken, a self-development expert, says “Your annual review really is the best gift you can give yourself at the end of each year and will give you strong foundations upon which to set and achieve your goals. For me it has become an essential part of my own personal development journey and can be even more powerful than creating a vision board.

Overview

Often, we are so focused on what our new year goals are we forget to appreciate the achievements from the last 12 months. With 2023 just around the corner, now is a great time to pause and reflect on the past twelve months by writing your end of year personal review.

This exercise will help to set you up for success in January by reflecting on what you achieved during the year, what obstacles you faced and overcame and most importantly the lessons you learnt. Think of it as taking an honest look at the year and what went well, your achievements and the things that perhaps didn’t go so well.

An annual review isn’t easy. But when you commit to taking an honest look at your year— your highs, your lows, your actions, your mindset — you shift your life’s trajectory.

The Things You Will Need To Do Your Review

Plan around two hours of uninterrupted time where you can be on your own. Think of it as a mini retreat and create a comfortable environment where you can relax. You can use a desk or spread out on the floor. Grab a cup of tea, light a candle or do whatever you need to feel nourished and get the creativity flowing. Try to turn your phone and notifications off.

You will need some large blank sheets of paper and pens and ideally your journals, notebooks and diaries from the year so you can review everything. If you use the notes app on your phone and you tend to store things digitally then you can use your phone, just make sure it is in flight mode for part one.

How To Get started

You can review your year in a way that feels good to you and you can review it based on your own criteria. You might want to do a straight review of the goals you set in 2022. Which ones did you meet and which ones are you perhaps rolling over into 2023?

You might want to go back through your old journals and notebooks from the year and do a month-by-month review. Remember there isn’t just one way of doing this and if you personalise the process you are more likely to enjoy it and then it can become a yearly ritual that you begin to look forward to.

The simplest strategy is to split the review into two sections. You will find a series of questions below which will give you both a snapshot of where you are right now and also dig deeper into the different areas of life and shine a light on where you might want to make changes.

Once you have got settled in your space with everything you need you can do a short 10-minute meditation to come into the present moment.

Then take some time to free-write in your journal. How are you feeling right now? What emotions are coming up? Don’t judge what you are writing – it might just be keywords that are coming up or even ideas. There is no judgement.

Now it’s time to start jotting down the answers to some questions that will help you to organise your thoughts and feelings. Again, there is no right or wrong way to do this. Just allow yourself to answer them freely and without judgement. Some might feel more relevant than others.

General Review Questions

What were your key highlights of the year?

What are you most proud of?

What went well? What didn’t go well?

What was the biggest lesson (or lessons) you learned this year?

What new skills did you learn this year?

What was most challenging for you, and how did it make you feel?

What were your three biggest work accomplishments? What contributed to them?

Are there any other goals apart from the work you achieved that you are proud of?

Have you developed any healthy habits you want to keep?

What was the best decision you made all year? What did you learn from it?

People And Relationships

How has your relationship with yourself changed this year?

Which people in your life are you most grateful for?

Which person has inspired you the most this year and how?

Which person had the biggest negative impact on your life? Why?

What new relationships enhanced your life? Who? How?

The Year Ahead

Now you have reflected on the past 12 months, it’s time to start thinking ahead to 2023. You should now have clarity on what you want to work and your aspirations so you can start the strategic planning part.

To get started, answer the following questions

What would a dream year look like for you in 2023?

What does success in 2023 mean for you?

What three big goals will you accomplish next year?

How do your goals for 2023 translate into actionable habits and processes?

What habits, behaviours, or attitudes will you need to develop or adopt next year?

What habits and behaviours do you need to change?

Try to dig deeper into the questions and answer them fully, really identifying your why and the reason behind wanting to achieve each goal.

Put Your Dreams Into Actionable Goals

You’ve already mastered the deep work of your annual review. What’s left is a plan that helps you move towards your desired 2023 outcome.

Once you’ve broken down your dreams into actionable processes, summarise your reflections on one sheet. This summary will be your foundation for 2023. Place it somewhere where you can see it each day like on a mirror.

The recommendation with this would be to break each goal down into manageable steps with each goal having a monthly progress check in. In order to keep the momentum going it’s crucial to check in on where you are at so that any problems or red flags can be dealt with.

For best results do this review every 3 months or so, review previously set goals and add new ones if needed.

Setting Yourself Up For Success

Remember that once you have put your goal setting in place and you have a clear roadmap to navigate you that you need to let go of your vision. Remember you can only control so much of the process and that is your mindset and input. There will of course be some bumps in the road and you will need to course correct, or perhaps you decide that something you previously planned out you are no longer in alignment with. The only thing you need to focus on at any given time is the next tangible step.

I hope these questions help you as you draw up goals for the new year, and I also hope they help you to honour yourself and your achievements.

A Year of Surprises & The End of the K-Beauty Decade

by Lina Clémence June 29, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

This year has been a plot twist that I never saw coming. Yes, this is happening: a post, on my blog, shambling out of a dusty corner of empties and snarled with torn webbing of sheetmask silk.

Even though this year has been non-stop and the most transformative and momentous period of the decade for me, I couldn’t let this year pass without an update +  some thoughts about the past and future of K-Beauty.

The pacific northwest is so much more beautiful than any photo can convey.

Many of you have sent me messages and emails asking what I’ve been up to, why I haven’t been posting, and if I’m going to be posting again. Here it is, and this year has been wild.

In this post:

  • What I’ve been doing instead of blogging aka “The Year Life Yanked Me Out of One Timeline and Shoved Me Into a Totally Different One”
  • What hooked me on K-Beauty & why my loins are no longer aflame about it
  • What soured me on the K-Beauty scene & beauty blogging
  • Where I think K-Beauty is going in the next decade if it lasts

Have you ever had the experience of having the next, say, 5-10 years of your life plotted out, and you’re minding your own business, living day to day, and then suddenly, something happens that snatches you up by the nose hairs and hurls you, metaphorical pants around ankles, into a completely new reality?

(Seriously, drop me a comment if you have had this happen to you. Because, wtf, man.)

What I’ve been doing instead of blogging, aka “The Year Life Yanked Me Out of One Timeline and Shoved Me Into a Totally Different One”

Last year, I was headed towards a future of banal domesticity. We’d bought our first house. We got a puppy. We made friends. We started renovating our house. My puppy became a tiny, sanity-and-home-destroying demon that devoured all my time and energy with the same gusto that she dispatched stuffed toys.

Thankfully, puppies don’t stay puppies forever, although you still have to survive their second, longer phase, the Final Boss Form known as a “teenager” which is much worse.

So naturally, I got another one. That’s not the plot twist, either.

Tiny border collie puppy is fierce, and fluffy
“Did your crazy ass get a second border collie?!” Yes, yes I did.

She was smol, she was floofy, she was born in December of last year, and we brought her home in February. She tormented Not-As-Tiny Demon with a vigor that felt karmic in its proportions, and life felt settled. We established a routine. I started washing my face again. My husband was becoming established in his career, and things were stable. Oppressively stable, even.

I was still miserable; living in the US for over a decade had taken its toll on me. I felt old, exhausted, lifeless. I was nearing the end of my 30’s, and was frankly resigned to early-onset middle age.

Then, it happened.

Beautiful cherry blossoms in Vancouver, Canada
The cherry blossom festival had me millennial-ing with my phone every few feet.

We went on vacation. (Resentfully, in my case!) It was a last-minute thing, with expiring flight credits and credit card travel points being the driving factor. I didn’t want to be away from my dogs, but off we went to Vancouver, Canada in the spring.

Predictably, it was heartbreaking. It felt so good to be home in Canada, to be back in a diverse place, to walk by a pair of young girls wearing hijabs who didn’t react to our presence by averting their eyes, stopping their conversation, or hurrying past nervously. The scenery was breathtaking, giving us mountains, forests, and ocean in a single glance.

Mountain and forest stream in British Columbia
B.C is really pretty. Really, really pretty.

And the food! My god, the food. Hand-pulled noodles. Ramen. Cheap, yet fresh sushi. Poke. Japanese bakeries. European charcuteries. Persian markets. Korean BBQ.

Korean BBQ
Korean BBQ made me want to weep with joy while shoving it down my maw

Vancouver is one of the most beautiful, and expensive, cities in the world. My husband fell in love, of course; being Canadian myself I knew that living there is a pipe dream few can afford.

But he couldn’t let it go: “I wonder what the job market is like in Vancouver.”

Me: *laughs in jaded realism*

Dr. Mr. The Pear: “There’s a job posting in my specialty, should I apply just to see?”

Me: *still laughing* “Why not, it’s not like they would offer us something that would make it worth it to sell the house we just bought, and move across the country.”

Me, my husband, and the Vancouver job market:
Time to laugh, loudly and at length
Who wants to move to Vancouver? Ok, who wants to move to Vancouver *and* still afford to eat? BAHAHAHAHAHAA!

Er, yeah. Welp. Come Mother’s Day weekend, we’ve suddenly got a job offer that we can’t refuse.

We’d have to sell our house. We’d have to finish renovating our house to sell it. He’d have to go through immigration. He’d have to leave for Canada, almost immediately. I’d have to stay behind, finish work on the house, hire contractors for what I couldn’t DIY, handle both dogs, put the house on the market, pack all our stuff and move it, by myself. Without a car, in a small, non-transit-or-walking-friendly Midwest town.

But on the other hand, Vancouver. Vancouver, Canada. To be home, to be free of the escalating shitshow that is US politics, to live in a place dreamt of by many. To be independent again, to feel safe. Dare I hope, happy again.

So we did it. In the space of a few weeks, we went from confident we were going to be living a small, withering, but comfortable little life, in our little house, in a little town, to uprooting everything and moving to another country.

Not going to lie, renovating a house by myself with dogs underfoot was hell, and it took forever.

Gluing down hardwood flooring really sucks
Have you ever installed glue-down hardwood flooring? If you haven’t, it sucks.

I’ll spare you the gory, boring details of construction drama, packing and moving drama, immigration drama, and house selling drama, but if you’ve done any of the above, you know it’s the endless, protracted, very wrong kind of excitement.

It also didn’t feel real. It still doesn’t feel real, even though I’m now typing this in front of a fireplace, gazing out the window at the lights of the city, listening to the perpetual rain of the Pacific Northwest. I’m happy. My husband is happy. We eat amazing food. We walk, we hike, we go to the gym and enjoy it. Our dogs miss the constant games of fetch in our large backyard, but love getting muddy in exciting, wild places.

Muddy, but happy, dogs in a mountain stream
What’s the best thing to do while covered in mud? Hop in a stream and shake!

I feel alive again. I’m excited about the future, and while it’s a slow process undoing the damage a decade of depression has left on my body, and mind, it’s happening. It’s happening.

What hooked me on K-Beauty & why my loins are no longer aflame about it

Don’t get me wrong, after almost an entire decade of using, thinking, and occasionally writing about K-Beauty, I still love it. But I loved it in part because it forced me to learn new things, because it was challenging and inaccessible, because the leading experts on it were everyday people like me, cobbling together ingredients lists from Google Translate and comparing swatches on forums.

Products became popular through word-of-mouth and performance, not because they landed in a beauty editor’s PR pile with a promo cheque attached. Ever read a “Best K-Beauty Products list” on a mainstream media site and wonder where the hell they got their picks from, because you’ve either never heard of any of the products, or they’re mediocre at best? They are there because their brands, or the shops that carry them, are willing to pay to play.

The science of skincare was a new frontier for me, full of chemistry and dazzling studies and new knowledge waiting for those willing to slog through Google Scholar. But once you’ve adjusted to accommodate pH, gentle surfactants, and worked out which chemical exfoliants work for your skin, there’s not much more to do. Hydrate your skin, then seal it in with a richer moisturizer, and you’re set.

Desperate to maintain the momentum of new, cutting-edge technology, K-Beauty PR turned to increasingly ludicrous gimmicks like splash masks, sheet masks with injectable ampoules, microneedle masking patches, acupressure masks, and an endless array of sexy new extracts that were supposed to revolutionize skincare yet disappeared from our radar within a year.

What soured me on the K-Beauty scene & beauty blogging

Not gonna lie, K-Beauty hit its peak in 2014-2016, and it’s been fading ever since. When the conversation shifted from the discoveries of everyday users to the narratives of shops who cheerfully retconned the rise of K-Beauty in the west while repackaging its garage-band grassroots appeal into a contrived shine of corporate gloss.

Worse, somehow those everyday users, the bloggers, the forum posters, the Instagram reviewers were rebranded into “influencers”, a term which sparked immediate loathing the first time it landed in my inbox. The concept of peddling one’s influence, as a personality or media figure, rather than focusing on the quality of their work, was deeply offensive to me.

It remains one of the biggest deterrents whenever I think about sitting down for a quick review of my latest go-to sunscreen, like a whiff of tequila evoking the memory of a hangover so violent it taught you the meaning of projectile vomiting.

The plague of “influencer culture” on the beauty blogging sphere provides both a pressure to have a very polished, high production value style especially on Instagram, while also stripping away individuality and authenticity, like the social media equivalent of the Stepford Wives.  (See @Insta_Repeat, and just imagine that in a beauty product form.)

Having a unique voice, good research, thorough testing, or your own style pales in comparison to mastering the perfect flat lay, with carefully-yet-carelessly glimpsed trappings of a successful life, usually adorable succulents in a monochrome white setting with a few tasteful mixed metal accents thrown in. Or, alternatively, whatever Glossier is doing these days.

Where I think K-Beauty is going in the next decade if it lasts

Honestly, I’m not sure whether there’s anywhere to go, other than further dispersal into mainstream beauty until it becomes just another option in the cosmetics aisle.

And I’m not sure that’s a bad thing, either; K-Beauty has had some really dodgy marketing in the past, leaning heavily on Orientalism, so the idea of it being viewed in the same way as, say, French beauty, where it has its own style but is still commonplace, is a perfect middle ground.

As Fanserviced-b put it: “K-Beauty isn’t punk anymore” and we’re almost at the KidzBop-version levels of saturation. It seems that most mainstream beauty users are chasing the all-in-one simplicity of the VSCO girl’s skincare routine. (Even though I still don’t like the spork approach. Please just give me two things that work really well, rather than one thing that does two jobs badly.)

The 2010’s were definitely the decade of K-Beauty, but I think that heyday has come to an end. There are still great products out there to be tried and reviewed, and I’ll be doing just that, but I think the golden age of new discoveries and exciting advancements is fading into a twilight glow, like office-appropriate highlighter. Just with better skin, and really great sunscreen. I’ll need it; I have a lot of hiking to do.

The view from a Vancouver off-leash dog hiking park
If this is the winter view, I can only imagine how beautiful this park view will be come spring.

Have you ever been upended into someone else’s dream life? Or do you have thoughts on whether K-Beauty is still on the rise, or on the wane?

Have something you’d like to share with me in general?  Snap a pic and tag me on Instagram at @snowwhiteandtheasianpear because I’d love to see it!

All the best,

-Cat

| New Year, Better Me |

by Lina Clémence June 22, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

It’s that magical time of the year again! The festive season fades, and with it comes the urge to hit the reset button on life. Whether it’s picking up where you left off or closing a few chapters to make space for new ones, the New Year always feels like an invitation to start fresh. I’ve been looking forward to writing this blog throughout December. Part of me wishes Christmas would linger a little longer, while the other part eagerly anticipates sitting down with a glass of Pinot Noir, jazz playing softly in the background, and putting my thoughts into words.

Writing this blog and creating my vision board has become a cherished ritual. It gives clarity to what I need to focus on and highlights areas that deserve more attention. This post isn’t about a “new year, new me.” I’ve worked hard to become the person I am today and have no intention of reinventing myself. Instead, I embrace the idea of “new year, better me.” There’s always room for growth, and I’m excited to share how I plan to make 2025 my most balanced and fulfilling year yet.

Reflecting on the Past Year

Last year was a journey of growth and discovery. Many items from my vision board came to life—not perfectly, but in ways that felt meaningful and encouraging. It’s a wonderful feeling to look back and see the progress I’ve made, even in small steps. I’m truly proud of how I’ve worked on my intentions and made strides in different areas of my life.

As I step into this new year, my focus is on finding better ways to manage my life and expanding my goals with intention. I want to dive deeper into what inspires personal growth and create space for hobbies and experiences that bring joy and fulfillment. It’s about building on the foundation I’ve laid and embracing opportunities to grow even more.

2025 Resolutions

This year, I’m excited to adopt some hobbies that promise joy, creativity, and a better sense of balance. Here are a few that have caught my attention:

  • Activity-Based Outings: This year, I want to incorporate more activity-based outings with loved ones. Whether it’s pottery, cooking, painting, gardening, or attending unique one-night classes, these experiences not only create wonderful memories but also strengthen relationships.
  • Intentional Gift-Giving: Moving beyond just objects, I want to focus on giving experiences that build deeper bonds. Whether it’s a shared adventure or a meaningful moment, these gifts can leave a lasting impression.
  • Embracing Change: Life doesn’t always go according to plan, and I want to work on responding with grace rather than frustration. Adopting a mindset that allows for flexibility and focusing on creating new plans when things shift will help me approach challenges with a calmer perspective.
  • Workout and Well-Being: This is something that appears on my list every year, but last year I didn’t commit to it as much as I wanted. In 2024, I aim to make morning or evening walks at least three times a week and strength training or Pilates two to three times a week a non-negotiable habit—just like washing my face. Building this routine into my life is essential for both my physical and mental health.
  • Reading More Books: I want to dive into books that inspire, educate, and entertain. Setting aside dedicated reading time will help me explore new worlds and ideas.
  • Listening to Impactful Podcasts: This year, I’ll focus on podcasts that challenge my perspective, teach valuable lessons, and leave me feeling motivated.
  • Traveling to New Places: I plan to visit at least three destinations I’ve never been to before. Exploring new environments and cultures always brings a fresh perspective and enriches my life.
  • Better Financial Habits: I’m committed to improving my financial planning and spending more intentionally. It’s about aligning my purchases with my values and focusing on long-term stability.
  • Moving into a New Space: One of my goals for this year is to find and move into a space that better aligns with my lifestyle and goals. Creating a fresh, inspiring environment can make a world of difference in day-to-day living.
  • Elevate: For those who’ve followed my journey from the start, you know how much work it took to get here. Nothing was handed to me, and I continue to put in the effort every day. I want to celebrate it & continue to elevate in every aspect of my life.
  • Growing My Social Media: I want to be more active across all platforms. Creating content brings me so much joy, and I’m excited to share more. Inspiring others is my passion, and I plan to pour more energy into it this year.

As we step into the New Year, let’s leave behind the pressure of perfection and instead focus on progress. “New Year, Better Me” isn’t about drastic changes; it’s about embracing who we are while making thoughtful improvements. Whether it’s setting clear goals, picking up a new hobby, or simply savoring life’s little joys, 2025 is a fresh canvas waiting for your unique touch.

I’m truly grateful for the life I have and the opportunities to grow each year. As you can see, my goals aren’t extremely big, and that’s intentional. Over the years, I’ve learned that when it comes to setting goals, taking small steps toward the bigger picture is the most effective approach. Huge goals can feel overwhelming and discouraging when they take longer to achieve. However, breaking them down into manageable steps keeps the journey motivating and attainable.

So, grab your vision board supplies, pour that glass of wine, and let’s make this year unforgettable.

My Favorite Gifts This Year: Giving with Intention and Living with Purpose – Fashion Blog SXM

by Lina Clémence June 15, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

The holidays are here, and as I reflect on the season of giving, I’m reminded of the power of intentionality. This year, my focus is on gifts that hold meaning—ones that inspire joy, celebrate connections, and create lasting memories. Whether it’s the elegance of a timeless piece of jewelry or the experience of self-care and family togetherness, I’m choosing to give gifts that align with my values. Let me share some of my favorites this year and inspire you to give with intention too!

Panache St. Maarten is at the top of my list when finding that perfect gift. This boutique is home to exclusive brands like Qudo, Coeur de Lion, and Sif Jacobs, offering jewelry that speaks volumes. Panache’s collection is perfect for celebrating the women in your life, whether it’s a sparkling bracelet, a bold statement necklace, or an elegant pair of earrings. And if you’re unsure what to pick, you can book a styling session to make the experience even more personalized. Better yet, consider gifting a Styling Gift Card, allowing your loved ones to choose something that resonates with their style.

Another gift idea close to my heart is the gift of self-care. In the hustle and bustle of daily life, we often forget to prioritize ourselves. This year, I’m gifting spa days, travel vouchers, and even solo getaways to those I love (and maybe to myself, too!). These moments of peace and rejuvenation are invaluable—they remind us to pause, reflect, and recharge. Whether it’s a massage, a weekend retreat, or an afternoon of pampering, self-care is a gift that keeps on giving.

Of course, the holidays are about more than just material gifts—they’re about creating quality time with family. This year, I’m planning to gift experiences that bring us together, from cooking classes to family outings. These shared moments foster deeper connections and leave a lasting impact, reminding us why we cherish each other so much. Consider gifting something that facilitates these experiences, like tickets to an event or even a beautifully curated dinner at home.

As I plan my gifts this season, I’ve also realized the importance of timeless pieces—items that will be cherished for years to come. A piece from Panache’s collection fits perfectly here. With its attention to detail, craftsmanship, and exclusivity, it’s more than just jewelry; it’s a memory, a celebration, a story. Don’t miss the chance to shop for these meaningful gifts and make someone’s holiday truly magical.

To inspire intentional giving, Kerai Kreative Style is here to help you celebrate purpose and thoughtfulness. Visit our website to explore how we can help make your holiday gift special. Whether it’s a styling session, a Styling Gift Card, or a timeless piece from Panache, we’re ready to bring your vision to life.

This year, let’s make our gifts count. Let’s give with meaning, choose with care, and live with purpose. Let’s create joy, inspire gratitude, and share experiences that matter. Because at the end of the day, the best gifts aren’t just things—they’re the love, thought, and intention behind them. Start your journey to intentional giving today by visiting Panache St. Maarten or booking a session with Kerai Kreative Style.
Let’s make this season unforgettable

Embracing Mocha Mouse: The Plus-Size Guide to Pantone’s Color of the Year 2025

Every year, we look forward to Pantone unveiling their Color of the Year, and for 2025, they’ve given us a timeless, versatile beauty: Mocha Mousse. A warm and inviting shade with hints of neutral brown and gray undertones, this color exudes sophistication, calm, and subtle strength. For plus-size fashionistas, this color speaks volumes, offering endless styling opportunities while staying grounded in comfort and elegance. Let’s dive into the magic of Mocha Mousse and discover how it can become your ultimate go-to hue this year.

Mocha & oversize…the trends of 2025. Do not feel intimidated by any of them, plus size women can also dress in oversize. In this look, we belted so that we could define and enhance our waistline. It also helps that this is a PLUS size belt and, therefore, it will hug your curves completely differently! (Dress available at T’s Closet)

What Does Mocha Mousse Represent?

Mocha Mousse is more than just a shade—it’s a mood. It embodies connection, warmth, and balance, making it the perfect color for 2025 as we continue to seek calm and authenticity in an ever-changing world. For the plus-size community, this shade holds a special resonance: it’s universally flattering, understated yet powerful, and versatile enough to suit every occasion. Mocha Mouse invites you to
embrace your curves and express your style with quiet confidence.

Styling Mocha Mousse: Chic and Casual

For everyday looks, Mocha Mousse works beautifully in soft, breathable fabrics like linen, cotton, or jersey. Pair a relaxed Mocha Mousse blouse with classic high-waisted jeans or tailored trousers for an effortless yet polished vibe. Add some contrast with a pop of color—think mustard-yellow accessories or teal sneakers to create depth. For those who love layering, a cozy oversized cardigan in Mocha Mousse paired with leggings and ankle boots is perfect for running errands or lounging in style.

The Pantone color: Let’s take a look, up close & personal.

Elevating Mocha Mousse for Special Occasions

Mocha Mousse shines just as brightly in formal wear, making it an excellent choice for weddings, galas, or evening events. A plus-size A-line dress in this shade with subtle metallic detailing will make you feel like a goddess. Pair it with gold or rose gold jewelry to highlight the warmth of the tone. For a bold statement, opt for monochromatic styling by layering textures—think a satin Mocha Mousse maxi dress with a faux-fur shawl or a structured blazer for added drama.

Accessorizing with Mocha Mousse

If you’re not ready to dive headfirst into wearing Mocha Mousse, start with accessories. A leather crossbody bag or a pair of pointed-toe flats in this shade will seamlessly blend into your wardrobe. Wide belts in Mocha Mousse can cinch your favorite dresses or jumpsuits, highlighting your curves in all the right ways. Scarves, hats, and even nail polish in this tone can subtly tie your look together, giving you a
cohesive and trendy vibe.

Explore and experiment with the various shades of Mocha, and give it your interpretation and flare, this way, you will never feel as if it is being forced! (belts available at T’s Closet)

Make Mocha Mousse Your Favorite Color Yet

Mocha Mousse is more than a trend; it’s a color that invites us to embrace our individuality and celebrate our natural beauty. For plus-size individuals, it offers a world of styling possibilities that are as comfortable as they are chic. Whether you’re dressing for a casual day out or an elegant evening affair,

Mocha Mousse serves as a reminder that style knows no size constraints. Therefore, don’t hesitate to explore this adaptable hue—embrace it, play with it, and allow it to become a key part of your 2025 wardrobe. Here’s to a year of honoring curves and hues that uplift us to feel our very best!

Happy Holidays – See you in the New Year!

by Lina Clémence June 2, 2025
written by Lina Clémence

I can’t believe how quickly Christmas Eve has come round this year, it has been a total whirlwind and so busy and exciting.

I wanted to take a moment to say a big thank you to all of you who, read, comment and interact with this blog, it has been an incredible year and I am so grateful to be able to share all of it with you.

I am signing off until January, when I will be back with plenty of suggestions to make the toughest month of the year that bit more bearable.
I had to do a little shot of the Elf, who apparently loves natural beauty too (he clearly stole my Weleda Skinfood!). We have a better behaved Elf than Poundland who clearly have their minds in the gutter 😉
See you on the other side!
